- My buddy gave me a FREE coolant filter kit! It's missing a few parts, but I think we can fix that with our stash of extra parts. So, today we're going to put it on our 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel that we call Project Freedom!

I installed the same sinister filter setup on my ‘99 about 6 months ago. You should’ve replaced that upper radiator hose with a dual alternator one so it wraps around the belt instead of going through the belt.
Yeah, I really do need to change it out.
I've never heard of a "coolant filter" for a vehicle, tractor or farm equipment. Interesting. I believe plumbers have the correct bit for that square plug, because of the "NPT" style fitting. Great job "engineering" one that worked. Did you release the radiator cap pressure? Me thinks you need a bigger "catch pan". I noticed your first fitting was "NFT" fitting, thought maybe I was mistaken. Fan from the bottom via a wheel well to cool quicker, heat rises? 50Cal ammo can, I have several, many moons ago I served Uncle Sam. Did you place a Ty-Wrap on the blue tube @ the frame?
Yep, that's a plumber's square plug for sure, NPT fitting. I did forget the ty-wrap until I went back to edit the video. Good catch!!
Thanks for the shout out. I feel like a five-year-old kid when the romper room lady would say our name on television. Appreciate the channel. It's a wealth of information for me. Keeps me enticed to get out and work on it the 2000 f350 I've owned since she was new. Thanks
By the way, I'm a Ham Radio operator also 73 W7GUM
Romper room - I haven't thought about that since Reagan was president. 73 my friend!
Not sure about fords but these for Cummins from what I’ve heard aren’t the best always as cylinder 6 (farthest one) is always the one that gets the least lubrication and cooling so (for Cummins) which is what I know take coolant away from the farthest cylinder as your adding another filter(restriction really) and increasing the chances of blow by( ring failure). I didn’t get this for my 5.9 because of how hard she runs having being pre def. Only have heard it being a Cummins thing though
Yeah, in this case, the coolant filter doesn't get placed in the normal coolant flow, rather it crates a new coolant flow and goes in there. Before the filter, there was just a pipe plug in place.
Free is my price too! Hope it works as hoped! Wow, your truck is equipped with stuff inside!
Yeah, I can almost afford free!
@@ProjectTimeGarage I almost can too! Lol!
Just in time video. I have one that I got from Riffraff and am ready to install it. Don't know if I really need it, but like you said, couldn't hurt. So I drained my coolant and flushed the system. I drained into a cut open gallon milk jug and let that overflow into a larger pan. I wanted to capture any junk that I could inspect. I was somewhat surprised at the fine metal, black iron, that was in the bottom of the milk jug, mostly from the drain plugs on the block. Those fines may be too heavy and may or may not circulate through the system, but that convinced me that a filter might be a good idea. I had invested in a Sunex pipe plug impact socket set awhile ago and that worked out for the plugs. I suggest anyone working on a 7.3 get one. Thanks again Brian.
Thanks for the info - I'm going to cut open my filter after some use. I'm curious to see how much sediment is circulating around too.
I've had a Dieselsite coolant filter setup on my 7.3 for about 15 years. I change it about once a year, I run red ELC coolant and many say the filter really isn't needed. I run the same upper radiator hose you do and found that the one that goes around the belt will rub on my filter.....
Ohh, that's good info. I was considering the hose that goes around back. Thanks for sharing!
I believe by design(chemical structure)coolant will never make it in a bucket 🤣🤣🤣
Great idea on getting that pipe plug out
That is 100% mathematically accurate. Coolant avoids containers at all costs.
Freedom was probably feeling neglected because the Hooptie been getting a lot of attention 🤣
I put the same coolant system on my truck, figured it couldn't hurt 🤔
Yeah, I think it was getting a little jealous. All work and no love.
If we are only talking filter it's a great idea , I was lucky to learn from a couple of great old dudes that on gas and diesel it's a good idea I run one on my 2001 5.9 dodge and have a video on my channel of the one I run like I said it's a good idea cleaning the liquid and making things last longer in our expensive world .
Yeah, if it helps even a little bit, it's worth it.
I have the same setup on my 7.3 mine started leaking around the crimp at the t at the coolant bottle had to cut the crimp off and put a clamp on it
Oh, that's good to know.
The first thing to do is to throw out that old fan . It is not worth losing any fingers.
Ohhh, I don't know about that. The old fan has been around for generations. It's practically part of the family at this point.
i seen one of them forsale on facebook marketplace, but i just bought a water pump that came with a filter on it not long ago so didn't need it, pretty cool though!
That's cool, never seen the water pump with filter.
@@ProjectTimeGarage it wss expensive lol but working good so far i did that red elc coolant swap while i was n there
NICE QUICK VIDEO.....AND HELPFUL.....
Thanks!!
Freedoms back baby
Yep!!
We appreciate you !
Thanks so much!!
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!! IF IT'S FREE IT'S FOR ME!!!😂 Thanks for the shout-out Brian! Brother you put out some good content so it's the least I can do to send ya a comment or two, lol. That filter was really not to bad to install, well except for the clean up 😂👍
Anywho, you take care and stay cool my friend, God Bless 🙏. ~Jay~
Thanks bud! I really appreciate the views and interaction. Helps. A. Ton.!
Thanks for the shout-out love the channel, been throwing around the idea of putting a bypass coolant filter setup on my 6.0.
Hopefully it'll help prolong the life of the old 7.3 a bit. Thanks for watching!
