- This is my review of the Big 5 (and Sweden)'s first rehearsal for Eurovision 2024: We have Marcus and Martinus for Sweden, Slimane for France, Isaak for Germany, Olly Alexander for the UK, Angelina Mango for Italy and Nebulossa for Spain!

Comments on Italy's staging in recent years: they don't really care, they leave the artist alone, stage feels empty, etc....
This year: it's messy, it's too much, Angelina looses spontaneity, would have been better off alone on stage...
Me: I love the backdrops, I love the props, I love the fashion, I love her voice, I love the concept, etc...
Looks like anything we do, is never good enough, we're always "overrated". Yet somehow we're always up there in the top 10, so... 🤷♀
@@BistraVoda87 it's the Eurofans mostly, a tiny minority of the actual viewers of the Grand Final. And juries usually recognize good music.

I'm a bit confused, every year Eurofans complain about Italy's staging because it isn't well-finished enough and now you complain because it's too well-finished and full of details?

I want to trust Angelina and her team. I think they are clever and the backing dancers will only elevate her and pit the focus on her. And in the short video she still dances freestyle at some point.
I am glad that Italy is trying that. They have been accused of having no staging at all, which is true if you think of Brividi or even Due vite which was relying just on Marco (of course he did well), there were two people jumping oj a trampoline in the background and that was never really focused by the camera. So this year they are trying something totally different, let us see!!!

The details in Italy are absolutely stunning, but I agree that I'm worried it might be too much at once.
Can be fantastic with the camera angles!
I hope that the background isn't too busy for too much of the performance.
I love watching her perform - how she carries herself.
She seems so strong, centred, captivating. She has owned every stage I've seen her on, she has a special x factor.
I hope this doesn't drown in a stage that is too busy, or choreography that disrupts her natural charm.
The UK certainly suprised me the most. I did not expect that at all. It is very explicitly homo erotic and gritty and it doesn't suit the song at all which is exactly why it works imo. I love this. Kudo's to Olly and The UK for finally doing something daring with their staging.
France is gorgeous. Love the white, voice is amazing. Possible jury winner for sure.

I get the concern of it losing the spontaneity, but Angelina still seems quite free on stage so hoping that will be fine. And most viewers won't have Sanremo as a reference so they will be impressed I think.
Sweden is Sweden. Their problem is never the staging.
Spain has elevated their staging, it is still kitschy fun but with a bigger budget 😊❤.
Germany I need to see the longer clip because the whole burning down the house concept seems cool. Want to see how far they'll take it. Vocals are amazing. This will def get some jury points and won't be last ❤
There's so much black, white, silver and red in the costumes this year, it's all kind of blending into one. Good for Joost I guess, he'll stand out 😂

My opinion on my beautiful Italy: Concept: I'm all in, 100% (even though I didn't expect that at all)! I think it can appeal with its mix of glamour, a bit of mystique/religious, and "medieval" vibes! I'm convinced that Mango's spontaneous side will come through at some point ;) Negative critique: I share your view on the cluttered aspect. However, I'm quite calm about it. It was only the first rehearsal, and I have complete confidence in the Italian delegation to come up with something magnificent (let's not forget that they're the same ones who delivered the fantastic staging for Måneskin...) !!!
I feel that the staging sucked in San remo and no it is a Eurovision staging that makes it feels like a contender to the win. Absoutely beutiful staging and for the first time not booring. No it suits Eurovision which it did not as much before.
I think Dan Shipton's done a cracking job for Germany's staging. Isaak's voice has been consistently amazing too. ❤️

Even though I'm not the demographic for UK's staging I respect their creativity.
Italy is a bit too messy/busy and I'm afraid all the girls in bodysuits and with choreography will begin to blur for "the locals" in front of their tv screens.
Even though 90% of people will see Slimanes accapella for the firdt time i really think he should have kept it secret until the semi finals.
Love those Germany graphics. We’ve already seen that Isaak’s voice, as great as it is, isn’t enough to get people excited. A good graphics package might be enough to give him a good result.
You’re definitely right about the excesses of male skin, which is never a bad thing at Eurovision. Angelina tips the balance a bit though - I’m fully gay, but damn those female dancers look sexy.

Italy has definitevly the best song but its a bit too baroque and heavy regarding visuals on my opinion. France is quite simple but the song needs that.
UK: Great staging, no notes.
Germany: Needed a lot more. And surely not black, this needed to stand out.
Sweden: Technically flawless. Not sure about the vocal tone myself and the song lacks “soul”. But impressive staging as expected.
France: I need less (distracting) hand gestures and he absolutely needs to pull back vocally. He is doing too much and it almost feels aggressive rather than heartfelt and genuine. Love the song though.
Spain: Was a little underwhelmed. Vocal still weak and fear it will be overshadowed but other tele vote friendly entries. Also not sure about the “cheeks”.
Italy: Beautiful costumes and background. And Angelina is doing Angelina. My only concern is that the costumes make it difficult to see the performers in some pictures
It's a massive change for Angelina...for purists it's probably a step backward - some spontaneity is missing or it's there but less noticeable because there's a lot going on.
I believe the choreo is trying to move La Noia away from the crowded upbeat bunch - (that black lipstick for example brings Angelina closer to Bambi than the rest of the girls) - this way La Noia sits on its own private area = more memorable than others.
Then...we only saw a few clips with very basic camera angles and poor sound quality - there's a massive room for improvement...we've seen nothing yet.

Ok, lookin at Germanies stage, now I know what other meant, that Latvia needs something more epic or crazy for their staging.
I'm a bit put off by the dancers for spain and UK, and the fire for Germany, but all these songs are good. Italy I'm not sure,, but if her live vocals are as before then it will be great. surprisingly I'll have to say that visually I like Sweden and France best. But Sweden's song is not my favourite. So I'll just say that I'm happy Slimane is doing a good show for France.

Italy without a doubt, I don't get all the negativity. The throne of spines look amazing and she hersef looks like a goddess. She still has the spontaneity imo in the solo parts. And I don't understand why people are hating on the dancers being there, for me it gives the vibe that the music video gives which I'm in love with.
France and UK.
Italy, Italy, Italy... I think this will all look great in the final result.
The Iron Throne... sorry, the Throne of Thrones has a lot of potential. But, like with the Irone Throne, if she gets pricked repeated, it means that the throne is rejecting her as a Eurovision winner

Slimane kept something simple and based essentially on his voice, so this can make a difference with all the other stagings
I’ve heard a lot of Markus & Martinus’ song on the radio and I notice how strongly autotuned and deeper their voices sound. I’m also rather amused to see the Spanish entry keeping the asscheek dudes. This is gonna be funny! 😂

Sweden is boring, the twins combination doesn’t say much to me, Isaac’s song is underrated but he’s cool and will do well. uk, cool staging but the song to me is weak, Spain has a strong concept and message, staging is fun and there’s a lot of irony and desire to have fun there, we knew that vocals are weak but all is forgiven ❤Italy, being Italian ….i can’t think straight, im not a fan of dancing on stage, I hope the dance act I not too confusing and distracting. GO Angelina ❤
I also feel conflicted about the German staging. It does not seem to fit the song. (I am German).
Honestly, i don’t get why everyone is freaking out about that 2 meters from the mic thing of Slimane.
I love the song but i don’t lile that part at all. That screaming feels so unnatural and too much, it does’t fit to a love song. But just my thougts, maybe i’m the odd one 🤷🏻♂️
I mean its more a break up song than a love song in a way and then it makes sense
Germanys staging isn’t doing anything for me. Italy is messy, disappointing, and I really struggle to see Angelina. The uk is stand out and such a technical marvel though, wow!
France straightforward frenching - VERY possible jury winner imo
I feel like the UK went just a little too far with the choreo. The staging is super cool and visually stunning, but from the short clip I saw the choreo is borderline pornographic. I don't mind sexy (same or both gender), but if it gets too much it get offputting instead. See Slovenia a couple of years back...
The six of them have a staging that is at least interesting.
My least favourite is, as always, Sweden. Professionalism to fill a lake, but boredom through the roof, the two twins looking like ken dolls.
