Brazilians never loved Messi when he arrived on the scene obviously because his Argentine but when you saw how much Ronaldinho loved him and nurtured him and then Messi and Neymar are like older and younger brothers and Messi nurtured Neymar at Barcelona, I’ve never seen so many Brazilians wanting Argentina to win the World Cup and that is because Messi is unmistakably brilliant of course but he’s just a really chilled gentle human being. He’s humble, he’s thoughtful and never let his ego get in the way of his genius. That is someone who has transcended a sport that your most fiercest rivals have warmth for you.❤

As an Argentinian I used to hate Brazil. Not the country, but their national team. Thanks to Messi’s relationship with Ronaldinho and subsequently with Neymar, they taught me that it’s ok to be rivals, but there’s no need to be enemies. Brazil has had the most amazing footballers, even tho Maradona, Di Stefano, Messi are from Argentina, there’s no denying Brazilian football has been the dominant football historically and that’s ok. Messi, being humble, has taught many of us that it’s ok to have respect for your biggest rival. It’s a sport, we are passionate about it, but it’s a sport.

I actually enjoying seeing videos of Messi's youths just as much, if not more, than his professional days' videos. We normally see geniuses or once-in-a-generation talent when they get to professional age but rarely do we get to see those people when they're young so these videos are priceless. La Liga defenders used to *try* to kick him so hard, it would be a strong risk of a red card offence, but usually they would be unsuccessful at even doing that.
This is why it always used to make me laugh that Maradona debate about how tough it used to be in the 80s- sure it was tougher in the 80s, but you really think that would stop Messi? LOL. They have to catch him to even kick him first, and when they do he has never lost his temper once that I can remember. He has the best/coolest mentality of any footballer on the planet, even though he's been the most targeted. It would be the same in the 80s- there would be more challenges, but his personality clearly shows he'd be the last footballer in any environment to be affected.

The biggest difference you see with 95% of players is that with age and experience their playstyle changes a lot depending on the team and league etc but Leo when he was 14-15 in those clips and now at 35 play almost identical and people still can’t stop him. Ofc he is slower now so can’t outrun defenders like the old days but he’s able to use his deadly passing to help others more. This is the definition of just unreal god given pure talent where he hasn’t really adapted his game at all, it’s the exact same and just altered it now due to physical limitations. That’s my GOAT 🐐

    • @juneabbott6805

He’s adapted his play - another facet of his brilliance. He’s more measured now. And his natural humility allows him to bring his play-making skills to the forefront. Messi works for his team so he’s happy to help create goals, he doesn’t have to score them. For me, this is one of things that make him exceptional. He elevates his team mates. Despite his brilliance Messi doesn’t allow his ego to get in the way of the game.

    • @PortuguesePirate99

@juneabbott6805 exactly, you slowly started to see the shift as Xavi retired he dropped back a bit to help Iniesta and then when Iniesta left he was the focal point for kick starting the whole attack which almost never starts with an attacker and is the job of the midfield yet he was able to do that and still be top scorer

Barca is one of the strongest team ever. If not now due to their current situatuon. At least in most of messi time they were. They were easily top 5 if not top 3. So to say that being a starter for a very long time in one of top 5 teams is a comfort zone is insane. But thats cr7 fans. They are slaves not fans. They will twist logic and reality to validate their goat. To please their master

And people still compare current players with Messi. Messi was not just about scoring goals. Those who have seen him from his earlier days know that Messi was a riot on the field. He messed up the defence of any team. He played pretty low earlier and used to bring the ball from the midline and score a goal and leaving the defenders of the opposite team in disarray and he was so quick. One second you see him walking, pretty much analysing the game, the field and the next second he has taken the ball and come up to the goal and surpassed the goalkeeper. I hope people including some players and pundits who took a dig at him when he was having a hard time at PSG and the people nowadays (especially journalists and reporters) who throw random comparisons with Messi take a look back at what Messi had offered on the field and Messi still offers on the field. I know that Messi's generation is literally coming to an end in terms of his career but if one thinks in symbolic terms, Messi's era would always last.
