Same thing happened to me, was on a light snow frozen dirt road.. I was on 02" ZR 600, dude had a 99" T-Cat. We slapped the load handle at 60Mph, mine lifted the right ski for a second, that T-Cat took off and held both skis till about 100mph!!
The sound of a triple does something to your bones, that growl makes a person a tad bit nervous or something to really squeeze the throttle. They're the best sounding snowmobiles for sure.
Give me a modified thundercat then it will be a fair comparison. The pod filters sucking in hot air doesn't help either. Bottom line stock versus modified...
M1000 or Crossfire1000 stock getting crushed by M8 HO and Crossfire 8 HO. What do I want to say by that. Yes the M1000 and Crossfire1000 was under tuned. And If you aftermarket both the CFR1000 (the short beast, even called Crossfire R) and the Thundercat I believe that the CFR will win everything under 900 ft.
@mitchellkalina8191 I was trying to see if the pods were used with the stock airbox? I've ran pods before and in my opinion it's why I blew up my one engine. I had it tuned to rip on the trails, then I took it out on the lake at about 5deg and I burnt the front of a piston off. It was just a tuning nightmare.
Stock Thundercat holding its own against a lighter sled with 10 more years of technology and aftermarket parts? Not to mention how absolutely perfect that machine is, I would more than happily take that Thundercat home with me over the M1000 any day, any time!
Yes a longer race the T-Cat will smoke the M1000. A more fair comparison would be the Crossfire 1000 or the CFR 1000 vs the T-cat. Great video. The best videoed races on UA-cam. Stats, drone video and finish line! Well done. I've ripped on both the T-cat and a 08 Crossfire 1000 and both are strong.
If they are not studded that would be the best way to do it for sure. All that torque Would cause the belt to slip down into the torque converter. So you’re right it would be way better.
I've got a 1997 EXT 580 EFI Deluxe that I ride often. I keep it clean and maintained. Great to see a channel like this because i grew up with these old Cats and dreamt of 93 thundercats when I was in 7th grade!
The crossfire 1000 With simple mods is a weapon. Big power lite weight very fast. M1000 isn’t a top end sled like say a CFR 1000. But id have to put my money on a CFR vs thundercat with equal mods and HP. But those old triples just keep pulling so idk.
Love em both! But I'm taking that Thundercat if I could! First snowmobile I ever owned was a '71 panther with a 399 kawasaki engine. Still have it and the original owners manual! I've always loved Arctic Cat sleds and whenever we needed parts we headed to Central Snowmobile Salvage. In their showcase they had a 760 Hirth triple with triple carbs. It came out of Panther same year as mine. Every time I seen that thing I dreamed of buying it and putting it in the Ole Cat. Never happened. When the chance came along I bought my brother-in-laws then 2 year old '91 Polaris RXL injected 650 triple. At the time, it was almost top dog, not always, but close enough. Still have it. Love it! Will never get tired of hearing the rumble of a nasty-ass triple! Had quite a few sleds over the years, and really wish that I would have hung onto 😕 more of them as some of them are really rare now! But, we still have 6 sleds yet and as the kids are older now, we should be able to add to our collection!😊
I had the 99 T cat hooper 1108 in it cluched reeds the whole 9 was and still is my all time favorite sled hopefully getting the 2024 T cat shortly want a sled with the power steering 21.5 k compared to 3500 on the 99 with 1200 org miles was exhausting riding that all day hopefully this power steering makes a big difference with the rider fatigue
Love both. I own a 2009 CFR 128” with all the bolt ons but single pipe (192+hp) and can tell you that its a similar race on ice. I have raced 2 Tcats with similar mods up to 2000ft and the CFR rules. The light weight and the massive torque off the hit makes pretty much everything look slow. Great video man! Appreciated!
I got a crazy thundercat story for yeh. Year 2000 I was walking home drunk age 16 and seen this unit shining at the front door of a house. I could help but notice it as I was a cottage goer for years already driving sleds. The guy literally just bought it off the showroom floor, had shrimp dinner and got wasted. When he got home he took it off his trailer and parked it at his door for the next day. He then went into a deep drunk sleep. I was walking home at 2:30 am when I seen it. He left the gate to his compound open and his trailer tilted like a true drunk. Young me could not miss the opportunity. I know, stupid me. 100lb soaking wet me, pulled it over 4 times and then took off down the street to not be seen for many days. I went home, got my sled licence, helmet, boots and gear and told my parents I was staying at a friend’s to go sledding. This snow machine rained supreme for years. I had it for 4 days before I got caught and put lots of time on it. Beautiful machine and I got to experience it like most may not get to. I drove it like I stole it because I did. Nothing can stop you on a machine like this if your experienced. They had to catch me sleeping 😂 I talked to the owner at court and he was a solid guy. He was just mad he didn’t get to take it on its maiden voyage. I did take great care of it even tho it was throttled wide open a lot. I already had years of sled experience by then.
tripples will remind you what fast really is. only thing faster then a triple 2 stroke is a turbo'd triple 2 stroke. but as with all snowmobiles, clutching and suspension setup is top priority.
My 900 ZR could take on either one of them. Unless you guys know something I don’t. We used to drag race in the WSRF. Advantage goes to the Twin cylinder. Unless you’re running them for 2 miles.
I love the og cats not a fan of technology lol. Had a 79 jag340 built to the moon and it was the most fun sled to ride not much for traction and top speed of maybe 65 made it an awesome ditch banger
Great vid. About 44 kilo difference, that's huge and it did surprisingly well even with that much more weight. As you said in a 1000ft race the T-cat would probably win most of the races. Can you do a 1000ft race? Would be interesting to see.
The TCat engine is a long range runner. You can beat it out of the hole but Once those long legs spool up and start sprinting you’re done! Need a longer run.
I dont know if you guys would be interested. I just picked up a 2004 Arctic cat 500 tbx that is in 9/10 condition. Located in lloydminster Alberta! She’s minty! Give me a shout
I can’t believe the M1000 won. They have never been known as fast. They’re power band is at 7,200-7,400 rpms. Meant for long pulls in the steep and deep. Comparing a a Tcat and a F1000 would be a better comparison.
That and a triple usually makes more power than a twin tho the twin should have more torque down low probably another reason it just wanted to spin besides being a lot lighter of a sled
so couple things the m1000 should smoke it every time do to the length of track and the gearing let alone second the thundercat driver needs to learn how to launch if the actually launched at the same time it would have been closer
So the triple started winning only when you switched riders, hard to tell how the sleds actually are then if it’s the riders making that much of a diff
Never ever let off the gas and then punch it again. You are back shifting to a different gear ratios Maybe you guys need to stud them both. That’s way too much power.
I only wanted to see what matters, top speed. Half mile or more drag so Thundercat can really get into it's legs. A 450ft drag is stupid sorry. It's like taking a fuel dragster and doing laps on a nascar track. Al triple's need room to get going then it's over. Please do proper test I hate it when people drag race in 1/4 mile or shorter with triples there not built for that.
I had a T-cat blow by me on the trail once as a teenager. Scared the shit out of me but left a huge impression of what a real man was!
Agreed nothing sounds better
Almost a 100 lb difference, 9 year difference, and one being aftermarket vs a stock thundercat speaks volumes of the thundercat!
@@FlintFreedomGotAnAk I'm not a fan of the pod filters either. Besides hot air you lose the air velocity and midrange power a tuned airbox delivers.
Gearing would make a big difference. M1000 has lower gearing.
Stock Thundercat holding its own against a lighter sled with 10 more years of technology and aftermarket parts? Not to mention how absolutely perfect that machine is, I would more than happily take that Thundercat home with me over the M1000 any day, any time!
The T cat has a reputation of kicking a$$ in ANY ERA of snowmobiles! Thanks for watching!
I would say the track difference had a bunch to do with that be a fairer race against a CF1000 !! 153 VS 136
Teach the first Thundercat driver how to start
Yes a longer race the T-Cat will smoke the M1000. A more fair comparison would be the Crossfire 1000 or the CFR 1000 vs the T-cat. Great video. The best videoed races on UA-cam. Stats, drone video and finish line! Well done. I've ripped on both the T-cat and a 08 Crossfire 1000 and both are strong.
Would love to see these rolling at 50 mph and seeing what they would do.
If they are not studded that would be the best way to do it for sure. All that torque Would cause the belt to slip down into the torque converter. So you’re right it would be way better.
T cat would destroy that pig
I've got a 1997 EXT 580 EFI Deluxe that I ride often. I keep it clean and maintained. Great to see a channel like this because i grew up with these old Cats and dreamt of 93 thundercats when I was in 7th grade!
This is quality content here. I love this channel. Thank you!
Of course the M1000 is gonna win in a short race with such a long trace. stud both and race on ice, The Tcat will smoke the M1000 every single time
My dad’s cousin had a TCat when I was young had the pleasure of riding it when I was about 8. Legs flying straight out behind me
I was surprised at the weight difference. I've ridden both of these sleds and they are in incredible shape and super fast! Great video guys!
Totally agree!
The triple T cat is one of my all time favorite sleds...those triples are just pure sound porn.
Thanks for watching!
The crossfire 1000
With simple mods is a weapon. Big power lite weight very fast.
M1000 isn’t a top end sled like say a CFR 1000. But id have to put my money on a CFR vs thundercat with equal mods and HP. But those old triples just keep pulling so idk.

Great Story! Triples are awesome. Thanks for watching!
Can hear the Tcat just getting going at 450' mark too.
The Thundercat is one of arctic cats greatest creations.
Power steering would be a plus! I bet the 1108 is fast.
All cats all good its kinda funny a 25 year old t cat keeps up still to this day in some cases long live the ZRT 1000

Great video. Turned out how I figured. I own both sleds. T Cat is king of a longer run. Good job, great video!
Thunder cat for the win with just the sound of it ❤
I got a crazy thundercat story for yeh. Year 2000 I was walking home drunk age 16 and seen this unit shining at the front door of a house. @@OldSchoolArcticCats 🤟
@@OldSchoolArcticCats I might go buy one soon to bring back memories.
Both awesome sleds I've raced both of them and these videos don't show how well kept and fast these sleds are awesome video looking forward to more!
Thanks 👍
I had a 1994 thundercat 900 that couldn’t be beat.
1994 TCat amazing snowmobile! Thanks for watching.
The ZRT 800 actually out-dragged the T-Cat in the quarter mile, maybe throw one into the race as well
You should get yourself a CFR1000 (even called Crossfire R) and tune it up a lot.
The 99 MC is geared 20/39 which is 92mph at 1:1. Stock trail gearing for a 121" T-Cat is 24/39 which is 111mph at 1:1
That’s a huge difference in gearing. Thanks for watching!
Awesome comparison. Gotta love the Thunder Cat. I think a 121" track on it would make it superb.
No it needs the longer track to hook up all that power
tripples will remind you what fast really is. only thing faster then a triple 2 stroke is a turbo'd triple 2 stroke. but as with all snowmobiles, clutching and suspension setup is top priority.
My 900 ZR could take on either one of them. Unless you guys know something I don’t. We used to drag race in the WSRF. Advantage goes to the Twin cylinder. Unless you’re running them for 2 miles.
I drag raced 1000 Thunder Cat’s many times. They could beat just about every one. Except me.
That Thundercat is sexy! Fun to watch but I think driver had a lot to do with the results lol
Imagine living beside that field 😂
Amazing selling point. Front row seat to arctic cat races.
I have a 98 Black magic Monster cat, 1000 cc in a zr cross country chassis, its kind of a sleeper, I have never seen another one
That’s awesome. I bet it rips!
I love the og cats not a fan of technology lol. Had a 79 jag340 built to the moon and it was the most fun sled to ride not much for traction and top speed of maybe 65 made it an awesome ditch banger
If you went a longer distance the T-cat would take it
There are quite a few more differences than there are similarities in those two. A lake run with with icy hardpack would be interesting....
Great vid. About 44 kilo difference, that's huge and it did surprisingly well even with that much more weight. As you said in a 1000ft race the T-cat would probably win most of the races. Can you do a 1000ft race? Would be interesting to see.
Fun video!! The clutching on the Thundercat is off a mile, its way over revving. Get it down to 8,000 rpm.
The TCat engine is a long range runner. You can beat it out of the hole but Once those long legs spool up and start sprinting you’re done!
Need a longer run.
Those poor residents in that neighborhood hahaha braaaaaapppp
Well done video and excellent choice in sleds to compare, fun stuff. I subscribed. Big Cat follower and collector, looking forward to more videos
Awesome! Thank you!
I dont know if you guys would be interested. I just picked up a 2004 Arctic cat 500 tbx that is in 9/10 condition. Located in lloydminster Alberta! She’s minty! Give me a shout
Not a artic cat fan but that Thundercat is bad ass
Right!!
What sled do ride? Thanks for watching!
Mountain sled vs lake sled. Crossfire 1000 would have been a closer adversary. But either way cool race
I can’t believe the M1000 won. They have never been known as fast. They’re power band is at 7,200-7,400 rpms. Meant for long pulls in the steep and deep. Comparing a a Tcat and a F1000 would be a better comparison.
You must have good neighbors
That and a triple usually makes more power than a twin tho the twin should have more torque down low probably another reason it just wanted to spin besides being a lot lighter of a sled
Side note I'm not too familiar with sleds out here in the midwest but love my motorcycles and that's just what I've noticed between twins and triples
Im shocked that there is a 100# difference between the two.
Cool seeing reviews on some old sleds.
Nice video man thanks for the cool video I run a 2000 m1000 sno pro and a f7 firecat sno pro
Good choice!
@@OldSchoolArcticCats yes sir meant 2009
The 04 F7 is such a good sled, mine over 10k kms, 153, 2 inch , fuel pressure regulator, Suzuki motor for the win👍
Third race the m1000 got the jump!
Lighter, more Track Lug, and Length! Obviously what will Win?! 😮 Do a full mile rip and find out!!
all i want to know is how you got the sleds so clean
You’re getting the jump on every race.guy on thundercat starts sucks.saying that was fun video to watch.like to see a longer race
so couple things the m1000 should smoke it every time do to the length of track and the gearing let alone second the thundercat driver needs to learn how to launch if the actually launched at the same time it would have been closer
The TCat needs 1000 feet.
450ft stretch try stretching it to 10 miles haha i got the yukon to race on.
Get timming lights or a the app for your phone. He who leaves first wins first.
So the triple started winning only when you switched riders, hard to tell how the sleds actually are then if it’s the riders making that much of a diff
I like the m1000
All races were won by reaction time. The one guy who started on the T -Cat needs to quit drag racing.
As an owner of a 02 tcat, couldn't klclick fast enough
Way old vs old, 100pd weight diff, way bigger track on M1000, little mods on M1000. Not really a good comparison. Cool video though.
Cool shootout. Your starts were off tho.
We will improve! Thanks for watching!
put a lighter rider on the Thundercat and a heavy rider on the M1000 with a full tank of gas
I had a 2010 CFR 1000 that would have been more equal I would think. The M1000 is a longer track.
Your thunder cat has all the wrong parts
Can on triples are a loss
Pods are a loss, restriction
Finger track doesn't put power to the ground
Take the thunder cat with a little clutch work.
Thanks for watching! T Cats are awesome.
Never ever let off the gas and then punch it again. You are back shifting to a different gear ratios Maybe you guys need to stud them both. That’s way too much power.
Now put a 998 in the next video
i will never understand articat haters
oh wait... their balls haven't dropped and are busy breaking in the yamaha daddy bought them
Your buddy is about 80 or 100 pounds lighter lol
Riders about the same weight?
Ya shoulda tried a few longer pulls.
I get what you did though
Way too short of a race especiallybforvtge triple imo
I only wanted to see what matters, top speed. Half mile or more drag so Thundercat can really get into it's legs. A 450ft drag is stupid sorry. 450ft is not enough room for a big triple. 😂😂😂😂try a mile see how it goes. The 1000 twin is a joke. 800 ho blows the doors off them
Really.?
Who ever is riding the tcat don't know how to ride
Watching the one guy on the newer sled constantly cheat was of no value what so ever. Waist of my time!
To bad it's all articles cat not interested
I would like to see the balls to the wall top end speed numbers😊
Me too!
beautiful sleds subscribed
Awesome thank you!
