I'm at the beginning of your projector portion, but you will love being able to make your FBAs digitally, but MEANTIME, instead of sending off to the printers, you can still do it with the projector for ALL the areas that aren't different and then the FBA pieces can be projected onto paper, traced, and cut and the adjustment done quickly. It really is SO fast to do. It can be traced off quicker than you can go onto the Printing companies' website and get it ordered. Ok. Continuing on...

I'm so happy you are being sponsored by Kai. I got my first Kai scissors when I started garment sewing during the pandemic at a quilt fabric shop! I just went to the site to order the professional set, but it's sold out :( At least I get to try the rotary blade. I love that it's free US shipping and thanks for the discount code!!! I'll keep checking back for the pro set. Thank you for also sharing your projector set up. I didn't think it would be possible for me to try projector patterns since I can't hang it from above. Now I know there are projectors that work from the side. Your videos are always so helpful for my sewing journey.

The good: I fervently agree with your recommendation of these scissors. I lucked into a pair a year or two ago and was surprised at what a difference there is between Kai and their most well known competitor. They’re also better for my arthritic hands than the spring-assisted ones I’ve used. I use my rotary cutter much less frequently now even for long straight cuts because the Kai are so light, smooth, and easy to use. The bad: It really puts me off when my favourite podcasters broadcast live lengthy endorsements of the products that sponsor them. It matters not that you believe in the product. A 12 minute commercial is a 12 minute commercial and I feel more like a sales target than a fellow sewist.
ETA: This in addition to all the other ads that interrupt the episode. Three interruptions so far and I bet there’ll be at least one more.

My Mom and I took a beginner quilting class over 40 years ago. She bought a pair of Kai shears and they are still beautiful to use. She just passed and now my Dad is the keeper of the shears. Let's just say that he was given the "talk" and he knows to never ever use the shears on paper! Someday I will be the proud owner of a pair of Kai shears. Can't wait.

Love my Kais. When I broke right wrist ages ago I couldn't cut fabric. Kai scissors were a game changer. They're my go to brand. I need to try their rotary cutter because the blades on my current cutters get dull after a couple of uses.

Thank you so much for this video. I agree with you on those little Kai black handled scissors with the bent blades. They are fabulous for getting under tight and tiny stitches needing to be removed. I also appreciate this video and your efforts making it. It showed me a lot I was wondering about. I have learned I do not want to do projector cutting at all. A lot of my joy of sewing is the manipulation of fabric and paper/tissue at the early design stage, particularly in pattern prep. I know many don't care for this stage but it is my favorite and where my brain's dreams leap out of my hands. Projector sewing is definitely not for me. Thanks for the education.

Of course I’ve heard about projector sewing for some time but didn’t really know if it was something I’d be interested in. I mistakenly thought you needed to buy a whole (and expensive) system. I had a projector from teaching and decided to see if it would work, even though it’s not a short-throw model. It took some doing but my husband and I got it up and perfectly calibrated with the Project and Sew software. I’ve quite a bit of experience with vector-based software so I look forward to using that knowledge to create or alter patterns. Anyway, thank you so much for encouraging me to give this a try. I cut out my first garment today and loved it.

Kia scissors is the best, I hit a pin while cutting out which caused a nick in the blade, sent them to Kia to sharpen and they are like new. Well worth the investment. I was wondering when you would get on the projector train 😂 glad you did.

Projector cutting looks very interesting and ... foreign to me, since I'm used to sewing from the Dutch/German pattern magazines (Knipmode/Burda style), but I'm kind of intrigued. I got Kai scissors for my birthday last year after having used a cheap pair of scissors since 1988 from a discount department store and what a difference these Kai scissors make, they're so easy to use, lightweight and sharp. It makes cutting fabrics so much easier; one of the best birthday presents ever :-)

I also have an epson short throw that I got off ebay probably from the same person you did. I wonder if yours is an ultra short throw. Mine is attached to the ceiling on a mount that hangs down about 12 inches from the ceiling. It throws a pretty big area like 4' x 6'. It was like $139 which isn't bad. I am impressed that you learned how to shorten and lengthen the patterns. I just trace off the pattern if I need to make any alterations but doing it digitally would be awesome! I am so excited for you!

I've heard some really great things about Kai scissors. I'm left handed and so are two of my three children. I was in Officeworks getting school supplies at the beginning os the year (also our beginning school year) and was talking with another parent who was trying to find left handed scissors for their child. Because we are left handed we get to know first hand what warrants true left handed scissors and I was so disappointed to find they were only offering right handed scissors. We have a Left handed shop in Australia and that is where I buy most of our scissors - they have duckbill scissors that are left handed and I know they also have true left handed sewing scissors, I believe they might stock Kai also. I have found some inexpensive left handed scissors at Spotlight (in Australia of course) and they are fine but I like to use rotary cutters when cutting my garments out. It's easier and faster and you don't suffer from hand fatigue. Fascinated by the project sewing. I don't have a designated space to have a projector but I do know it is increasing in popularity. I was a paper pattern person until I lost most of my patterns in a cyclone when it flooded my sewing room. I go with pdf at the moment now. It's easier to print off instead of waiting ages for the pattern to turn up.

I have two pair of Kai tailoring shears, an 8" (7205) and a 10" (7250SE) micro-serrated upper blade. I also have a pair of their nippers setting beside my SM. They are much lighter than my Gingher shears and absolutely DO cut like butter. I have an extensive set of Ginghers, but have switched to the Kais for cutting out garments since they are such a joy to use.

I’m doing the Cashmerette sloper school and so far I’ve done all my pattern alterations digitally. I honestly don’t think it would be that hard for you. One thing I think I do differently than some of the videos I’ve seen is I just think about which lines need to move vs thinking of the pattern as blocks like they would be in paper… not sure if that makes sense but hopefully it does.

I thought the same, but I have just bought a used projector as I want to speed up the tracing and alteration process and save money in the long run. Patterns are pricey these days and the printing on top then the time it takes to trace or tape together etc. each pattern could cost easy £20 before my time input, no brainer for me, my time is the most precious, just need to figure out if any pdf can be printed using a projector or just projector files.
