I can remember when the twin came out period great marketing from the manufacturers as to how powerful they were supposed to be. On the radar run circuit around here. The triple had the world record at around 114 miles per hour and the twin never got there. They were getting just over 1 05 miles per hour Even today , at the amateur level , the old triple slads can put an impressive smackdown on these new ones
I lived it all lol!! Im a cat man now probably always will be because of my racing career cat was there for me when nobody else was. My first cat was a 03 F7 i rode Polaris threw the 90’s. I had a lot of fast indys rode with friends with doos and cats. My 95 600 XCR with AAen pipes milled heads 115 on radar i was 15 years old. I over modified the XCR ported it kept going through cranks after. I did all my own work clutching jetting porting. I picked up a 95 storm after my XCR burst into flames lol!! My storm had PSI heads and DG stingers. Clutched it jetted it very fast sled for the day. I could eat up just about anything unless maybe someone was as good as i was tuning sleds. I now have a old 600 ZRT that was given to me. After market triple pipes V force reeds all i can see thats been done to it. Have a feeling it i opened motor up might be a big bore because it rips. Also ride 2 Z1 turbos one making up to 300 hp. And my 17 ZR6000r XC race sled. 17 was my last year racing unfortunately got carpel tunnel and bad arthritis. Had surgery done on both my hands but arthritis is still bad sometimes. Anyway love snowmobiles love my cats great stuff. Thanks for sharing im now a subscriber.
I still have my 95 ZRT800 I purchased new in late 1994. After 1 year of riding, I purchased a set of ported 900 T CAT cylinders, pistons and heads from a performance shop racer (Stage 6 Performance) here in Michigan. Also, carbs went to 39.5 and installed VForce reeds. The mods really woke my sled up!!! Huge gain in performance. Yet, under the hood, looked stock with stock pipes and canister. Excellent trail sled with as good as gas mileage as my buddies 600 and 700 sleds. I havent rode the sled in 10 years now because of the up and down winters here in Michigan. Sled only has 6000 miles on it and is like new. Hope to ride again someday!
That 95 800 in 121" form is cats fastest 800 capable of 132 to 136mph out of the box top end acording to magazines of the time and as far as it stands in the ranks of all sleds to date its the second fastest production snowmobile ever made running a close second to the 1997 thundercat 900! Ive had a 95 zrt 800 in the family since new original motor bone stock 31,657 miles on it i ran 136 mph on the gun up at the rice lake top end drags this sled was my dads baby and after he passed away i got it and its a sled i will always cherish!
1st sled i ever bought was a ZRT6. So triples will always have a place in my heart. I also had a 01 ZR800LE. Fun sleds. Got stuck on firecats and I'm gunna be here a while. 😂
In 1995 I bought a 700 ZR. I’m so glad I did. Something a lot of people didn’t know is you could bore out the exhaust and the exhaust port’s ALOT My dad and I drag raced professionally for many years. And dad was good at setting up the clutch and torque converter. He had one to a 94. We could beat all of the big sleds We liked the Twins.
@@OldSchoolArcticCats in 1976 I was 15. There was a drag racing Circuit called WSRF racing association. I was supposed to be 18 to race but my dad wanted me to because I was 100 lbs lighter than him. Iv been around fast sleds all of my life. I loved your video.
If it’s a long day on trails (especially bumpy ones) give me the twin. For a quick rip, smooth trails or lake running it’s a triple every time. If I’m buying a classic sled it has to be a triple because I can still get a new twin today.
First IFS triple for Cat but not the first triple in a Cat. That honor would go to the 793cc Hirth Honker stuffed into a few proto Panther racers in 1969.
I have a 02 800 mountain cat. Love it but sadly I think it need the lower end rebuilt. The mag side cylinder doesn't want to fire unless it's at higher rpms. I have tried switching plug wires around does the same.
the very first 800s have a bad rep the 1m800s have known to kinda suck and the zrt800s never ran right. or as good as the 600s just like how the zrt 600s did better then the powder extremes

That mountain cat is clean!! The sound of the Tripple ZRT sure is cool.

Those 800 tripples were scary fast.

Great story. Send pictures of the ZRT. Thanks for watching!

Right on!
Love both of them.
Me too

love the greasy tripples but would love a mid 2000s sled
Gotta love the triple sound. Where's the 03 f7?! I know you gotta have one of them!
I got a 2017 Mtn Cat M8000 153 I snow check it's a awesome sled ... like both of thoes Cats n this video 😁😍👌
Awesome video. Would love to see those two sleds go head to head.

Both awesome sleds! Let's see you line them up!
I had a 98 zrt 8 and it was great. That 95 sounds awesome
Triples rule forever !
the thunder cat 1000 is still my favorite
First IFS triple for Cat but not the first triple in a Cat. That honor would go to the 793cc Hirth Honker stuffed into a few proto Panther racers in 1969.
All neat sleds.
I have ZR800. It’s the best snowmobile!!!
Those AAEN pipes also dropped 24 pounds off the zrt. So it would have been 24 pounds heavier if it was stock
I love a triple on a lake, or in an old sled that it doesnt belong in. 🤘 EPA can suck it. It aint snowmobilin unless your coat smells like gas.
Absolutely!

You need a compression test.. More than likely you need a new top end
@@jeffreyhagelin3672 top end is new.
If cat brought back triples they would once again dominate the market.....
Hell ya! Agreed
They’re no cool, and I love the lime green, but the greasy triple with the triple pipes is just bad ass.
no comparison... a piped triple or a stock piped twin lol. not even fair
Exactly my thoughts and they ran for like 5 seconds a sled not even long enough to get a sound on the warm pipes
i still have my 99 thundercat and my 2002 zrt 600
I love my 1999 TCAT..
Zrt 4 me!
No race ?
Keep watching… soon!!
I'm just here for your passion for these POS sleds. Good on you.
Perfect Old Snowmobiles? I like it thanks for watching!
What's your ride?
2018 rmk 800, had a friend quote a new arctic cat and was pushing 27 grand Canadian, congratulations to those that can afford it.
