As someone who has not just been an addict but living in a sub culture of crime, I can say, there are people who embrace complete darkness. I had to die and be in a coma to realize, there is always a choice and being honest with yourself is the only way to change! Once you genuinely try, doors will open for you. It's been nine years since I have changed and it's hard to believe I was ever "that person" today. You are 100% right Hans!!! 😊

See where the problem is? So much negativity and blaming. At the end of the road negativity leads to hopelessness. Stop the stinking thinking. No one said you had to give up on what brings you pleasure, in fact, do more things that bring you pleasure and less things that bring you down.
@Christian Tyler I doubt you can "disappoint God". The battle is between you and your shadow, light vs dark. You're not battling with God, you're battling with yourself.

I enjoy your lectures..its almost like its the exact answer...i was looking for..a combination...a universal truth..from Christianity,the other major religions, native American spirituality, science...it FEELS..like a truthful blend...something ive always felt down deep was the truth.

i recently put drugs in my body knowing it does great damage and hurting myself and my family who asked me to stop. they cant stand or handle that m using drugs. i will ask them to meet me and then i will ask their forgivness and i will go to rehab. im devastated. Sorry to interject here since the question wasn't directed at me, but the ONLY way to rid our minds of negative thoughts is to immediately replace them with positive ones. It's a matter of 'forcing' ourselves to focus on something more beautiful and productive. Baby animals followed by a walk in nature ALWAYS does it for me. Peace

Everytime I watch 1 of Mr. Hans videos I learn something & gain new perspectives on the issues we all face in life. My longing for a relationship is an addictive behavior- I never realized that but it makes perfect sense as I sit here feeling sad & lonely. I do practice meditation but whats missing is that I need to surrender it all to God🙏🏾

My higher power led me to this. Bless you Hans thank you for bringing your flavor and spectrum to addiction and the 12 steps. Been now on the program of recovery for 3 years . I always felt that there something esoteric with the 12 steps
12 steps are indeed powerful stuff, dr. David R. Hawkins, mentions them frequently in his works. Thank you Hans for another distillment of universal law.
yea so powerful that only have a success rate of 5%. All i see is mentally weak people who trade a substance addiction for a cult and predators that take advantage of them in those "meetings"
@@DCM88 I hear what you're saying, group meetings didn't ever do much for me. That said, there's no doubt that they are very helpful for a lot of people who are more inclined towards that kind of social structure.
Maybe the 5% you're referring to are the ones who never use again, but that's a harsh measure of success for something you have to deal with daily like addiction. Every day clean is a success in its own right, and 12 step groups have certainly helped contribute many, many collective clean days that otherwise wouldn't have been there.

Very well said by Hans Wilhelm. It can be hard to get rid of addiction by thought and will alone because our thoughts are often slaves to basic cravings, and we rationalize our behaviors by our thoughts, therefore recognizing a higher, stronger power, the love of God, and using meditation helps because in meditation and awareness our thoughts quiet down. Just my 2 cents on the subject.
With all the hate in the news today I really try to be aware of what I see and hear. Especially when it comes to racism in America. I try not to listen to it because I know it is a never ending NEGATIVE rabbit hole that will trap you. I really try to focus on being patient, love, accepts of other people, and my thought process. But it can be so hard when 70% of everything you see is negative. But I want give up. The biggest disappointment would be to leave this world as a old man and realize that I have lived my life on social media, i let the news dictate my actions and thoughts and I worked 80 hours a week. Thats not taking life by the horns, but it is being a back seat rider to other people's agendas.

So, what happens when someone refuses to forgive? I was taught that forgiveness was something we do for ourselves, that it, in the end, is not necessary. Some people want to punish you for something that was done and they can accomplish that by not giving you what you asked for, forgiveness. Seems to me that waiting for someone to give you forgiveness is akin to shifting the feeling of powerlessness from one thing to another thing or person. Yes, we acknowledge what happened and make amends, but if they cannot give forgiveness for whatever reason, that should not be given power over you. Wish them well and move on rather than waiting as they may never be ready or able to give it.
Until, they live a similar, or exact situation and they "fail" at that too. My mom ( bless her heart, was a mean witch when we we're growing up. I couldn't stand her. Until I grew up, got married had as many children as she did, with the same lack of support, and all sorts of challenges.... a rough patch.Boom, burn out totally fried up my motherboard! It was like God took my body and like a vase that was thrown against the wall, it cracked enough to let a LOT of light in so I could understand what my mom went through, I felt compassion and instant forgiveness, towards her and myself, well, I had to work on not being so dang demanding and hard on myself. Loving myself AS IS, was the best decision I have ever made. I hope you reach a happy go lucky peace of mind soon : )

It’s ironic that I initially set out on my experiments with drugs in an effort to find God but didn’t actually find God until I got into recovery to get off those same drugs after I ended up addicted. I suppose it worked, in a manner of speaking, but I don’t recommend people put themselves through that. There are much better, less destructive ways to get in touch with the Higher Power!

It's impossible for a physical addiction to follow us to the other side. In order to have a physical addiction you have to have a physical body which has chemicals in the brain which either you release too much or not enough without a brain or a nervous system it would be impossible to feel

Thank you Hans for yet another great video, I find them all very insightful and sometimes theraputic. Unfortunately most of us are trapped in an addiction, and it's a technological one. My phone is a real problem for me lately...It's diminishing my social skills which is fuel to the fire as I already have social anxiety and depression. Recent studies have also shown that the bombardment of hand-held information & especially "social media" seriously diminishes our minds ability to focus. I think it's for the welfare of all of us that we give our devices a little bit of a break...!

Is addiction always something negative or can it be positive?
I think there is very little positive to anything that runs and controls us - like an addiction, However, the addiction itself does have a positive component, like everything else: All addictions remind us of what we truly crave for: to be loved and accepted and feel utterly safe. And only God can give us that.
I enjoy that this coincides with my theory of addiction which is essentially The opposite of addiction is bonds not sobriety.

heaven oo4 God wants us to learn self love first. You are giving the wrong example to your children by staying. You show them that this is how family is supposed to be but it is not. I do not wish to be judgemental to you but this is how it works. I really hope God helps you to love yourself and your kids enough to leave. Best of luck to you!

Ive struggled with addiction my entire life which I beleive came from my abusive childhood trama and genetics. Although I still havent conqured these demons I was told I need to replace my habits with something new. I spent a good amount of time on my addictions and I need to replace my old habits with something positve. Also this is not an I program it is a we program and we must not go it alone
But Hans tell us what does it mean to relapse!??? I guess if relapse occurs then we never did really beat or make the changes necessary to overcome tue addiction!!?? I guess that just means more “schooling” until we reach that point of total withdrawal from the behavior & total surrender to God!!??? The problem I have is i can beat or quit my addiction for a while but the desire & want never quite or completely leaves my body & brain!!! Please pray that I eventually gain the full & total desire to quit forever & hopefully that comes while i still have a chance & not something crazy like overdose or life stopped early before i gain the strength to overcome!!!???
