      That is some backwards ass party composition, a Bard can be a very effective healer, even better than a Druid with the right spell choices, and why the hell wouldn't the Druid be the "tank" since they have wild shape and spells like barkskin and stoneskin to make them even tougher.

    3:02:52 To beat a tarrasque with level 1 characters, you need only 1. You have to assume *some* luck, but not an incredible amount of luck. We're talking "minimum". If we're talking average, take the same setup anywhere from 10-100 depending.
    tldr: Aarocokra, fly up, sacred flame, create / destroy water to drink when you get tired after a few hours to prevent exhaustion. Warding flare light cleric gets you past AoO, if necessary.
    Aarocokra Cleric. Take Sacred Flame as a cantrip. Light Domain. Divine sorcerer works too and getting expeditious retreat turn 1 would be great, but it's unnecessary. The rest largely isn't going to matter. Spec for dex + con, and only minimum wis. If you want a faster bout with more risk, take less dex and more wis. Overall best would be Dex + Wis and just leaning into the luck - wis is important because there is a time element later.
    Assuming you win initiative it makes this easier, which is doable since you have so much dex. lets assume you do for brevity.
    Let's assume you start 30 feet away from the tarrasque.
    Aarocokra have a 50 foot flying speed. Dash away immediately - tarrasque's are dumb, but it will likely dash for 80 feet, then legendary action another 20 feet. You're back where you're started. Continue to dash. If it does anything else but dash after you, you've gained crucial ground. After 5-6 turns, it will likely do something dumb (like try to throw a rock at you). If it does, great, it makes the hard part easier. If there are any terrain features, they won't slow you, only it.
    But let's assume your DM sucks, and you're screwed. Change tact - dash straight up.
    Tarrasque's are about 50 feet high. In 1 turn you'll be out of range. Use your Warding Flares to put disadvantage on any opportunity attacsk, but assumedly, you still have that 30 foot buffer. If he bites you, it's potentially over since that grapple is bad news.
    Then just sacred flame it to death. This will take.... hours in-game. You average damage is 4, statistically your average hit (with disadvantage counted) is rolling a 17 on the die (disadvantage counts as -6, and on ties it wins its saving throw). Every minute you get 10 turns, every 2 minutes 20, so you will hit, on average 3 times every 2 minutes. That's 12 damage every 2 minutes. At 676 hp average, it will take you, on average, 2 hours of this craziness. With luck against you, almost 4. That's a lot of flying and casting. This is why you need create and destroy water and resistance.
    It has no bonus on dex saves and though it gets advantage on its save, that's 1d8. You hover over it and pepper it to death. Acid splash works too. Your aarocokra may grow tired and exhausted, but fight it out. Dump anything you don't need, you're a naked bird with an arcane focus. If you take a rest, it takes a rest, so you need some luck here. Taking resistance and taking a breather will help you (assuming you stop to resistance every minute or so). You get faerie fire as light domain, so it may be useful. Create or Destroy water'll get you a drink, this one is a necessity
    To defend, use your warding flares. Your +4 dex is giving you a not so sexy 14 AC, which means he can destroy you. Warding flare gives crit fail's a 10% chance due to disadvantage, so this is where you need a lot of luck.
    So, how much luck do you need?
    Initiative win? If you win initiative you can immediately dash out of range. That's not too much luck considering you already have better initiative than it does, it's better than a coin toss.
    Assuming now, if you start within 5 feet of it and lose initiative, you're gonne need a lot more, but still feasible.
    6 attacks (1 attack of opportunity). You need to survive 2 bites (it will chomp for its legendary action), a tail attack, then 3 generic attacks.
    You have to warding flair the bites or the tail - its legendary attack it may not optimize, so warding flare the first one. You might survive a single solitary hit, and by that I mean *might* but you won't survive losing to a bite and being grappled. So all in all, you basically need to survive 5 attacks, all rolling +19 against you. It only needs to roll a 5 or better to hit you, so your odds are not looking good, but I've seen lucky runs go further than 4 rolls and surviving 1 nasty hit.
    But if you start within 5 feet and win initiative, you only need to survive the 1 opportunity attack, which will be Chomp. Use your warding flair and y'know, that's not too much luck. You fail though, it's probably over.
    Hazards: Technically a tarrasque can jump only 7 feet if it takes 10 movement to get a running start, but DM's may rule otherwise. Claw has +20 reach. Subsequently you must never end your turn less than 28 feet above the target, keeping in mind that nearby terrain can cause problems. Its tail attack can knock you prone, which in it of itself will probably kill you from the fall. Figure out its jumping height, then +20 feet.
    DM's may rule it can jump higher - in this case, just bait it into jumping fruitlessly and stay 50 feet above it. Use 25 going down, sacred flame, go back up 25, end turn.
    If it starts throwing rocks, or getting to an area where they are, you have to bait out the throw's. Go high, real high, until it runs out of rocks or stamina. Throwing is work. Take it easy, glide around, use your warding flares. Also take a dodge action, flavored as a glide. It can't lead you, and if it's throwing straight up, it likely will have terrible aim. You can typically lead it away, because it's NOT smart, so.... take these times to breathe will be important.
    Be aware it gets double damage to structures, so anything can be thrown. Trees. Castles. Dirt. If you fly and stay directly above it, it will have a much harder time throwing and you'll have an easier time hitting it. But it's a tarrasque, a DM might rule it can't even manage a decent throw, and taking dodge actions greatly helps your survivability, and you will have some warding flares to help again, should you misplay.
    Then just light it up.

    • @wickederebus
      @wickederebus 3 роки тому +2

      wait, how does Sacred Flame work when the Tarrasque has
      "Reflective Carapace. Any time the tarrasque is targeted by a magic missile spell, a line spell, or a spell that requires a ranged attack roll, roll a d6. On a 1 to 5, the tarrasque is unaffected. On a 6, the tarrasque is unaffected, and the effect is reflected back at the caster as though it originated from the tarrasque, turning the caster into the target."
      so wouldn't it just not take damage?

    • @BillytheCorgi
      @BillytheCorgi 3 роки тому +3

      @@wickederebus Sacred flame is not magic missile, it's not a line spell (ie. Lightning bolt), and it doesn't require a ranged attack roll (ie. firebolt) it requires the target to make a save. As a cantrip, if the target does save, which the tarrasque has advantage on, then yes it takes no damage, but, if it fails, it will indeed take that damage.

      The party I'm running for has 6 casters (one is a paladin/barbarian ), and they are nigh immortal. Consider tho, they can all heal (2 aasimar, one cleric, one warlock-celestial/druid, one bard, paladin). They are murder machines, they are experts at winning the fights with 6/6 people at 9 or less hp.
      They can massacre anything without AoEs without problems, and stuff with AoEs with just a bit of coordination on the pick-me-up heals.

      @@sovelisholimion2680 "6 casters (one is a paladin/barbarian )" . . . WTF that isn't a caster that is a behemoth of a class combo and sounds like tank if ever there was one, Paladins are probably one of the hardest hitting martial classes and barbarians can take an obscene amount of punishment, you can't cast spells while raging but you can rage smite.
      The reason your party is fucking shit up without AoE's is because while Paladins can cast spells they are warriors (usually heavily armored warriors) at their core, throw Barbarian on top of that and you have 1 tough mofo
      I am going to guess your Paladin/Barbarian likes to hit things a lot and uses divine smite slot.

    A Tarrasque has 676hp, AC25, a reflective carapace and magic resistance (making 99% of spells useless) +19 to hit, 5 attacks, legendary actions and resistances etc, etc..., your best bet is physical damage from magical weapons, which you are unlikely to have at level 1, they have Blindsight out to 120 feet so hiding is out of the question, taking into account a Tarasque can not miss a level 1 character (+19 to hit remember) and you need to keep damaging it while it goes on genocidal rampage, and the longer the fight the less your damage will be . . . . I say a whole huge god damned army (all archers hopefully) . . . . 10,000-20,000 strong maybe more.

      Since it was abandoned, had giant snakes living in it (probably pooping in the water too), and it was surrounded by rabid (probably) giant weasels, giant centipedes, spiders etc... That water was likely stagnant as well, nobody was ever going to drink that so the fire was fine.
      now a clean regularly used well, fire would be bad.

    • @evannibbe9375
      @evannibbe9375 4 роки тому +1

      A well is often surrounded by stones, and if you are using firebolt (I haven’t watched the video) even a clean well could be cleaned more by water.

    I'll be running Ghosts of Saltmarsh here shortly too so it was awesome seeing how you executed the adventure/session, definitely taking inspiration. I saw the videos about your recent reviews and decided I'll be leaning into other aspects and homebrewing alterations for it to improve the experience, which you said can be disappointing. Out of curiosity though does your version of the module mention The Scarlet Brotherhood and that plotline? You don't seem to be including it in your running of the module (albeit I am skimming the video) and was wondering if it was included in the copy you're using.
