    Nice one, I saw another tutorial today that uses Range tool which is even better if you want to try it. You can range select from your first clip to the second clip and then retime and it works quite nice and is easier than blading in my opinion, but thanks for your video too.. Helpful also.

    Nice informative video!! For vlogging a resort I believe for straight push in shots gimbal is best in lock mode right? And when camera facing me should be PF or POV? Using Zhiyun Crane M2 gimbal with Sony ZV1 camera. Thanks for your early reply. 😊👍

      Thanks dude! That’s correct. For a simple push in, just leave it in lock mode. And when the cameras facing you, I’d go with PF. That way the camera stays level with your face and doesn’t start to rotate, as it might in POV

    But what to do if I try to slow that clip down by draging on the right upper corner. And when doing that it expands not only to the right, but in both ends?😬

      Press Shift B at a specific point in the clip where you'd like the speed adjustment to be made and then drag

    Great video! But when I edit on Final Cut Pro, after changing speed with the arrow to 20x, that grey bar doesn't appear at all so I just looks like there is a fastened clip instead of the transition... what do I have to do?

      Same problem for me! Did you ever get it figured out? I can only get the gray transition control if I use the "speed ramp" feature which is hard to use.

      Hey thanks! I think what you're looking for is a tool to add motion blur to speed ramped clips, right? Check out ReelSmart Motion Blur from Revision Effects or for a free option (but not nearly as good) you could pick up MotionVFX's free pack, mMotionBlur.

    Hey, I found an issue in FCP when I do a range speed ramps, while sped up before ramping down, the image becomes terribly noisy and artifacty. Shot at 60p Anyone have a solution for this?

      Is that even the case when you export your project? Or does it just look like that on your unrendered timeline?

    Do you know if the ease in/out control is still available? When I try to speed ramp this way I don't get the gray transition bars on my clips!

      It's definitely still available. Press command R, double click the speed ramp point and select 'speed transition'. They should pop up then.

    When I blade cut a section and adjust the speed, I don't get the handles to fine-tune the clip. Like you do at 3:21(the line goes green to grayish to purple on yours but mine just goes green and purple. Do you know how I turn those on?

      Try double clicking that speed connection point and then turning 'speed transition' on. That should do it.

    I have a three second clip that I want to speed up gradually, from slow to fast. The effect is the ground approaching in a comical free fall plummet toward a rocky demise. Is there a quick way to do this or do I simply need to put in several speed ramp sections and increase them manually?

      Hey! So it sounds like you have it right. Put the speed ramps in and adjust the speed by pulling on those translucent sliders.

      Select your clip, press command R, click that little down arrow, and hit ‘normal’. Or click your clip and go to the retime button and select normal (it’s next to the transform button).

      It's there. Press command R and you should be able to see it. If not, it may be too short of a clip and it extends past the start or end of the clip. Extend the clip and you can find those ease in/ease out bars.

    **HELP!**. When I retime my clip, I don’t get the bars to ease in/out my ramps. Is there a way to get those to appear?! Help from anyone is greatly appreciated.

      Hey! So I thought I mentioned it in the video, but if you double click the retime point you’ll see something like ‘speed transition’. Turn that on and you should be set 👍

      @@dylanjohndickerson I tried it (the double click didn't work), but I went through the menu's and selected it. And I still don't get the bars to show up. I'm using FCP 10.5.3 maybe I need to update to the newest version?

      I actually have a big problem. I bought the imac 24 "1TB 16Gb ram last year. Despite this, I can hardly ever see my Final Cut works smoothly. That's why I was happy to discover, thanks to you, the ctrl R, but I still hoped that compared to a 2013 imac late there would be a big difference. My question is therefore simple. Is there something I can set or do I just have to be patient? (p.s. I work on a verbatin 2TB external SSD, but even working locally, nothing changes. Thanks for everything Dylan and good weekend 👋🏻
