- I did my annual solo winter trip again. Last year it was the Shetland isles, this year it's the Outer Hebrides. With weather warnings for sub-zero temps with snow and ice, this was never going to be easy - or a good idea!

Loved that Richy! Very sensitively handled in Dunblane. Well done mate. 💔😢
Love it, this trip “is just you and me”. You’re setting the standard mate with these adventures, the commentary and the anticipation of every upload to come. 🙌🏻
There’s no UA-camr I love more than you Richy ❤ and I know before I watch this, that it’s going to be amazing 😎
Thank you for your kind words, James!
That was great, can't wait for the next bit, Well done on the snow. Best regards 🙃
No words! Truly amazing Richy and respectful moments in Dunblane.
13:50 I loved that scenery Richy. The lake wasn't bad either.
How is it you’re always around with a camera when women are swimming in rivers? 😂
I have a specific set of talents. 👍😂
The bit you stopped to see that house is called Talla Dam.
Great work Rich - really enjoyed that, some stunning images and a lovely ride (rather you than me though!!!). Looking forward to seeing the rest of this series…👍
Nice ride. I live in the US., one of the worries we have is large wildlife such as deer, moose, and elk wandering into the roads. If in a rural area you have to worry about loose farm animals. Some of those animals weigh as much as your motorcycle and you combined. It is not a common occurrence but often enough to keep you looking for them. I used to live in the middle part of the country and would go for long weekends on my bike. Great time meeting interesting people and finding great little roadside cafes and bars with good food.
The wee road from Loch Tay over to Glen Lyon is usually blocked by snow drifts from December to March. So even if there wasn't fresh snow lying, I doubt you will have got more than a mile beyond where you turned round. They try to keep the road open up to the carpark for Ben Lawers and the dam, but they don't try too hard as the priority is to keep the main roads open in winter, so kids can get to school and people to work and the shops.
Very nice landscapes. Scotland is really beautiful. I love the scenery in winter time. Road trips in rain, sleet and snow are a totally different experience, I agree, and they are fantastic. That AT is a wonder too. Thank you for all this enjoyment, although very touched by the Dunblane unfortunate happening 😔 Of course, I wish you safe roads ahead of you, allways. ✌
Bro please keep uploading your editing and style is amazing!
Thank you very much 👍
Great to see my local roads through others rides, thank you for sharing. Ben Lawers road is beautiful in the right conditions, but definitely not in the snow. Next time you're up this way check out the road less travelled to the left, I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Kudos to you sir, I live in NE Scotland and would not go anywhere near the winter mountain roads you been on. Stunning ride and mother nature at her finest 👍
Just watched the first 2 episodes back to back and you my man have balls of steel doing that ride in those conditions.... I've got one wee recommended route for you to try out next time you're up that away.
If you're on the A87 heading north take a detour at Shiel Bridge, Glenshiel campsite for the Glenelg ferry over to isle of skye. Its on old military road and the ride on a nice clear day is immense. Even better in my opinion going from skye to mainland. Bit winding in parts on single track on skye, BUT..... you'll get to enjoy the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world with the chance to see , sea eagles golden eagles, otters , sometimes dolphin's at the crossing. Plus there's a nice cafe there for a cuppa n a nice bit of cake......
Mega. Thanks for that 🙌
+1 for the Glenelg Ferry
I used to holiday in Callander just a few miles from Dunblane it was a beautiful place before all the tourists discovered it.
The Callander highland games were a special treat.
Looking good Richy .👍 bit scarey when the snow came in there.😮😮 great tour so far , that hotel looked great and welcoming for you .Looking forward to the rest of your tour mate , the stills where amazing at the end .Stay safe .👍 And God bless the angels of Dunblane .
Thamkfully no music. But you really do talk too much.. too much small talk. Found that turning the sound off produces a good video
Whole point is so I can talk to you! 😂
Richy i knew it was going too be good, but this was really worth waiting for and its only just the tip of the iceberg.... cannot wait till next sunday mate🥲 but it looks like i have too. cracking job Richy
Regards Glenn👍👏
“Tip of the iceberg” perfect description!
I explored the roads from Edinburgh to the borders last summer, on my 97 VFR, there’s many of them and even in the summer they weren’t busy. St Mary’s loch, with the swimmers, is a great place for a bacon butty and a meet up with other bikers. 👍
This is going to be a spectacular series. Very inspirational thankyou!
Finally sat down to binge watch the whole series whoop whoop 🙌 bloody amazing 🤩
Richy, after Shetland I’ve been looking forward to this. Great start, quiet respect in Dunblane -very moving. Thanks for taking us along 👍👍👍👏 RVRTW next?
If I didn’t have a young daughter at home, I wouldn’t hesitate to take on a “serious” trip. But I do, and she’s more important that messing around on bikes! 👍
@@RichyVida Sounds like your priorities are spot on Richy 👍
Hey Richy, We loved your first video of your trip. A variety of landscape, elements, towns and people passing by. Really solo riding through winter Uk and Scotland. Wonderful ❤️👍🏻🙋♀️🙋♂️
Brilliant video Richy. We,re looking forward to Part 2. Thanks
Been waiting for this one rich excellent really enjoyed that brave man riding in that snow . Thank you always look forward to your videos
Absolutely fabulous. Being a local Scot I'm on those roads regular you were on. St Mary's Loch & Tala Reservoir, cracking spots. Up by Killin falls through to Pitlochry
Very touching you took the time to stop at Dunblane
After the 3 lochs I expected you to head for the Mennock Pass (another belter of a ride)
Unfortunate with the weather on Lawers (it’s a nice if gravelly road over to the
Brig O Balgie and the run down Glen Lyon is nice
Another Belter Richy
Finally get to sit back and relax with this awesome trip. Mate, I'm in awe!!! Just stunning!!
Mega first episode Rich. All the seasons in one video!! Very touching at Dunblane, massive respect to you for doing that. Cant wait for the next one. Maybe surpassed 'North' already! Thank you👍
Absolutely amazing! Really like the format of video with pictures at the end, and what amazing pics they were! Looking forward to the next one. Cheers 👍
8pm tonight 👍
Thank you so much Richi
A emotional journey
You deserve that whisky 🥃
Stay safe my friend
If I may call you that 🏍🌬🙏🏻
Braver man than me Richy, No matter how much we love a run up to St Mary's Loch (where the swimmers were) I'll not be doing it until the weathers better. Another great video 👏
Richie, I'm gobsmacked... Who needs Spain. Just ride north.
Wow. The effort u put into getting the perfect edit and surroundings.
You're something else Rich.
You're waisted on UA-cam. You should show this at the cinema 🏆👍💪 amazing. Well done. AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN GET THE DRONE OUT..... WOW!!!
Wow, thanks! And the drone does come out.. at some point 👍
3 loch run at moffat always amazing. Not a dry eye in the house watching you at Dunblane, Respect mate. One of your best so far 👏👏👏
So bloody annoying when you live in Scotland and an Englishman comes up shows you some nice roads you've never been on 😂. These little B roads are also my favourite and the AT is the perfect bike to do it on. Hotel did look posh. Now onto p2
Richy, what can i say you are a legend, top commentary, very respectful at Dumblane, as always. be safe.
loving this your road trips are something else .total respect to you for paying respect in Dunblane .stay safe have a safe trip and looking forward to the next episode all the best from skeggy
I thought I'd subbed to your channel, tbh I know I did, after looking at who I'm subbed too, UA-cam seemed to of deleted a few of my subscribers and who I'd added grr 😠, odd that this was Friday 13th a week before my birthday, I've now subbed again 🤙.
A great video to watch and I'll now be able to keep up with your adventures.
Thanks for sharing and see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤟 🤙
I had to edit my message as I was premature in what I'd seen, wow, the views are epic and Scotland is on my bucket list, I totally understand what you said about paying your respects 🙏.
The trip gave me Goosebumps, I can't even imagine how it would feel like being there, the vistas are spectacular.
I really hope I can afford to go there one day. Not sure my 125cc would make it 🤔😄.
Fooking hell, that truck definitely peed on you lol with the splash back 😆.
Right I've said enough haha. I'm gonna watch Ep2 .
Still love this episode.
Scottish Borders are amazing.
So many people blast past on a Motorway.
I ride around ther all the time and it’s as good as anywhere else in the world .
Nice to see you pushing the AT again.. I chickened out on buying mine as im not 100% sure i can get it round my back garden lol
What a change, heated clothing , sat nav’s,all weather tyres and posh overnight stops,a world away from leaking Barbour suits ,open face helmets with a scarf and steamy goggles plastic bags inside your boots ,Avon roadmasters and b&b’s or hostels with nowhere to dry your kit, makes a long distance ride possible,in my day 20m in snow or freezing rain was a success story
That snow that falls quickly enough to coat a road - just above freezing - is the worst stuff because it's as slippery as f**k. My palms were sweating watching that!
No one will ever forget those kids, nicely handled mate.😔🙏
Richy, you make the best motorcycle travel videos. I thought it would be brilliant and you didn't disappoint 🙂
Happy to hear that! Thank you
I think there are very few places in the world where people are happy to have a conversation standing outside in the freezing rain. There and here in the Pacific Northwest of the USA are on the short list. Brilliant ride. Thanks for taking us along. :)
Hoping to visit some North Western states next year 👍
Yeah very good Richy, I only ride in Scotland & never once have I met 2 hotties swimming! 🤬🤣👍
All that heated gear must make some difference & glad it made it a little bit easier for you mate! 👍🙂
Oh it makes all the difference. Removed any form of discomfort from n cold riding. Just wished I’d found it earlier!
that hill up and over to Glen Lyon was always going to be dodgy.. next time pop in and see us in Kinloch Rannoch for a warm up!
Richy Vida, the madman in the wild. What a brilliant video. While I was watching your videos I had no problems in the world they all just melted away. Thank you for sharing your time with us. 📹❄️🏍️👍
Well thank you saying so. It’s good to know you could immerse yourself in it, just as intended! Many thanks!
Think you win best (expensive) gear recommendation. Beat that TMF 😀
Thanks Richy, what a start to your trip, stunning border roads and awesome scenery, good shout to turn back in the snow, respect to you for giving your thoughts to the families and friends of that very sad day in Dunblane, good to see you reached Pitlochry safely too, cheers Mitch 👍
pitlochry has a salmon ladder
Brilliant mate. Watched from the relative safety of the underside of a duvet in a Brussels Hotel room 🤓. Love it pal, as allus
what a wicked hotel in Pitlochry. that looks like a lot of fun ......"Hey Be Safe Out There"
I should just have watched a bit further into the video!😂 Garmin Adventurous Route , I see.
Respect to those (tough!) lady swimmers. Maybe get yourself a heated wetsuit eh? 😂
Try telling that to a ‘Knight Templar’ ….. Friday 13th nonsense 😂
Epic, and I’m watching from 32 deg in New Caledonia 😂
Never fail to impress
99K views that’s a huge differential compared to other Richy Vida vids. Just shows power of Bikinis and titles!
Episode 2 has more likes and more comments, and is nipping at the heels of ep 1 in terms of views. So, it’s not “all” down to bikinis! 👍
Great Video Richy.
Not sure if it's call these winter trips adventurous or crazy......but certainly brave. Good decision on turning around when you did.
Didn't realise you'd done the back roads through West Yorkshire to get to Oxenhope, you couldn't have popped in for a coffee as I'm about 15 min away. 😁
The next episodes look "fun".
G
Amazing Richy! You've got some bottle pal! (yes it had single malt in it)! Beautiful Scotland, we're off to Fort Augustus in July to do a tour.
Looks to have been a great start to your trip, I salute your brave choice to still go despite forecasts of snow and ice, strong effort 💪🏻
Fantastic mate. Cracking hotel as well.
29:18 that laugh reminds me "fight in the shade scene- 300 spartans" :D
I was sipping a dram of Arron 10 when I was watching this episode - what a coincidence! Road conditions most Americans cannot even dare to ride a Jeep Wrangler, is a piece of cake for you on a motorcycle - Man with balls of Steel :)
What a journey, hats off to you for amazing road skills. I've ridden in snow on an XJR1300 and it's not fun. The Pine Tree Hotel is a lovely hotel, we stayed there last year and loved it. Safe travels.
Brilliant, love your winter trips to Scotland. You picked a great route by the looks of things from Moffat to Pitlochry. You definitely made the right decision to turn back on that road (looks like the one just after Killin where you hang a left). I had my GS up there last February in similar conditions and was cacking it. Anyways loving your videos and looking forward to the next instalment…….
The Falls of Dochart in Killin are well worth a look for people travelleing in the area.
When you said (at 34:35) that you had 17 miles to go and that you were crapping yourself, I was thinking "shit the bed, that looks proper sphincter tightening".
Wait til the next one! 😵💫
@@RichyVida I saw the insta posts. 💩🛏️
Sorry. Watching you on my iPad and the news on my phone…. Posted my last comment to the wrong video. 😂😂 oops. Awks
Loving the tour though. Western Scotland is amazing.
Haha I did scratch my head a bit haha
Loved watching that, I admire and respect your willingness to endure conditions like that. I ride all year round because I commute, but not sure if I’d be as brave as you and face that lol, then again I’m riding an RT.
Brilliant video, and very respectful part in Dunblane, I live in central Scotland and remember it well…..a horrific event. Anyway, thanks for sharing :)
This is my first of your vlogs I’ve seen. Loved it. Love all your gear too. But, unless I’ve missed it, there’s no mention of your sat nav your using ? 🤷🏼♂️
All the best.
Cheers Steve.
Yep, there’s a few vids mentioning the nav. It’s the Garmin Zumo XT. 👍
Hey man, just discovered your channel and motorbike touring is a new one for me to watch, usually 4wd, hiking and mountaineering.
Enjoying the video though. I wanted to say that you made the right call on Ben Lawers by turning back, you weren't a huge way away from the top of the pass but a lot of that road up is fresh tarmac so gets slippery but mostly, the way down the other side is washed out, rutted and stoney and few crach barriers.the Glen on the other side, although beautiful (especially in full autumnal colours) has a lot of water.
Welcome Mike. Cheers for that 👍
As always, it's great to watch mate, question... what brand of bag is your DSLR in? Love the idea of quick access to my camera. I have a sw motech tank bag, but this is occupied with other touring gear.
It’s the Pro RearBag from SW-Motech. It’s a great bag. Fits spot on, and dead east to flick on and off. Should be a link in description 👍
sorry Richy. motorcycling is supposed to be fun, unstressful enjoyment, go back to the Dr and start taking the tablets again pal. this would be torture to me... although I will watch it. keep safe and don't do owt daft.
Thanks Mick. I do make a comment soon that I guess you guys (viewers) will be as nervous watching as I was riding!
Wow.
After listening to your podcast with Bruce I decided to watch this video series.
45 year old bloke blubbering when the piano came on.
Thank you.
Oh welcome, and thank you very much 🙏
Excellent video 📹 Richy, stunning scenery! Just great to be on the road 👌. Looking forward to seeing more of the adventure. Cheers, Steve
welcome to scotland i ride all year round so i know the weather conditions
That house next to the Megget Reservoir impressed me as well but I can't imagine to ride in that weather not even mentioning to swim ;)
Never even heard of that dublane massacure till I googled it after you stopped there.. wow...no words
Bet the hotel electricity bill.....will Be enormous.......❤
Awesome Richy, never been to the outer hebrides looking forward to the rest 👍 Brave man on that snow. Big lad definitely showing his worth
did yer get a slap off the missis when yer got back lol
Go over the Ben Lawers road and into Glen Lyon on a good day. You could make it a round trip to Killin with off road tyres on the Hydro Road...Glen Lyon is Scotland's longest glen.
We did go over it in the summer 👍
I am new to Biking. What the exact name of this Bike ? Thanks ❤ and I love watching your videos. Greetings from Germany ❤
Thank you! It’s the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports - CRF1100 👍
Quite the start of the trip😮good move to go to lower elevation. 100 feet can make the difference 🤓👍🏻😎🏍💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🍻from British Columbia
👋🏻 I just wondered what tyres you’re running here? I’m astonished how good they are in the conditions you put them through. Sorry if this has been asked or I missed it in the video
Heidenau K-60 Ranger’s. Yep, you missed it 😉 superb tyre that defo earned their place in my top 3 knobbly tyres after this trip!
And here am I, thinking I’m a full-on mental biker. Then I watch a Richy Vida trip……Just another level! 🏴
My kind of roads too, maybe not temperatures!
Loving the idea of heated clothing. Your particular brand seems hard to get down under in Australia. Though have found some good brands that may be good.
Yes defo give it a shot if you haven’t before. Makes a world of difference to winter riding!
Man you have guts. I loved it and I admire you.
Wow, brilliant video, I know all these Scottish roads so well. I live in Perthshire, I was very concerned for you riding over towards Pitlochry in the snow. Really enjoyed that, well done you for paying your respect’s,
Bring on more videos. . 🏍🏍👏👏
Helmeted, garbed and standing behind your ‘iron steed’ on the banks of a Scottish River you so strongly reminded Me of an knight-errant (a figure of medieval chivalric romance literature).
The adjective “errant” indicates how the knight-errant would wander the land in search of adventures to prove his chivalric virtues, either in knightly duels or in some other pursuit of courtly love.
Safe journey, Galant Sir, from Adelaide Australia.
Absolutely cracking episode, well done.
There is nothing like a solo adventure - it’s freedom defined.
You're a braver man than me Richy and I was born there. I guess 50yrs of living in Australia has made me soft. Don't ride when it's above 34C and don't ride when it's under 15C but I'm good 9mths of year 😊😊
Good effort.
I've taken the hint and bought a heated waistcoat.
Won't be venturing out in the snow though! Too many memories of sliding off on the way to school in the early 80's!
Impressed with the tyres!
Safe, happy travels 👍
Thanks Richy, posting before I have seen the whole vid - tears for Dunblane Primary School, thanks for stopping!! Graeme S NZ
Great that Richy.. nice touch in dunblane 🙏 ...looking forward to the rest..👍🏻👍🏻Ride Safe mate 🤞🤜🤛
I have been looking forward to this for a couple of weeks, you haven't disappointed either.
Amazing trip.
Top episode mate, those rivers looked angry, and the snow phew good job you
turned round when you did, cracking stills at the end too ;-)
PS that can sounds awesome ;-)
