    Ever wondered how hard it would be to change the fuel filter on your Land Rover Discovery yourself? I did, so I read the Haynes Manual and did extra research across the web. Then, armed with enough information, I headed outside and under the car with all my tools.
    Changing the diesel fuel filter on my Land Rover Discovery looked a bit tricky to start with, as the filter is hidden away underneath the car. I jacked it up and crawled under and set about removing the old filter. The fuel pipes are just clipped on, but still take a bit of fiddling to get them off.
    How easy would I say it is to swap the fuel filter now? Fairly Easy.

    I’m a professional mechanic of 20 years but couldn’t remember where the fuel filter was off the top of my head so ‘good old UA-cam’ sprung to mind. And up sprung your video. (I can speak for all mechanics out there by the way!)
    Such a black and white instruction by a novice. Absolutely spot on video.

    Thanks champ. I didn't jack the disco up. Just raised it and slid under on a tarp. Also, I didn't remove the bracket. Just bent the arms open enough. They closed back up fine. The 'clips' are easier to undo than it appears. I don't know if there's one or two 'buttons' to push in but only 1 needs pressing with a finger. A screw driver can help. I clicked 3 back on super easy and the fourth (yellow) one wouldn't go on for love nor money (and I tried a LOT). I dropped the 3 off again and did the yellow one first which went well and then the other 3. That was the only real hassle. Overall the job isn't as bad as it looks. And it looks BAD. Thanks for your videos.

      You're welcome. Just a word of warning, I wouldn't go under the raised car without supports. If you accidentally knock an airhose off the car will just drop. And it drops to even lower than Access Height. Also, the Disco3 has a self levelling feature, which will adjust the height of each air suspension strut without warning. Raise it up and wedge an axel stand under it.
      Here's a tip, actually - Raise it up to as high as it goes and wedge something under it. Then tell it to lower. The car notes that there's something wedged there and goes into Super Extended Mode. It raises up two or three inches higher than the Raised suspension height. Re-wedge it and then disconnect the battery to avoid its self-levelling feature.

    Fuel filter on a D2 TD5 is a damn sight easier, as the filter is located behind the rear offside tyre, and is a screw off / screw back on format. Damn silly place for it, mind, so I found it interesting that they moved it to a less vulnerable place in the D3 :) Thanks for the vid :)

    Great video and work, which software are u using for video editing?

    • @WeAreBigKids
      @WeAreBigKids  6 років тому +1

      Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. As for software, this particular video was cut using Adobe Premiere. But editing is editing, just like a hammer is a hammer, and you can do the same job using any software.
      I am a professional editor working in Broadcast TV. We usually use Avid Media Composer for TV programmes, but Premiere gets used too. Also some people enjoy using the crazy FCPX. I tried FCPX for a week or two, but decided Adobe is my weapon of choice for my personal projects.
      In the early 90s I used to use a system called Lightworks. Back then most of the Hollywood blockbusters were cut using Lightworks. It disappeared for many years but a few years ago the programmers released it again for free. I tried the free version for a while but I found it a little old fashioned and buggy. It crashed more than I liked. Avid and Premiere very rarely crash nowadays. But they're not free.

      There are plenty of Web stores in the UK for spares. I tend to prefer AdvancedFactors.co.uk as the layout is extremely easy to find the correct parts. It's all laid out per car model and has lots of pictures so you know if you're right or not. I find other websites can be cheaper, but you need the part codes to find the right parts.
