I'm about to watch it. Watching society around me over the last two years has brought me to the conclusion that vaxers versus anti-vaxers is a sentient, sapient manifestation of Darwinism unfolding before our very eyes. Honestly everything which has transpired makes me seriously wonder if this is how the Fermi paradox works and we can't see the forest from the trees.

@@megalodon1726 Why are the very good scientists who do not agree with, or are skeptical of, the MRNA technology or platform, such as Dr. Robert Malone, not included in joint open discussions with those scientists that are proponents of its efficacy and safety? Why are they being censored in official media and in social media such ad Twitter and UA-cam? How can anyone talk of LONG TERM SAFETY, when the long term has not been seen yet.
Surely honest open discussion where no one is suppressed is so much needed. Otherwise the honest skeptics will never agree, and those who blindly push the establishment view point will lose over the long term.
Perhaps the host of this podcast could play a useful role by initiating and pushing for the open minded discussions. Instead of laughing at those serious and doubtful people.

I sometimes feel a mixture of despair, and sorrow when I see brilliant people being ignored because it's inconvenient. I also occasionally have this overwhelming feeling of helplessness when I listen and learn and grow, knowing that the broader public isn't hearing or is actively avoiding all that the world has to offer. Luckily, Mr Tyson, and Mr Nice keep striving to teach and share all of these things, and their excitement reminds me how fulfilling learning is. I think Carl Sagan would be so proud of you guys for keeping the candle lit.

Yeah. He's well spoken and mostly very careful of the vocabulary he uses. Even when NDT used "probably" he came back replacing that word with "could", which was a much more accurate translation of what Neil was trying to say. ua-cam.com/video/JefKsjEuOq8/v-deo.html
There was a bit of oversimplification of things. I don't believe we're "all" or even "mostly" on two separate camps. That is what would be perceived from consuming media. There are a great majority of people in the USA who neither consume bad media nor discard the scientific method when processing information.

It would have been a big difference if people like Nicholas would have been at the table of the decision makers and not only the technitions. The chaos we have now, was expexted, as he says himself: we saw it coming... An interesting point in modern times. I’m also reminded of LORD OF THE FLIES and how there are those who self appoint to leadership and others who are the voice of reason and get assassinated. The rest seem to line up behind one or the other based on misinformation that appeals to the immediate needs of the masses or the perceived neglect and the other group fails to network and create change because apathy is a beast that devours the spirit and makes people have COVID parties.

One of the first things I did when COVID was first introduced as a potential pandemic was to read Daniel Defoe's "A Journal of the Plague Year, " which details the bubonic plague in London ex post facto; recommended in such a scenario. It presented details on individual, societal, and govering response and behaviors to such an event that mirrored current conduct and accurately set my expectations for 2020 and beyond. I was only caught unaware by how few people were resilient to learn from the past and therefore imprudently doomed to repeat it. This episode of StarTalk captures well some of the plethora of variables that combined to create this perfect storm in which we find ourselves, and is an easy favorite - most appreciated!

Thanks a lot for everything, Neil, Chuck and the crew of StarTalk, it's always a pleasure to listen and learn from you!!! I myself and my wife took on a mission to teach our extended family to get the vaccines, to trust in science, to find the right info on line and of course, to be sceptical in a good sense, not to trust the first messiah that comes to town and to dig deeper if you are in doubt. A lot of this methods came from you guys and i'm grateful for that. The only problem is that I come from Slovenia (EU) and there is not much good content on-line in our language and people who do not understand English, miss so much knowledge and fall into an abyss of misinformation and is a tough job to change their minds... But we'll keep on trying, that's the least we can do... keep up with the great work, we need you!!!💪💪😁

I want to believe in science, but the science has BEEN politicized. Doctors, immunologists, virologists, etc with data that conflicts with widely held opinions on Covid are not only scoffed at but labeled as dangerous. I mean perhaps they are, but it's literally part of the science. It is abhorrently unscientific to suppress data. The right wing of the government politicizes it in their way, the left wing politicizes it in their way. It sucks because we want to make informed decisions but when there is no transparency in government and our medical institutions trust is a real shaky issue.

I have been influenced by Critical sociology BIG TIME. It has enabled me to be able to be as unbiased as possible, to consider different perspectives, and to gather as much information as possible. I found my introduction to Critical sociology profound in terms of finding my own way of being in the world. Before that, I struggled to come to terms with my upbringing, and was very confused by the realities I was exposed to eg. cultural, social, governmental, religious. Critical sociology helped me to open my mind without having to go all over the world to realize there are many ways of understanding reality.

Instead of making fun of people you don't agree with remember this; those you can't negotiate with will become either your slaves or your tyrants. That's why free speech is so important. It's the mechanism by which people of different opinions talk it out instead of strangling each other. Be kind to both sides of the argument. If we are all to be judged, someday, I suspect, it won't be based on our self righteous beliefs but how we treated others of differing views.

Yes, there were studies out of Asia in April 2020 that contact traced over 99% of the infections back to indoor transmission. But they should have known from SARS and MERS how this likely spread and what biohazard protection level was necessary for people likely to come into contact with infected people, what type for people who deal with the public, and what is necessary for people just temporarily going into a building. Industrial safety would have been better at stopping transmission.
