I used to use the Shift+B method, but honestly I think your method gives you so much more control. Love the tips about moving the thingys to increase the smoothness too, that works really well. Thanks for the video, you have made my speed ramping work so much more enjoyable and effective!
"Changing the end frame" thank you so much for that tip, been struggling with end my speed ramps where I want them! Clear delivery too. Great channel, keep up the good work.
If you press Shift and B it creates the in point and out point on the clip also adding the speed ramping controls and then you can manually adjust the speed, which is faster method I feel.
Using the range tool to speed up to the end point looks much better than cutting a clip and just speeding it up. Thanks for the simple tutorial, going to start implementing this into future videos!
Thank you 🙏🏾 I have to say I love your teaching style it’s clear it’s concise it’s broken down with multiple examples! You have a new sub and I hope you have the time to do more tutorials! As a newbie creative this kind of information is invaluable so kudos and thank you!
i didn't know i needed this - great video Will, appreciate this a ton! Been using the jarring effect for too long. Excited to try this out. I would compare that little gray area you mentioned to the same fundamental concept of an audio fade tool - gradually eases in and out, but you can manipulate exactly how much you want it to fade in and out. Thanks again! -Brian
Personally I think you could time the ramps in and out to where you want it when the beat hits. For example, when the kick hits on a trap beat, you could start the ramp and then fade it out after the snare or something. Does that make sense? I can maybe think about making a video on it
Wow awesome tips bro keep up the great work, this was very helpful, great way to break it down and explain this, I never knew about that by using the range tool I always did it the older way and videos look all choppy. Great video happy holidays god bless
Will, a video idea - how about a video on speed ramping to music? I could really do with some help for my motorbike videos.. speed ramping to music would really help me out!!! Thank you if you can do it
Been trying to get this effect with just the shift B like someone said in the comments..... never got it this smoove and you can't... and you can't edit your edits..... only undoes... and wr all kmow they go in order like backups.... anyway Still trying to get all the very very smoove
I use the Blade speed that does the same thing and it's supposed to do that. The only downside for me it's that FCP haven't a proper way to rejoin speeds if you change your mind.
Im using exact same method, I have smooth normal speed, I have smooth fast speed but I get jumping/ choppy stutter that transition. Do you have any idea why just the transition of my panning drone is bad? I could see little bit of that jumping at your video at 4:53. Thx
Hey man, nice tutorial! I was wondering how your playback is so smooth? When I just import one clip and speedramp one section the playback is laggy/not smooth. I have just reinstalled Final Cut Pro and deleted google chrome. What can I do to make the playkback smooth when editing with high speedramp values? Cause when the playback is laggy it's impossible to fine adjust your speedramp editing points cause you basically are working with blindfolds on. I have a MacBook Pro 2023 16inch M2chip 32gb ram 1TB storage. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Question: what was the frame rate for the train video? I only have mavic pro (the original first mavic pro) and it only records in 30fps in 4k. Will I still be able to do a speed ramp like yours or should I lower the resolution to get 60fps recording. Also when you speedramp is your video in slow motion and you just speed up some parts or is it playing back with a normal speed and speed up some portions. Sorry if my questions are dumb but I’m new to speed ramping 😇
Speed ramp can work for any frame rate, so you should be good with any clip 👍 also, it depends on the goal of the clip. Do you want to speed down? Or speed up? Either will work
Just found your channel, subbed! Quick question, does it matter what time line you’re working on and the FPS? It will work with 24 30 60? Thank you in advanced
@@willhallfilms thank you for the reply Will Hall, would you recommend just shooting 60 + for “smoother speed ramping” in my head I feel if I was to shoot 24 and than attempt to speed ramp it’ll look an studdery lol even though I don’t think that’s a word haha

Yeah idk why he’s suggesting using the range tool. Shift + B much faster!
your shift B comment is very usefull! thanks dude !
Thanks.

Great to seethe Battery in Charleston in those early clips.

Legend! This is the BEST explanation and much better approach to speed ramping, thank you.
Thank you for this clear explanation. Just moved from Premiere Pro and literally couldn't understand how this worked. Thank you!!

Thank you! That’s awesome, I’m glad this video helped you out! And good point about the fading in and out. That makes sense.
You can easily press SHIFT + B rather than using range tool.
great video ...please post a easy tutorial like this about working with key frames
I’ve been adding speed ramps by using shift+b but I’m def trying your method tomorrow
Nice tutorial 👌
Easy simple explanation .. thanks ..

How would you use this method to speed ramping to music beats?
Personally I think you could time the ramps in and out to where you want it when the beat hits. For example, when the kick hits on a trap beat, you could start the ramp and then fade it out after the snare or something. Does that make sense? I can maybe think about making a video on it

Same. Only thing I can do is export the clip to actually see the results. 🙄
Try using proxies and select proxies preferred in the playback settings. It worked for me. @@vincentkonkel9627
Also select better performance instead of better quality in the playback settings + close all other apps that use CPU power.@@vincentkonkel9627
Thanks hermano
love u. u save my life
Thank you for that, but is there no like a curve interface to control the ramp up / ramp down like say in CapCut and AfterEffects?
Sadly, no...I recently switched to Davinci Resolve tho and there is that function!
@@willhallfilms Interesting, would you say it was worthwhile switching? - Do you miss anything from Final Cut?
@@DigiDriftZone it’s definitely worth it to me. Check out my latest video where I sort of lay out why I switched and what I like about it.
thanks man, your r cool!
Boomerang better is also a peculiar thing to be doing right...can you do a video on Looping/Boomerang a section without a hickup kind of thing?
Yes! Great idea. I can make a video on that for sure

I usually work on a 24p timeline and then use 60p footage slowed down to 24o

If you speed up (using 24p) and then slow back to 24 it should look fine!
@@willhallfilms I’m going to try this out thank you so much, do you have IG?
@williamhall87 - will be posting more soon and getting back on UA-cam as well. Been a busy new year but 2023 is going off
