    My first impression review of the Schott Peacoat model 740.
    Robust, warm, surprisingly dressy. Make sure to size down!

    Good point about the usage of the buttons. Think I’d take it in brand new & get a tailor to strengthen those bad boys LOCKED down. Eternally classic that will never go out of style.

    I've been searching for a new peacoat. I'm considering ordering one from Schott, so thank you for mentioning the sizing options. Also, Thank you for your videos, you always give me ideas on how to dress my Schott leather jackets. Keep on Rocking!

      Thanks man! Leather jackets are definitely more my comfort zone but I’m in the market for something warmer than what I’ve currently got for work

    Looks like a pretty good fit on you, maybe just have the sleeves shortened a bit. I have a vintage 80s navy officer peacoat and its one of my favorite coats to wear apart from a leather jacket

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  5 місяців тому +2

      Yeah the sleeves are swallowing my hands a bit. If I keep will probably get them taken in as you suggest!

    Hey also an interesting coat. I remember having worn a comparable coat somewhere, when I was in my late teenage years in the 1970-ies. This coat was called a caban, as far I remember, and looking at it, takes me somehow way back to the 1970-ies. I am actually surprised how wide the range of different clothing from the company Schott is.
    Thanks for your presentation and stay safe, peace and kindest regards.

      Yeah just looked it up, Caban is similarly large coat with single line of buttons. I will try this style again but in a smaller size

    Great review! Thank you!
    It’s a great looking peacoat and looks heavy and very warmth. Moreover, the fact that’s made in the US and less than $400, I think it’s a great deal! I bought the Slim Fit style at Nordstrom for $500+ and I can tell you: it’s very warm. I wear it when I dress up for business casual.

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  5 місяців тому

      Yes it seems well-suited for that kind of use! Perhaps the slim fit would work better for me?

      You know, I bought that in Medium but it was a little too tight at my armpits, restricting comfortable movement - you definitely know what I am talking about because I’ve seen a few videos where you’ve addressed that fitting issue. Anyway, no, I don’t think you should. In my humble opinion, I would keep the one you have here but adjust the sleeves to your size.
      Greetings! Thanks for sharing your opinion on cool coats and jackets.

    I think it fits amazingly except the sleeves, they just seem a touch long. But it's a lovely jacket

    Had a surplus peacoat when I was just a sprout but since our fall and spring are fleeting around here (which I think would suit it best) I moved it on after the winter, not nearly warm enough for our arctic blasts.

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  5 місяців тому +3

      For us the winter very often has warm fronts rolling through, today was over 70F! So the heaviest winter gear would be wasted on me

    I actually sized down 2 sizes to a 34. Ive got 18" shoulders and a 40" chest - it looks pretty well tailored with light wool layers, but its tight with chunky sweaters.

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah I think sizing down two makes more sense for me as well, I don’t need the space for multiple or heavy layering

      @@DudsByDel I see your point, but I do sometimes regret not getting a 36! Something about a peacoat that fits too slim doesnt sit right with me. I've served in the airforce previously, and a big part of surplus/military gear is that they look worn in or effortlessly cool. Maybe a 36 might be better!

  • @IJusaI
    @IJusaI 2 місяці тому +1

    What sort of shoulder measurement do you usually wear on leather jackets? I'm trying to figure out if a 38 would be too tight on the shoulders for me on this 740N.

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  2 місяці тому +1

      Around 18” give or take. Ultimately I think I’d go down to a 36 for this coat, I normally take a 40

    Hello, thanks for getting back to me. So if i'am normally a2 XL You think i should go up to a 3 xl?

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  4 місяці тому +1

      No prob! It’s the other way. If you’re a 2 XL I’d suggest getting XL for a roomy fit or a L for a slimmer fit.
      This is all specific to this particular model from Schott, the 740.
      Speaking of which if you do buy from Schott I’d appreciate if you follow the link in this video description, I get a small commission.

    I have this in size 40, and probably could do with a size 38. The sleeves for me are just right because I’m a taller guy with longer arms. Regardless this is a great beater for 40*F weather. It’s not really that warm compared to down parkas unless you wear a ton of inner layers.

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  5 місяців тому

      It’s warmer than my Rothco M65. Maybe warmer than my Pendleton wool coat, maybe not. No surprise the down parka beats it but nice to hear it confirmed. I live in south louisiana so we don’t get super cold here

    Hi Del, today I’m wearing my schott 140 leather peacoat. Normally my size is 40, but for schott 140 leather peacoat, 36 fit me but the sleeves are a bit short. I suggest you to try 140 leather peacoat which is one of my favorite leather jacket.

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  5 місяців тому

      Nice may have to do just that. At the very least gives the hint that a 36 may fit me better in this style 🤔

    • @rickhunter6667
      @rickhunter6667 5 місяців тому +2

      @@DudsByDel I bought three of them , they are all second hand. Initially I bought 40, it looks like a sleeping bag on me, then I bought second one which was 38, still pretty loose on me, the reason I didn’t buy 36 at second time is because I’m 5’11 and I never thought that I would fit any jacket on size 36, but this one is an exception. Finally I bought 36, it fit me good only the sleeves are a bit shorter. So if you are not extremely tall, I highly recommend down two size for schott peacoat. Terrible experience, I have to get rid of size 40, I may keep 38, because I can layer more clothes underneath.

    Can you compare this to Buzz Rickson?

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  5 місяців тому

      Unlikely to do a video comparison but I checked out their description. The Buzz Rickson one is heavier (4oz heavier wool) and has some different trim like corduroy lined pockets and period correct buttons. It’s also a trimmer fit. You could probably take your normal tag size in it rather than sizing down. This is for the 1910 model, there are a few others.

    I'm a fan of Schott but I'm not aware of any substantial improvements this $380 coat incorporates over a standard vintage military coat easily found for under $100. I have two. Neither was stiff. Honestly it seems a frivolous purchase.FWIW both my peacoats are 38 , my regular size, and fit true to size.

    • @DudsByDel
      @DudsByDel  5 місяців тому +1

      Hey Jeff. Your argument holds across the spectrum when arguing for buying used versus new. I’m a fan of buying used and all of my non-custom leather jackets for example are used (I even made a video about it! Perhaps should return to the subject though)
      I have only the one experience buying a vintage peacoat and it was very stiff. So much so that it left red marks against my neck where the collar rubbed against it.
      Because the price for used fluctuates depending on the item condition, seller, and your patience, I typically reference retail prices for ease of comparison.

    Hey UA-camr very good job on the content. About the jacket 🧥 a peace of art for the price of the quality of this cloth. For bein a Navy sailor service jacket it looks fenomenal. I wish you could have tried the longer version as well. Anyways what do you think about the 140 Leather Naval Pea Coat ? You think is better than 740 ... I think leather wins it but the 740 since is %80 Wool and %20 Nylon Blend in this case is more warmer than the 140. That's my conclusion. I just wanna hear you out before I buyo mines . Leather or Wool Nylon .
    Keep your videos going on..

      Hey man thanks for stopping by. I have been in the market for a warmer coat which is why I checked out this wool Peacoat rather than the leather one. Have not seen that many folks rocking the leather Peacoat so it feels hard to form an opinion on the look. Have seen some longer coats look pretty cool from Thedi leathers, so I know it’s possible. Just not sure. Would like to get my hands on a p613s at some point, it does indeed look nice
