The scavenge pumps do not supply oil to the cylinder heads as you said, rather they are used to return oil to the sump, so they return oil that's already been supplied to the heads back to the sump

"If it's not right , we're going to money it to death" Love that! Only for a Porsche, would that be a strategy. Great content!

the scavange pumps are reversable m96.24 1-3 stamped on pump faces 1 way and the 4-6 will face the other the seal on the back of the crank are 100% pure shyte i went to kent bearings and got them to match up a seal with a propper spring on the inside and kicked the porsche one round the work shop floor ..... the germans are clever with the IMS bearing all that oil pouring over it and seal the grease in which leaks out with expansion and then runs dry i put a roller bearing back in which takes 10 times the load of the origional throw the covers away drill a 1mm hole in end of the ims shaft and cut a slot in the hex drive to bleed oil off the pump up the shaft through the bearing doesent make and difference to oil pressure paint marks on the bearing cap and date it and drill 8mm hole in the gear box so you can put a camera in to see its done and put a nice rubber bung in it

Scavenge pump doesn't supply oil, it takes oil out of cylinder head/valve train and returns it to the sump, thus called a scavenge pump. Could easily screw up an engine if incorrectly installed.

'99 has a different (and much more expensive) coolant reservoir that can't be changed with the engine in - might think about replacing that before the reinstall. Don't bother with non-OEM replacements either, the results are not worth the savings.
