Best to let the bears have any food that they want. When I was one years old my mother had me in her arm when we were in Yosemete. My sister had a sandwich in her hand (about five years old) and she taunted the bear with it which was a mistake. The bear came for the sandwich and my mother stepped in front of it and it bit her. All of this happened while she was holding me. Not a fatal attack. I think it was just a nip to let my mom know to get the hell out of the way and let my sister know in no uncertain terms to release the sandwich. Not very smart to taunt a bear with food. Not sure if my sister ever learned her lesson though. She is over 80 years old and still obnoxious. Fortunately she did release the sandwich on that incident.
Drove one of these configured as a flatbed dump in my early twenties. We used it as a stem truck. Worked for a winery and the left over stems (after the grapes were striped off) went in to the truck to be dumped out back for compost. Also drove it on the California Bay Area freeways to pick up barrel racks and such. Steering wheel had 45 degrees of free play so it was quite the thrill to drive. It was the exact same color blue, so I need to see some blue retained. How about a yellow body, but retain the original blue hood. Yes, it will look goofy, but if that is the intended plan, then it's OK.
Hey Matt. I am an amateur Rustoleum Spraypaint expert. Put down a quality primer on the "Spudtruck" and then put down two coats of Rustoleum spraypaint. Any color you want, but in a SATIN finish. In about a year or two, the Rustoleum with have worn into a very natural patina look. I also recommend that you coat it in a 5:1 Linsead oil and Mineral Spirits mix about every 6 months. My current expirament with this is in year 5 and while the primer is still perfect, the paint over it is wearing in all the right places.
Bears have learned to open door locks on vehicles, and teach their Cubs to do it so it won't become a lost art. But they only attack vehicles with food in them. When camping in Florida, they tell you to bag your food and hang it 20ft up in a tree, 200 ft away from camp. Also eat your food 200ft from camp, so there are no orders of food in your camp.
And nobody listens so the bears keep learning new tricks. Up here in Minnesota you're supposed to hide your food way up in trees too but people leave it in their canoes all the time in the BWCA. I've seen so many bear hangs that are 2-3 feet away from the tree's trunk too. A bear will casually walk up that tree, reach out and grab your food.
@@Yugemos When I was canoe camping up in the BWCA, we did hang our food bag between two trees. Good thing, too. We had multiple visitors come to say hello at night. Made me nervous when they came to investigate the tent as we were trying to sleep.... (Number 1 cardinal rule not to break when camping in bear country. NO FOOD IN THE TENT, lol...)
@@richeyrich2203 I can't answer the OP, but the BWCAW is a wilderness. No motors of any kind. (No cars, no outboards, airplanes are even forbidden to fly over below a certain altitude. They have to get special permission to go in and get someone in an emergency.) It's essentially canoe and hiking camping, where you have to transport everything by human power. You have to carry the canoe, food, clothes, shelter and equipment from lake to lake. There's no big, heavy coolers in the backcountry, lol....
FYI I worked at Tahoe for a time and watched many bears open vehicle doors and chow down on people food, the bears just like a car thief look for your goodies but of a different kind!!! You were lucky, if the doors were locked you would be taking the rigs to Robby for major body and paint work. Thanks for the great content!!!!
3:48 I'm in Canada (up North of Canada) , we do NOT leave anything that is food, or can be mistaken for food or food garbage, in our cars overnight !! :) A bear can smell the baked pie, IN the truck with the widows and doors locked from a mile away (Littleraly a MILE) ... They think either it's honey, or if they are used to human food, it even smells better to than honey!!!. The only reason the bear opened the door properly, is because it's quieter (they can small humas 2 miles away!!) ... Because they can rip the door right off the vehicle with one paw!
Have you ever heard of or experienced a car being broken into by a bear for food? Like door ripped off or windows broken to gain access? I always figured vehicles were as good as a bear proof food container.. Also, thoughts on a bear proof food container locked in the car?
I feel sorry for the bears in Lake Tahoe . Humans have built on their home . We would not go out late at night when bears were most active . Up there it's not only vehicles but also homes they love refrigerators and freshly baked goods . But unfortunately they seem to leave their calling card in homes .
@@richeyrich2203yes. My mom was camping with her family as a kid and a bear ripped off a door and dug through the back seat to get the cooler in the trunk. Not a fun thing to find after a 10 mile hike.
I think that factory blue should stay with some old school, hand painted faded and worn Matt's off road recovery logos. I would also put white bumpers with a white grill. A long time fan.
In the Sierra National Forest, we are schooled on no food no food in vehicles at a very young age. Bears have lock picking abilities. Seriously it's good to see cooler heads prevailed.
Voting Blue Spud Truck with Yellow high lights...maybe yellow fenders & hood? Love to watch yous guys. You're fun lighthearted and informative, traits that the world needs more of. Thanks for the entertainment.
Those south lake bears are incredibly smart. I used to camp there every summer with my family and the bears would wait til Sunday morning to stroll through the campground and get into the dumpsters. Those bears really don’t want to have any conflict with people. They just want your food and then return to the woods.
the last time I camped at Tahoe the bears came through every night and checked every bear box in the campground. you could hear them hit the door and move on when it didn't open.
I said this elsewhere, but as someone who lives in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, we get black bears coming down into Gatlinburg all the time (huge tourist spot). They always get into trash, and when asked why they don't just design trash cans that are bear proof, the forest service replied "there is significant overlap in the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists."
15:22 Former EMS here, seatbelts would be a good idea for street driving, as that steering wheel is the only thing between you and the metal spear that is the steering column.
Even without the full yellow paint job, it will still be recognizable as a MORR vehicle. It just needs your logo in the sides. You could paint the rooftop yellow and put a large logo on it so it shows up well on the drone shots.
For the spud truck, I would paint the exterior yellow but keep the interior blue. It makes sense to paint it to match the rest of the fleet vehicles. But keeping the interior the original blue would just be a nice reminder of what it was.
No Goldfish were harmed in the filming of this episode. Can't say that about the Victory Pies though. Glad the bear was not aggressive and the MORR team were not physically harmed. Thanks for sharing.
Repainting the “SPUD TRUCK” a new color may cover up the door ding, but will not recover that classic blue. What’s harder? Thank you for your work and entertainment, all of it!!!
Here in North Carolina those Spud Trucks are everywhere…. 90% are in top notch looking condition rust free and no dents but they just sit around collecting dust…. North Carolina has a lot of farming
I have fond memories of riding in a Corvair in '61. Our 5th-grade teacher at Santa Monica Jr. Academy promised all students who finished 100% of our math homework a ride downtown to get Danish Pastries. I never knew I liked Danish Pastries until then and it also instilled in me a love for math.
That Powder Blue is beautiful, I agree with keeping it. One of the good things about having a brand that's grown so much now is MORR is the brand now, the yellow isn't required.
Bears are smart. As campgoround host in bear country, we heard of a mother bear having a cub stand on a trash bin counterweight while she worked at the "Bear Proof Latch."
Is anything ever really bear proof? After watching this and realizing that I always camp with my food in the car and myself in a tent either ontop of or near the car, and I’m doing it wrong. Like, how am I going to hang a heavy cooler in the trees? I’m thinking of ways I can put a bear proof container on the outside rack of my car and have it insulated like a cooler, so I can sleep inside and the bear can fiddle around outside..
At Yellowstone, bears learn how to rip open any car. They even learned if food in in the trunk, that it is easier to rip open a door, then tear out the the back seat. It is an easier way to make a living than foraging in the wild.
Welcome to California! Our Bears are very smart that is why you never leave any food in your vehicle. You got off easy. Lots of times they tear up the interior to pieces too. 😂
My dad built his cars and raced on the oval dirt track before I was born. He taught me how to drive and it was like a track day. I love watching you and your boys.
Paint it yellow and make blue flames that spell out MORR. You can manipulate the curves of the flames to do that. Compromise and beauty with function all in 1!
Somewhere there’s a bear in a MORR t-shirt telling their horrific story of human interaction- “but I did get this cool shirt” Speaking of, there’s a new idea for shirts
I live in Southern California, I have video of a bear opening a door to a pick up truck. He came back the next night to attempt another try on my Rivian without food in it ( it was so new that it never had food in it...) Bears are incredible
Whether you know it or not, bears sense of smell is acute, and their strength is immensely! Tahoe is right up the road from highway 4 and that area is where problem bears from Yosemite are relocated from at times. Never leave food in vehicles in areas where bear are native to! They can and do tear the doors off seeking the scent of a Hershey's bar wrapper! I lived and hunted west of Tahoe for about 20 years. And Tahoe also is known for bear issues on top of the other possibilities of bear issues!
I was watching one of MORR’s older videos. Matt has trained his boys well IMO. He’ll be able to step aside one day with no concerns. Boys are great fabricators, operators, people.
Garbage bears are crafty, once they know food is available in a location they will keep coming back. Lesson hear is " don't leave food in your vehicle" Matt and his team are really lucky that the bear didn't tear the seats up.
There's a lot of meaning in the saying, "Smarter that the average bear." That means really smart. We were once using our blue Coleman cooler as a table while camping at Crater Lake. From out of the darkness, the bear walked up to the cooler, swept the chessboard on the ground, opened the latch, sat down and ate everything in the cooler while we watched. It was a cub that had been taught by mom the blue coolers had food. She hadn't got to the lesson that red ones do too. The ranger who "investigated" told us this. They can open anything if there is food on the other side of the lock.
This blue cab is very nice. Mayby add some yellow motives (like stripes ;) ). Laps are in those white "panels"(or something) paint it yellow, mirrors paint yellow too. Add big Matt's logo on the doors and hood. Paint yellow this frame behind cab and maybe some parts on the rare (bumpers).
I just saw a 2nd Cousin who lives in Lake Tahoe, CA and is familiar with aggressive bears out their. He had one get into his house and do like $1000's in damage. Those bears are smart to figure out how to get into the cars. The fabs you showed are great and can't wait to see them in operation. I hope the work on the School bus is done soon so we can see its results.
The Spud Truck: I like the blue. It’s classic to the era. Just the MORR logo on the doors is plenty!! The yellow and black will really pop against the blue!
This episode was almost more than I could bear. I was worried it would just be another "Pie in the sky" idea episode, but then the real trouble started bruin. In the end it all turned out and the whole team made it happen with a "grin and bear it" attitude.
That's no ordinary bear, that's a Tahoe bear. They're notorious for knowing how to get into cars and RVs, especially the ones that hang out near Fallen Leaf.
I've seen it first hand camping. they got off lucky it doesn't even look like a bear was in the trucks. when it happened it looked like a bomb went off inside the vehicle.
This actually happened, there was a nuisance bear, a guy I know took his jeep with a soft top to "remove" the problem bear. He had stopped for a few donuts and coffee early, but left an uneaten donut in his jeep. Imagine his surprise not finding the bear, but returning to a totaled jeep, and trying to explain to his insurance company how his top, seats and whatnot were destroyed.
Keep it blue with MORR yellow accents! I know you want an LS in it but the Wrecker has a 8.1 that’s unstoppable with that Big Block torque, Spud needs an 8.1 as well !
Yellow pinstripes down the body line and the racing stripes but keeping it bright blue would look pretty cool or inverting it being blue on yellow. I love the channel and everything yall do.
IF IT WERE MY SPUD TRUCK: I'd have robby push the dent out the best he can from the rear. There will be a mark, but it's part of the story of the spud truck now. KEEP THE PATINA BLUE! no one will ever see the small creases where the dent was pushed back out and rolled. Then have robby add two 12" wide perfectly gloss MORR yellow racing stripes. The have a hand/brush sign painter paint on the MORR logo on the door in yellow so it looks old timey. Then I'd also do yellow wheels! Maybe some yellow pin striping and the MORR contact info on the bed side too. Vote this up! 👍
As a viewer of both Matt's and Robbie's channels, I too would like to thank all the sponsors that made Deja Blue a reality. Also to Tom Tom (I watch him too) for all your welding talent. Matt and the gang knocked it out of the park on Deja Blue and I know Robbie is humbled and very appreciative. Fantastic job everyone!!
The police must love you. If we tried that here in Kansas we would get locked up, no seat belts no lights no insurance no tags no registration. We LOVE all your content and builds
Maybe do a paint scheme that matches Matt’s shirt blue with the high vis stripe or some kinda blue and yellow two tone the blue might be growing on Matt but the yellow is just at this point a trademark 😂
I had a bag of apples sitting on my porch as I was carrying in groceries but they slipped my mind for a few minutes, when I went to get them there was a bear sitting with them in his paws but he dropped them and ran into the woods. I went into the house to see if my heart was going to explode or not and the bear came right back snagged the apples and went under a shade tree where he enjoyed his afternoon snack. I can honestly say that was the best bag of apples I have ever bought so it was well worth the money. I would paint the spud truck Polar white with a hint of blue to keep the original flavor with heavy mother of pearl in the clear to make it really pop. Since you are only painting the cab and stuff it won't take that much paint and Robbie can have some fun hiding easter eggs in the layers for fans to find at events. lol
34:45 - If it were my truck, I would do yellow to maintain brand consistency, but go with one you like vs being random and available, or has a really cool story to it! Maybe even like a CAT Yellow or something with an industrial vibe to play off the size 🎉 You could also do yellow over black! Since your logo has more than one color in it, but definitely enough yellow where you’re not wondering if it’s MORR pulling up!
I LOVE Tahoe... I sometimes go there to help support the Tahoe 200 (I'm a ham radio operator). And, while I was there, we saw several bears... The best sighting was, the momma bear and the baby bear getting into the garbage... the "bearproof" garbage dumpster. They didn't get the memo about the dumpster being bearproof, I guess.
I think the spud truck would look awesome with the Morrvair's paint job, yellow upper and dark gray lower, or if you didn't want the exact same paint colors, maybe yellow upper and red lower, those two colors always go well together.
White Lightning can be renamed the MORRBEAR.

Reminds me of my back yard bear in my neighborhood. Got drunk off the apples in the back yard and had “dinner” with it on the back patio
in mammoth lakes south of tahoe and we have bears all over--they are not a threat to humans--they may take a swat at someone while running away or bluff charge but they never attack--if you leave any food in any car they will get in it--if you do that at yosemite they will write you a ticket for $500 min
Bear needs to be taken care of..
@@grandenauto3214 Would you kill an animal because it ate some food?
@@QuasiDude that bear? No. The one that took over relatives fish site cabin when they were out? Yes. AK one was threat to people. If you have bear issues change stuff in cars. I like to have snack, water.. in car. Wife diabetic.. Bear spray to convince it to go elsewhere.
The Spud truck should be painted like Matt’s uniform shirt. Blue with yellow and reflective white stripes.
This is what I came to comment. Best idea!!
Matt is just one 'classy' man - no doubt about it. Can make a good story out of anything. Can't help but love the guy. - Right?
Good to see Lady, Peanut and Max doing their part helping out in the shop! 🙂
Leave the spud truck blue and brand it with your logos outlined in yellow. It will look great. 👍
How in the hell are you supposed to store a big heavy cooler in a tree 200yd from camp?
@@Yugemossee my comment please.
@@richeyrich2203 I can't answer the OP, but the BWCAW is a wilderness. No motors of any kind. (No cars, no outboards, airplanes are even forbidden to fly over below a certain altitude. They have to get special permission to go in and get someone in an emergency.)
It's essentially canoe and hiking camping, where you have to transport everything by human power. You have to carry the canoe, food, clothes, shelter and equipment from lake to lake.
There's no big, heavy coolers in the backcountry, lol....
Spud truck looks great in the powder blue. Clear-coat over it and design a blue-themed matt's logo. :D
Bear wanted a Tshirt..its cub mobile was stuck.
A bear can smell the baked pie, IN the truck with the widows and doors locked from a mile away (Littleraly a MILE) ... They think either it's honey, or if they are used to human food, it even smells better to than honey!!!.
The only reason the bear opened the door properly, is because it's quieter (they can small humas 2 miles away!!) ... Because they can rip the door right off the vehicle with one paw!
Yep- But he don't wipe his feet or his butt!😷
Have you ever heard of or experienced a car being broken into by a bear for food? Like door ripped off or windows broken to gain access?
I always figured vehicles were as good as a bear proof food container..
Also, thoughts on a bear proof food container locked in the car?
I've seen a dumpster crushed by a bear 😯
I’d go with a Matts Off Road version of the Martini Racing logos. You know it’s the right thing to do.
Hey Matt, that bear was a little more graceful exiting the truck!😂😂. Wife and I thought you was hilarious on the replay.
Bear re-enactment was awesome. I can totally see him sitting there eating just like that!
Kinda my thoughts but leave a little blue on the outside as well.
That blue and the yellow they use would compliment each other nicely
Yellow with blue racing stripes? Maybe change the black in the logo to blue for this truck also??

34:40 mimic the color scheme of your work uniform. blue with MORR yellow stripe and some silver reflective in the middle
yup i just wrote the same thing and scrolled down to see if anyone else wrote it......i agree!!!
This would really be great to mimic Matt’s uniform! Nothing else like it!🥳
Yeah, definitely two-tone with blue and yellow
Blue and Yellow are complimentary colors. Keep the matte blue, it looks fantastic.
We can call it Matt Blue
Much as I want the continuity in your fleet, I think the spud truck should stay blue. Your yellow logo on the doors is all the yellow it needs
Welcome to California, where our bears are smarter than our politicians!
Yep.. everybody knows this... especially if you have been on the Rubicon Trail.
They didn't have time to shreddy the interior !! Too many snack choices . He hit the honey hole !!
Yeah I'm amazed it didn't shred the interior. I've also heard stories about them damaging the doors to get in if the car is locked.

I would like to thank the MORR team for the great bear decoy job you did. We were at Tahoe too camping, and the bears left us alone!! 👍🏼
Somewhere there’s a bear in a MORR t-shirt telling their horrific story of human interaction- “but I did get this cool shirt”
Speaking of, there’s a new idea for shirts
I live in Southern California, I have video of a bear opening a door to a pick up truck. He came back the next night to attempt another try on my Rivian without food in it ( it was so new that it never had food in it...)
Bears are incredible
Lesson hear is " don't leave food in your vehicle"
Matt and his team are really lucky that the bear didn't tear the seats up.
I think a handpainted logo would be nice.
Matt, the Spud Truck should stay in it's original blue. All you need is the MORR logo on the door, after you get the dent fixed of course!
I made the same comment. They can always bring in more yellow on the bed if they want it more yellow.
It will look sweet with the same patina it has now.
Paint the bed yellow and or add yellow accents to the axles and brake calipers and stuff
I love how this episode covered so much ground. Each storyline completed its mission. Bears, Blue and Big Blue.
This episode was almost more than I could bear. I was worried it would just be another "Pie in the sky" idea episode, but then the real trouble started bruin. In the end it all turned out and the whole team made it happen with a "grin and bear it" attitude.
What about Matt having a girl t-shirt on with nipple holes and a THONG on 😂 u can see it clear as day🤭
You got so lucky. Looks like he didn’t tear the crap out of your interior or take a crap in there. lol. Glad you all lived to show us.
VERY FUNNY reinactment. Glad you're all safe and have a great story to tell around the campfire.
Love your sense of humour Matt. It's great to see you having fun with your team and making fun of what may have been a dangerous situation.
Love to see a Rubicon challenge between as many channels that will join. That would be an amazing video.
That's no ordinary bear, that's a Tahoe bear. They're notorious for knowing how to get into cars and RVs, especially the ones that hang out near Fallen Leaf.
Yeah, I was gonna say... they're second only to Yosemite bears if to anyone.
Do not leave food in your vehicles, Bears can open unlocked doors and they can peel open a locked door!
I've seen it first hand camping. they got off lucky it doesn't even look like a bear was in the trucks. when it happened it looked like a bomb went off inside the vehicle.

Bear eating victory pie, had me in stitches
Yep, the bear was celebrating its own little victory.

Idk, seeing the yellow of the lift against the blue of the truck, I don't really like it. 🤷🏻♂️
I like the blue with yellow accents as well, but yellow is the brand, and it would look like another business.

About the colour, yellow cab, black chassis, black and yellow bed.
Yellow pinstripes down the body line and the racing stripes but keeping it bright blue would look pretty cool or inverting it being blue on yellow. I love the channel and everything yall do.
IF IT WERE MY SPUD TRUCK:
I'd have robby push the dent out the best he can from the rear.
