Because of MJ’s dynamic stage presence as lead singer, we forget what great musicians Tito and Jermaine were. Motown shot themselves in the foot by not allowing them to play their own instruments. Jermaine and Tito were VERY underrated as bass and guitar players.
Newsflash Facts: JERMAINE HAS ALLLLLLLWAYS BEEN EXTREMELY WICKED ON BASS & STILL IS ! people forget that he was Jackson 5 bandleader...him, Tito, Ronnie & Johnny would spend 7-8 hours a day woodshedding on their instruments without ever learning how to read music...contrary to popular rumor, Jermaine never learned under Jamerson cause he was ALREADY self-taught before they got to Motown and his bass idol was Larry Graham.... the BIGGEST mistake Berry Gordy made was not letting them play on those albums but on their live shows, Jermaine & Tito were teenagers playing with velocity & experienced of a seasoned adult musician !! and Randy wasn't too far behind as he already was playing keyboards & congas like a vet by the time he turned 10...all you have to do is look at all the classic Jackson clips on You Tube were you can see how the Jacksons functioned as a group with every brother playing their role long story short....THE JACKSONS ARE A MULTI TALENTED FAMILY THAT JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE A DYNAMIC LARGER THAN LIFE FRONTMAN :) EACH Jackson brother has strong talents that contributed to their success as a group in the studio and ESPECIALLY on stage....MJ didn't do all the work by himself nor did he downplay his brothers...There was a 20 Year History that existed BEFORE the "Thirller" & overzealous uneducated MJ fans who don't know the COMPLETE history need to understand that & more importantly, DO THEIR RESEARCH !
Those overzealous 'MJ only' fans do not want to know and do not care. They are of a certain breed who think that by denegrading the Jackson brothers they will make Mj bigger. The problem they have is that they cannot wipe out Mj's history with his father or his brothers, no matter how hard they try, cause MJ was already known to the world with his brothers BEFORE Thriller. And that part of his life was much longer than his solo career! I am so happy that the brothers are back and doing what they do best and are having a great time doing it!
I totally agree with you statement and I'm a MJ fan but not just an overzealous fan caught in the hype etc. My respect goes to the entire family for their various talents as artists: musicality without ever learning how to read music yet masters of the craft at a young age! Jermaine was the original leader of the group which I can respect as well :) I like this song btw.
Everything just said is real truth to REAL Jackson fans...those who are 'pre-Off The Wall/Thriller' fans know all the hard work all the brothers put in...100's of hours rehearsing, playin instruments(while singing), choreography, stage presence, etc., I notice alot of the negative comments about the brothers talents seem to come from those who are oblivious to the fact that to even be onstage with Michael you have to be a super talented performer like his brothers Tito, Jermaine, Jackie, & Marlon in the first place!!!... can't knock them...they went through the same ass-whoopins as Michael!!!!
A lot of the bass lines were originally played by the one and only James Jameson. Jermaine had to learn those lines AND choreography all while singing live....uhm, I don't think I know of anyone who has done anything like that before or since!!
Exactly!!!...you think Joseph busted their asses preparing them for show business all those years just to have Motown bring in studio musicians to play over their licks??..sheeeittt!!!!
A lot of people are surprised at how good Jermaine is on the bass. Let's not forget he's been playing bass & singing since he was a kid. By the time this record came along, he was a Master at singing, dancing, & playing.
I remember sitting at a table with him and his bodyguards on a train he was on tour. I must have been about 10 at time He gave me his autograph great singer.
A #1 hit for Jermaine Jackson on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 451st #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. I will never forget his appearance on The Facts of Life. He gave Tootie an inside look at how his life was as a celebrity. And you can only imagine how it was for Michael after "Thriller" hit it big.
I saw this on TV when it first aired and remember being highly impressed by Jackson’s overall performance and his ridiculously outstanding bass playing, while singing, no less.
Love this song. Jermaine is one of my earliest and primary influences as to why I started playing bass guitar almost 20 years ago and Tito was who got me to start picking up guitar and learning funk chords and riffs about 12 years ago. J5 is what got me to start singing even though my voice is too deep for tenor parts (And all but like Tito are all tenors lol). Love the J5 and Jermaine's music.
If you're talking about Jermaine's album, it says no such thing. The credits has "Stevie Wonder - Lee Garrett" as writers for Let's Get Serious, and "Arranged by Stevie Wonder". Stevie is credited as producer on 3 (out of 7) songs from the LP and playing some of the instruments on the 3 songs. There is a version from a concert where both Jermaine & Stevie sing it together, but it hasn't been released.
The original bass guitar of this song was recorded by the great Nathan Watts, longtime bassist for Stevie Wonder. Play his basslines AND sing at the same time it's a damn hard task. Fantastic playing by Jermaine here. Really underrated bass player.
I love this song and Jermaine is killing that bass! I am missing this bass sound in today's music...I likes my music funky! I had enough of techno-pop!
Wishing You A Very Happy Birthday 🎂 Jermaine!!!! 😊 ❤️ 💟💖💝💓 May This Year Brings You All The Happiness & Fulfill All You Wishes That You Longed For, Prayed For. (Only The Positive Ones).
Jermaine has 2 albums after "Precious Moments" which came out in 1986. There was "Don't Take It Personal" from 1989, and "You Said" from 1991. There is a song from "You Said" called "Word To The Badd!!" on it, which there was a big fuss about, because it was leaked right before Mike's single "Black Or White" came out. TLC is singing background on it, and they didn't exist when "Precious Moments" came out. "Black Or White" also came out in 1991.
On this day in 1980 {May 17th} "Let's Get Serious" peaked at #1 {for 6 weeks} on Billboard's R&B chart... Two months earlier on March 29th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100, eventually it reached #9 and spent 23 weeks in the Top 100... It peaked at #8 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart...
J Black. I'm a huge Stevie & Jermaine fan so I know the history between em. (I used to play Jermaine's album to death). I loved his song, FREE. But yeah, I had 'my own' version for some of the lyrics. Thanks for sharing.
This song was written by S. Wonder & L. Garret, produced & arranged by S.Wonder. Your info on this song is mistaken, anywayz, Jermaine did this song the way it should've been done! Jermaine Jackson is underrated as a bassist, songwrite, & possibly a singer!
Jermaine was the main attraction for many teenagers during J5 hero. Voted the first teenage idol ever. Had awards for best hairstyle and best dressed.. It's MJ that was crying to his mom that he was ugly, hence the extreme plastic surgeries. Ask any kid called jermaine how they got their name and they will tell you their momma was in love with jermaine jackson, the best looking jackson of the bunch! Let me add that many of MJ's fashion sense came directly from jermaine's wardrobe. check it out!
You are probably talking about "I Think It's Love" from 1986. It was written by Jermaine Jackson, Stevie Wonder, & Michael Omartian and is produced and arranged by Michael. Berry Gordy has nothing to do with Arista Records. It was run by Clive Davis.
Even TODAY, there are very few bass players who do can this! That was a very melodic bass line he was playing. To thump, pluck, pick, and sing so well...c'mon man!
lololololol. after ALL THESE YEARS, I thought Stevie was singing, "ask me how I know you well". Not until seeing this video and Jermaine doing Stevie's part did I realize that he was SPELLING THE WORD, "s-e-r-i-o-u-s". Guess a brother was WAY OFF on that one! :)
Isnt he?!! He is so underrated as an artists.. I mean He IS killing that bass!!! Check out that RUN at 1:11 !! Music today needs to take lessons from 70-90's.. Kind of makes me sad. Not all music today is techno-pop, but a lot is. Real musicianship back then.
I have the original 1980 record and bought it at the time. I don't have a re-release. I have all of Jermaine's albums, all original vinyl versions, except the last one "You Said" which I have on a CD. There is no one named Michael O Martin. His name is Michael Omartian, but he had nothing to do with this album or any other record Jermaine released on Motown. Jermaine started working with Michael after he signed to Arista records in 1984.
On this date in 1980 {Mar. 29th} "Let's Get Serious" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it would peaked at #9 and spent 23 weeks in the Top 100. Jermaine was no nonsense...no drugs...no alcohol...no bullshit!!!
Because of MJ’s dynamic stage presence as lead singer, we forget what great musicians Tito and Jermaine were. Motown shot themselves in the foot by not allowing them to play their own instruments. Jermaine and Tito were VERY underrated as bass and guitar players.
Yazzzzzz exactly that
E como ele canta e toca maravilhosamente. Sensacional.
Tito 🙏🙏
Jamming! It's not easy playing bass and singing at the same time. He is on time.
It is for Jermaine, he was born with it.
Exactly....So much for the idiots who said Jermaine had a "ghost player" on those records.....The boy can straight slam a bass !!!
Right! Jermaine is sick on the bass! He’s been playing live, singing, and dancing while playing bass since he was 10 with the Jackson 5.
What an AMAZING musician. To play bass like that and sing at the same time is not easy. Professional to the core.
you have to see it to believe, such high level singing and disco base are so extreme to play ..
No doubt about it... he used to play like that while singing and doing intricate dance moves.... hitting clean notes #@$&cking amazing.
Newsflash Facts: JERMAINE HAS ALLLLLLLWAYS BEEN EXTREMELY WICKED ON BASS & STILL IS ! people forget that he was Jackson 5 bandleader...him, Tito, Ronnie & Johnny would spend 7-8 hours a day woodshedding on their instruments without ever learning how to read music...contrary to popular rumor, Jermaine never learned under Jamerson cause he was ALREADY self-taught before they got to Motown and his bass idol was Larry Graham....

long story short....THE JACKSONS ARE A MULTI TALENTED FAMILY THAT JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE A DYNAMIC LARGER THAN LIFE FRONTMAN :) EACH Jackson brother has strong talents that contributed to their success as a group in the studio and ESPECIALLY on stage....MJ didn't do all the work by himself nor did he downplay his brothers...There was a 20 Year History that existed BEFORE the "Thirller" & overzealous uneducated MJ fans who don't know the COMPLETE history need to understand that & more importantly, DO THEIR RESEARCH !

He and Tito both mastered at playing the guitar and bass and doing the Jackson/Jacksons dancing at the same time took a lot of practice to do that.
Jermaine is a very talented artist. He's got the funk.
yes he does
Jermaine is a beast on the slap bass!!! Killer, killer performance!
Jermaine is never recognized as the amazing Bass Player he is !!!
Jermaine is a beast on that guitar..lets get serious.
Guitar?
@@suqmadic6672 ... What..

@@eddieredd2078 It's true. I was drunk again. Ignore me next time.

I remember sitting at a table with him and his bodyguards on a train he was on tour. I must have been about 10 at time He gave me his autograph great singer.
RESPECT! I didn't think he could play like that! He killed it!

Excellent ! Amazing in Every way ! Handsome and Strong Vocals.
I saw this on TV when it first aired and remember being highly impressed by Jackson’s overall performance and his ridiculously outstanding bass playing, while singing, no less.
Jermaine is a tight bassist.
I like Jermaine very much!
my momma played this song until the sun came up. it was a hit!
This is a beast and nobody beats Jermanine
It’s shame he never got the credit he deserved while l living in Michael’s shadow.
Yep, just thinking exactly the same myself. A real shame.

Love this song. Jermaine is one of my earliest and primary influences as to why I started playing bass guitar almost 20 years ago and Tito was who got me to start picking up guitar and learning funk chords and riffs about 12 years ago. Tito and Jermaine played, sang and danced in sync with Mike, Marlon and Jackie. Talented brothers.

Fantastic playing by Jermaine here. Really underrated bass player.

Jermaine!!! Play it!!
I've been loving the song since I heard it recently and couldn't believe to find Jermaine himself playing the bass and singing. So awesome!
He's not playing on the original recording. That's Nathan Watts from Stevie Wonder's band.
The keyboard is awesome, especially combined with the wicked bass
the dx7 is a beast!
Great performance, I always dug this tune!
JJ, my brother from another mother and a huge influence on me as a bassist and a vocalist!
Don't let it end Jackson 4 ! ! !

He needed the horn section! That's what drove the song for me .. 🎺🎷
One of the greatest songs to dance to
studio version entered Billboard March 29, 1980 ..reached #9.
I'm just here to listen to Jermaine shred on the bass.. I remember I caught this on the Arsenio Hall Show that night.

Play that shit Boy!!!
Grande!!
He be Jermaine that bass. 😁
At his funkiest!
Delighted that I grew up in a generation of music icons and legends; today's generation of 2020 is total garbage! Sadly.
