for next time it's probably easier to prepare 2 metal I-profile bars at standard gauge distance from each other with endings under an angle so you can just place those on top of the tip-bed lorry and chain them up and then position them over the rails so the locomotove can just be pulled up or down the truck in one go after alighing the 'rails' to the actual rails.

It's basically permantly in gear. There should be a pin that comes out which should allow you to slide they drive gear out so it'll just sit there with the flywheel turning, but I've never seen it done.
Wow I want to own a Loco like that! You need to take it to America where it can see it brother and sister locomotives, the Plymouths diesel type engine...
No idea what made The Google recommend this to me but very glad it did. Instasub! Could you tell us about arranging the haulage? Any funniness to do that or is it just another heavy load to them? What does it cost to move a load like that? Anyway, thanks for your vids!
We seem to have done something to appeal to the UA-cam gods. We're very happy though! These guys had never moved a Loco before, so they were loving it. Lots of photos where taken 😂 I have no idea what it cost - the railway paid to have the Ruston visit!
It really was a good experience, they were really good about it, took photos and selfies of getting it on and off. They seemed genuinely proud of completing the challenge!
I remember when the ivatt 2mt tank 41313 went back to the isle of wight I had spent the last couple of weekends polishing it then I looked at the photos of it on the ferry and in their yard and it was covered in twigs. then when 46447 went for a gala it was de ja vu.
It happens a lot when moving things by road, Loco cleaned for journey, less than ideal weather, arrives in a state. Very disappointing for everyone. Especially after putting all that effort in!
@@lmm I bet it was intense. It made it to locate with no problem. Congratulation of rebuilding of Ruston, it looks fantastic I wish had one for myself.
you know Lawrie i was re-watching this video and a stupid thought occurred to me.. apologies if this question is out of line but do you personally have insurance cover on the locomotive or is it covered by which ever railway it happens to be located on at any given point in time? if its you personally then my next question is this.. just how hard did you have to look to find vehicle insurance for a locomotive?
It's insured as part of the MSLRs cover. I don't have individual insurance for it. If it goes elsewhere its insured by the transporter and then at what ever railway it visits.
@@lmm thanks for the answer it was a matter of curiosity on my part and i just had the mental image of it being insured like a car or something and found it hilarious for some reason😀
I’d love to own my loco. Without meaning to pry into your personal finance situation, Just a rough idea of costs to buy a loco like yours, and also roughly what the costs for moving these around ? Do you store it at the Suffolk railway and use it whenever you want for a fee or is it kept predominantly at your home if you have a line there? Sorry I haven’t watched all your videos yet. Hope you don’t mind me asking. Just really interested
Mine was a very good price. Mines currently valued at around the 10k mark, though there are others available for less, like the Ruston 88 for sale at Sdjr Trust or one for sale at Bo'ness. Mine is lightweight and easy enough to move, but depends hugely on distance and hauliers. Mines based at the MSLR, where we have an agreement in place. Hope that clarifies things a little.... Probably not, didn't really answer anything there 😂
i finally found your loco's holiday vid. so, it's a working holiday then. but, since it spends most of it's time now lounging about like a cat in the sun, for your ruston this would be a holiday. i've been wondering, how is it that someone who isn't independently wealthy actually come to own a locomotive? your other toys i can understand. i could have bought a fire truck from the 50's for $3500 usd a few years back, but had nowhere to put it at the time. but a locomotive, owned by a lord? i would think that would be a pricey bit o' kit.
It was a lovely little holiday, we got on TV, it was the centre of attention, and just gentle trundle up and down. Super stuff! As I've mentioned before, the Loco is basically useless to most railways, very slow, not that powerful, and lack of continuous brake, which massively impacts its value. That, and it would seem that Sir William took a liking to me. He liked the fact I really wanted the useless Loco, and we had a plan for it, and wanted to have it in regular use, so that's how. I was so amazed at the deal we struck I had to email the following week to confirm it, as I couldn't quite believe it.
@@lmm there was a business owner close by who had a narrow gauge diesel locomotive, some rolling stock, and about 1 1/2 miles of track in a loop on some property. he said it's worth about 1 mil. usd, but it is quite useless in the real sense. i was basing my question on that information. i'm glad you are able to own such a piece of history. i'm kinda envious to be honest, it's good to have friends in high places. you do know you have the best job ever, right? when you talk about your loco, i can't help but picture you as sir topem hat from tomas the tank engine.
My day job is a lorry driver, which isn't that bad - all the railways I'm part of is voluntary. The UA-cam is an added bit on the side too 😂 I had almost bought a 48 I saw offered for sale before, but it fell through, in the end going to the West Somerset Railway. So years later I decided to create a list working where all the remaining 48's were situated. Sir William got in contact and mentioned his was for sale, and the rest as they say is history! Railway stuff is hard to value, I'd have said a million was wayyy off though
@@lmm i think that included the rails, plates and spikes. scrap steel was high at the time, around 300/ton. keeping it up and running was expensive. he eventually went bankrupt, and someone from out west bought the entire set up, and took it out there, right down to the wooden ties. he brought a crew with him, and they worked all summer pulling it all out.
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels good point, however I do believe that a BR standard locomotive (the small one which is at seven valley railway) is in your price range
Look East actually did a good job, nice little bit talking to me and looking at my Loco with a chap from the BBC. ITV however, forgot I'm the owner, and also decided it was a steam engine. I received a few messages from my railway friends laughing about that!

So when are you going to buy your own locomotive hauler like that?
There are a couple of things I'd like to get 😂
@@lmm that includes a locomotive hauler, a heavy duty recovery truck and what else?
Oh lots of things! More old cars, a digger, the list is endless really.
At the rate he goes I Give it a month, lol.
At home point he'll probably buy a little steam engine and my steam-breathing self is going to get mega jealous!
One day I'll have a traction engine. One day 😂
Seemed fun to transport that train. On the plus side It did stay in one Peace
It was hard work! Yeah, I suppose that's all one can ask for - get there safe!
well done
Thank you, it was a great adventure
I know somewhere to take Little Rust (a name you could give her), how about the Bluebell Railway, its a small line, but it would be nice
I would love for her to visit the bluebell! Maybe one day. She's got a name, all being well it'll be revealed before too long!
You are one lucky guy to own a loco.
Thank you, I really do feel very privileged.
She's looking great, you've done a brilliant job on the paintwork Lozza.
Thank you - I'm so proud of it.
Though I must confess I had a friend of mine who's a painter in the heritage railway industry come and do the top coat
On the mainline. That would be serious.fun
It's so slow though! Sadly very unlikely to ever happen.
Imagine the chaos!
Lovely video! When I heard "GarrEtt" I thought of "GarrAtt", a famous name in antipodean locomotives. Not him, obviously.
I believe Garrett did export steam engines out there, but the Garratt's of articulated Loco fame are a different thing.
Brilliant I am going to check that out at the end of the month 😀
It's an interesting place
What a cracking video! Loved your face as the ramp bed went up the lorry... I am sure it wasn't pleasant! Have you had a go on Sirapite yet?
Thank you!
It was a rather strange experience, the movement is not what one expects on the footplate.
I have had one bash at Sirapite at the MSLR, though I've driven it several times as I'm a volunteer at the long shop too!
It's a bonkers thing. Great fun!
@@lmm - is Sirapite permanently in gear, or like a road traction engine can she be shifted into high/low gear?
It's basically permantly in gear. There should be a pin that comes out which should allow you to slide they drive gear out so it'll just sit there with the flywheel turning, but I've never seen it done.
Did you manage to get her up to full speed on there? ;)
Wow I want to own a Loco like that! You need to take it to America where it can see it brother and sister locomotives, the Plymouths diesel type engine...
I'd love to take it to America, you guys wouldn't be able to handle how tiny it is 😂
Might be a little cost prohibitative...
@@lmm Lol, you would just need to resale the wheels, thats all!
We're the same guage, least for the standard network.
@@lmm 4 feet, 8.5 inches?
@@TheBestTrainsAreReal remember lots of our locos ran in America. Including flying Scotsman
Lots of photos where taken 😂
I have no idea what it cost - the railway paid to have the Ruston visit!
@@lmm It must be nice when the hauliers are interested and enjoying their work.
Come on bud, it's not like you got a 9f on that trailer! You might have a few more rubber-neckers if you did. (Qudos to the kid though.)
It was sitting a bit higher on the lorry than a 9f would 😂
Becides no diesel locomotive has been transported along those roads in well, ever 😂
Seems to me your at about 5300 and change of subscribers. I only just found your channel 2 days ago.
We're completely blown away by the sudden growth!
They drive on the wrong side of the road. Hi from the USA
Na, we've got this sorted 😂
Nice engine, the engine should be hauled on goose neck trailer, lot's safer to haul, but I love Rusty little engine.
It wasn't me who organised the hire.
These guys hadn't moved a Loco before. It was quite an interesting experience.
@@lmm I bet it was intense. It made it to locate with no problem. Congratulation of rebuilding of Ruston, it looks fantastic I wish had one for myself.
Give them their credit, they did a fantastic job! It was a little stressful though 😂
@@lmm I gave them credit of doing a great job of delivery.
You own your very own locomotive? Cool, you must work for the railway.
I do indeed own my Loco, but I don't work for any railways.
Oh, well, I think you should.
Is the railway a straight line
As a Norfolklad I would have to disagree with the statement that Suffolk is a great country hahah
How much did the Ruston cost you?! @Lawrie’s Mechanical Marvels :)
Not as much as you'd think.
you know Lawrie i was re-watching this video and a stupid thought occurred to me.. apologies if this question is out of line but do you personally have insurance cover on the locomotive or is it covered by which ever railway it happens to be located on at any given point in time? if its you personally then my next question is this.. just how hard did you have to look to find vehicle insurance for a locomotive?
Probably not, didn't really answer anything there 😂
@@lmm that’s very helpful. Thanks
Do you know if this railway has gotten longer since this video?
It has
@@lmm that's good, looked on their website but couldn't work out how far they run
How would you move a full size diesel locomotive?
Same principle, just a larger lorry and trailer.
So there is only a 100 feet of track?
A little more, but yes. It's a start!
100 ft plus the amount in the car park were the steam engine used to be running on.
If you were to name the engine (if that’s a thing they do with diesels) what would you name it
Edit: just realized you already named it
She was already named when I got her, I just rededicated it
i finally found your loco's holiday vid. so, it's a working holiday then. but, since it spends most of it's time now lounging about like a cat in the sun, for your ruston this would be a holiday. i've been wondering, how is it that someone who isn't independently wealthy actually come to own a locomotive? your other toys i can understand. i could have bought a fire truck from the 50's for $3500 usd a few years back, but had nowhere to put it at the time. but a locomotive, owned by a lord? i would think that would be a pricey bit o' kit.
The UA-cam is an added bit on the side too 😂
I had almost bought a 48 I saw offered for sale before, but it fell through, in the end going to the West Somerset Railway.
As long as someone bought it I guess and enjoys it. Alot of dollar to find though!
How much does it cost to hire a transporter with crane/winch for a return job like this?
I've not got a clue. The hirers paid for transport.
Moving it to the MSLR was a couple of grand though.
His dad shouod have bought him that train set for christmas...
You have no idea how much model railway stuff I have 😂
what year was the train made
My Loco was built in 1951
I live in sudbury
Ah that's out part of the world!
Please do Lawries goes loco on your loco
It will be coming up soon!
hello but your Ruston locomotive in what year was built ?
She was new in 1951.
I've hit top gear, and I'm just getting better and better, honest‼️😜😜😜
It seems that way!
@@lmm Well, that's one vote of confidence. All I need to do now is persuade the rest of humanity. It shouldn't take long‼️🤨🤨🤨
Should be done by next week 😂
@@lmm It'll probably be next Friday, because I don't work weekends‼️😝😝😝
Which is one of your key traits, knowing how important a rest is!
He was on gv yo
You should buy a full size loco
But I have!
I meant a main line compatable, like a A3 Pacific,
I'd love to, but we're talking mental abouts of money
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels good point, however I do believe that a BR standard locomotive (the small one which is at seven valley railway) is in your price range
@@electrohalo8798 i dont think that heritage line is willing to sell it to one of there volunteers.
Where is the leiston works railway located
It's in the Town of Leiston, Suffolk, England. The trackbed they're relaying is just opposite the Long Shop Museum.
Its in the name.
Bloody typical of 'Look East' - ' Lawrie Rose - Driver'? Never mind 'Owner/Driver'! Amateurs. Really ;0)
Look East actually did a good job, nice little bit talking to me and looking at my Loco with a chap from the BBC.
ITV however, forgot I'm the owner, and also decided it was a steam engine.
I received a few messages from my railway friends laughing about that!
They clearly do not understand what a steam and diesel locomotive looks like. Some one needs to tell them that.
I was a little disappointed, I told the guy filming all the info on it. Oh well.
So, Clovis, you've had fun showing off your "stuff", have you⁉️ Tell me, when does your court case come up, because I want to be a character witness⁉️ You should get five years, minimum‼️🤣🤣🤣
