Hello friends and new viewers! As always, a little disclaimer here: just because I or anyone else declutters a perfume does NOT mean it is a bad perfume or that I wouldn't still recommend a perfume. Our tastes change all the time as we're human and that's how it works. I hope you enjoy! :)
If that's the case (with tastes changing), I wonder if it would be better for one to try out a fragrance longer before giving an overall review 🤔? Another option can be to write down initial thoughts of a fragrance and have the initial thoughts side by side with the overall review (kind of like comparing the review of initial vs. overall thoughts) to see if feelings have changed or are the same.
Thank you for sharing your perfume journey as honestly as you do. Perfume and memory don’t go hand-in-hand for me, so it’s eye-opening to see how scent purchasing or events deeply crystallize in the emotional part of our brain through perfumes. My stepmom was a mean woman but she wore the most stunning fragrances. When I smell her perfumes I don’t even think of her but rather remember the high I got from the smell. Weird how each one of us packs up or sense memories. A zombie apocalypse can happen while I wear Chanel this or that and it won’t affect me at all to wear it over and over afterwards 🙈
I feel the same way about Chance. Sometimes the EDP is too heavy and the EDT is too fresh. So I started wearing them layered together and that works. I get a lil bit of fresh and sexy. I also layer them with Eau Fraiche.
Have you ever smelt l'occitane cherry blossom? My husband picked it up for me many many years ago as a gift early on in our relationship and I think it is pretty good for the price. Particularly the dry down scent. I don't like many perfumes at all, but this one is a solid choice I think.
I agree. You must get what you enjoy. Not because it's niche or some house. Learn to love what you have. Else how can you ever reach a state of satisfaction ?
Yes! Good for you. I’m in the middle of letting go of a lot fragrances right now too. I used to work in fragrance and I have acquired quite a few. Some of them I have kept for the same reasons. It feels exciting to have something that’s hard to get but if I’m not wearing it, it needs to go. I have a few that don’t reach for and I’m at a point in my life where I don’t want to be challenged by a fragrance. Life has enough challenges I just want to enjoy my fragrance. I’ve met a lot of niche go as well I also prefer designer. Thank you for being so real.
Purchased a decant of Gris Charnel because of all the hype. I’m glad it was only a decant because we did not get along. Purchased a decant of Velvet Tonka after watching your video and again, glad it was only a decant because it was too powdery play do like on me. Btw I think we have the same taste in vanillas so I have a suggestion for you to try, Shalimar Philtre. Such a gorgeous vanilla! I just purchased the biggest bottle.
Gosh, I was sooo shocked when you showed Orchidée Vanille. 😭😂 For ALL the others, I wasn't surprised at all. But I really thought OV was one of your favorite ! Anyway, such a satisfying declutter, even more for you I think. I can't wait for your complete collection video !😊
Love your outlook on this! If it’s not an automatic YES I LOVE YOU… then it’s a no for me! One day you will have your perfectly curated collection, I know it! I really enjoy your declutter videos and hearing your reasons for parting with the perfumes. Regarding the question of keeping a perfume solely for the memory: if I have a LOT of good memories attached to it I might keep it bit if its a one time event then likely no, thats not enough to keep a bottle, IMO! Also, for demi rawling recs.. i take everything she says with a grain of salt especially when it pertains to bdk and pdm…. Her father-in-law is part of the group that owns and distributes perfume from niche houses such as pdm and bdk, and Initio too i think. She Doesn’t disclose this but its so obvious her opinion is biased. If she recommends something I would get a sample first and try it for myself or keep watching other reviewers to see if their opinions are similar. I did get a decant of bdk pas ce soir based on demi’s recommendation (+ other youtube reviews) and I will say, I ended up getting a full bottle and I love it
I am in agreement with you on the fig note. Theoretically I like it but there is something about it that doesn’t sit well with me. Also, I understand what you said about wanting to like fragrances from certain brands/houses. I LOVE Jo Malone bottles and the names of their fragrances. However, I’ve yet to find one I really like. Therefore I don’t have one in my collection. I do not blind buy and I only purchase fragrances I consider to be at least an 8 on a scale of 1-10. I really enjoy watching your videos! Have a blessed evening!
I had the same issue with Velvet Tonka (and bought it for the same reason), but fortunately I'd only bought a sample. (Thank goodness for sample sites!) Anyway, I love your last point about perfume houses getting hyped and everyone thinking they need at least one perfume from a given company, "But we don't." And we really just don't. 👍
I had the same experience with Dolce Amalfi. I can’t get the Juicy Fruit gum association out of my head. I know some people actually like Dolce Amalfi specifically because it smells like Juicy Fruit, but it’s not for me. Something else from Xerjoff with a similar vibe is Decas. Similar scent profile with a touch of that fruity gum smell, but not as obvious as Dolce Amalfi. Still a sweet candy-like scent though, but that’s why I like it 😊
I wonder if you shouldn’t wait on sun dazed until summer… I remember you got it to fill a bright citrusy frag in summer… and you loved it when it was hot😍 also it is one I think wears differently than smelling at the atomizer so wonder if that skews your feelings! But great job making those hard decisions ❤️
I definitely think it’s ok to keep a perfume because of memory attached. I do that with perfume I’ll never wear again. Also, definitely think you should keep chance edp. I think that’ll be a regret if you declutter.
I also decluttered Casilli because of the same reason (do we have the same nose??) hehe but yeah I was excited because it was also PDM and the opening is absolutely stunning. It reminded me of something princess diana would wear idk why - I’m not even from the UK LOL BUT what killed me was the dry down. It smelled like rotten peach at the very end. It was very cloying and screetchy rotten fruit at the end and the elegance and cleanliness only happens in the opening.
Yes im actually doing a big declutter right now its like before i know.it i have 112 perfumes and thats way to much for me so im actually going thru them now i have decluttered very good girl it just smelled like other perfumes i have
I do keep perfumes for other reasons, like scent memories and if it's a certain bottle style I like. Jessica Simpson Fancy, Mon Guerlain, and Estee Lauder Pleasures lines of perfume bottles are so pretty, so I display them.
Keep the chance edp as well don’t let it go, I have the chance edp and Cassili, both are beautiful like you 😇😊 I layered cassili and delina the original both together are so good. Have a wonderful day 🤩
Well done, stay strong, you don’t need to hold on to something that’s not exactly „you“. 😊💖Haha, I also let go of BDK Velvet Tonka and Gris Charnel for exactly the same reasons. Velvet Tonka was a blind buy, too and this powdery almond note reminded me of Guerlain L‘ Instant Magic, which made me feel sick actually... 😕
Hi, I don’t keep perfumes for memories unless it is extremely precious to me..I find the Byredo overrated I must say..I find chance edp a bit dated I admit..very interesting video.. I have explored niches without much success, most smell weird or not pleasant..like you, leather on a perfume doesn’t work, unless it is very soft or sweetened by other notes..light blue doesn’t work for me, smells like citronella on me .
Keep Byredo Sundazed. Spray PDM Oriana on one arm and Sundazed on the other. They smell very similar to me. Sundazed gives me that cotton candy note in the dry down that I can't get enough of.
Good for you with making these hard choices! Niche are fun to sample but I find myself wearing designer more and more. We are moving to the great state of Texas (yay!) and when you have to start thinking about packing, a lot of anything starts to feel oppressive
I smelles loubirouge the other day!!! I was head over heals to find a Loubiton buitique in Copenhagen. I LOVED it ( thanks dear 🥰) but I know that if I but it, I would never reach for it, as it is so expensive 😅🥲Do you ever reach out for yours?

great video Ilythia! I was surprised that you got rid of Orchidee Vanille! I am familiar with the note you’re talking about, though, and I totally know that it can be a little much. It’s only prevalent on me in the opening and as it dries down on my skin, that note disappears, so I’m quite thankful for that! I recently got rid of about 5 fragrances. I find it a lot easyer to splash my designers and to fully enjoy them. I have kept a few high end, as Baccarat and some Creed Aventus, Delina exclusive, Ylangylang, witch I’ll wear a lot 😍For me these are easy reaches..
I finally got a chance to smell BR540 and BR540 extrait…honestly, it was just ok!😂 Even my daughter said that I have better smelling perfumes in my collection. We did like Gentle Fluidity Gold though 🥰👌very nice!❤️
i go back and forth with Baccarat to be honest. Some days I'm like wow I love, other days I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's always played mind games with me :)
Wow what a declutter! I got rid of a few too. I'm still on the fence about scandal by night... I think it's just too sweet for me. I got rid of versace versense and dylan turquoise also choco violette from mancera ( I just didn't like the violet, it smelled weird on my skin)
I wonder if Gris Charnel bares any resemblance to Crystal noir EDT, just from the way you described it and the notes I wonder if they are similar at all 🤔 I get dark fruity fig and sandalwood creaminess from crystal noir edt 💜
To my nose, not at all nothing similar. If you have JPG la belle, these two are similar but Gris Charnel has black tea note, more softer and more classy than JPG la belle imo
I’ve also fallen into the house hype trap. Guess we learned the hard way 💸 I see it as all being part of the journey. Seems like you made a lot of insightful conclusions like the fig note. 💜
Dolce Amalfi definitely reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum 😂 I thought that though before reading reviews. I only have a sample, but I don’t see myself buying a full bottle. It’s a nice scent, but I can’t see myself reaching for it often.
Thank you for this video! I love this type of video because it makes me feel better about letting go of expensive fragrances I had high hopes for. It’s true that you can’t force yourself to love a perfume (though you can try for a while!). I now have a personal collection that I wear (about 10 fragrances) as well as about 4 that I’m holding onto for either sentimental reasons (a happy period in time 10 yrs ago, although I’ve moved on taste-wise) or bcs I like smelling them at the atomizer (BDK Velvet Tonka, L’Interdit Rouge- also, I must admit, I adore the bottles), and a ton of samples. I consider the latter two categories my fragrance “archives” 😉.
Ha! I don’t like fig either .The only perfume I kept for years with fig is Womanity.Anything else disturbed my nose 😞.With TF Metallique I was in love until my BF said it smells like blood and chicken liver and it was over, thats all I could smell from that moment on,I had to get rid of it
I really want to try bdk gris Charnel it’s just something about how everyone explains it that makes me so intrigued. I also want to try the xerjoff bouquet ideale that one also sounds intriguing. Even the way you explain it and why you decluttered them, lol!! Totally understand though wanting a collection that everything is a 10/10 for yourself. That’s what I want too!! 🙌🙌💖
I highly recommend you to try Gris Charnel! It is such a soft and cozy scent. Such a wonderful creamy woody fragrance with a sweet and slightly spicy note 🥰.
Hello friends and new viewers! As always, a little disclaimer here: just because I or anyone else declutters a perfume does NOT mean it is a bad perfume or that I wouldn't still recommend a perfume. Our tastes change all the time as we're human and that's how it works. I hope you enjoy! :)

Keep the Chanel Chance! It's more classy than edt. You'll need that heavier version of it!
Thank you for sharing your perfume journey as honestly as you do. Perfume and memory don’t go hand-in-hand for me, so it’s eye-opening to see how scent purchasing or events deeply crystallize in the emotional part of our brain through perfumes.

I'm the same as you, I don't associate my perfume with a memory
Now I’m just imagining someone wearing chanel chance edp while slaying a zombie, great imagery
I feel the same way about Chance. Sometimes the EDP is too heavy and the EDT is too fresh. So I started wearing them layered together and that works. I get a lil bit of fresh and sexy. I also layer them with Eau Fraiche.
I don't get pickles in Decadence either 😂 but I totally agree, sometimes things that people say can really ruin it for you

My husband loves this one too 😀
Ilythia, I think in the dead of winter you will enjoy the Chanel Chance EDP for it’s heavy warmth. Then your EDT can replace it in the Spring!
I agree. You must get what you enjoy. Not because it's niche or some house. Learn to love what you have. Else how can you ever reach a state of satisfaction ?
Are you selling all the perfumes you're decluttering? I would like to have VanCleef & Arpels Orchidée Vanille.
Yes! Good for you. I’m in the middle of letting go of a lot fragrances right now too. I used to work in fragrance and I have acquired quite a few. Some of them I have kept for the same reasons. I love Pas ce Soir by BDK which means "Not tonight" I have it and love it
Create new memories with a summer fragrance you really love, say goodbye to Sundazed 😊
Hahaha the one note I can’t handle is salt! Any fragrance with a salt note is a big no no.

I don't like D&G Light Blue either, and I wanted to! :)
I decluttered light blue before I ever obtained a bottle, by trying it in the store and saying "no thank you!"
I never declitter because I love them all a certain way.
I had the same feeling about Cassili. I really disliked it, but I can’t really say why.
I always enjoy a good perfume declutter as I do the hauls. Oddly enjoyable lol. You videos are always enjoyable Ilythia!

I love watching your declutter vids! Did they all find new homes yet?

great video Ilythia! I was surprised that you got rid of Orchidee Vanille! I am familiar with the note you’re talking about, though, and I totally know that it can be a little much. I can agree, I didn’t like Velvet Tonka either…. Like at all
Ha! I don’t like fig either .The only perfume I kept for years with fig is Womanity.Anything else disturbed my nose 😞.With TF Metallique I was in love until my BF said it smells like blood and chicken liver and it was over, thats all I could smell from that moment on,I had to get rid of it
Oh wow yeah I don’t blame you; I’d have to get rid of a perfume that my partner said smelled like that too!!!
Definitely try gris charnel! I bought a 9ml from scentsplit a month ago & it’s completely gone, so beautiful in these colder temps 😍
Have you tried anything from Initio?
She has, there are videos about it ☺️
@@ilovesunsets yes I remember she tried rehab.
So proud of you for getting rid of those tough fragrances!! So satisfying to see. I was SHOCKED when I saw Sundazed but it needed to be done😌

I definitely can’t be persuaded by an opinion on a perfume I’ve been loving. That’s different.
Too funny about the cat 😹 By the way tried Fresh Cream by Philosophy and love it. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t get Pickles in Decadence either.
