I see a lot of comments still just making up all kinds of stuff as an excise to just be mad at youtube, which again doesnt help the problems. Im all for fighting back when it’s needed but just making stuff up to be mad doesnt solve anything. They wont listen then.
I think the record ping-pong I had on a video was - green by bots - yellow by bots - green by manual review - age-gated by manual review - restored to green by manual review I don't mind things that are on the edge of "inapproperiate" to get demonetized or gated when it crosses a line. But it's so inconsistent that the "line" just feels random at times
i think possibly there is a bit of missing communication (that or opinions on the matter) about what is acceptable, but keep up your good work you are very entertaining.
Exactly! I think many of us know a video like my eye tracker is pushing things but other stuff getting flagged when its far more innocent makes it feel very RNG
13:22 100% All of this situation with age restriction could be solved by just having UA-cam tell us what part of the video triggered the restriction so we can cut it out and solve the issue, I hope they really consider this, it seems like slowly but surely they are being more transparent to us and hopefully we get to a point where all this won't happen again!
It's strangely heartwarming that you can tell Sean is angry about the problems in this system, but you can also see the love and care that he has for the community and the system in general.
UA-cam has changed a lot since 2012 and as an OG UA-camr I can definitely say I have never felt less secure in my entire life. Your constantly sitting on the edge of your seat, from getting flagged to copywrite strikes, the struggle to have to clickbait just so that your 6 month project doesn't go to waste, not to mention I recently got hacked and had crypto videos running on my channel it took a week to recover my account and after months off UA-cam no fault of my own, who knows if the algorithm will even remember me when I get back.
Yeah, I actually got strikes before just because of anime music, even though the same music was all over the place on here. UA-cam has so many issues in general...and of course UA-cam doesn't give a crap.
Sadly, this seems like only the tip of the iceberg. Inconsistency and nontransparency are major, MAJOR issues this platform has not been held accountable for, and Creators like Cory may pay the price. Having spent more than a decade creating here, it seems UA-cam will always have something to blame and nothing to change. Here’s hoping this leads to a real, effective dialogue instead of another Rewind-style PR facelift.
Yo bruvv I’m a small content creator, and I make a variety of entertaining reactions, vlogs, and a range of other content and I’m still working on quality but I guarantee you will find something you will enjoy!🤠
I'm glad Sean is taking a nice juicy break! You deserve it dude. He is still active on Twitter and mentioned that his next video will be his 5,000th video, so I don't think he's done for good :) just taking a good much needed rest!
Happens to me too. Nowadays I feel unsafe with most of my videos that are currently monetized, because it happened so many times, that videos that got MANUALLY reviewed and approved would get demonetized and sometimes even AGE RESTRICTED after a second seemingly random manual review. Sometimes these reviews happen weeks, up to AN ENTIRE YEAR later. I remember one time I uploaded a video. It got manually approved for monetization. Then later it got age restricted, I appealed it, it got approved and the video went green again. AND THEN MONTHS LATER, it got ANOTHER demonetization, only that now I can't appeal it anymore. It hurts 😮💨
Forgotten or just stopped giving a shit. Sure the content creators are their bread and butter but advertisers and investors bring in even more revenue...when money talks, bullshit walks.
I doubt this will get read, but their lack of transparency exists for a couple reasons. The first is plausible deniability to protect themselves legally. Much like most things legally, they give themselves a lot of grey area to wiggle within, so they’re never necessarily guilty or not guilty of certain actions or inactions. The second is to prevent anyone from actually figuring out the algorithms, so they can’t be exploited. UA-cam, fb, and all the other platforms do this. Heck, the government does this, which is why most Americans unknowingly break 17 laws a day lol. Keeping the lack of transparency will keep them in power over customers and creators. The only way they will change is with platform competition. But I guarantee you youtube and other social media are receiving government subsidies and funding, which keeps them at the top and prevents any meaningful competition. Zuckerberg already said they worked with the FBI on Rogan’s podcast. They don’t do that for free. They get stuff in return for cooperation. When a government favors companies, that secures their spot at the top.
They've also forgotten "Broadcast Yourself" and "Don't Be Evil." It's a capitalistic and predatory environment now that rewards the wrong things, and punishes the wrong things.
It’s absolutely heartbreaking and insane how what was supposed to be a platform where people can share, create, communicate, be part of a great community and ENJOY THEMSELVES, has become a place full of ridiculous problems.
i was thinking it would be a big opportunity for someone to see this and create a new platform and promote the hell out of it as like a new and better alternative and they will be rivals with youtube kinda like pepsi coca cola, iphone samsung
The problem isn’t UA-cam. The problem is Susan, she doesn’t care about UA-cam. In order for UA-cam to be fixed and brought back to what it once was, we need the original 2 CEOs Chad Hurley and Steve Chen to come back and stop Susan from destroying UA-cam due to Ads, Coppa, Bots, and unnecessary demonetization
I know and copyright strikes claims are fine but it depends on the how copyright protection is on songs like linkin park is very copyright protection but if the owner allows it it’s fine ❤🎉
Those were the gold era of UA-cam. Nobody cares about feeling and making money that much. They just got pussified after 2018 rewind. Now a bunch of corporations with sensitive and easily offended running my boy
Yeah Susan has launched so much automation when if you just get more people in and split their hours so half the office is on at day and the other half in on at night YOU CAN HAVE MORE EFFECTIVE FASTER MORE PRECISE AND MORE RELIABLE Moderation Take the moderation down And ban Susan from launching automation
We heard that several times already. Someone (Amazon?) needs to make an alternative. At this point UA-cam can do what they want since they are a Monopol. What do we want? Leave?
It's a shithole. One filled to the brim with bullcrap they try to pull on EVERYONE, and when we can practically SEE the foul smell, they tries to burry the hole, only to fall into said hole.
One thing I feel like they should change? The "Stop seeing this ad" option. I keep getting spammed with ads I selected that for, and not only do they keep coming but I lose the ability to select it. The icon is just gone, I only get "Why this ad?" So instead of ads I want to see, like I never knew Pokemon Legends Arceus was released until friends said they were playing it, I get Wendy's ads and Evertale, both of which I hate, and even though I have alcohol based ads selected not to be shown I still get ones for them too. I would get a lot less frustrated if they fixed their ad systems.
Ah so at least you not had some the scary ads I have had then! They really need a report ad feature. Or just watch UA-cam at a certain 2am to 5am and the ads are just bad! Scams and extremists I wish I wash joking!
This is my personal biggest issue as a viewer. I'm fine with catering my ads experience with stuff I'm interested in. I can learn of new products I want, that way. But too many of the ads I see are stuff I have consistently marked as something I'm not interested in. No, I don't like makeup, I don't like cars, I'm never joining the military. Where the fuck do they get the idea I'm interested in this stuff? It's like, after I block those sources, I _only get those ads over and over._ It's legitimately making me consider getting an ad blocker. It drives me crazy.
Well they have his on all tvs if you can skip ads by re0orting it will also skip it instantly all the time plus you can report ads on devices idk what you are looking at lmao
But also I should be able to select "stop seeing this ad" without having to fork over more personal information. I don't want UA-cam to cater my ads, I just don't want to see certain ads
Jacks videos definitely help with my depression... even if it's just a voice in the background to take my mind off of everything for a lil bit at a time...
It’s good that Sean thinks out loud here and shares it with everyone because this is a logical conclusion. If the copyright tools can evolve to let claimants identify and creators to rectify music or video claims (by cutting out segment entirely or the soon-to-be reality of dropping the music altogether and keeping audio with AI tools!) then you’d think it obvious that the same systems, or close to them, could be put in place to deal with age restriction violations. 👍
I doubt this will get read, but their lack of transparency exists for a couple reasons. The first is plausible deniability to protect themselves legally. Plus there could be an age warning or something like '16+' or whatever. They're making things so unnecessarily complex and difficult. Would it come to where people go to a different platform other than UA-cam because of this BS?
@@chef2042 that on the parents being braindead and don't act like u don't see all the p0rn bots yt lets run rampant in the comments for all "kids" to see
I always love to see our generations of 11-17 yr olds forgotten. I don’t want to see tits, but I want to watch content appropriate for my age group my guy
I think the idea is that UA-cam Kids is for people who are too young to have an account (under 13, I think?), and the age restriction is supposed to separate stuff suitable for teens from stuff they aren't considered old enough to see. But even if that was the intended purpose, it doesn't seem to be how they're utilizing it.
Issues with UA-cam so far: -Lack of communication -Relying too much on AI -Not enough human staff -Rules that are excessive -Low maintenance on AI -Refusal to listen to the community/make an effort to improve -Possible Racism -Little to no information or reassurance about what’s going on -Issues with the ‘real’ staff (Please let me know if I missed any in the reply section! :D )
-Silencing good content creators and allowing bad ones to thrive. -Pretending that YTKids is a taboo thing and punishing innocent creators for what kids watch unsupervised. -Ignoring their own community guidelines. -Intentions to integrate NFTs. -The fuckin' over-advertising that's seriously pissing everybody off! *Need I say more on why CEO Susan should be booted for good?*
Age restricting videos because they're deemed to mature for advertisers while running ads that are way more sexual than the videos they're restricting. I have literally seen ads for mobile games that describe themselves in the ads as NSFW. Edit: Also, just got an ad for a mobile game which included a different game's characters. UA-cam should copyright claim these ads.
I've never really understood the whole "advertiser friendly" thing. The only ads I've ever seen have been for things that adults would purchase, so why would the video need to be kid friendly? Do advertisers not want to sell airtime during The Sopranos? Breaking Bad? Game of Thrones? Are these not "age restricted" shows?
It's not they care what ads go through on mobile anyways. So many overtly sexual ads that give me second hand embarrassment for whoever decided to let them on the app
They even have ads meant for adults on their children's videos, so it just goes to show that UA-cam makes absolutely no sense in what they deem is "family friendly" or not. 😂😂 I'd say about 1 in every 10 ads on a children's video is actually meant for kids. 😂😂 Edited to remove an unnecessary "and". 😂
@@stevensanchez1192 cory's video has been up for a week. that video has trended across many platforms with COUNTLESS creators talking abt it - you would think that by now atleast a statement of some kind would show up
Honestly, a return of the dislike count being publicly viewable would help. It's currently obfuscating information that could help the viewers more easily identify bad content. And the timing of them removing it after the rewind debacle just reads as them being unable to take criticism and feedback and throwing a tantrum.
like literally what could be the reason for taking the dislike button away? i never understood why they did that. if people don't like a video, they don't like it, hiding the stats isn't changing that.
@@coriswrld2122 Big corporations on YT don't want others seeing people disliking their videos or product. What it is is corporate monopolization on free thought. They're trying to limit it and FORCE you to like their product. They DON'T believe in a free market. It's greed

I fully agree that there isn't much inter-department communication. I'm not big enough for my own rep, but I do have access to partner chat support, and there has been many instance where I'll fire up chat to ask a specific question, get an answer. Then the next day, hit up chat and ask the exact same question, and get a completely different answer. When it's a question that affects monetization and discoverability, it's important to get a straight answer. But I find I get different answers depending on the person.
UA-cam really needs an adults only version and advertisers need to stop shying away from adult oriented channels because at the end of the day, it’s adults who buy their products. Not children. That way there will be no age restriction and no more worry about being demonitized
The same way they have 'kids' content, the same should be done for adult-orientated content. There are advertisers that are definitely willing to cater to adult channels, and honestly, those ads would fit a lot better and make me actually buy lol
@@Alicewatcheseverything No, but they tend to expect minors to show up there. In that case, I wonder why they won't just make a "UA-cam teens" version, seeing as it's illogical to set the necessary age to make an account on UA-cam to 13+. Like you can't seriously believe children 13+ should be on the same site as adults of all ages. Which is proven even more from the massive amount of pedophelia, child exploitation and the endangerment or Sexual exploitation of minors that occurs on UA-cam. They need to decide if they actually want to protect minors or not cause so far, they're doing a horrible job at it (like not kicking the people who are known predators off this site).
or just make age restrictions just only effect who can view it so basically the video will not show up if you don't have a (insert vague age) account you cant access it no problem with ads or fucking TELL THE UA-camR WHAT IS SO TRIGGERING ABOUT THE VIDEO and if UA-cam made a "UA-cam adults" it most certainly wont get nearly any monetization or they will just flat out make it ad-fest. that or make UA-cam kids have actually good content
Weird for UA-cam to take such a defensive stance on this, only pushing their most successful creators away. This is how a company destroys itself. If somebody created a better video sharing platform, I would happily follow everyone to it.
@@MegaAce042 Seriously, if they just started posting to Rumble as well as UA-cam, there might be some change. But they won't. Either because they have a deal with YT, or think alternative sites are for the "alt-right". Or both.
Honestly, I think removing dislikes is also an issue. Of course some people just hate change and that's their only gripe. But many of us use the ratio to determine if the information given is actually good (think tutorials, diy's, advice, etc). But apart from all that, I think it sort of adds to the feeling most of us viewers have: UA-cam does not care what we want. They just want money. There are other issues that have caused problems for us viewers, like UA-cam Kids. It should not be affecting MY side of the platform. (And it is quite poorly maintained, it seems to be an automatic systems aswell). And, to add creators into it, they can't remove that tag. There are way too many videos I've come across that get snagged by UA-cam Kids that are absolutely NOT child friendly lol Basically, I think they need to at least acknowledge our frustration. Because ignoring adds to the feeling above that they just don't care.
The youtube kids also annoys me so much. Everytime I just want to comment on a random video or add it to a playlist I just cant because it's "its for kids"
It’s honestly wild the amount of porn or “soft” porn that is allowed on UA-cam that does not get flagged or considered at all But genuine wholesome gamers are what UA-cam is worried about??

"to some people this will just sound like complaining" it's a perfectly valid thing to complain about though, this kind of behavior on youtube's part is fully unacceptable
Hey jackey boy, I know what it's like to be stressing about youtube and making a audience happy and the youtube situation, but US subscribers are happy about your content and making us laugh all these years Sean, so thank you for the years friend
Hate speech should not be a reason to punish, penalize, and should not be a reason silence someone in any way. And UA-cam should not determine what hate speech is and what misinformation is. Change My Mind.
Honestly, one thing they could do is add a UA-cam employee ID number to the flag saying “hey, this is the person who reviewed it.” They don’t need to include the real name of the person, just a way to find out if someone different or a bot is re-reviewing it. Could also help on UA-cam’s end by allowing them to identify rouge employees who are flagging stuff that doesn’t deserve to be flagged.
UA-cam would never, ever reveal that 90+% of their system is run by algorithms and bots The template emails are super obvious, but youtube wouldn't explicitly say "this is an automated email, you have not reached a human employee yet"
@@dannyramirez3875 Exactly, it's probably the same type of thing as using whiteout on a physical form that's being handed to someone without the same clearance as someone with.
I don’t understand why UA-cam feels the need to keep everything so secret from their creators. Why keep them in the dark? Do they think it’ll make them look bad in some way? If that’s the case, then it might be even more pressing to talk about if their trying to sweep their broken system under the rug.
I worked in a corporation before and based on Sean's video, I think it's the same at YT - in my case it was because policies were changing constantly in my department. It felt "reactive" because a problem would come up, we'd change the policy, another problem would come up, we'd change it again, etc. Sean mentioned that the swearing was a big deal and then now it's not because they've worked out how to separate it from hate speech, so that indicates to me that things are always shifting in the background too. As for the communication problems between departments, we'd have that too because it was difficult to inform everyone of everything all at once as we all had our own problems. Not defending YT at all here because there definitely is favoritism and possibly racism happening (as of writing this, Mark's Orc Massage video hasn't been age restricted), but rather I'm stating that this problem in corporations and big companies needs to be resolved - especially as YT is a huge platform with the budget for a problem solving team.
They don't want to make rules and guidelines crystal clear because it gives them a massive amount of wiggle room to do whatever they want on any given day. It is a gross and insanely anti consumer friendly tactic a ton of corporations employ intentionally.
thank you for bringing this up it's clear that Jack doesn't have to do all this but he still does, because he remembers old youtube that was based on a sense of community
youtubes entire business model is to cover their ears yelling “LALALALALA” while making changes that no one asked for and ignoring the major changes that actually need to be made
Sounds like the way some people choose to parent ignore the problem hoping it will all go away at some point punishing everyone else who either doesn't agree with them or gets in their way.
The fact they claim "we've looked over the content" is always laughable. No, having your algorithm and bots "Checking" content is not looking at it. It comes down to UA-cam just doesn't want to put any effort into making the platform better. It makes money, so long as it does that, they won't care. Which is sad, as all it does is hurt the creators doing their best to play by the rules.

Honestly… UA-cam, Twitch, and all these other Social Media Companies are getting worse and worse by day, especially on Content Creators/Streamers, I feel really bad for those who got disturbed by this, and I’m happy a lot of people are spilling truth about this, after Cory addressed this issue going on, on UA-cam.
removal of dislikes? stricter policies for child suitability, causing majority if not all to suffer? susan being hired? it was way too soon to say its valid buddy, it all started when susan came in (not including the ad skip monetization she implemented)
Lemme summarize the whole thing for you: "Manually" reviewed, meaning, ain't nobody actually manually reviewing ANYTHING. It's all done by bots unless you make an absolute mess, something big enough to get their attention on twitter or on youtube itself, that's it, no mystery, no complexity, only deception and people who are innocent enough to believe the whole thing isn't being handle by bots.
I guarantee at least some of is in some way manually reviewed, I used to do so. Now I have no idea the specifics of how or why we had to review what we did, but there are manual review processes in places for sure.
Ive heard from people that its not a bot but its a clip sent to their people. UA-cam doesnt force their workers to sit down and watch a 2 hr long video when theres only 30 seconds of it thats being brought into question. Which is understandable because thats ineffecient as all hell and youtube is already really damn slow with some stuff. Just imagine it like when you look up something on google and it gives you the "start of suggested clip" option for the video instead of forcing you to watch the whole video. Thats what the manual reviewers get, a short clip taken out of context then they get asked wether the video should be demonetized or simply waved by and given the all clear.
This is such a well-articulated response to the whole situation. I'm glad that Sean is talking to YT about the problems and offering solutions, and I'm really grateful to have creators like him that can communicate effectively to their audience. Really great video!

Sean, I hope you''re having a good break, for whatever reason you need to take one, we miss you but we understand and hope to watch more of your amazing content soon. My kids and I love watching you together and we always have a blast and laugh so much.
The way Sean is dealing with this is very professional and the fact that he's not throwing a hissy fit about it is very admirable, hopefully this can be addressed quickly.
I am going to play devil's advocate here. I really wish Sean and all the other content creators would realize they have no idea how the UA-cam algorithm works and are only upset of situation without providing answers to the problem. THAT ISN'T HELPFUL. I can appreciate their flight without putting my two cents in on the matter. (If that makes sense) we all understand that the algorithm is broken but just because one content creator claims racism is a factor *now we have a problem*. To me it feels like clickbait and wrong. Obviously drawing more attention from creators audiences to the issue isn't fixing the problem. _Because this isn't a new problem._ all this does is make UA-cam PR quell the disaster then pretend like nothing happened until the next news cycle.
I'm writing this Hoping my feedback gets to UA-cam through you Jack: 1. Get them to at least tell the creators what's wrong with their videos before flagging them. 2. Give creators 12 hours to remove whatever's wrong with the video before removing or striking it down themselves. 3. Make sure to hire manual reviewers that can at least follow the guidelines competently. 4. Make sure to PROPERLY CHECK if a video violates copyright or community guidelines before taking action. So that we don't have cases of channels being deleted, Large streamers like LoFi girl losing her stream over false copyright claims and creators like MxR crying on their channels out of fear that their entire livelihood might get deleted. 5. Make sure your recommended only features ONE video PER CHANNEL. So that there could be more diversity. I don't wanna log out of my Google account and see 7 videos from Mr. Beast and Sniperwolf on there. I want more creators to be featured on the recommended tab. 6. Don't put ad restrictions on a creator's video when he/she calls you out for your BS. It doesn't do you any good.
I can’t even tell you that YT is engaging in authoritarian tactics like those in other countries like Russia and China without them booting my comments.
I appreciate your suggestions, as an influencer you hold a certain responsibility in leadership. As a leader, in nursing I have been taught to advocate by brining attention to the problem and always having 2 solutions. Your communication solution is solid, there needs to be full disclosure between all departments. Each UA-cam rep should have a response from every department and ultimately a solution that was voted on deemed worthy. Nice to know big UA-cam influences, like you care about the growing and coming up influencers, all UA-cam influences should be treated with equality, regardless of status, and all rules should be consistent. As always, love your videos and thank you for being you💜😊
i just love how sean's video was "not suitable" for ads, yet the ads i see on this platform are borderline suggestive half the time double standards are insane
@I love you!! SaberSpark actually made a point about those types of Ads in one of his Videos! Even questioning UA-cam how those Ads are ok when they restrict that sort in videos.
UA-cam has been too comfortable for too long. They expect creators, even massive creators, to just accept their arbitrary, inconsistent, completely opaque policies which affect their livelihoods without question. And it's been this way for the longest time. To this day, they refuse to reinstate the public dislike count despite very valid feedback that this feature could mean the difference between life and death for certain DIY or health related content. They're so complacent and arrogant. The second, the very second, a viable competitor comes up, many creators will be gone and take their fanbases with them. The issue is, they remain convinced that day will never come.
Such as being able to distinguish if the dislikes were due to bad content that shouldn't be allowed to stay on the platform, versus people disliking just because they might disagree with the peronality or attitude of the person delivering the content, like ER Doctor vs Doctor Mike. Edited to say neither has bad content, but do have different personalities.
It's the same way with Twitch. Lack of consistency and transparency with their ToS and moderation. Honestly I give it 5 years or less before YT (and especially Twitch) to fully implode if things don't drastically change soon. These biggest creators/streamers are multi-millionaires and if they banded together they could easily make their own platforms to replace Twitch and YT and the reality is, their audiences will follow because their loyalty is to the people that entertain them, not the corporation that provides the website to click on. Especially not when those corporations are actively hindering the content that entertains us.
The fact Sean managed to keep calm and get his message across in a professional manner just shows how great he is at handling these types of situations
So I did a little digging and I found out that the UA-cam game on was illegal because there was a segment where two of Trevor Henderson creations fight huggy wuggy and the among imposter, so I searched it up and Trevor’s monsters are not copyrighted but the imposter and huggy wuggy are copyrighted so , that’s not good ,also at the end of it I got really Annoyed because the big finally had Bella porch who is mainly a tik-toker and they cut markiplier’s section out, this just brings up another point with UA-cam, marketing toward celebrity’s , a good example is UA-cam rewind 2018 with a a lot of celebs featuring in that. It was striked and taken down mid livestream. I tried to appeal knowing full well I was no where near breaking guidelines, rejected. Reached out again, appealed again. Rejected. 3rd time was a charm because I knew 100%. I. Did. NOTHING. Wrong. I had to involve other people who do the same content, and use them to help my case. Bring up old false strikes, old videos, full detail of everything. Green-flagged, strike appealed, able to upload. It was the most stupidest strike appeal I have ever had to go through. It took just over 3 days. False warning/Bot striked me 2 humans declined my appeal 1 human appealed
You did the right thing. Handled it in house by involving other people who create the same or similar content. Complaining about it to millions who don't actually get it won't help
Nth proof that algorhythms need to be monitored and the guy the programmer shows it at should know what they are looking at (very unlikely), that people at the YT HQ don't talk to each other and ultimately that some people are more bots than bots.
This happened to me only after a video was uploaded live. Then I appealed and waited a month or so until it fell off. The funny thing is: i don’t have enough subs to even reach monetization. 😂 *wheeze* I also didnt want a dumb ad running in the video for some random copystrike company to earn a profit.
I'm guessing jack is really preparing for his 5000 video which is insane to thing about and I'm so glad I got to be apart of this amazing journey of his and I cant wait for to hopefully continue for ever!

UA-cams issue with greenlighting a video and than flagging it again and again is very big. I had this exact issue happen 4 TIMES for one video and the final time it was flagged, they refused to look at again and re-monetize it.
My love for you has outlasted 2 devices, 3 acounts and almost 8 years of my 15 year old life and I to this day will support as much as I can. We will follow you to the ends of the earth, we all love you and your content.
Hate speech should not be a reason to punish, penalize, and should not be a reason silence someone in any way. And UA-cam should not determine what hate speech is and what misinformation is. Change My Mind.
As a person who works customer support, I can tell you exactly what is going on with the consecutive manual reviews getting different decisions. The team handling this has only vague standards to follow and a lot of it is left to the interpretation of individual agents. Also the different instances of manual review were being handled by different agents. Some try to stay overly cautious, some are more lenient. And no - no team that works in that field calls a meeting for every case where it's unclear how to interpret the content. If they acted that way, nothing would get done and they would do nothing but have these meetings. The problems arise from the following: 1) Apparently YT has no system in place that would allow agents to see if a manual review was already done - as a result they double or maybe even triple their workload, because videos get manually reviewed multiple times - that's poor organization and a waste of time, in a situation where YT already claims it's impossible to hire enough people to manually review everything. 2) Big youtubers get preferrential treatment. That is a fact. When a small youtuber uploads something even a little leaning toward the boundries of appropriate content, the bots strike the video down. When a big channel does something straight-up inappropriate, the bots don't even touch that, so the worst case scenario is when somebody bothers to manually review the content. This is evidence that the algorythms have exceptions coded in them for some channels. This only increases the inconsistency, and therefore the problem
Ya know I kinda thought this, and it's sad how spot on my guess was. I know this would take years to probably fix but looks like UA-cam needs an overhaul in reorganization and recode on bots
@@mariaarakat8823 I guess I should add that I do not work for YT or Google. But I do know the inside of customer support pretty well. However, the thing that really stuns me about this is the preferential treatment. I mean, how many times did letting things slide by default for big youtubers bite YT in the ass HARD? Call me old, but I still remember the Logan Paul in the Japanese suicide forrest thing and how roayally that screwed over most channels and YT themselves. Yet they learned nothing... and that wasn't the first or last time something like that happened...
Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose from the dead, and gives salvation to everyone who has faith in him. True faith in Jesus will have you bear good fruit and *drastically* change for the better! Those led by the Holy Spirit do not abide in wickedness. God is three in one; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Bless him! As I am led by the Holy Spirit, nothing I state is a lie, but the truth of God. Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed or a liar. They do not know God, nor led by him. Anyone who *claims* to be a Christian and is against what I am doing, for any reason; the Holy Spirit does not dwell within them. They know not God, read his word, and their religion is in vain. Do not hear them, they will mislead you, the lost cannot guide the lost.
When you trust in God and cast your cares (worries, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts) upon him, they will be NO MORE! Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals! The world is wicked, evil, and of the devil. I too, was a wicked sinner of the world before I opened my heart to God. I am living proof of God's work and fruitfulness! He is an active God who hears the prayers of his! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous. The devil is a liar that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy; that includes your relationship with God.
I agree with what Jack says. I think having a "stare decisis" on top could be really helpful too. One where reviewers are able to see previous flags and unflags on the same video, as well as flags and unflags on similar videos (such as different youtubers who are playing the same game) and use that to influence their decision (I dont know exactly how the review system works but it seems like it isnt much like that as of now)
definitely agree when you said “this seems like a trend that might die off quickly.” us, the viewers who aren’t really affected by these issues, require you guys/the creators to talk about them and keep the traction going and start new conversations about the issue. honestly i wish there was more we could do aside from give youtube’s problem the spotlight (example this vid is #1 trending), thank you for making this follow-up sean! i definitely think it’s all an issue with communication. youtube could do better if they just tried.
And no one mentions The Act Man. He did a video that technically "exposed" how abusable the system is and how they fall short on many of their own rules. It really did look bad for UA-cam, and what did they do? They demonitized his channel, banished him to oblivion, and and made him delete the video. It's clear that they did that to him because of what he's done. It looked damaging towards their image. The Act Man is the most real case that no one talks about. Now he's really scared of saying anything.
i had never heard of this guy, neither had any of my co workers and were on UA-cam quit a bit. I understand he has a lot of subscribers but even still. all of sudden hes on almost ALL of feeds starting yesterday . im wondering why UA-cam would frontpage this. seems kind sus
UA-cam's lack of transparency with why they made these weird, anti-creator decisions is one of the most baffling things about this whole situation. I really hope that this current wave of criticism doesn't slow down or stop like every previous wave
UA-cam really won't change unless it's a "serious problem" according to them. It sucks that youtubers are the ones who are suffering. They are the one who keep people on their platform. UA-cam needs competition according to me. But no one will go against youtube who have already invested billions in their infrastructure.
They got bought by Google and get billions from corporate press. As far as creators are concerned, it's a "what have you done for me recently" situation.
The fact that Jack continues to use his platform to talk about these issues speaks volumes about the kind of creator he is. Thank you for always seeking accountability, we love you💚
As an audience, I know most (if not all) of us stand with creators. We can and will continue clicking, watching, & keep this in the limelight. Fight the power, guys.
If you're still feeling kinda down I recommend playing the preview of slime rancher 2. You don't have to record it if you don't want to, the game made me smile so I hope it makes you smile too
So with Ethan's 10 year anniversary (this is according to his Twitter). He uploaded it and it was flagged as inappropriate 8 minutes later, and said it was manually checked, despite being 2 HOURS LONG, which physically couldn't have been checked all the way through in that time. This means one of a few options. The first is the flagger saw something fairly bad in the first few minutes and just flagged it. The 2nd more likely option that might fit for your case is that it *wasn't actually manually flagged.* It's not unreasonable the same system keeps checking the same person and then changed its result based on some random variable or just skips 'previously checked' segments, resulting in false positives. Either way it's a weird occurrence that stands out in the light of this and makes it feel like people actually aren't even checking anything anymore.
for one, means its being managed by people that is only working for themselves and not for the community for other, means they arent caring enough to be clear of the system and leaving to automatic response either way, its just bad rep that would need to be solved internally first so the rest to fall in the right place
I've had a video uploaded awhile back which got striked within minutes of posting it. The funny thing is that I know it wasn't reviewed by a person, seeing as the video was flagged within the first few minutes and there wasn't anything in it copyrighted or breaking the guidelines and said video was longer then 10 mins. I've since not bothered uploading anything after that: Why bother trying to post videos if they're not even going to review it themselves but instead rely on an algorithm/system that's already incredibly flawed.
"UA-cam doesn't want it's creators to fail." They sure have a funny way of showing it. They actively go out of their way to impede a lot of creators I follow when they try to fight false copyright claims. I have personally seen the emails of UA-cam outright denying to send counter claims to the claimants because the channel did not prove fair use or that they owned the content in question. And I have personally seen channels GO DOWN because of this crap from UA-cam. Tbh I absolutely hate UA-cam The company, and they have no reason to improve because they're the only kid on the block. We need a genuine competitor to force UA-cam to actually make meaningful changes in favor of EVERY creator BIG or SMALL.
The sad thing is that if a genuine YT competitor gets extremely large themselves, they may start having the same problems as YT itself. Companies that get too big are bound to have a lot of issues that won't get resolved if it doesn't impact their revenue.
I miss when creators were actually allowed to be themselves and didn’t have to be extremely cautious when uploading a video. I feel like UA-cam is stealing their personalities.
I agree the age restrictions, monetization and demonetization, copyright systems need to be fixed. I want to monetize my videos but I don’t want to take the risk of UA-cam interfering with my videos even though I swore like two times or showed a little bit of gore (keyword is “little bit”) in my videos and stuff
@@TheFunnyGuy9000 yeah the copy right systems make no sense at all. You can upload an hour long video and have a song playing just for 10 seconds in game and they'll copy right it and give the person that made the song money from your video even though their song was only in the video for 10 seconds out of a 60 minute video and for some reason they basically own the rights to it. If I make an hour long video and a song pops up in the game for a second I shouldn't have to owe the artist anything cause I did all the editing, I played the game. I gave all the commentary but if their song comes on for a minute they get to take all the money from the video, leaving the person THAT ACTUALLY CREATED THE VIDEO with nothing, fucking ridiculous if you ask me.
You know, if you check his video count…you’d see that he’s very close to his 5,000 video. I think he’s trying to prepare for it. Personally, since he’s been talking about his I.R.I.S a lot I think he’s trying to finish that to be his 5,000 video. I could be wrong, it just feels connected. Plus, I know that if something was wrong with his personal life, he would tell us.
I see a lot of people saying "this is UA-cam's downfall" and honestly, it shouldn't be. It should be catalyst for change. UA-cam has honestly hundreds of thousands of videos uploaded PER DAY on this platform. They cannot get a person to look at all of this stuff that happens. They use poorly functioning bots and an inconsistent algorithm to cover the gaps. What they need to do is fix their systems, improve their communication between departments, upgrade these bots, be consistent with what they do and just be honest with the community. This is NOT that hard to do honestly. Talk, that's it. That's all. Communication, consistency, and honesty. They absolutely have the resources to improve these things, they are not hurting for money. They need to put the resources in to actually do it
Problem is youtube has to not only keep its community happy but also it investors and advertisers. Which almost want the opposite. Community wants pure creativity without censor and the investors want clean content they can put their face on.
And they won’t. If UA-cam knew that their systems were broken, they would’ve fixed it AGES AGO! Being a catalyst for change or no, UA-cam’ chances to turn back the clock are very slim & UA-cam’s chances to turn back the clock have already been used up. They’ve had their chance while they still could, and yet they chose to slack off & ignore all these lingering problems. I highly doubt UA-cam will ever make up for all the damage they’ve caused, because they’ve screwed it up again & again!
The whole "departments/people in a company not talking to each other" seems to be a trend in companies recently. At my current workplace, we've been blindsided by something going on in other departments a few times in the year that I've been there, and there's a very strong feeling of not really knowing what's going on in general because the communication is practically nonexistent
Yeah, but as it is in my workplace, it's more the problem of the workload becoming so much that it's pretty much impossible to meaningfully communicate and as far as I'm aware, that's the main issue with youtube, that so much watch time is being produced each day, that it can't be efficiently and meaningfully processed on any human timescale
Exactly its been that way for quite awhile since where I personally worked since covid and other occupations such as housing market as well, theres alot of slower down lack of talking about certain issues and slower human forwardness really since companies are rather focused on the marketing advertisments for investers rather than the communities and workers nowadays, we need a better support dynamic for these issues
I know this is a bit of a tangent, but I still think they should bring back the like-dislike ratio bar, because despite the abuse that happens to some channels, that bar is also very good for determining the value of videos pertaining to be informative. It's not good that fake DIY videos, like 5-minute crafts are able to circulate without that clear indicator of false information. It's better to have a ratio that is somewhat reliable than none at all.
there are browser extensions that still let it display, i can see it even now. Whether they'll work forever, I don't know, but at least they're stable now.
Here is another infuriating change that I haven't seen anyone talking about. Probably because so far I have oy experienced in on pc youtube. They are getting rid of the "skip ads" button. Now it is "skip ad" and you have to skip twice, every time a 2 ad pairing pops up. So now instead of waiting for 5 seconds to get to your video you must wait for ten seconds.
When Jacksepticeye talked about how making videos doesn't seem as fun due to the restrictions and than goes on 3 week break, I find it a little heartbreaking I hope youtube can fix these problems soon.
@@littlefluffyduckling8380 To be honest it's actually pretty smart. UA-cam benefits a lot financially from popular youtubers and people like Sean make a massive impact if they'd suddenly stop their work. I hope they recognize the issues. We all know they won't, or at least to a minimum and only temporary though.
The inconsistency is a big problem for me, and that goes for youtube and also tik tok. (im sure theres others as well) But from my experience with tik tok has been so similar to this. a vid gets taken down, for 1 reason, i appeal it and then it gets denied, but then ill post another video itll get taken down for the same reason, and then this time my appeal gets accepted. its inconsistent and i feel that UA-cam is also that way for MANY creators
UA-cam needs a "board of creators" who are actually large content creators who actually know what it's like to create videos and be a part of the community, but they also work at UA-cam and can help the company make the best possible desicions for creators as well as viewers with their unique perspective
Issue there is if they are only large creators then many will have been in it for years and can no longer really speak about how it is effecting newer creators. So better a rotating board of users chosen at semi random for a monthly discussion about changes and issues. Grab old established channels and newer ones.
@@spartanonxy Honestly, compared to the current status quo, I still feel it would be an improvement over the current system. UA-cam's own employees don't seem to understand how to run a youtube channel. At least big creators would bring some perspective. It's like when you see games and ask, "Did the developers even play this themselves?" and then taking feedback from large streamers. Sure, it's not the grassroots audience, but it's better than nothing.
I would recommend this book "Behind the Screen" by Sarah T. Roberts. It handles the issue of exploited workers working behind the screen in big media companies and dives deeper into why the restrictions can be so inconsistent.
And yet people can literally post p0rn pics and innuendo's and risque things on non age restricted videos and UA-cam dont do anything about it Its so inconsistent, it feels like the contents life is based on sheer luck, regardless if the rules are broken or not
@@Cruddy129 I wouldn’t be surprised if people at UA-cam are just flipping a coin “hey brad did the results from *insert channel name here*’s bot check come back?” “I’ll do that right now *flips a quarter* it’s demonetized”
@@OfficialIfunny I think it used to say page, but maybe the comment itself got report for spam to automatically delete them so changed it to "paige" to bypass. It's just a theory.
The fact that Jack talked about how people lose their passion and drive to make videos because of UA-cam’s flaws and he stops posting for a while is so sad to me.
@Jack Wrath you’ve commented this more than 66 times, please go get a job or hobby. the discussion everyone’s having right now is much more dire and important than “LuL, mY cOnTenT is BeTTeR!1!!1”
The irony that they removed the dislike button from the platform to prevent creators from getting bullied just to have them get bullied by the platform itself.
I see a lot of comments still just making up all kinds of stuff as an excise to just be mad at youtube, which again doesnt help the problems.
Im all for fighting back when it’s needed but just making stuff up to be mad doesnt solve anything. They wont listen then.

I just clicked this video

Akright
Ey just saw the video
I think the record ping-pong I had on a video was
- green by bots
- yellow by bots
- green by manual review
- age-gated by manual review
- restored to green by manual review
I don't mind things that are on the edge of "inapproperiate" to get demonetized or gated when it crosses a line. But it's so inconsistent that the "line" just feels random at times
i think possibly there is a bit of missing communication (that or opinions on the matter) about what is acceptable, but keep up your good work you are very entertaining.
that’s crazy - must make people who make a living off of UA-cam feel so vulnerable on the platform :/
Let’s hope that someone will see all the videos coming out and bring about some change in the way UA-cam functions. Wishing you the best Click 👍
CLICKYYYY

It hurts 😮💨

Hello, sosig man
I remember when Susan said "UA-cam can only succeed, if it's creators succeed". I think the higher-ups at UA-cam and Google have forgotten that motto.
They've already succeeded and don't necessarily need to keep us happy it seems
Forgotten or just stopped giving a shit. Sure the content creators are their bread and butter but advertisers and investors bring in even more revenue...when money talks, bullshit walks.
indeed, theres no need for more word then this
I doubt this will get read, but their lack of transparency exists for a couple reasons.

UA-cam is literally digging themselves a hole and when people start to find out what they’re doing, they try to act like they didn’t dig the hole

Age restricting videos because they're deemed to mature for advertisers while running ads that are way more sexual than the videos they're restricting.

The same way they have 'kids' content, the same should be done for adult-orientated content. There are advertisers that are definitely willing to cater to adult channels, and honestly, those ads would fit a lot better and make me actually buy lol

100% this.

Ive heard from people that its not a bot but its a clip sent to their people. UA-cam doesnt force their workers to sit down and watch a 2 hr long video when theres only 30 seconds of it thats being brought into question. Just imagine it like when you look up something on google and it gives you the "start of suggested clip" option for the video instead of forcing you to watch the whole video.
First Video when you type 'Bikini Try On' has nudity yet is a video thats been up longer than this whole mess. :)

Change My Mind.
it's interesting to see how it only takes 1 person to start an avalanche of change. first Cory, now everyone else.

Jack has talked about problems in youtube for years to be fair.
The problems arise from the following:
1) Apparently YT has no system in place that would allow agents to see if a manual review was already done - as a result they double or maybe even triple their workload, because videos get manually reviewed multiple times - that's poor organization and a waste of time, in a situation where YT already claims it's impossible to hire enough people to manually review everything.
This is also exactly how unseen bias happens. It's a fine line to walk, and nobody ends up happy in the end.

Watch Business Casuals video about yt not sticking to their 3 strickes policy and lawsuit against them!
for one, means its being managed by people that is only working for themselves and not for the community
for other, means they arent caring enough to be clear of the system and leaving to automatic response
either way, its just bad rep that would need to be solved internally first so the rest to fall in the right place
They should I don't know change the leadership of UA-cam for more freedom or return what make UA-cam great like previous years.
literally. well said 👏
The sad thing is that if a genuine YT competitor gets extremely large themselves, they may start having the same problems as YT itself. Companies that get too big are bound to have a lot of issues that won't get resolved if it doesn't impact their revenue.
That's not true. They allow "dick or dildo" videos to thrive!

I miss when creators were actually allowed to be themselves and didn’t have to be extremely cautious when uploading a video. I feel like UA-cam is stealing their personalities.

I'm better than jack lmao
It’s like twitch only banning the partners for a small fraction of the time compared to a smaller creator getting banned
@@SpicyPunkRockerOfficial were they good?

They won’t because all they care about now is money, removing the dislike count was the move that confirmed the assumptions
there are browser extensions that still let it display, i can see it even now.

UA-cam needs a "board of creators" who are actually large content creators who actually know what it's like to create videos and be a part of the community, but they also work at UA-cam and can help the company make the best possible desicions for creators as well as viewers with their unique perspective
Oh my God that's genius that should definitely happen they probably won't but I hope that happens
Issue there is if they are only large creators then many will have been in it for years and can no longer really speak about how it is effecting newer creators. So better a rotating board of users chosen at semi random for a monthly discussion about changes and issues. Grab old established channels and newer ones.
