Thank you so much to SA Hunting Rifle for inviting me to this event, it was a blast! Massive thank you to all the shooters for helping me and making me feel welcome!
Piet, I love your videos . This looks like incredibly difficult and so much fun. I’ve never seen anything exactly like this in Mississippi or surrounding states. The wind is howling throughout the match. No stress at all.😵💫👍👍🇺🇸
Hi Piet, Yes "Jaggeweer veld skiet" is the ultimate test of your skills. Always had the impression that I shoot ok, till 3 years ago, attended my 1st of this type and ended up with a ZERO for the day. Learned from it and ended up 35th out of 120 the next year. One can learn a huge amount from these shooters.
Great video Piet!! I had to watch it again. This looks like a great format to test your skills. I loved your interaction with your fellow shooters, it just shows how helpful the shooting community is.
Amazing to see the youngsters enjoying the sport, I shot air rifle field target and hunter field target from 16 and work etc got in the way for a long time. Late 30’s now and although I have always kept shooting I feel competition calling again thanks to your videos.
Epic video Piet. Really enjoyed watching the challenges posed and how you adapted your technique to shoot. Thanks for all the great content as always !
I have been doing hunting rifle shooting in Namibia since 2017 and more recently started with PRS as well. One thing is for sure, the ideal rifle setup for the two disciplines are completely different. Thanks for the nice videos. Please come join a shooting event in Namibia.
It's awesome seeing all the kids and women getting into the sport more and I think all women should do it and all children should be taught it young to grow fundamentals
Ooh sooo snaaks........ek wil net nie 'n poepstring skeur nie... I nearly fell oit of my comfy chair! Lovely, challenging shoot, great video, Thanks, dankie Piet!
Loved it! A lot of the funny positions were born out of trying to be more stable. For intance, free sitting is exactly that, sitting in any position, as long as your elbows do not touch the ground and your bum is on the ground...Most important, it is fun! You only shoot six courses of fire with 5 shot each, there are divisions, similar to a golf handicap...bronze, silver and gold, ladies juniors and seniors. Each competing in their own class, that is why there are so many ladies and juniors. It does not feel like you as first timer compete against military snipers!
Any chance you could spend a moment explaining more why you would want a stock instead of chassis system for this kind of shooting? Love the video and as always motivating me to try more distance shooting.
That rolled over seared crossed leg position is def one I have never saw before. Interesting. I wonder what the advantage is to that position. 🤔. The turn out was awesome at that match! Carry on.
wow looks very fun !! hahah you looks like a a little kid on Christmas eve ! haha very cool to see all the young man and woman participate to this kind of event! please do more match of this kind!
In Australia it’s Practical Hunting Rifle (PHR) Basics are… Unknown target distance. Multiple positions, multiple positions in a single stage. (similar to PRS) Timed stages (30-90sec) Multiple targets at multiple distances on a stage. Paper targets with 0 for a miss, 30.1 for a brain shot, 30 for a kill shot, 25 heart shot, 15 lung shot, -15 wound. (Targets can vary from ground hog to larger Hurd animals. ) .223 and smaller - max 14 power, no dialling (hold overs only.) 50m to 500m 6mm and up is open, to dialling and any power etc… 50m to any safe distance. Those are the basics.
@@michailcoetzee6042there are a few clubs in WA, it’s SSAA approved so if The eastern states want to start they just need to get a SSAA delegate for the state approved then train up RO’s and MD and get the matches approved by local authorities. It’s pretty similar in range requirements as steel series and PRS but with a emphasis on hunting practicality and not things like “tactical” positioning.
Wow! Some mighty fancy and expensive “ hunting” rifles. What an amazing event. Looks like there’s a lot of high end real “ competition “ grade not what you would say is a common hunting rifle. Obviously a great turnout of contestants.
Would be nice to see a competition with rifles with traditional wood stocks/ syntethic stocks and with scopes used in Europe. Like 1-8x24 or 1,7-13,3x42. Or with old scopes from Tasco 3-9x40. Here very few use competition rifles to hunt
Ongelooflikke video Pieter. Lyk my dit was glad nie maklik nie. Lyk my die hele shoot was onstabiel.
I wonder if Pieter would ever make a Afrikaans vocabulary video with shooting sports. I’m thinking about about doing some competitions ob SA thanks to this videos
Piet. Great video. I have one concern though. The explosive inside your primers are Mercury fulminate it is a highly dangerous element to have in your body. Please don't put your cartridges in your mouth after they've been fired.
That is a LOT closer to the shooting I've done...except I've never used a scope. Twenty-seven years ago, when I went through Marine boot camp, we were using some REALLY beat up M-16A2's with iron sights at ranges between 100-500 yards, man sized silhouettes at 300 and 500, bulls-eye targets at 100 and 200. My rifle had practically no rifling left, and the upper and lower receivers were SOOOO loose, the rifle would rattle all the time, and pinch you if you were not careful. The rear retaining pin did eventually snap, and it folded forward on the front pin, and sliced my hand almost requiting stitches. Still shot one point short of expert with that rifle. Now I've got a CETME, a Mosin Nagant carbine, a Tanfoglio .40 cal, and a 308 hunting rifle (just got it when my step-father passed away and haven't shot it yet). The only problem is, I don't really know of anyplace in my area to go shooting. It's frustrating.
Next year the World Championships will be held in Namibia round May 2024. Several European teams will be attending. Will be great to have some of out USA and Canadian competitors come and compete and do some hunting on the same trip.
I've been shooting 25+ years. Never seen that folded-over seated position before. I would not recommend it. Resting the rifle on the back of your hand isn't stable. That you have to break your position (and break natural point of aim) to cycle the bolt is sufficient evidence that this position is a poor choice. Sit cross legged at a 45 degree angle to the target, bend and put your elbows on the front of your knees. Ideally, using the sling for additional support (if you're allowed). You can lock in bone support and now be in a bizarre angle. Plus for hunting it is more practical, because the gun elevated above short grasses and low heat shimmer.
Dont know the rules... But some real odd and less optimal positions used mate. At 100m just a basic seated unsupportet is money with a little training😊👌
Ja nee kyk daai is nie ligte musiek nie. My eerste een 290 punte geskiet laaste een darem al by 513punt so jy raak beter maar daar is moer baie trick in daai sport.
I didn't see any White South-African/Euro Africans in the Stick Fighting competitions of the Basotho and Zulu...so as you can see it could be a cultural thing or even what certain people prefer above something else. Why so many African Americans in the Basketball teams ? Because they enjoy it and are good at it....
Somewhat 'verkramp'. Weird shooting contraptions, positions etc. To me this is somewhat limited thinking. The modern shooter shouldn't have to shoot with forced bad form. Range estimation - no problem. Caveman logic and bad education for young shooters. Love the channel. Good to see young shooters. Maybe the organisers should get in step with the modern world instead of holding people back. Get out the way...
There are two challenges here. One that you have a good rifle setup that can shoot straight and the second, how well you can handle your rifle, keep it on target from various positions and using various props, not knowing distance or wind speeds. This is ultimately the biggest challenge for the shooter. Otherwise, you can just setup your rifle on a bipod, point it the target direction and pull the trigger. No challenge in that.
Thank you so much to SA Hunting Rifle for inviting me to this event, it was a blast! Massive thank you to all the shooters for helping me and making me feel welcome!
Love you videos

Awesome video Piet, looking forward to some follow ups on tips and tricks!
Having a loose understanding of Afrikaans makes this channel much more enjoyable to watch. Cheers from USA.

Thats some of the most unique shooting I think I've ever seen... and I thought I hated unsupported positions most..😅
Some interesting shooting positions there.
Try a Bergara B-14 HMR
That’s awesome and fun man
Piet. Great video. I have one concern though. The explosive inside your primers are Mercury fulminate it is a highly dangerous element to have in your body. Please don't put your cartridges in your mouth after they've been fired.
It's not. It is lead styphnate. Mercury fulminate hasn't been used for many decades.
Ok Sorry then. Put them in your mouth Lead is much much better...
My dad once entered a competition with his 3006 let's just say the guy next to him never herd his wife again😂
where does a guy not from SA find some of those shooting sticks that appear to have rear support?
Respek!
What caliber rifle do you use?
i noticed a RIP around the 9:00 minute mark, i hope that wasn't your shooting partner. either way sorry for your loss.
Leke!! Video is awesome!
Awesome
Ah, I'd forgotten the South African habit of calling a .22-250 a "triple-2 fifty".
Now I know that the video was taken in RSA.
