    Great no BS review
I would wrap the trailing arms in denzo tape for protection
A lot of new canopies are over engineered and too heavy
Bull are making some great canopies after building them for tradies for years they have made all the mistakes
Can’t beat a solid stainless water tank the water tastes the way it should

Great review. I especially liked your honesty about the MCC bull bar which I was sceptical about thinking they looked too cheap. It confirmed everything I thought may be an issue. Just last weekend I fitted a new ARB bar and winch which from others I know will go the distance. Impressed with your wrap of the van which I suppose says that MDC must apply tight controls on the manufacture of them. As expected there are going to be compromises but it looks the biz. 👍🏻

Another great vid! It is always interesting to see what fails and what holds up with different vans/gear and you guys certainly have not kept to the black top for this trip. The MDC has actually held up reaonably well. No dust ingress, your van chassis has not cracked, and the suspension is still doing it's job. Your trip is fantastic endorsement for the van and where you can take it and what you can subject it to. You are doing the R and D over time and distance and that gives people confidence in the MDC Forbes. It will be interesting to see if MDC design and release a Wild Touring MDC edition based on your needs.... MDC 18 foot Wild Family Van.
Hubby and I am hanging out for your canopy build. We are short terming with an ARB, but a few years down the track will be looking at either Mits or Norweld.
As always, thank you Tiff, Cam and Chloe. We are loving your watching your travels.

  • @davetunbridge6637

You could use the impact driver and socket to open the awning, I use one on the stabiliser legs, saves using the windie thingie, with the fridge I think they use the case as the condenser so maybe a bit more space and some forced ventilation might help when you redo the canopy.
Have loved following you guys, and have enjoyed the honesty with the reviews. We now have the thermocel mossie thing and will do the “mod” to the gas bottle and I’m looking at a 12v oven as well 😎. We have a GIC camper which after a few mods we are really happy with and when we go to a van we’re looking at the MDC XT16 as size wise I think it’s a good compromise and we’re just 2 people so bunks n stuff aren’t an issue. Agree with the ability to cook inside is a must and would look at an induction cooker either mounted permanently or stored for quick access to use inside or out. Stay safe and keep the vids coming.

I also have the Evakool drawer fridge and experience similar problems. It struggles to hold temperature even on relatively mild days. It has even gone as high as 11 degrees before starting to cool things back down again. I have the power drawer monitored through victron smart battery monitor and it cranks as much as 5.5ah when it is cycling, way more than what Evakool's spec indicate. The drawer is very convenient, I only wish different brands picked up the idea with a size of 40L or more.

I have a Evakool drawer like yours, it’s brilliant. Up north you need to drop it to -1 and it will be perfect.
I also have the waeco 30l drawer and it struggles big time up north even on the max setting. Around town and down south is perfect.
Between the two fridges; Evakool everyday as you can drop it down further to deal with the heat.
Oh and yep both my fridges always cycling - but same as you it’s in a closed car, so it’s expected I guess

    Good piece, thanks.
4:20 Five captured leaves with a military wrap and two slippers. Is the shackle bolt greasable? (can't see the inside) - otherwise need to torque that nut correctly and not over-tighten. Definitely not an ideal setup. Are you thinking parabolic or constant load?
I hope that get a bit of sponsorship with a new canopy.
9:35 I have an DZ Evakool 47 and it doesn't stop cycling for freezing. We use it as a ready bin, set to 4C. I had it checked under warranty and the thermistor was pushed in a few more mm. That helped a bit but not for DZ freezing.
19:10 you can change the jets in the stove; advice and jets available from any good camping store
19:35 a grey water pipe is easy for a DYI fix; MDC won't care
The Forbes 13 is not bad for the price.

It really is amazing what get passed off as 'Stainless Steel" these days. Quick tip, if a magnet will stick, it's not a durable quality stainless steel. So many grades under the one name and manufactures get away with it. Your pantry door could open right to left - hinged vertically and be held there by one of those many gas struts without flapping in the breeze (one of the few good ideas our camper trailer has).

I have a suggested use for your yoga mat. Cut a square out of it that is the same size as the stove top. Place it under the trivets and laid over the burners. The weight of the trivets holds it down and stops everything from moving. Then you can throw away those styrene blocks. We do this with our camper and it works great

    Hi Guys,
I’ve watched all of your videos, they great and very informative with tips etc I’m gearing up for a trip of a life time next year to the tip Cape York from tassie would you recommend the MDC Forbes 15 + for wife & I ? Keep up with videos & tips guys great stuff 👍🏻

Gday Jason. I'd definitely recommend an MDC forbes. I reckon they're solid! But if it's just you and the missus, I'd go for the smallest van you're comfortable in. Maybe the 12, or 13? Smaller it is the easier it is to tow and the easier it is to get into those cracking little bush camps at the end of 4x4 tracks!

Fab! You seem to have come off well considering some of the terrain you’ve been on. When you finish yr lap of WA I’d be interested in a Q and A on the best and worst bits of yr travels and what you’d do again 😀

Definitely will do another q&a, and address those questions!

Why have you put in free wheeling hubs, the Isuzus are not constant 4wd, which i prefer. Great point about the drop down doors at the front on the van, they hit the ground and if you are not careful it will wreck the seals. Agree with you about setting up the van, it is so easy, they are built like tanks. Well done you two, great video

So that if (when 😂 ) I break a CV, most of the time I'll get away with unlocking the hub and be able to drive home to fix it. Rather than having to remove the CV on the track.
Also puts less wear on the driveshaft, allows me to have low range 2wd (great for maneuvering heavy trailers on steep hard surfaces), and a slight fuel saving and lighter steering.

Cheers mate, got ThunderFab in Myaree to build me an awesome chassis mount canopy. Was heaps lighter than anything else I could find, but still rated for a 110kg tinny on the roof 👍🏼

Really impressed to see that the vans as good as I thought and serving you guys well!
Unfortunately with the canopy, they're cheap.. though I'm running mine still. But realistically it's been a good stepping stone for your travelling and progression of your setup!
    Another great vid..

Re your stove. Have you thouht that the stove jets may be for natural gas not LPG. The LPG jets also varie from country to country as well. An easy solution is to drill the jets out 1 size.

Cam I can't believe you didn't end up getting clobbered with the leg off the kitchen with your sly comments about not undoing the locks pmsl, at 33:33 in the vid when the pantry slides out, would it help if you attached a cable from the top left of the opening on the pantry section to the top left hand of the door that keeps the pantry hidden so effectively it becomes a table under the pantry??? Cheers for a informative look at your set up
