Ethical harvesting is number one priority, much respect Piet. When I hunt here in Michigan with my 300 win mag I don’t take shots past 300. Even though me and my friend practice at 6-800 yards no problem here at the ranches. Too much to go wrong at extended ranges and I believe the animals deserve more respect and an instant painless death.
I couldn't agree with you more. I also feel that the animal deserves more respect. They're not "targets". Having the ability to shoot distance is for enjoyment and to tax ones self. Shooting at animals at great distance removes "the hunt".
What is a too far of an ethical shot to one person may not be for another. If a person can make extremely high percentage hits at 800 yards, just as high a hit percentage as another person can do at 300, then there is no difference, right? If one lives and breathes ballistics and puts it to use on a regular basis, then hitting with high confidence at further distances, then the sky is the limit as long as the shot can be reproduced with high certainty. I hope since us hunters should be on the same side of thought then this scenario is accepted.
So my wording was probably not the best with regards to my comments about how I feel about long range hunting. Let me clarify, I will never go hunting with the goal of finding animals at extended ranges. There are just too many variables that are completely out of your control. Dear Pieter I’m 100% for 0 % animal suffering. Your methods are efficient and respected. I love the fact that you love nature. Your commitment to ethical hunting is evident taking into account your obvious fitness and skill. I’ve always tried to limit the risk of wounding an animal by setting rules and parameters for myself. Long range shooting is great fun when making holes in paper though. I commend your commitment to ethical hunting by shooting at realistic distances where external factors like wind and mirage are manageable, and having equipment that is so accurate that a out of sync heartbeat gets forgiven. Your endeavours bring back wonderfull memories now that we are living in Western Australia.
It's great to see a marksman that understands the difference between 'Can I versus Should I' when the skillset is applied to hunting. 'Can I versus Should I' can be one of the quickest way to separate non-ethical versus ethical hunting.
I still think its unethical shots. Yes, It can go well. But the head is the most mobile part of an animal, and no matter how good of a shot you are there are infinite things that can go wrong, wind, animal moving/scared, error in shooting, weapon or bullet etc etc etc. It all takes a couple cm and you have a animal without bottom cheek starving to death, or a blown of mule.. Why not just take normal vital area shot? Its not like they can go anywhere.
Henrik Johansson Thats right but if he would aimed at the chest to hit the heart, lungs etc. and Misses je would hit the stomach and the buck will suffer unnecesarry if je misses the shot in the Head the possibiltys for the round to hit nothing are higher
Agreed he was confident in his ability and by all means he preformed amazingly but I’m the same way I very rarely shoot in front of the shoulder but if I was as rightly confident in my ability I would have done the same thing

I would say that the worry shouldn’t be so much whether the animal takes one step or even runs 50yds as anything shot through the chest likely does not feel anything due to shock and adrenaline but still expires rapidly. The reason I stay away from headshots usually is that the risk that something goes wrong and you hit the jaw is too great. You can guarantee that if you blow the jaw off a deer/antelope then it will take a lot more than just a few steps and will take days if not weeks to die. I do agree that headshots have their place, the first one for example had minimal risk as it was a little closer and the animal was facing away from you meaning the chance of a clean miss is greater than the chance of a wounding hit. That being said, at 215m with a 20mph wind and shooting face on, the risk outweighs the “return” in my opinion. I can take a head shot I do it on coyotes often.
I’ll save you a ton of head ache. I shoot 300wsm with 200 gr game kings. It’s a tough round to load for with heavier billets. A 300 win mag will do long range WAY easier. give better velocity , cheaper and easier on brass. You have to max out a 300wsm to come close to the 300 win mag. Unless you build a 300wsm on a long action which defeats the purpose of a short action. A 300 win mag or 7mm mag will be a better choice. Good luck. Cheers

I have no idea what it's like to hunt like that in South Africa. Like you, I have always strived for head and neck shots on deer here in the eastern USA. I commend you on your ethics and prowess. Thanks for the video. Looks like a fabulous trip.
I don’t personally agree with this just because there is very little room for error and idc how good someone is at shooting, is it good when you hit, sure but if you miss then it is bad because you could just shoot there eye or blow a hole through the side of there face or their nose, a good double lung is I don’t want to say more ethical because obviously when you hit the shot they are dead but with the error aspect I think a good ole double lung is better, but just my opinion

Do you think a 308 is a good rifle for a all round
You mentioned the chassis of your gun. Are they available in SA or must I purchase one online and have it shipped
I have that same strike eagle by VTX scope, I like that HOLO sight.
Another awesome Hunt.
Well Done Sir.
Could you guys please tell me what kind of scope cam is he using ?
Sweet Vid as always!
Support from Saudi Arabia :)
At 8:53 time mark looks like the Usain bolt of the animal kingdom run by.
Excellent, ethical taking!
Those that read these comments need to understand that this is HARVESTING, not SPORT.
I have no idea what it's like to hunt like that in South Africa. Like you, I have always strived for head and neck shots on deer here in the eastern USA. I commend you on your ethics and prowess. Thanks for the video. Looks like a fabulous trip.
All of this is free to us. Don't apologise to us for any bad quality. Your efforts are always appreciated.
What caliber are you hunting with in this vid Piet ?
I don’t personally agree with this just because there is very little room for error and idc how good someone is at shooting, is it good when you hit, sure but if you miss then it is bad because you could just shoot there eye or blow a hole through the side of there face or their nose, a good double lung is I don’t want to say more ethical because obviously when you hit the shot they are dead but with the error aspect I think a good ole double lung is better, but just my opinion
What rifle were you shooting here
Lekker hunting at Baakensrug. The trophy Gemsbuck and Blue Wildebeest mounted in the lodge are mine.
Wow
Great hunting video amazing shot placement
Good Shooting Mate.
Quality Harvesting. Question, Do you bleed them.
He don't do a damn thing but pull the trigger.
Sir,what has installed on your rifles scope?red dot?
ผมก็ลืมชื่อหมดแล้วนะแต่น่าจะออกสีเขียวอันดับ 1 ของสไนเปอร์เล็กลำกล้องยาวบรรจุได้ 10 นัด
Not on topic with the video, but how long do your 6.5 creedmoor barrels last? and how many more would a casual shooter be able to get?
I got 3200 from my last pipe, and that was mostly high pace match shooting
I’m at about 3k and most of mine is PRS shooting. Will probably retire that barre but still hunt with it close range.
@@IMPACTSHOOTING Is that with N550? I've heard it's harder on the barrels so I was looking towards N160.
Thanks for the quick reply btw!
Hi Piet, I enjoy your hunting videos and found the one where the guys got you to shoot the Kudu mount, kak funny. I saw you pulled the same move on another mate of yours. I live in Cape Town and in the Medical industry. You mentioned you had some sureon mates with you. I have not been able to hunt and if you are looking for a gun to come with to make up numbers, let me know. I am going to range regularly now to keep my eye in. Hope to hear from you. Cheers Glen.

Piet my brother and I would appreciate it if you can please please show us the meat preparation on videos like these
Great hunt, awesome shooting. Well done. 👍🏻
Great video, fantastic content, lovely storyline. Carry on carrying on Pieter!I see a storm in a teacup coming because of the long range hunting "stupid" comment. For all the long range hunters/varminters out there, let us disagree without being disagreeable. Opinions are only offensive when you take it personally, don't. :-)
It is Long Range Shooting ..... not hunting.
