Really? So you got the one that NASA astronauts took to the dark side of the moon in 1968 in Apollo 10. The same watch and movement adorned the wrist of Apollo 11 crew when they went to the moon in 1969. Omega re-released the original 321 calibre in 2019 for the moon landing 50th anniversary, at a huge price increase over the regular speedmaster moon watch. That’s quite a special original watch you have there!
I saw a speedmaster for the first time (outside of a boutique) on the wrist of a patient of mine and I was amazed how classy and relatively unpretentious the watch appeared in the flesh. My ultimate grail watch for sure.
@Will Harris Thank you. I´ve not yet decided which model to go for. Besides the lack of knowledge I won´t be spending 3 to 5 k€ on a watch in the next 2 or 3 years, so much time to spend with research and impressions.
Interesting. Just took a very close look at a new Speedmaster Moonwatch at my local AD. I compared both the hesalite and the sapphire sandwhich. What I noticed immediately is that the white dial markers on the sapphire version are perceptibly duller than the hesalite version; I can only assume that the sapphire glass blocks more light. The hesalite definitely has better legibility and character (if you don’t mind the missing display back and the propensity for more scratches). That said, as much as I love the history and overall general appearance of the Speedmaster, I was left unimpressed by the steel bracelet. It felt really light and the finishing was a bit dull and rough; kinda cheap overall. All I could think at the time was how extremely well made some of these smaller/homage/microbrands like Steinhart really are, particuarly for the money. The AD wouldn’t offer more than a 15% discount on a new Speedy…so I walked. There’s no way it’s worth $5900CDN (even with the tax included). Acrylic crystal, manual wind, ancient movement, less than stellar finishing. One of those watches that looks better in photos than it feels in person-in my humble opinion it’s a $3K watch, no more.
You are the one responsible for the prices of these Reduceds going up! Haha great video as always. Please review the new DJ 36 Ref: 126234! Would be greatly appreciated.
I was attracted to the smaller case. But over the last few months, the whole watch has grown on me. Just pulled the trigger on a clean reduced from '98 with full kit. I could not avoid temptation.
Good day, Tristano! I miss a lot the "duel" programs you used to do in the past...You know? It would be interesting a triple comparison between the original, the reduced and the first Omega in space numbered edition. Thank you for you reviews!
Thank you Enrique, I miss doing this too but they involve so much work, a triple comparison would take weeks! This video alone took almost an entire week, but hopefully worth it. Once I am settled I will try to see if I can do more comparisons. Best regards, TGV
Hi! I am looking to buy this watch, the later model with the sapphire, but the 30m water resistance troubles me. People say that it may get damaged in the rain. I personally never remove my watch when casually swimming on the beach, do you think I wont be able to swim with that watch?
Omega bracelets are so damn ugly! The president style on the Reduced is one of their best looking. Only bested by the original Speedy flat link. But the current Speedy and Sea pro bracelets are some of the most atrocious bracelets in the industry, in terms of looks.
I picked up a Speedy Reduced/Automatic at the start of lockdown here in the UK as the market ground to a halt. I would never normally mention values, but I felt I got a tremendous bargain paying just £930. It was a little cheaper since it didn't come with the bracelet (which wont be missed) but still felt like exceptional value. The watch has since been authenticated and I'm extremely happy with it!
Excellent review! I spent months looking at this watch and the Reduced II but ultimately decided on the Speedmaster Racing Co-Axial. The blue dial version is absolutely stunning in person and given the small price difference, it was a no-brainer. Would love to see you review one, TGV!
I agree with thee comment left by NateStevens1992. I've basically watched every single video on this channel and bought multiple watches in confidence after certain reviews (Pelagos LHD, Breitling Transocean) and my comments are as follows. I loved the setup in the war room with all your trinkets and items in the background; for me the only thing missing from that were some on the wrist shots. I was considerably more engaged by those videos than by this format. I don't really want to watch someone about town to this extent, that seems almost more towards fashion vlog than watch video if you bear in mind that we are here for the watch, and the person yes but not in that style in my opinion. I would say in this format there is actually less focus on the watch that the old format. Perhaps more time could be invested with the team on photography of the watch with some kind of classic map as the bottom surface as we were used to. Especially considering the length of this video I think the war room would have been a lot more appropriate. While you may now have access to a team etc, moving away from the style that your audience bought in to may have the effect of alienating your audience. I know there is a mix from war room to this but if this is not what your audience wants, then who is it for? Some examples would be equalsthree, the commentary channel by Ray William Johnson. Despite raving success over the years, his studio remained exactly the same - a man standing in front of two glossy boards. Pewdiepie is another example, the biggest vlogger on youtube - his setup is completely potato, but consistent in its identity and connection with his audience. Investment went into editing but not shiny production. I am only 7 minutes into the video and paused it as I wondered what other people thought at this point, and I write the comment 7 minutes in. This is not what I turned up for! P.S. Have a look at the supreme moka express on stockx
New War room is still under construction, stay tuned :D Also both this and old style series will continue as they have been. Thank you for the feedback, Best regards, TGV
Love this watch! I love the vintage vibe. In an age where bigger is more desirable, the speedy reduced 3510.50 is the antithesis of the BIG craze. Watch sizes will (and are starting to) scale back....
I bought one about a year ago and it is an amazing watch. And great value too, I got mine for half the price a professional would have cost at the time
It is amazing to see how the quality of your videos has evolved. This is one of the best watch reviews I've ever seen, it's complete, well written, quality footage... just all perfect. I'm a quite early subscriber to your channel and so happy to see where this channel took you and where you're taking it. My passion for horology has grown thanks to you... among others on UA-cam. "Un grand merci" from Geneva!
Thank you so much for saying that Romain, that means a great deal to me, you are an absolute gent for saying so. It is precisely this kind of positivity that will take you very far to a happy and fulfilling life, if it hasn't already. You in turn, inspire me, O&U! Best regards, TGV
I bought a Speedmaster Reduced back in 2001 I think for like 8000 French Francs (i.e. perhaps 1200 EUR) at the time. I've been wearing it pretty much daily since. It really is a fantastic timepiece - discrete yet classy!
Excellent video! Very timely! I was looking at a pristine 3510.50 online for $1700! Then I did some research and stumbled upon this fresh video! Keep up the good work, sir! Subbed!
I'm sorry, but I had one of those, and it was a nightmare, the movement is so, so, so bad, and the costumer service was equal to the movement. In my opinion, it's a don't buy it!!! And I have several friends that bought it also because of the size, and they're experience was also a nightmare!
Sorry to hear that, out of the many I have owned, I had a few issues too, but as I said in my negatives, it happens! Better luck next time, thank you for sharing that. Best regards, TGV
Great review! This is the watch I really want to add to my collection. My collection is modest and inexpensive and this would be my highest price watch. You said in the video that it has a screw down case back but I thought the reduced automatic had a snap on case back?
Great video as always, I'd love you to do a review of the Sinn 103 st sa with the acrylic, such an iconic watch but at £1600 a superb lower cost alternative to the speedy...anyway all the best Tristano..
Learned of these when I discovered your channel around 2015. Yearned for it then, and searching one now! Took a long break from the hobby. Checking back now and can see the growth/editing talent has only increased! Love the shots of philly, hope to catch you around
That Speedy sounds right up my alley. However I must say, I am not a fan of "shakey-cam" filming. I don't regularly watch TV (where I know it is commonplace), and whenever I see this kind of filming it distracts me from the content.
fireboy1969 Also speak a little further from the microphone in voiceovers, reduces wind noise and gives a crisper sound. Enjoyed the video overall though
easily solved with a stabilizer, get some dji awesomeness, either a Ronin SC or Osmo (either mobile 2 or pocket), depending on whether you use a mirrorless or a phone to shoot video
With the all new missions on the horizon I can see these really appreciating, since the reduced were made in a Smaller quantity, ==rarer. My professional was far too big. This fits like glove. Great vids and keep up the great work. And Thankyou.
Just got my reduced today after 3 years of looking for the watch for me and you nailed it with this review. Thank you for all of you content we appreciate it.
Just got a reduced a couple of months ago and loved it right away. Inevitably I started wondering about what the moonwatch would look like on the wrist - surely it would be even better? - I have to say I actually prefer the reduced I love the busier dial and the more intricate feel this gives. I also love the fact the crown is out of line - Quirks are always good! although when it comes to service I might think different!
Io sono innamorato del reduced blu con calibro 7750 calendario completo... Ma anche questo ha un suo perchè! Adatto a chi ha un posto piccolo e cerca uno Speed. Mai deve essere un compromesso ! Perché ha un anima propria
I purchased one of these second hand at the beginning of January, Iv never bought a second hand watch before but had no choice. My Seamaster, Santos, black bay, Longines and tag Heuer haven’t seen the light of day since. It wears so well and the size is perfect!
Another great history lesson. Great review. What was the setting? Philly? I’m ashamed I have to ask that question. I will probably never own either one but I like the bigger watches so the 42 MM would be my choice.I love the high production. The Gentry just keeps getting better and better. Thanks mate.
I wanted to tell you that your videos are the reason I got into watch collecting. You are the main influence on me for sure. I have a Seiko Alpinist, a Stowa Flieger and a Squale 1521 and 1545. My Squales get the most wrist time these days. I'm a nurse and I'm very active at work, walking long distances in my facility while supervising at night. Automatic watches are great for me.
I actually spent some serious time with one as a friend of mine lent me his. It's a cracking watch, however, it did not have that same magic Speedy feeling the reduced has. It felt like a different watch entirely to be honest. I can't really explain, as some might prefer it, but for me, the Reduced is my choice (despite being far inferior) to the Racing every time. I hope that helps, thank you Daniel. Best regards, TGV
I always felt that the reduced dial feels a bit clustered even tho they moved the sub-dials out to the side. The professional is much tidier in my view and I like the 42mm feel on my wrist. Great vid.Good work fella.
Screw down case back? I have the first iteration of the reduced- same one here with the seconds on the dial and they are snap down case backs. This is well known!
Does its 30m water resistance forbid casual swimming? (Just normal swimming on the beach/pool, no water sports). Please someone help, I am one click away from buying this as the original 42mm looks to bulky on me. Thanks!
Continuation of my previous comment after having watched the rest of the video. Bring back the yellow notepad, bring back the tube map, bring back the parker pens (even though Cross Century Classic Ball Pen is the final boss) - the notepad and pen are some of the icons of the channel - if you are to use this format then perhaps consider what can be brought over. Should have a board with all the icons / things that make up the personality of the channel before WB and consider when it is appropriate to use things in these videos. You're making videos for your audience not their audience, if you know what I mean. They have their own channels for that and their more polished formats if you will (I also love their videos and have watched every single classroom video - they are amazing). 17:00 where is the camera stabilisation? At least use a tripod.
@@NLJamba no forgiveness for a watch of this cost to be less water resistant than a $100 Casio chronograph. Absolutely ridiculous. Omega missed the whole point. If it was raining or storming during a race what am I going to time the sets with? . Omega stays at home. Casio wins the race. For $3,000 dollars my pushers better be sealed well and capable of working when wet. A lot of these speedys have water damage from my experience. Luxury is simply take my money.
I always wanted to get the Seiko marine master 600 spring drive but I’m swayed by this. I was also looking at the Daytona but this is much cheaper. But my heart beats for the Seiko. This seems like a sensible choice for my wallet. Please help I have an AP diver Rolex gmt master 2 , Rolex President 36mm. Seiko presage Seiko turtle ( cracked glass)
It's gonna take a bit if getting used to the new format bruv, but, it's a bit.... Freeman's catalogueish. Those from the UK will know what I'm on about.
Random question to a video u did about watch straps. I got a tissot thats 21mm. I only found one or two people who make that size. Was wondering would a 20mm be good enough? Or just 1mm less would make the watch wiggle to much or something. Was thinking of just getting a 20mm thinking it would be fine. ✌️
I think it is a cool alternative to the Speedmaster Professional for people with smaller wrists. On the wrist I think it looks just as good. I went with the Professional because I have 7.5 inch wrists and feel like the size looks ok on me. I am not a big fan of piggyback chronograph modules for various reasons. For me that would be the reason to also consider the 38 mm coaxial Speedmaster when looking for an automatic/smaller case. Though I like the look of the reduced better.
Hello Tristano ! Waouhhhh ... How to say it ... this video is reallly a BIG quality one ! Your skills and your talent, and probably the technical support of Watchbox now ... I think even not watch lovers could appreciate this work ... really a lot of congrats from Paris !
I just got into watches a few months ago and your videos were a big part of that. Love the shots around philly in this video, both cause I love philly and it gives the viewer a better sense of how the watch wears. Also enjoyed how you explore a little bit of the watches' lineage, design, feel, hot takes from others, as well as pros and cons - good stuff! Excited to see how you continue to evolve and develop your craft. Welcome to philly!
This is the best ever video of speedmaster reduced I have ever seen. Have been wanting to buy one for 8 years and finally got one. When I got it, it felt smaller than in videos on my wrist of 6.3 inch. But it has grown on me since. For clearing all my doubts regarding the size and fitting, I went to the closest Omega Boutique to try different variations of speedy (i.e. the moonwatch, FOIS, new co-axial 38mm, 1861 with see through) but they felt bulky and heavy on my wrist and for me. So, ultimately, instead of sending my 3510.50 speedy on a bracelet back to the watch dealer for a refund, I decided to keep it as I realize I am getting used to the look of it. Maybe in far future if I gain weight and my wrist gets thicker (which I doubt), I will go for a pro. But for now I am enjoying my speedy reduced. P.S. a guy in Omega Boutique told me secretly that calibre 1861 will be discontinued in 2-3 years and will be exchanged to a newer more robust movement. So, the collectors, please rush to get your new speedy pro with calibre 1861.
So nice video. I loved this watch and I was going to buy it in 2005 in exchange for a 70s Rolex Air King. Nothing was done and I still think it was a so beautiful watch, especially for my small wrist. A perfect match. You brought me back in time
I have this version, with the lume turning a nice pumpkin color. I adore it. It feels sportier than its big brother with those minute markers, but the size is spot on for my small wrist. I didn't care for the bracelet at first, but I admit that it has grown on me, as it's very comfortable, and looks great.
VERY nice, I love how you put that "pumpkin color" and also you are so right, it doe feel more "sporty" than the pro. Bang on. Thank you Gabriel, I love reading such perceptive comments on the watch, keep enjoying it! Best regards, TGV
It's like I'm watching a National Geographic special on a Speedy. When paused, could be a page Omega advert on GQ or Top Gear Magazine. Nice one TGV, kudos to the channel. Oh and 7:04, guilty as well.
Omega watches are nice, the wear well and look good, but the resale value on all of them is non existent it’s like throwing money away and the accuracy well they vary so much
The speedy pro was my grail watch for years, but i came across a 45 mm planet ocean at a very good price two years ago, witch has been my daily d(r)iver since then. I was on vacation in Italy three weeks ago, and i bought a speedy saphfire sandwich at a jeweller selling out for closure, again at a very good price, but i kind of regret it now. I don't feel the magic any more, after wearing it for two weeks, i think it's too small, i became accustomed at the bigger PO, and i have a quite large wrist witch doesn't help my perception either. Not sure if i should keep it, all tough the speedy will always be a classic, i've had some compliments on it, and never had any with the PO. Oh and nice review TGV, thank you for the time and effort.
It is a wonderful video as usual. Maybe some day you could talk about another very rare speedmaster model, the reference 311.30.44.50.01.001, the first co-axial speedy, the one which was a transaction from classic speedmaster to the new models.
Nice to see a reduced back on the channel ! I personally don't like the sub dials being so close to the edges. On the other hand the professional is too big. The first omega in space is the perfect combination in my opinion 😊
Welcome back Rhys, This is a new series that has taken a lot of time and super talented people to make, old style videos more rudimentary videos are still being posted. Thank you, enjoy! :D Best regards, TGV
Well you will be glad to know I do both, as. you can see from the content uploaded over that last month and more. Thank you, enjoy :D Best regards, TGV
I'm a 7.75 wrist but I don't like anything over 40mm. SpeedyR is just beautiful. But I prefer to wear a plain watch. TGV thanks for your great classy work.
I considered the Reduced in the early 2000s but opted for the movement sister, the Dynamic III Chrono which NEVER let me down (unserviced for about 20 years) and was made in very low numbers, especially as the transition model with Tritium numbers which aged so beautifully during our 20+ years trip on this planet. Now it got "Omega spec. full service" at my trusted watchmaker and I fell in love again. The reason why I opted for the Dynamic instead of the Reduced over 20 years ago was that I was in the waiting line for my dad´s 1971 step dial Speedmaster Pro and I didn´t want to have two Speedmasters sitting around later (now I would). Meanwhile I have dads over 50 years old Pro and it got a full "Omega spec." service with caring for keeping it most original. If the prices would still be as low as they once were, I´d buy me a Reduced I as a link between my Speedi Pro and the Dynamic III. But to be honest there are so many other watches I like. If I were an Omega newbie I´d look out for the Reduced I as a personal daily user Speedi and then look out for a 1960s 321 model. Great watch and I do trust the two module movements of Omega. My Dynamic is COSC accurate with ease after the first service after 20 years of unserviced use. Great video, TGV.
I never understood why despite being 4mm smaller, still Omega wanted to fill up the dial with little tiny numbers that in the end makes it very crowdy if not confusing. The bigger (pro) brother's dial is definitely cleaner and seems more refined not having those indexes.
The speedy automatic is really cool. Could not care if haters say it's not a real speedy. I agree with you TGV, to get the coaxial movement for not much more is a no brainer. Take it easy TGV hope all is well👍
Bought mine in 1967, 321 movement and still have it! $94.00
is it still looking good?😃
I saw "mine" the first time at the age of 21 and since then, I love it. 25 years later, maybe I will buy it... maybe :)
Really? So you got the one that NASA astronauts took to the dark side of the moon in 1968 in Apollo 10. @@Pulsonarhe's lying unless he's not talking about the Reduced Speedmaster
You’re lying, the Speedmaster Reduced was introduced in 1988 and uses the caliber 3220 movement.
I'm slowly getting the Speedmaster........

Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry for omega and swatch group, it's not going to happen a next time. 😉
Super legible 38mm chronograph, while my bulova moon watch is virtually unreadable, even at 45mm.
These outdoors photoshoot style videos are amazing my man.
@@isaac_k98 lol you don't need to explain this to an (ex)

easily solved with a stabilizer, get some dji awesomeness, either a Ronin SC or Osmo (either mobile 2 or pocket), depending on whether you use a mirrorless or a phone to shoot video
With the all new missions on the horizon I can see these really appreciating, since the reduced were made in a
Smaller quantity, ==rarer. My professional was far too big. This fits like glove. Great vids and keep up the great work. And Thankyou.
Just got my reduced today after 3 years of looking for the watch for me and you nailed it with this review. Thank you for all of you content we appreciate it.
I’m so close to getting a speedmaster, it’s just timeless. And very very handsome.
The REAL question is: have you had Jim’s Steaks yet on South Street??? 😎
Tourist joint.
Over the five years i realized how overtime iam kinda attached to it bought mine for 1100 back then wouldn't even consider selling it
I wanted to tell you that your videos are the reason I got into watch collecting.
I absolutely love my speedy reduced. Great review TGV, thanks for featuring it, I’m actually wearing it as I’m watching this.
What do you think about the
Speedmaster
SPEEDMASTER 38
CO‑AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH 38 MM?
I actually spent some serious time with one as a friend of mine lent me his.
It's a cracking watch, however, it did not have that same magic Speedy feeling the reduced has. It felt like a different watch entirely to be honest. I can't really explain, as some might prefer it, but for me, the Reduced is my choice (despite being far inferior) to the Racing every time.
I hope that helps, thank you Daniel.
Best regards,
TGV
I always felt that the reduced dial feels a bit clustered even tho they moved the sub-dials out to the side.
The professional is much tidier in my view and I like the 42mm feel on my wrist.
Great vid.Good work fella.
how come you don't do public appearances and review the watch with the public...?
Is the manual wind movement better quality or just different than the auto?
Screw down case back? I have the first iteration of the reduced- same one here with the seconds on the dial and they are snap down case backs. This is well known!
Does its 30m water resistance forbid casual swimming? (Just normal swimming on the beach/pool, no water sports).
Please someone help, I am one click away from buying this as the original 42mm looks to bulky on me.
Thanks!
Could your cameraman please turn on the image stabilization of the camera please? It is very distracting as the camera is shaking constantly.
Poor water resistance rating let’s it down for me, especially at that price.
True. I don't buy anything that can't get wet.
It’s 30 meters water resistant, no troubles it gets a bit wet.
Please help
I have an AP diver
Rolex gmt master 2 , Rolex President 36mm.
Seiko presage
Seiko turtle ( cracked glass)
It's gonna take a bit if getting used to the new format bruv, but, it's a bit.... Freeman's catalogueish. Those from the UK will know what I'm on about.
If I had the money I'd definitely buy a speedmaster, I've got a long list of watches I will never be able to afford, haha but we can dream can't we ?
Hang in there my friend, I am sure it will happen!
Dreams can come true, you can do it my friend.

Just found out TODAY about the Reduced one which is EXACTLY what I would have hoped for... Smaller version! Loving it
I think it is a cool alternative to the Speedmaster Professional for people with smaller wrists.
Excellent suggestion, thank you Manny.

Love this channel. Does The Urban Gentry have any recommendations for books on horology and other timekeeping topics? (Might be a good video topic)
A man & his watch. The watch thoroughly revised. Just two that i've really enjoyed reading.
I love watching you from France ! You're the best 😉
Thank you :D
Vive la France!!!

You've got a way with words
Hello Tristano !
Waouhhhh ... How to say it ... this video is reallly a BIG quality one !
Your skills and your talent, and probably the technical support of Watchbox now ... I think even not watch lovers could appreciate this work ... really a lot of congrats from Paris !
Speedy Triple Date or Date is a better bang for your buck. Reliable, tried and true Valjoux 7750 movement.
I bought my Speedmaster in 1969. It was not $94. It was $165.
Thank you Micheal, that makes me so happy to hear that!
Enjoy the journey.

Most enjoyable! Ps. The ROLEX Clock in Wimbledon Centre Court - Anyone any info on it? Is it a chronometer/quartz?? atb snack.
Hello TGV, great video, enjoyed listening to your insights. ⌚️⏱
That is an absolutely slick jacket. What's the brand? Thank you
It's Belstaff.
Great intro TGV, very refreshing and brightening!
Best regards,
TGV
Something has changed on this channel and i don’t know if i like it🤔
Welcome back Rhys,
This is a new series that has taken a lot of time and super talented people to make, old style videos more rudimentary videos are still being posted.
Thank you, enjoy! :D

you are to blame for my purchase of the reduced 3539..absolutely loving it and wear it everyday. have my eyes on a marui panda reduced next :)
I prefer the old style reviews, TGV
Well you will be glad to know I do both, as. you can see from the content uploaded over that last month and more.
Thank you, enjoy :D

Absolutely fantastic review once again. Great video!
Thank you so much :D
Very kind of you to say,

I'm a 7.75 wrist but I don't like anything over 40mm. SpeedyR is just beautiful. But I prefer to wear a plain watch. TGV thanks for your great classy work.
He protecc
He atacc
But most importantly
Will he buy
The Speedy reduced bacc?
I’ve been looking into my first automatic watch and I was wondering what you believe would be the best one to start with.
@ 1:34 Is the Omega logo engraved on the crystal? If so, that is quite impressive.
In every omega
Take it easy TGV hope all is well👍
I have been thinking of getting a speedy, but not sure what to get. I have a small wrist and looking at the 38 -39mm sized ones. Any advice??
@Al B. Yes, that is exactly the way it is for me, too heavy any bigger and hangs over the wrist. Thank you for replying.
is the Omega Nato for 18mm ? i only find the Nato in 19mm/20mm !!
Love the way you edit the vid and your passion for watches.
Brilliant video going to push up the price of the reduced now 😂😂
