exactly. ridiculous that they are showing a video of messi in his latter years at the club. what do they expect the kids to take away from that? Run less? Stupid. like you say, messi can afford the way he played because he was a genius. they should show videos of him when he was 24, ran more than anyone and participated in everything, in the really great barcelona sides. Id expect better from the coaches at La Masia.

He controls the tempo of the game. If the game is too fast, he slows it down. In modern day, only 2 players can do this: Messi and Sergio Busquets (since Iniesta has retired and yes i didnt forget zizou). I think pedri can have this trait.

I wish more people would watch analysis of him like this. Rather than just looking at goal tallies,. Look at how often he totally affects a game with such minimal involvement. How often he is THE decisive factor in any given game. How many goals others owe to his movement etc... When you really look at the whole picture you simply can not deny he's the best to ever do it!

    1:46 that pass on Iniesta.
The fact that he's able to play that pass, but also expects Iniesta to be able to control it and continue the play. That is the highest level of football ever seen in the history of the game (by 2 of the best players of all time). It may seem simple, but literally no one else would even try it. It's a combination of 100% confidence in the ability of your teammate and the vision to even see and play it.

@uph340ramakrishnaprabhu8 you're talking about events that happens once in a while. But football is all about a fraction of a second to runs the 20 yard dash faster it's a fraction of second between attacker and defender, when defender makes a tackle in his own penalty box he has to time it perfectly even fraction of a second late or too early and he gets a booking, the keeper has to react very quickly even a fraction of second late and they concede a goal. Football is all about the decision of a fraction of a second.

I think one of the biggest mistakes is teaching kids to play like Lionel Messi in his mid 30s. The reason Messi can walk is because he has experience. He spent his teen years and early to mid 20s making a ton of runs and a lot of movement only to then learn what the best movements were through experience. By teaching kids how to move less, they begin to not make moves based off theory instead of experience. Players are being taught short cuts to play like Messi but Messi is a bad example. Messi is an exception. There is no short cut to be as efficient as Messi. It has taken Messi 30+ years to get to the point that he can walk so little

I understand this without being a coach or having a football career. If u watch ball calmly you'll see it. Ronaldo does crazy stuffs too infact without holding the ball. His runs collapse defense. His presence set his teammates up for goals since the focus on him increase. Some idiots will use this analysis to talk down on Cr7 saying he's not intelligent or talented.
At the age of 24 he's already won a Ballon D'or and u think he's not a 1% talented dude. Messi talent shines more bcoz, he's brought up among highly technical players, Ronaldo started in England as a dazzler among more Physical and athletic players. As they grow their differences widens bcoz Techniques get better with time while athletism and speed drops with age, it requires more hardwork to keep it flowing. This makes Ronaldo looks less talented. If talent means every natural advantage we've to do better, Ronaldo athletism is talent.

Talent refers to the natural ability to grasp, innovate and execute a concept. Ronaldo and Messi are both a talented athletes and talented footballers. Ronaldo is more talented as an athlete with superior physicality overall and Messi is more talented as a footballer with superior footballing IQ. It boils down to who you prefer to watch more.

U sound so stupid saying this. Ronaldo got signed to Man Utd at an early age as their main man from sporting Lisbon. Mind u, United was arguably the best team in the World then. In no time he won Ballon D'or, Puska award, Golden boats, Scored crazier free kicks, a crazy dribbler, having one of the highest dribble completed in champions League history in Manutd. To those who watched him then he was obviously going to be the GOAT. RONALDO started as a Mid fielder, to a winger to a striker. In all roles he was scoring massively and dropping assists. Even Messi get shiver beholding Ronaldo's talent. But if you're blind you're blind

That guy is a genius. It s rare that a player is thinking about maximum efficiency. The way he can analyse his surroundings in a lapse of time is crazy. He's thinking at a different pace and better than anyone. He s simply the purest form of the perfect footballer. To be that gifted should be illegal. Idk if u can train to be like him maybe like Ronaldo. U can be inspired by Ronaldo for your training and your body but Messi it's just a gift that few in sports have. U have to be gifted u can't train for that.

I don't think Messi even thinks about being efficient. He just understands football better than anyone else in his generation.

i realized messi didnt much lift high his foots like other players, he is incredibly efficient at his foots, always keep lift low to the ground playing speed steps and gravity plays his body moves as his foots move, he even capable read defenders body moves 2 or 3 persons in everytime he had the ball, thats why he had high percentage of success of dribbling or nutmeg, this is not normal

Time is what defines our lives, we are not defined by the space inside which we exist , but by the time we spend doing something in that space.
In life, fraction of a second do not matter much. But in football it can means a goal 🥅.

Efficiency can be taught even to young players. Messi went through the learning curve and found the best way to utilize space, speed, and energy. His experiments and results are a good lesson for the young. And you think that is wrong? La Masia's results beg to differ with you.
