    Dang! When I first saw this I was so excited you’re having one of my most trusted medical professionals on! I read his first books. But then during the interview I noticed he has very different ideas about longevity and skin, spf, and menopause than most of us in the skincare community. What gives?! Is he only an expert within his own field and we should take his age related stuff with a grain of salt? Or should we I now question everything. I hate it when educated professional opinions don’t align because no one has time to deep dive every single issue… sigh

    This is not in any way judgemental about those who take HRT. I had an easy menopause, was never offered it so I can't speak from the perspective of suffering the way some women do with menopausal symptoms. However I was always concerned about the over stimulation of oestrogen. Maybe the body knows what it's doing by slowing down the production after a certain number of years to avoid triggering cancer cells. There has been an undeniable increase in oestrogen cancers, breast, ovarian etc since the introduction of HRT. Is that coincidental? I don't know. But i feel if you don't need it for horrific symptoms but basically taking it for vanity reasons, i would beware. It literally had zero effect on my skin when my levels dropped. I've been without it for 20 years and I'm OK 😊

    • @helena_5456
      @helena_5456 10 днів тому +1

      Yes, he just said he's not against it but worried about the potential risk. And want women to be aware of it. I think that's very reasonable.

    • @claudiaglows
      @claudiaglows  10 днів тому +3

      You are very lucky to have had no symptoms. Some women suffer terribly, to the point where live seems to not be worth living any more.
      Regarding the rise in cancer you mentioned. I think there could be many reasons for it. We live longer and have better screening. We are also bombarded by toxins and xenohormones.
      There are some cancer experts who have seen less recurrence of cancer in patients who are on HRT. Dr Mathis mentions his colleague, a breast cancer oncologist, frequently. She has had a longterm ongoing study with her patients and has witnessed the above.
      That being said, we all need to inform ourselves and do what is right for us.
      I am really happy for you to have sailed through it so easily and not have had any noticeable effect

    His eating less protein comment is absolutely absurd. Minimum 1.5 grams per lb up to 2 or more grams. He states that some studies show that this decrease in protein intake is beneficial. First off these studies he refers to are mostly observational which have to many confounding factors to prove anything. Also he doesnt distinguish between crude vs true protein which is also super important. Just cause hes a doc doesnt mean hes right. Use your own common sense and look it up for yourself.

    • @claudiaglows
      @claudiaglows  12 днів тому

      Well, I don’t agree with everything he says either, they definitely some experts. Now that say that less protein can slow down some of the pathways of aging. And as he said, it’s not so much the protein, but certain amino acids, such as methionine.

    Long time watcher of your videos and first time commenting. Whilst I appreciate that everyone must do their own research, there were a few concerning stances he’s taken during the interview (I’m still watching), with the most potentially dangerous one being salt. Those of us with conditions like POTS MUST increase our salt intake and I hope anyone watching who is thinking of reducing/eliminating salt from their diet checks with their own health professionals before making any dietary changes.

      I totally agree with you. Most doctors know nothing about nutrition and the correlation with health. The vast amount of people who have been helped by a carnivore diet is testament to the fact that protein from animal sources is superior to any other protein and lots of it together with animal fat is optimal.

    I kinda wish you had pressed him for more information about why he’s not a fan of post menopausal hormone replacement therapy. He just kind of pushed past your questions and suggested that we buy his book. Claudia, you’ve have some great experts on podcast regarding their pro-hormone replacement opinions and I didn’t feel like his answer was sufficient here. To be honest, he seemed to me to have a bit of a cavalier attitude when answering some of your questions. His tone sounds really condescending at times. And I looked up his age: 52. I will say I think he looks older and especially when looking at Claudia who is positively gorgeous and glowing…..it’s quite a stark contrast.

And well, I really appreciate this time and knowledge, they are definitely things. I don’t agree with. I still do think that hormone replacement therapy can be a blessing for so many women, and that we have plenty of studies showing now that the benefits outweigh the negative. But I do think it is important to listen to different experts, and then as I said to our own research and make up our mind

HRT can make life so much better for many women. But it's not without risk, especially if it's synthetic rather than bio-identical.

      It is super frustrating that experts do not agree on so many of these subjects. Dr Greger def. does his research, but even with that, it seems we can find so much contradicting research, esp when it comes to HRT. Personally I do not agree with his stands on HRT, but I think it is important to listen to different experts and then do our own research and find what works for us

    Hello Claudia, you never fail to amaze me… Dr Greger!! Now that’s a big achievement. This is probably my favourite video of yours to date and I took away so much from it, so thank you very much!
    I just wanted clarification on the protein aspect of this video. Now, Dr Gregor mentioned the protein calculation being 0.8 x per kg of body weight - I weigh about 45kg and do resistance training twice a week. Am I correct in thinking my protein goal should be 36g according to that calculation? I have been eating meat and roughly hitting 55-60g of protein a day but I think this is too much for me! (Also, I don’t enjoy eating animal meat everyday either) - so would I be able to reduce my protein to 36-40g and still hit my gym goals of being stronger in myself? I’m just not entirely sure if I heard correctly in the video! Thank you 😊

      Hi Alisha, I am glad you enjoyed this. Yes, that is what he is suggesting. Or, to cut down on animal protein and replace some of it with plant so we cut down on Methionine.

    Thank you Claudia, for another informative and entertaining video 🙏🏻. I really like how you incorporate such a variety of topics on your channel.
    While a I agree with a lot of what Dr.Greger says, I believe supplementation in this day and age is necessary. There are many sources of natural supplements available to us. Since the 50’s, at least in this country (and I’ve no doubt in many others), our soils have been polluted and continue to be with pesticides. Hence, our fruits and vegetables do not have the same amount and quality of vitamins and minerals our bodies require.
    Mineral depletion can be a cause of disease.
    If done naturally, I don’t see any problem in taking supplements. And definitely keeping-up with our electrolyte drinks 😋!! I have heard from a lot of experts in nutrition, the intake of electrolytes is highly beneficial for our bodies.
    As you rightly point-out, it is good for everyone to do their own research in order to ascertain what works best. Researching is key 🔑
    Keep being such a positive influence for us all Claudia 💗😍🎉

    Hey Claudia, I hooe you are very well, you certainly look very well !
    I love Dr Greger, he is definitely an OG in the Plant Based movement and I 100% agree with him about whole foods plant based being the way to go....
    Like most plant based doctors however, I find him to be lacking in the hormonal replacement aspect - most of them are men, so have no first hand exoerience of the sharp decline that comes to women with age... I also find that those who are women also tend to go with the "natural is best" idea which permeates the plant based space... ( an idea which has much merit but needs thoughtful balancing in my opinion with all that technology, thankfully, has to offer... ) Yes, I agree with you, there is no substitute for doing your own research...
    You and Dr Matthis ( and also TS Wiley! ) saved my life in regards to the issue of hormones and I often share your videos on this subject with others.
    I also don't agree on those low protein levels he recommends... I personally get around 2.5g per kilo of bodyweight and it's helped me tremendously to put on and keep building muscle... 100% plant based though... ( no studies have been done to my knowledge on 100% plant based protein intake... ) I am in agreement that it is good to keep animal protein to an absolute minimum and that makes sense... but plant protein? No....
    My whole body composition changed for the better and I certainly would not be able to train 3 hours a day without it.... So I know from personal experience that what he is saying is not so.... I wouldn't care if hundreds of studies came out saying otherwise... When you know you know...
    Also on the salt... I think he goes unnecessarily far in reducing it... Sure, you don't want a high sodium diet.... But neither is a really really low sodium.diet a good idea... an 5:39 d I find that I do need some added sodium, especially in the summer when I sweat a lot/more...
    Love to you, thanks for another great episode.... ❤

      There was actually just a new study published, looking at different forms of protein. In a nutshell it did show that higher intake can be beneficial, but that when some animal protein was replaced with plant, age related disease risk went down significantly.
      Thank you for being here and for your kind comment

For example, I do believe that Dr Greger is spot on with the plant based diet... So many of the BHRT promoters don't get this part right at all in my opinion... in fact they usually advocate for high animal product consumprion in my experience... and I feel this causes them all sorts of problems... so it's best to try and learn and experiment and watch and listen to all sorts of people... Refreshing to see someone actually address the not-so-impressive evidence based behind hormone therapy (estrogen + progesterone) as opposed to HrT (estrogen-only).
    At this point, women are being shamed for not going on it, as if they are cheating their long-term health outcomes. That's just not reasonable based on what we know now.
    Thanks for platforming his voice.
    That said, per his voice... a kind of strange cadence to his speech pattern imo.

    Claudia I want to do what you do because our eyes don’t lie. You have a very muscular build with very little fat. Dr Gregor looks petite and scrawny. This is not healthy looking to me. I’ve listened to him before on other podcasts and believe he is a pompous know it all who talks down to his audience. Thanks for your personal lifestyle videos. These are the suggestions I will follow.
