- This is my review of the Big 5 (and Sweden)'s second rehearsal for Eurovision 2024: We have Marcus and Martinus for Sweden, Slimane for France, Isaak for Germany, Olly Alexander for the UK, Angelina Mango for Italy and Nebulossa for Spain!

Totally agree on the costume. This is much more elegant. My country finally has a STAGE!😂 Angelina and her team have embraced the Eurovision contest style seriously. Hope for the best!❤
i have no idea if it was intentional but i'm obsessed with how semi 1's running order is Bambie Thug then Olly's very, very gay staging then a song about religious/biblical figures.

I actually loved the outfit Angelina had on before and I felt sad when they changed it but if it didn't work for them it's okay, she still looks stunning and elegant, totally agree with you about winner vibes.
I think they will use both. One at the semifinal and the black one at the final.
really hope angelina wears this outfit it's a lot better than the other one, i think the staging looks gorgeous!!
with olly i think it'll definitely be divisive as it is a lot but i think eurovision fans will go for a risque act (chanel wasn't wearing very much lol i know it's different for men and women but still) i was worried about staging/a good position as the song is definitely medium but i think it looks very expensive, professional brit awards/music video vibes

Best staging on my oinion gos to UK but Italy is the winner for sure ,: Quality
I actually like very much Germany's entry, largely because of Issak's voice, but also because of his personality and integrity both in his performance and statements. It's all very down to earth. No Gimmicks.
Any ideas about the reference to controversial comments? What was that about??
@@Michalis2m it's not in his eords, cause I couldn't find it right now, but he said that all ebu Countries should be included, no boycott.
Now I like Italy's staging and it's very elegant. Well done. UK it's a big no from me, I didn't like the video and now they are replicating the idea on the stage. Hope Germany will get a few points despite that weird staging. Sweden looks impressive and their staging has been perfect since their first performance at national final. Slimane is looking good and classy and the staging will make his beautiful voice shine.

It would be interesting to count how many times have you used the phrase "(it's a bit) too much" in your recent videos, describing someone's staging 😂. Seriously though, imo there's a tendency indeed to rather overdo things and force them too much. Sometimes less is more, I'm pretty sure about that. This year it's the first time when I'm thinking that some Eurovision performances need a warning that they may trigger seizures in case of certain medical conditions.
So it's not just me that finds Rylan's teeth unnaturally white 😅

@@Mycenaea The thing with fake teeth is that you can have them made to look natural. I don't know anyone in real life with fake teeth that look scary.
Dizzy is in my top 5. I find the staging very sexy and I personally love it. But that said I don't think the staging is suitable for the ESC stage. It's just too literal.
7:25 You shouldn't knock yourself. You've got good taste, and your takes aren't wild. The UK entry has gotten daring, and you've explained very well the danger in such a staging 👍

Italy is a clear winner for me from the start and this staging just confirms it!

I think the problem with Germany is that he does not emote well so the fire looks somewhat incongruous with him just standing there. I think Slimane would being in that burnining room would totally work for instance. Fire needs to go with either emoted devastation (France, last scene of Netherlands) or great energy (Georgia). It’s kinda wasted on a casual performance.
UK is a big no for me too.
Much as I like Baby Lasagna who is a genuinely likeable guy with a good, catchy song, I am still convinced that Italy deserves to win. That said, I would still be happy of a second place behind Croatia. Smaller countries need proof that, if they bring the right song, they can win.
Agreed. I also love BL but I wouldn't mind at all if Angelina won. She also deserves it.

Isaak has a staging that is made to interact with (it actually are climbable) but instead he standing still in the center of a firestorm. Which is ironic for a song called always on the run

I was trusting Italy regarding the backing dancers. I was sure they would just use them as a means to elevate Angelina but not overwhelm her on stage. This could not be a Backstreet Boys choreography. Very well done.
And for the UK, what has put me off the most is the fact that there are too many prerecorded vocals and he does not have the microphone in front of his mouth. Too much focus on the show rather than giving a real singing performance. Just compare that with Chanel...
there's pre recorded vocals but also a backing singer. Just like many other acts this year so why hate on the UK?

I prefer this camera angle for the a cappella version of Slimane, it plunges us directly into the emotion that sang it with this close-up focused on him
I am a big fan of Olly’s and feel it’s a bit much. The first rehearsal looked amazing. There is supposed to be a reworking of this bit so the audio we hear in the clip may not be the one on the night. Perhaps the bbc put the clip out to get everyone talking and to test the waters. Not sure why you would release a clip with bad vocals and something so polarising otherwise. I am sure it will be very slick and the vocals will be on point on the night.He is after all very experienced and there are some big names attached to this not just his. Guess nobody can say it’s boring anymore because it’s certainly will be memorable.
Ngl that I almost cried while watching Angelina 2nd rehearsal clip, she had been in my first place since she won Sanremo and for the whole time managed to survive there, atp if she doesn't win then no one does
The spoken word in Olly's performance is live, there's a backing vocalist. The 30 second of the UK is the climatic chaotic part. It's meant to be that way. If anyone has seen Olly and Theo Adams past work this is what they do. Better to be bold than boring. If we had a spinning platform that's what you'd say 'boring and predictable'

I agree on Italy winner this year. The song resembles Mediterranean music sound and it is already a huge hit in many countries. Also, the stage perfectly fits the song.

What did Isaak say?
From the clips, France looks most impressive imo. Italy looks much better in the classier styling. Sweden just looks amazing. Germany and Spain looks a bit lifeless to me and the UK is overdoing it with the poses and the facial choreo. I still love the staging, if they keep it a bit more stylish and less dirty/chaotic it might look better
Dizzy was poorly received across the Fandom from the start and we were never getting anywhere with it anyway so we may as well go out with a bang, literally! But if it's upsetting people, which clearly it is, and spoiling what was some really great staging then sadly yes, it was a step too far. I just wish people would complain to the BBC if they're that upset and not keep posting their outrage on social media. Did Olly choose that clip on purpose to see what the reaction is? Personally I have no issue with it at all and the still photos show there's more to the staging than this so I'll only judge when I see it in full. 🇬🇧 everything else all looks great, I'm never one to nit pick every detail anyway. My only other thoughts are that Slimane stepping back from the mic is perhaps a bit too show off and makes it sound like he's singing inside a tin can, he's impressive enough and it's not needed. Greetings from the UK, personally I will be glad when this year is over, so much controversy and unpleasant fan behaviour has put a big cloud over it for me. I don't care who wins or if UK comes last.
Angelina truly impressed me once again and now has a great outfit for the stage. Looks amazing.
On the other end of the spectrum, call me a prude as well but Olly’s performance in this clip is very vulgar and have no idea why the ebu would allow it. I’ve started watching Eurovision with my mom from last year, and I could definitely not watch this with her
I think the spoken part in Dizzy is the live backing singer, and Olly joins in a bit.
I really wanted Germany to take the concept to the max...because on paper this has great potential but it's like they're scared or unsure how to fully execute it..they should take a leaf out of the UK's playbook this year and just go all the way...so to speak 😊 I would put him in an outfit that looks slightly fire damaged..still comfy because he isn't the most fashion forward type but just a bit more chic for the big stage. And a bit more movement, make it seem that he is trapped in the flames and trying to find a way out. I don't know..
The juries can't overlook the vocals and the song is decent enough so I do hope it does better than expected..good luck neighbours ❤

I don't think either of Angelina's two costumes fit in the rest of the staging, which is amazing. It's not that the outfits aren't awesome because they are, but I think that lighter attire (maybe with a good dose of yellow) would offer a better contrast and would more impactful.
i really like Slimanes accapella but i feel like they should have kept it hidden for the semis and especially should not have shown it in the clip

Italy: Yes...the 2nd rehearsal from Italy much better than the 1st - I bet the polytail braids seen at Sanremo are coming next - that would be even better and the camera should close up on her to capture her best nuances' moments - that would be perfect.
Olly's having a gay orgy - it's not going to be ignored for sure.
Germany? No matter how much pyro around the stage - that guy looks alone and forgotten....as his "stage presence". A cardboard's silouette would work better than the guy (nil points candidate).
Spain: it doesn't really matter what they do with the stage - It's not I can't stand it...I just ask to myself, why? The song is just so unsubstantial and weak in every aspect and after listening to the alternatives available from Spain I've concluded the jury and the public was drunk and decided to send Nebulossa as a joke (ok).
Sweden: plasticky and polished - good visuals but the music seems produced via AI and programmed to get enough point to restore some dignity without necessarily winning (yawnnn).
France - I'm slow on ballads...but I started to like this song after listening to Luna's version! (ooops). That mic stunt is too macho and looks silly. Slimane can actually be the darkhorse and prove a poor staging is completely pointless.
Dunno, but I have a sense of deja-vu with France, Italy and Switzerland: that was the year of Voila (classic ballad), Zitti e Buoni (definitely not the same Italian ballad) and that Swiss guy with the best vocals of the lot (Slimane has power but the range and vocal agility from Nemo are unreal)....yes, seen it before - and it was a very nailbiting experience.
Your words about the Spanish song have made me smile. I understand your point of view but, believe me, we were not drunk when we voted for Zorra and Nebulossa.
It's just like a little family joke, in which you know and love the characters and their way of speaking makes you laugh, but when it leaves that familiar environment, loses the fun and no one understands it... But it's still very funny to us.
And there was nothing to send to Eurovision this year with a chance of winning IMO.
@@mtjapsp Some Spanish youtuber "accuse" Italians of not voting for Spanish entries sometimes...if Spain send Nebulossa and similar jokes Italians don't vote for Spain just because the 2 countries have similar language and culture. A bit of effort is required - Rosalia for example...why Spain has never selected her? She isn't bothered? Italy send the best they have to offer...
@@stefanogortaldi3156 It's hard to explain, but I think there are several reasons.
One of them is that Spanish artists project their international careers in Latin America, not in Europe. For many years there have been no established singers who want to go to Eurovision. If they already have international success in America, why would they want to go to a contest where there is no money to be won and, if your song isn't appreciated, you can lose your prestige?
You have San Remo, one of the most established and appreciated festivals in the world. We have only been with the Benidorm Fest for 3 years. Maybe in the next few years it will become big and the best artists will want to participate in it, but for now, I don't see it as possible.
Rosalía?... It would be a dream. For RTVE and for all of us!
When I saw the pictures of Isaaks staging at first I was a bit hopeful as I think the concept is quite fitting. Everything is on fire around him which might represent bad things or things Isaak really should take care of but he can't cause he's "always on the run." Sadly that's also where it ends as a concept alone is not enough if you don't know what to do with it. Isaak seems lost in there and has no stage presence. There is no energy on stage.
What we see instead are big shots of the entire stage which make it all the more obvious how lost Isaak looks in them. It's almost like the delegation wanted to show us that they can stage things but then leave it at the bare minimum. Like yes, it looks expensive but it would look all the more interesting if Isaak would know what to do with it. Interact more with it, engage with with if the flames are representing the things Isaak runs away from. The impact is just not there.
But then again, maybe that's just a one off. Maybe Isaak is saving all his energy for the Semi and Grand Final so that can be in top condition when it really matters. I really hope that's the case cause if not he's in there for last place again. He already has barely any chance with the televote and I think if he doesn't bring the energy next week, the juries will also pick up on this and won't vote for him despite his great vocals
I really don't understand the hype for Italy. It'll definitely be top ten, probably top five, but it just doesn't have what's needed to win.
I agree with you on UK - it really does look a bit too much. And I have been the whole time defending Oli but I don’t think that a lot of people will feel good about this performance 😕

First time I watched Eurovision I was 7 (in 1978...) I'm not a stranger to gay sex, but UK seems to have forgotten that this is very much a family show. Too bad for the artist and his (quite good) song!
And not only UK, also some other countries seem to have forgotten it as well. Imho, couple of outfits are way too revealing this year. I don't think it's appropriate.

@@silencestation557 Well, if you don’t have a good song, that speaks for itself, then you try to elevate it - or maybe distract from it? - with effects like „sex sells“. But none of these countries will finish Top 10. And if you just look at the Big 5 and Sweden, Italy is the only one for me, that has a good song as well as a good staging.
I agree with you on the UK performance. It is too much for a family show. I also think you are too hard on yourself - u are an expert of sorts and we value your take and I appreciate your videos!
Few loose thoughts
1. After seeing the snippets of all stagings this year I can proudly say: Now I've seen everything (quoting a wise man).
2. About half of songs have a potential to get into the left side of the scoreboard...
3.... but also more than half of the songs can flop REALLY badly
4. There will be multiple discussions and arguments about this contest in all kinds of media. No doubt about it.
