One of my favorite albums. Would have loved to see if they could have made more awesome music, but also kind of glad they just nailed it and left it to be.
Haha certainly not intentional, we recorded this 2.5 months ago! 😅 But Drumeo's video is awesome as well! There's enough love for Travis to go around that's for sure!
“Always” was my very first song I covered on my UA-cam channel and still to this day is one of the most creative, expressive, and well executed drum parts he has written. Such an idol even years later!
@@johnsmith-fz5pz It is easy to confuse admiration with worship. It is also really easy to reply to a comment without using informed logic before creating said response. Nobody is worshipping anyone here.
Great explanation. I've always been one of those people that never understood why everyone thought Travis was so good, now I can sort of understand it a little more. Still not fully converted but more-so than I was.
Travis is the person who inspired me to ever learn to pick up an instrument and I use “always” to showcase his talents and versatility. This is a fantastic breakdown. Bravo.
i cant wait to see yall and godsmack live man, me and my uncle bought tickets for yalls show on may 17th in birmingham alabama! its gonna be my first concert ive been to and im so glad iprevail will be there as the special guest with godsmack, cant wait to see you live man
Awesome presentation! Always has... always beeon one of my Top 3 Blink-182 songs and i always found the drumming to be the best part. Glad someone acknowledged the drums in such an awesome way!
Never understood the Travis barker hate from some people. Dude is a beast and can play circles around most people we know. Also considering his accident several years ago he’s a trooper
hate? Ive never known of a single person IRL who didnt love his playing. It's insane he's not in the hall of fame yet. Travis' playing is God tier. But then again, I do know a lot of drummers.
Got to love all the new videos. Great information. Make sure you get on the list everyone. Gabe is an amazing teacher. You can not go wrong. Hope to see you all there.
Yah Travis is known for his marching band skills. Gave that drum a rim job. Ha Then he taps the top of the symbols as you were saying for buildups. Tape mute is clever. Maybe he had studio direction from producer to clean up the sound more. It’s almost jungle type beats the way it flows. Take that to punk rock beats. Cool channel. I’ll check more vids. I seen Blink play in late 90’s at opening of Famous Stars flagship store in Riverside Ca. If you get a chance check my patented vertical scallop invention. The edge of the FretCorner plucks the string to add extra notes to pulloffs, infinite vibrato sustain, and new bend. Plus full power chords into grooves to get new rhythms. This relates to drums as creating new grooves will alter the way you approach drumming to them and ultimately create new styles of drumming in subtle ways. It’s been done by famous guitar / bassist on high string off fretboard such as Flea / Jeff Buckley/ Ron Carter / Kirk Hammett and even Hendrix carved fret notches in the fretboard on the intro of foxy lady. My uncle Gary Lucas composed Jeff Buckley Grace on guitar and even composed riffs on Chris Cornell Carry On tracks 3-14, Joan Osborne Relish. He’s a studio legend. Hmu maybe you can try the guitar or drum to some experimental riffs 🎸🎶 🥁🙌🏽
Beautiful dissection of the song and drum beat. Would you please display Rob Bourden from Linkin Park, and Abe Cunningham from Deftones. Both drummers display parts that perfectly match the song of their respective bands. Would love to see your opinion on them.
Man this breakdown is brilliant and really highlights the genius of trav’s style. It baffles me why so many older drummers act like he’s not very good. I’ve studied him for 15 years. His drumming has brought me to tears of joy many times.
This is so good. I love the editing, videography and presentation of these videos. Very informative. You reckon you could do one on Justin Foley from Killswitch Engage. He is a very underrated drummer from Killswitch Engage.
It sounds like Travis uses the kick drum instead of the floor tom in the chorus for the 1st and 3rd fills. 4 x 16th notes on the snare, 4 x 16th notes on the kick?
Beautiful video, it's all true one things. This song is perfect with example, but one is more shocking, and it' s with kenny hopla.... SILENCE IS ALSO ANSWER!!! Travis = ALIEN!!!
You analysis was more perfect than the song, or Travis' playing. Thank you. I appreciate Travis' choices more, but, despite his chops, his playing has all the heart, soul, and groove of a nail gun. Snooze. ...
Symbol kissing not bad every good drummer calls those something my last called it Symbol tapping but I like Symbol kissing who knows you may have named that technique 😉
I really hate that they're referred to as "3 secret hacks" and not just "3 composition techniques" or something less...~mysterious~...I don't understand how these techniques would be considered "secrets" or "hacks".
"expert creativity" for playing something on a fu**in rim? have you heard any proper music? building your beat up from its single instruments is not called dynamic and definitely not "mastery"... its called layering and is done by every damn electro DJ. and in general: taking Travis Barker as an example for a good drummer is absolutely ridiculous in comparison to what else is out there... I can only give everyone the tip to please listen to more then just your own music genre, when you want to reach greatness. believe me: Travis Barker is not a special drummer
do people really think he's some sort of drum genius?....nothing unique here, songs can be played in 100+ ways , he played something differently (than the most would ) and boom--> genius!! this world needs to wake up eventually
Travis Barker is a great drummer and amazing performer; but I’m real tired of people throwing the word genius around. It basically means anyone you think is good at something. “Genius” used to mean a rare cut above. Not anyone who did something creative. Tony Williams was a genius. Neil Peart was a genius. Trilok Grutu, genius. Giovanni Hidalgo, genius. Is Barker really in the same league as these cats?? 🤔
What's you favorite Blink-182 song of all time? Let me know! 👇
hard to say... top 5 : Story of a lonely guy, first date, always, asthenia, feeling this.
Adam's Song
Drumwise it's definitely Anthem Part II
Stay together for the kids
Not Now #1 Asthenia #2
I urge everyone who likes Travis and loves drumming to listen to the box car racer album. His drumming on that album is INSANE!
One of my favorite albums. Would have loved to see if they could have made more awesome music, but also kind of glad they just nailed it and left it to be.
His project with yelawolf psycho white had some insane beats too, dudes just amazing
Untitled is his master work tho
Man you and drumeo upload a Travis Barker theme an hour apart. This gonna be a good day. Good stuff Gabe.
Haha certainly not intentional, we recorded this 2.5 months ago! 😅
But Drumeo's video is awesome as well!
There's enough love for Travis to go around that's for sure!

Just checked your cover mate, great work!
? an idol? no a person. a drummer. a really good drummer. but not an idol (don't worship him he is not God)

Agreed!
Travis is no doubt one of the greats! So much to learn and take from his expertise, it really makes one want to be creative and just have fun.
Such a great takeaway!

Travis is the person who inspired me to ever learn to pick up an instrument and I use “always” to showcase his talents and versatility. This is a fantastic breakdown. Bravo.
Feeling This has amazing beats 😍😍
This guitarist is absolutely pumped watching this! So much energy and creativity in action here! Cheers to great drummers!
not a travis fan, not even a blink fan, but this song shows so much love, respect and sensitivity for the instrument and the song ...

God I could watch your videos on Travis' drumming all night long.. great vid and great drumming!!
That box car racer album has a smorgasbord of creative drumming !!!!! Every song was a gold mine

Amazing video. I agree this is his best drum part no question
unreal video Gabe! This is top tier drum content. everything is explained and shown so well, we all appreciate it so so much man 🤟
I remember recording this song on a cassette player, then playing it in slow-mo to learn this drumline-esque rim-centric lick! #nostalgia
I really enjoyed this video, very insightful and inspiring ✌️
So happy you liked it!!

why does every drummer try to copy the Travis head bob when they play a Blink song? cringe af.
