Recently got back into the hobby at a "big track" The dime a dozen 50% sponsorships made me feel like I was at a movie theater watching nothing but previews. Give me back the backyard dirt tracks of decades past.
There's no doubting having the additional pressure of feeling obligated to turn up to support your sponsor when work and life get in the way makes it harder and can impact your motivation. Sponsors need to be realistic in the way they manage their teams and let them know it's OK to take time out to recuperate and recharge. While not physically demanding like say marathon mountain biking (my main "hobby"), major races are psychologically demanding and still demand recovery time. Thanks Ryan, have been enjoying your channel - nice mixture of relaxed attitude ("it's just toy cars") and quality information.
Very helpful video! I am 19 and just got into the offroad side of R/C racing. I have talked to a few Chassis companies and Electronic manufactures about sponsorship and this helps a ton.
You continue to out-do yourself, my man! Your content is becoming top-notch and you're starting to set yourself apart. I don't ever plan on going for a sponsorship, personally, but I think the message of this video would be good for anyone who races. Seriously, dude, bravo!

And it's more easy when you don't have lot of experience in this passion. In France, the RC is not famous like in USA. Hope you read my comment, continues to help people like me in our passion. Nice Video! The thing I love is when you have a loud mouth at the track thats been racing for 6 months saying hes sponsored by this and that. Then you go out and spank him in the race!
Lets face it, some people have pretty poor social skills and RC seems to be filled with way to many of them and has to much Drama. But what do you do when you love racing so much, I much prefer Nitro but I would race a box of Kleenex if it would move on its own!

But when is it too early to go fo some small sponsorships? I just recently got into racing and am looking like I will be very competitive. But tires are adding up fast and the funds are starting to dwindle so having a little help on tires would be awesome but just am not sure when to go for it

another awesome topic. It's so easy to say " I want to be sponsored" . It's more than being fast and winning to get free r/c stuff....you have to eat, breathe, promote, love, be a role model, etc.......it's a job... It's almost a lifestyle. You have to be dedicated and passionate to be good at it. It's not for everyone. I always wondered why these kids at my track aren't getting picked up by r/c companies. I see them hanging out with the sponsored guys then Jason said something that explained and made sense to me. Dedication and determination. .... Good job Ryan.
I will say racing when you have sponsors can make you pretty competitive. My sponsors expect race results and turning in a bad sheet can make you a little worried.
I've always felt that RC racing was supposed to be about just having fun - being it's one of, if not the least expensive type of vehicle racing you can get into and at a very young age. Once sponsorship gets involved, it becomes more of an occupation instead of just a hobby. Not that there is anything wrong with that for those that pursue it, but I always found it odd back in the 90's when I was a kid trying to have fun around all these adults who seemed to be taking things way to seriously, especially at a regional event where points were on the line. I also learned that without deep pockets or some type of sponsorship I just wasn't going to be able to hang with the top tier - only after I got a mild battery sponsorship was I able to consistently get into the A mains, but I was never in it to be pro. People that have the funds and skills, for the most part know it, and that can lead to somewhat of an elitist attitude even at the local level. While the vehicles and electronics have changed a lot over the past 20 years, the type pf people that race seem to have stayed the mostly same. I am glad to see the hobby is still alive and well, I'm just bummed Traxxas left the racing game.
back in the late 80's and through the 90's i was a sponsored driver and i still race .. as a team or factory driver, you should be fast and curtious on the track, informative and helpful in the pits, and have your gear in order, look professional .. attitude is key because you are representing the sponsors so be on your game .. don't act like a know it all or be pushy ..
I dig out my old losi 8t 2.0 this year converted to electric took championship at our local track in amateur class. also 4th in our pro class. using jconcept tires. I don't take alot with me to race just basics. no I not sponsored
Why do people run expensive esc? I need to get one and I see a hobbywing justock GS3 for $63 and and XR10 pro elite for $209 I'm not sure what to get? What does the better one do different?
The justock g63 is meant for racing in a stock class so you can't mess with the power settings. I would look at the hobbywing quicrun 10bl120 esc. Its basically the same as the xr10 elite pro just not quite as many settings to adjust and not as fine control over the settings but it is 1/4th the price and I've been using them since 2017 and I've only just now had one go bad.
Look I’m 13 been racing since 5 years old. I race 2 times a month on road and off-road 1/5 scale. On road in my class I have been dominating going to change class to have more competition, I have never raced against a kid before in my career so far. I have been racing all the sponsorship drivers witch is good for me to get better I also have been racing in the 1/5 scale Victoria state titles witch, I was very fast all weekend beating a lot of the sponsorship drivers and the local fast guys.

I’d love to have some local sponsorship with Arrma, I sold all my Traxxas RC’s other than 1 to build my Arrma fleet. I just got a go pro and stud I’ll need to make vids, plus vids I’ve made giving a kid that’s Dad has cerebral palsy a Slash’s 4x4 VXL Cuz his dad couldn’t afford to get him one and he’s always helping at race night. For real allot of us in this hobby has too many cars as it is. Giving back is where it’s at, honestly no better feeling. Sponsored or not it’s about being a good person and doing the right thing.
IMO from the years of watching Mayfield.. mainly in videos. Every time I have seen him get a bit.... upset... it is justified. Roar nats in Texas i believe a few years ago. He wuz leading the pack and about to take the W when his servo went out and he copped a dnf knocking him out of contention. Yeah bye bye 1st place pay check ! 5 days of work pooped out in one heat from an equipment failure. I'd wanna break stuff too! Just sayin.
I've seen, not giving names, many racers get emotional during an event. I get it, we're human, things happen etc. However, lashing out where the public can see is never acceptable at a race, regardless of your skill set or occupation. We're supposed to lead by example, if that's the example we set, our next gen of racers are going to be crying, participation trophy getting, pansies. Keep emotions in until you're at your pit.

I agree but at the same time sponsorship levels come into play here, Ex. I was once a team trinity driver and basically it was a 30% off MSRP deal so if you paid $99 for a motor +shipping I paid like $85 ish or something so I didn't really save much over being non-sponsored and they didn't really have requirements out of me. I think having a little bit of help with your hobby isn't a bad thing. Now when you go to 50% and beyond now it becomes more of a job.
so if i can drive my butt off but i dont go on facebook or instagram and im low budget and cant afford name brand top dollar equipment i have a less chance of getting sponsored? i understand wanting someone who knows what they are doing but if they show penitential why not take a shot at them and give them the chance to make adjustments... i have nice trucks but im low income and cant afford top notch stuff and have had to DNF cause i couldnt get new parts and had to wait! id rather give the low budget guys a shot then the guys who already got the top notch stuff and dont need the extra help!

Traxxas just gives rc cars to UA-camrs it makes me a little angry about who they help and who they won't!

I know im hard to deal with on the driver's stand. I've had guys roaring in fits of laughter as im making jokes and other dumb stuff like that.😂🤣😜
What do you use the magical spray for? I assume it’s for cleaning/plastic restoration. Love the videos lots of good info. Keep it up .
Yes! I clean my vehicle with simple green first, then I condition the plastics with a light coat of the magical CRC Silicone spray haha

I fly RC Helis and I agree it’s more about the fun of the hobby... I think people get to competitive and they take the fun away from it.
