Yeah I am running this for my group now and let's just say at the end of session 2 they didn't go to the zentarim hideout yet. They spent most of the second session interrogating random people in the Skewered Dragon with intelligent questions like :where are you from? I am from here why? Master I roll to see if he is lying... All because I hate directing PCs towards the goal, I keep telling me they will ask a sensible question, but to no avail. One of the P. C.s tried to rob the barman though. No, he is not a rogue, he just thinks he is one. After one hour of this inanity they decided nothing was worth knowing in the tavern, they went . So I thought :"let's give them a hand". I had one of the locals go out after them and whisper all hush hush :" I want no trouble, see, but if you need to know, the men that went after your friend.. I've seen them already, they tend to stick to Candle Lane, see?" The pcs thought about it a bit, then one of them said :"this is clearly a trap". So they went to look for Neverember at his mansion instead...
I had been wondering how this crew got through so many adventures so quickly for quite a while. After watching this, now I know: Your sessions move *FAST*. I think this chapter took my players like 3 sessions, and we played once every other weekend!

I love this play-through of the module! You guys have such awesome energy! I also like Jacob's really interesting takes on all the NPC's. @3:02:00 you can absolutely make a Medicine check to stabilize a party member without a Healer's Kit. If you also have a Healer's Kit you can Stabilize without making the Medicine check. If you have Healer Feat you can Heal them instead of stabilizing them.

I know this happened awhile ago but I can already tell that having a party consisting of only people with d8 and d6 hit dies won't end well. I know, because I DM'd for a group of only Changelings that consisted of a Monk, 2 Rogues, and a Sorcerer.
Nonsense. D6 and d8 are fine. D10 is LITERALLY an average of ONE hp more per level, d12, TWO. 🙄 Anyone with half decent tactics and optimization can wax the floor with enemies.
@@gethriel The gap between d8 and d10 is 1 hp, but without some very specific subclasses for the d6's and some significant investment monetarily or build wise by the d8's their armor class is most likely not going to be very good, at least not compared to the classes that have a hit die that actually means something, because it's not the raw amount of health alone that makes d6 and d8 classes more squishy it's the consistently lower AC. It isn't nonsense it is a fact that the Caster classes were all given lower hit die and few armor proficiencies, and a proper party composition in literally any game ever will have a Tank and trying to go full party DPS is a fools errand. You might be able to wax the floor with small enemies, small fry that those casters and Monk/Rogue can take out immediately, but the moment you come up to something that takes that hit and keeps on coming you will see the error of your ways as the entire party then dies to an AOE (except the Rogue because they have multiple damage mitigation abilities that make them good at survivability)

Easy Roller Dice are simply the best polymers. My DM kit consists of almost 95% that brand, the rest from a handful of my newb sets as well as 4 sets of DCC funky sizes LOL
Great video! About to run this for the first time myself. SO cool to see how you put everything together and the way the PC’s interpreted everything. *excellent* resource for a new DM.
My group just started this campaign last night and the best part was our 8 foot tall Goliath bard, who stood at the base of a black dragon in the previous session dodging and weaving its claws, rolls a nat one as the first roll of the campaign and proceeds to get knocked on his butt by an elbow to the face from Yagra. Besides the hilarity it actually provided a really good rp moment for my silver tongued rogue to convince the men that they couldn’t win that fight
I like your dm'ing, it's not that all elaborate, descriptive, and official, but it's very flexible and interactive (I have a feeling that it's also often improvisational). You also feel chilled and confident and having fun, probably because of playing in a circle of friends. That all reminds me of my style, except I am not confident and don't have enough friends for a campaign :'D
I’ve seen some of your short form videos, and found them very insightful and funny. Gotta say, you’re a better DM than any I’ve had, and much better than I am currently. I love how every action isn’t just swing and miss/hit, but has a theatrical flair to it. Kudos! I’ll try to incorporate that into my game style.
Just about every one you can think of is. My party went into an inn, and saw a hooded Drow elf with two simitars, but Drizzit was not interested in talking to us.
My first thought seeing 2 rogues was that they could both stand either side of an enemy and whenever the enemies focus shifted they could just take turns sneak attacking him
That was an interesting exchange at 53:01 that highlights the difference between character and player knowledge. Beholders are colloquially called “eye tyrants” when they’re not xenophobic enough to lead communities or orgs, like Xanathar, but when DM said that term, the new player thought he was using the word “tyrant” as like an insult to Xanathar.

Why have I not heard of this channel?!? It's got 2 of my favourite youtubers in it. I'm so glad I found this channel. 😁
My gosh, baby Jacob! Also this is a great actual play, everyone is fully invested in their silly characters.
Currently working through this for my first D&D campaign.
How is it going?
Rui Kirisame - It went so poorly, OP died.
Wow you guys keep it moving. Took my group 12 hours to get where you guys got lol
"I always think of Xanathar like Kingpin" IVE ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT TOO
The bloodeborne hunters dream music is always so soothing
Hey can I get a link to the artist mentioned? I like starring at pictures :3
Staring?
When you realise Xanathar's symbol looks suspiciously like a covid cell
Ahhhhhhh your right.
I was looking for another game to watch and, I was also thinking about running Dragon Heist so, I am super excited to watch!!!
Jacob, you and your friends are adorable!! I don't know if I can commit the time to listen to all episodes, but keep doing what you guys are doing. Much love😍😜
1:30 I mean I let both my parties sleep trough the night before they checked out the warehouse. But they didn't see the kenku so the attack on the zhentarim just happened later and floon and renaer were held prisoners for two more days.
I love Mycroft!
It's nice seeing another DM's take on this.
Easy Roller Dice are simply the best polymers. My DM kit consists of almost 95% that brand, the rest from a handful of my newb sets as well as 4 sets of DCC funky sizes LOL
I love that Irah's art looks like shaggy from scooby doo with more hair
Dude I come home stressed and then BOOM D&D hilariousnes always ensues tis happy again 😊
the deadpool song Jacob was thinking about was "Mama said Knock You Out" by LL Cool J
the first 15 minutes of this was grappling checks
I think Ary is a Divine Soul Sorcerer. I say this as I heard Spencer ask if she could use her Divine Soul ability to gets d4 on a performance check.
Great video! About to run this for the first time myself. SO cool to see how you put everything together and the way the PC’s interpreted everything. *excellent* resource for a new DM.
Is it just me or did Tim change the gender and name of his character?
SPOILERS For later in the episode: they're changelings. So technically yes he did change them, but he also didn't
not spoilers. they have taglines above their names.
Now this is a stream to get comfy to.
Wait Logan’s last name is Reese… like Logan Reese the “bad guy” on Zoey 101… I love it.
Your content is fantastic! Keep up the good work.
I never knew this show was everything I ever needed!
So wait Volo and Zanathar are in this premade campaign?
Just about every one you can think of is. My party went into an inn, and saw a hooded Drow elf with two simitars, but Drizzit was not interested in talking to us.
Also Jarlaxle
@@DarthSoto78 I hate to be THAT guy, but *Drizzt
Having gotten that out of the way, that's awesome, I love that he was incorporated into it for y'all
Matt Mercer is actually sitting in the yawning portal, in the back of the book
When everyone screams INSIGHT
My first thought seeing 2 rogues was that they could both stand either side of an enemy and whenever the enemies focus shifted they could just take turns sneak attacking him
That was an interesting exchange at 53:01 that highlights the difference between character and player knowledge. Beholders are colloquially called “eye tyrants” when they’re not xenophobic enough to lead communities or orgs, like Xanathar, but when DM said that term, the new player thought he was using the word “tyrant” as like an insult to Xanathar.
I’ll try and use this in my Waterdeep Dragon Heist campaign.
Ya''ll know crowbar allows the strength check to be done at advantage right?
