This is my reaction to Knallerfrauen - Gute Nacht Lied (Martina Hill)
In this video I react to German comedy sketch show Knallerfrauen from German comedian Martina Hill in which she sends her child to sleep with a rendition of Firestarter by The Prodidgy.

Martina Hill was cast along with 5 or 6 other comedians in the German comedies “switch” and “switch reloaded”, which parodied news, documentaries. television series and daily soaps. That was very funny. She then got her own show “Knallerfrauen”. That was already very slapstick. I didn't think it was that good anymore.
Martina hill is one of the best and funniest comedians in German TV.
She in the same league with her characters like Max Gierman.

I remember the Prodigy being quite popular in the 90s/early 2000s during the dance/trance/techno era. I haven't heard much of them since then in Germany, but I also stopped going to clubs etc around that time too.

I have heard that much of Martina Hill productions have been sold to chinese TV because she did a lot of pieces that work without much words and can be translated or subtitled easily, without losing their humour. Martina maybe is the most popular german tv celebrity in China.
One of my favourite sketches of her is "Schwarzmalerei"

Prodigy got very popular in german first time the song "No good" was played on music television "Viva" and of course MTV. I think that was the song, which got them into mainstream. Finally "Breath" and "Firestarter" make them famous.
I love her! I used to watch her show at Friday nights :) One of my favourite clips is „Willkommensgeschenk“ (welcome present)

My favourite skit form her is "Einparkhilfe Papa" from Knallerfrauen. It's playing with the rumor that woman can't drive and that they also can't park cars and her father wants to marshal her. You should check it out. It's amazing.

Gute Nacht Lied means lullaby
Some years ago this comedy shows with short sketches were very popular. Beside of "Knallerfrauen" there were "Die dreisten drei", "Ladykracher" with Anke Engelke, "Sechserpack" and of course "Sketch history". Unfortunately there is not very much with english subtitles.
One of the best is "Glastür". No translation needed...just watch 😂
Knall, the K is pron. like in khan, not mute like in knight, "khnal", means bang. "Einen Knall haben" my dict. translate with "to be round the bend". A "Knaller/frau" is a woman a bit idiotic, bonkers, chaotic, full of unusual and strange ideas. But here it's not meant negatively, but appreciatively: A strong woman who masters life in unusual ways (cp. "ridiculous" which can be used in a negative or positive sence). And this is shown here. Instead of singing a lullaby, she sings Firestarter, but reaches her aim to get the child sleeping. ... Pretty funny.

I understand "Knaller" as in "etwas ist der Knaller" = something is extraordinarily good. Like the women from "Knallerfrauen" are "der Knaller", which probably is meant in a kind of self-deprecating way. "Ein Knaller" can also be a really funny joke. So they are REALLY great and funny women. But maybe there's also a double meaning with "einen Knall haben".

I think Martina Hill creates decent comedy. Another female comedian who is or was (I don't know exactly) rather successful would be Anke Engelke, who I remember co-hosted some international thing here in Germany one time, with many celebs from Hollywood (I don't remember what it was). She has/had a sketch show call "Ladykracher". However, to me it always seemed like German sketch comedy, especially the ones made by female comedians, kind of tried to copy British and probably also American shows (but maybe they copied things, too, I don't know).🤷♀️

You have watched some of her work before but you might not have recognized her ^_^ In your video "Reaction To heute-show (Brexit: Dear Brits, please LEAVE ALREADY!)" for example, she was playing the role of the tutor Tina Hausten. There are also several other roles potrayed by her within the "heute-show"

German doesnt have the silent k at the beginning of words.
I found several translations for Knaller. It could mean banger, firecracker, sensation or bombshell but none of them carry any sexual connotations.
So if I freely translate Knallerfrauen as "banger women", please keep this in mind and in turn your mind out of the gutter. :)

Gute Nacht Lied, Schlaflied, and Wiegenlied are all one and the same. So, in my opinion, the translation should be "lullaby." 🤔
