Enjoyed that Rich - really gave a sense of what its like out on the road on those long solo tours (which reminds me, I must do one!) - great vews too. Loved the fact you were so chuffed about the manual railway crossing...showing your young age!!! Looking forward to the rest of this series....nice one pal!
Brilliant advice about the battery bank, I will be definitely trying that trick and great advice about using alternative roads off the NC500 route. I had a motor home push me off the road on the pass of cattle last summer. The tomtom rider 500 is an amazing but of kit if you are after a good satnav unit. The supporting app for your desktop or phone has amazing tools for making a detailed trip and automatically updates the satnav unit. There is also a community tab where you can view and download other peoples routes. Watching your channel inspired me to make my own videos. Thanks for the hours of enjoyable viewing over the years.
Rich. What a brilliant video mate. Bit less stressful for us to watch rather than 2 years ago as you didn’t do the long haul in one day this time, starting at Daft O’Clock. Still just a small sanity check when you rode next to a brace of lads on skis!!. You failed spectacularly. Well done pal 👀🤣🤣🤣🤣. As you know, I bought my own AT after your previous trip, largely because of your vids. For any biker, who is not actually there on the ride, your videos are just tops - THE best as the “Virtual” ride entertaining / fun version mate, and I should know, as I was 3000 miles away last time, and ya kept me sane pal. Cheers !.
Sat here watching this on a Sunday evening with the heating on full blast. I need to get out of my comfort zone. But until then, I'll keep watching these great vids. All the best!
I drove up that same road in winter, to Glenshee ski centre from Dover in an artic to deliver a generator for the ski lift, absolutely stunning. The guy that runs the place unloaded this 4 ton generator with that tiny little yellow digger you caught on film, needless to say, it didn't go well 🤣
Hey Rich, powerful stuff. When the music came on at the end you had me going too! And truly life affirming that the thrill of a train driver waving never gets old. A great start to a Monday, thank you. Chris
Hi Rich. Thoroughly enjoying this! It was good to see the wonderful A93 again. Love the Africa Twin. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this series. Great start to the series Rich. Loved the manual railway crossing! Reminded me of having to open gates in North Yorkshire. That train however was moving some and so the trust in that community is obviously high. Looking forward to part two.
superb really enjoyed that the anxiety of the ice made my teeth itch! Well done that little car park pull in could have been a mistake! Well in looking forward to the next.
Just getting round to watching this series and loving it so far! Ive been running Anlas Capra X on my GSA for 4 yrs now and they’re bloody fantastic! Best knobblies ive ever had for tarmac and absolutely brilliant off road on the big heavy BMW. Off to watch episode 2..
Enjoying this. Why do you only go to Scotland in the middle of winter. I used to ride a bike in Scotland in the winter when I was to young and broke to by a car. It was bloody cold, howling gales a horizontal pissing rain. Or when it was snowing and took the bus. Try the early spring before the crowds come out. PS if you can figure out how to put skis on a bike, I might enjoy a road trip round Some Rocky Mountain Ski Hills
Been waiting for this one ever since you teased about it…great opening shot! You certainly have some big brass ones, cause some of those roads looked like they were on the verge of icing over and you were goosing the throttle. Good on you mate, very much looking forward to the next vid. Cheers!
Superb 1st ep. Can’t wait for the rest to unfold. Love the fact how it becomes more personal when you’re not with the lads. It’s a nice change, although I love the gang you ride with. I’m getting the feeling this is a journey which means a lot to you though and I hope you reveal why as the trip continues. Really beautiful film Rich. Well done man.👍🎥
Can see why you opted for those knobblies! Thought you were mad at first. Terrific vid. And pictures (big ol’DSLR lugger myself, when you see them on the big screen you realise why you do.)
Fantastic video richy I've watched a couple of times ...wow look at the views ....cant wait to see more of this series ...a garmin xt is the way to go m8 you won't be disappointed...Great work m8 much appreciated 👏
Great stuff.i love to think some people are looking at you and saying in he right in the head riding in the snow and the others are say ah god help him his car must have broke down 😆 lol.shetland Islands are coming😄🥶🥶
Another awesome video from you, really enjoyed it that much at I’m heading that way in July, I feel your pain with the whole visor thing, pinlock are great when they work
Really enjoyed that Richy, what a great start too the interesting adventure so looking forward to the next upload.. Brilliant job with editing👌 .Regards Glenn.
Stuck over in South Asia with work commitments, watching RICHYVIDA and wishing I was in UK touring some stunning roads and beautiful scenery. Getting the popcorn ready tomorrow as Ep 2 looks to be a belter. Fantastic viewing as always Richie 👍
Brilliant video Richy - your such a natural and your video captures the very nature of planning for a solo ride over long distances and into inhospitable climate - cold 🥶 and ❄️. Thank you for your efforts. Did like your rear pro rear tail pack - looks a good bit of kit 👍
Great first episode Rich, looking forward to the rest. I did a last minute John O’Groats and back last year and had a similar emotional experience, just came out of the blue. I put it down to not being able to get out much over the last couple of years and then suddenly finding myself in the most epic of places. I wasn’t man enough to include it in my vid 😉
Rich. A great start to a long awaited trip. Thanks mate 👍🏻.. You always seem to lead me down the garden path every time with new stuff you buy, ha ha ha 🤣 .. As you say, most phones are waterproof now. Phone mount is now ordered as I haven't been impressed with the ultimate add-on's iPhone 12's waterproof case for lack of use with touch sensitive gloves, and the fact I couldn't use the on/off button to pay for stuff because of the hinges. For full disclosure, the iPhone 8plus waterproof case was perfect. Thanks for the discount link, much appreciated. Keep doing what you do best. 👏🏻
What a cracking start to this series , well done Rich fantastic editing , pictures , and the roads and scenery was outstanding , looking forward to the next episode 👍🏻
Brilliant video Richy, enjoyed seeing my local roads and how much you appreciated them. The little Gairn at 18:15 and over the humpback bridge is a personal favourite. I always stop at the top to take it all in. It never gets old. Looking forward to part 2
Brilliant days ride Rich. Some amazing views of the sky and scenery around you as you were out & about. Love my Nikon D750 as well - it’s a solid workhorse.
Watched a couple of Travel Beans vids of their tour of Scotland earlier and then this (obviously yours is far better) and you've got me all bloody homesick, although I'm not sure I could handle those roads in that condition as well as you nowadays.
Top notch Sunday night tele! Been looking forward to this since you said you were going to be doing a Scotland trip a few months back. Can't wait to get back up there myself....when it's a bit warmer! Fair weather rider 🤷🏼♂️😂 At 35:30, that bridge over the river, just before you did the hard right, if you'd continued on the B9176, it leads to Bonar Bridge, it's a fantastic road and has a SPECTACULAR viewpoint looking down the Dornoch Firth. Way too easy to stay on the A9.
What better way to spend a Sunday evening. Absolutely brilliant. Even turned the heating down to simulate being there. lol Well Done Richy. looking forward to the next one
Enjoyed that Richy, gonads of steel doing it this time of year ❄️❄️😄 definitely time to be getting all my stuff out of hibernation ready for some highland tours 👍
Absolutely brilliant again. When you stopped where they were skiing reminded me of when I road the stelvio in June 2010. I was shock to see people skiing in June. Keep up the brilliant work looking forward to the next instalment.
Great to see you riding through what was my 'Office' every winter when I was driving coach tours. Further north and you'll be in my summer office. Much more fun on two wheels though, even in winter! Thanks for the footage.
@@RichyVida Planning to go on 15 May (before midge season!) from my home on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border and then take a week to to go anticlockwise up the east coast, across the top and down the fabulous west coast, which is why I'm interested to see your route. I've done the NC500 before on a hired bike clockwise from / to Inverness.....but this time I'm taking my own bike straight from home, which will be interesting / challenging!
SUPERB Richy, love how intimate your Solo trips feel! Glad you seen the sunshine as well. Doesn't always rain up here either Its also a tragedy that you don't have more subs to the channel. You're latest tours have been amazing in terms of production value and quality, I've just finished off watching your US tour for the third time again as well. Be great to see the old gang back out together at somepoint, Not seen Egone or Alby in anything for ages?
Did the same kind of trip on my KTM640Adventure about 10 years ago, but in the summer. Great to point the compass north and keep going until the sun goes down, which his late in the summer. All the way to JoG then across to Tongue. Loved it. Looking forward to watching this while I do some domestic chores later...wouldn't fancy it in the ice though.
I do this trip 3 times a year to see my Dad in Strathdon travelling from Berkshire. Takes on average 10 hours on my s1000rr . Cracking roads in the Cairngorms.
Wow, not sure I would ride in those conditions. Then again i would have missed out. lol! Heated gear is awesome when it works but I have had nothing but trouble with the reliability, maybe because I have cheeped out but you seem to be having some great experiences with the heated gear. Looking forward to the next installment. Cheers from a very snowy Northern Ontario Canada.
Brilliant video, sometimes you just need to be by yourself on trips like these, no pressure. You were like a kid when the train driver waved at you, made me laugh. Pleased weather was ok for you. Look forward to the next video. 👍🏻
Love the sound of the Af twin winding up thru the gears.
Me too!

Another top watch, although it really makes me cringe to see you riding on icy roads. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers .
🏁🛵nice enjoyed watching it, watching from my farm in Asia. Made an old man very happy.Thank you

“You know me, I like to be outside my comfort zone” as he plugs his electric Sox in. Posh.
Hahaha fair point!
@@RichyVida looked like a great ride. Nicely done!
Most excellent excursion, the heated gear sounds good for such a trip and the Africa Twin did you proud.
This is fab Rich. Not sure id go there on my own but fair play to you! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Sometimes when it's too good to be true. You get nervous. It's normal.
That gear is top notch.

They just are no words but insanely awesome, please please but all up so I can watch back to back ,
Thanks Carl! Every Sunday night for this series 👍
Just came across this ,while watching the weather for my ride up to JOG,from north Queens ferry.
Now itching to get on the road.
I drove up that same road in winter, to Glenshee ski centre from Dover in an artic to deliver a generator for the ski lift, absolutely stunning. The guy that runs the place unloaded this 4 ton generator with that tiny little yellow digger you caught on film, needless to say, it didn't go well 🤣
Hahaha bloody hell!
Just looking at these beautiful but cold images gives me the shivers. But at the same time, the urge to drive becomes almost uncontrollable.
Fantastic video Rich, great tip for the cameras👍 loved the pictures at the end, that crossing thou 😳
Your a braver man than me, was nervously watching on those slippery roads. Awesome scenery thanks Richy.
Richy man up that electric jacket amazed me after 60 years on 2 wheels haha
Haha it’s a game changer!
Hey Rich, powerful stuff. When the music came on at the end you had me going too! And truly life affirming that the thrill of a train driver waving never gets old. A great start to a Monday, thank you. Chris
Very much enjoyed this video Rich... Great to catch you briefly at motorcycle live and is giving me the buzz to get up to the North!
That was great 👌
It looked like a right faff to get to the camera though rather than one zip on the tank bag. Admittedly more secure.
It was a faff where it was. It’s now in the Rearbag 👍
Hi Rich. Thoroughly enjoying this! It was good to see the wonderful A93 again. Love the Africa Twin. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this series.

Exactly yes. Can’t beat the mighty DSLR 👍
22:50 where you're talking about filming, I find that if I film for a long time, it chunks the recording up when it gets around to transferring it.

Great video, stopped at same filling station on Corbridge as you on my trip up to Hebrides.
What an amazing start to the adventure. Those roads in places didn't look like too much fun with all the ice. Roll on the next episode
Great watch … take my hat off to you on those icy roads … looking forward to your next vid 🤙
Loving the solo ride Rich. Squeaky bum time up at the ski centre. I'd have been proper nervous. Loving the set up on the bike. Mega!
