      Ever see a Broadway musical? Most women in those shows dance in high heels -- and while Diana Ross certainly looks like she's having a lot of fun, the steps which she's doing in this scene are actually not that difficult. If you really want to see women in high heels doing difficult dance steps, watch the Can-Can dance sequence in "Moulin Rouge!" -- the reason why they don't fall is because of all the hours, days, weeks, and possibly months of practice they've put into rehearsing to the point that their bodies are almost on autopilot as a result of muscle memory. If you practice something like this enough times -- whether it be an athletic routine, a dance, or a song -- you don't even have to think about it consciously anymore. It's almost as if what you're doing has acquired a will of its own and is taking control of your body. It feels a bit odd sometimes but it's also comforting because there's less reason to worry about possibly getting something wrong.

      I agree. However, realistically speaking: Given the drastic changes to his physical appearance over his lifetime, there weren’t too many roles he could play regardless of his acting skill. One movie I wish he was sought for is “The Return of the Living Dead” as the Black character Spider (played by Miguel Nunez Jr.). Every time I watch that, he seems like a MJ ripoff. And that movie came out in the interim between the Thriller and Bad eras

    Two great performances that were criminally let down by the director and cinematographer. Why on earth would you film the movie's most iconic number entirely from a rear wide shot? The cinematography and editing are so lifeless and directionless. Michael's having the time of his life and you can barely see it. It's so frustrating how great this could and should have been

      Because the director wanted to replicate the very same scene in the original Wizard of Oz which also showed the characters in a rear wide shot while they were skipping down the yellow brick road.

    • @Boi-st5px
      @Boi-st5px 3 роки тому +1

      No, actually Diana Ross requested that Michael Jackson play the role of the scarecrow. It was her requests that got Michael Jackson considered for the part.

    • @jasonking184
      @jasonking184 3 роки тому

      Jimmie walker was actually up for the role before Michael got it. But when he found out that he would have to sing and dance he backed out and Michael was brought in. However he was only brought in if Diana Ross was cast as Dorothy. Something she guaranteed she could do. The studio as well as the director and producer originally wanted Stephanie mills in the role.she played the role in the Broadway version .they thought Diana was too old to play the childlike Dorothy

    • @Boi-st5px
      @Boi-st5px 3 роки тому +2

      @@jasonking184 Very Interesting! I bet you their names were mentioned very early on during talks, before big backers and money came into the project Stephanie Mills said that she was never up for the movie role and didn't expect it. Both her and Jimmie Walker were not big enough box office names, to warrant the kind of budget and investment for the film, at that time. Eventhough I know Jimmie was a household name, Stephanie would have been the lead and they would not have invested as much money for an unknown or non- commercially viable name, especially Black unknown name (mainstream). How many Black musicals existed at that time?! Heck, even today!
