Which is: *IMPROVED VISIBILITY.*

It was just too much to give players who bought the D.A sails an alternate option for all sails to have them also with the "v cut" available. 😏

You know I was also very tired of seeing D.A sails everywhere.

Oh well as someone who prefers the Sloop and knows that bigger ships suffer more from a lack of D.A sails, I guess I will take my glee with a grain of sugar here. 👏😌

In my opinion the tactical advantage was worth that money they should of kept it! Plus, they didn't seem to have a problem with it since release why are they so pissy about it now?

In my eyes this is lazyness from the developers even when they once stated that all changes in the game are supposed to be entirely cosmetic.
And nothing was ever supposed to give you some kind of "lvl up advantage".
Which the D.A sails did. Improved visibility are a level up. An advantage.
But now players got comfy with it and also spend 8 million gold on it.
Not much for the true no-lifers but well, now everyone is becoming a victim of false advertisement.
I'd like to see sail shape and pattern be split into two seperate options. That way you can mix and match your favorite shape with your favorite print.

@@duncanidaho5834 he only mentioned the one but, the news reel also mentioned the intent to nuke/redesign the "Lunar sails" from the Pirate Emporium. Will be curious to see what else they are redesigning in the process.

Actually that's not what rare said. What Rare said is they want return to the design policy of crews needing to communicate between crewmen, because the pilot isn't able to see past the MIDDLE SAIL.
They specifically say middle sail.
So this could mean their only changing the sail shape on gally's botom middle sail. But I suspect what they'll actually do is significantly reduce the size of the cutouts on all ships.
Either way, I'd still like to be able to choose shape and pattern seperately.

That much gold for Dark adventures if they're going to nerf it lower the price or give buyers a refund .
My friend just bought the DA sails last week and he was mad when I told him about the change. I think everything discussed in that video is a net positive. I never even heard of the hourglass exploit but I am happy people that abused that are getting what they deserve. I know Rare is getting a lot of hate from certain parts of the community, but I still love sea of thieves and can’t wait to see new changes in the future.
I have to ask, what change did you tell him abouttl exactly? Am I missing where they clearly stated they will be changing the sails? They did not state that in the video, see my above comment for what was actually said in the video.
@@Hes008 In the video, they said they are going to be getting rid of any sail designs that give a big viewing advantage over other sails. Some sails will still have rips and tears, but the DA slit is going to get removed or made much smaller.
@@Hes008 just found your comment and I do agree that they use ambiguous language. I could mean 1 of 2 things in my book, what I mentioned in the reply above, or they are adding sail shapes to the game, which would be a lot more work but cool. I would honestly be fine with either
All sails have a mode where you can see under them. Lower the sails to 80% and your visibility doesn't suffer, and you're just slightly slower than before. Obviously if you need the speed, lower them the rest of the way, but I'm okay to take 10 minutes to get somewhere instead of 8 minutes in the game if it allows me to see.
I hope that removing the cut is a temporary balance solution giving them time to implement selectable sail shapes. It would be cool to switch between the normal shape, a bottom cutout, and a ragged look on all sails except those few designed to have a specific look. I wouldn't mind having a battleworn look with burn marks and canonball holes as an available option.
Except nothing in Rare's video suggests that is the case, they explicitly said that the shape of that sail was not originally intended to be an advantage and that after the redesign that advantage will be removed and a helmsman on a larger ship will again need to rely on information from their crew to effectively steer the ship even if it is using the dark adventurer sails. That means no more cutouts on those sails or any others, maybe you get left with some of the others with holes in them but that seems like the most you can reasonably be hoping for at this point.

I'm hoping that this "nerf" is a temporary quick fix because they have so much on the plate but work on a longer fix that lets us select various sail shapes. I'm thinking of about 3 or 4 options from square, a bottom cut, old and worn, and battle torn. I would love to see more options of how to dress the ship.

People are just not getting it. I don’t give af about the cut out of the DA sails. The point is they took 8m gold for an item with a unique attribute and now changing the design. That 8m took me a shit tonne of time to earn. I’ve lost all confidence in Rare’s bs decision making.
I will sell them my house then give them a cardboard box, seems fair.
They should add something like sail shapes, instead of taking away DA sail advantage, just give the other sails the options of having the same shapes, they should also add new cool shapes, so we can have different sail skins on different sail shapes.
They aren't doing that, in the video they say helming a bigger ship should require cooperation due to the lack of visibility, and the DA sails defeat that game principle (that's rare's oppinion, not mine)

I'm glad that it will be clear I'm using the set for the looks and price when the sails are changed.
If i had a dollar for every ship ive seen that had the full DA set, i wouldn't even have enough to buy a bottle of water.
However if i had a penny for every complete naked ship with the only the DA sails ive seen, i would be able to outright buy Rare from Microsoft.

Thank you so much for mentioning that the dark adventurer sails where just supposed to be a flex and never intended to give a strategic advantage, people need to stop asking for a refund for an IN GAME COSMETIC that they weren't even using for the correct reason

Please make an advanced solo sailor guide =) I am only playing solo but I feel like I am missing out a lot of activities either because I just don’t know it or I never try them alone
There are plenty of them out there already - fellow solo slooper - depending upon if you are looking for PvE or PvP guides. Just browse about and you will find, at least 2 of each (minimum)
Phuzzybond has tons of great solo guides. Not really falcore’s thing
I hopped on with my duo partner after a 4 month break, server was unplayable, rubber banding mostly.
The crew we logged out on were having the same experience, no one was happy.
At the Dark Adventure sails part, I couldn't agree more.
One thing falcore:
Pop up plunder is not fun, couz this is not ingame-event.
Also that pop up notification is annoying as hell, also it's bugged and returns each time you dive for battle, damn it...
Glad to see that my sails won't be changed anymore. Like do people not realize that you can raise the sails a little bit up to be able to see?
I was hoping that they'd just give all the other sails a tapered option. The visibility was nice.

Nice to see Rare cracking down on all of the PVP exploits and making it harder to do as well as making it less fun. Making ships harder to sink, removing alternative boarding methods, now removing quick swapping and fixing the field of view sails. Even fixing glitches that allowed players that do nothing all day but play the ability to gain money and rep even faster than they should. Rare's finally providing push back on the whole, "I'll do whatever I want and there's nothing you can do about it" mentality the community of SoT has had for far too long. Slowly they are truly balancing the game so it just comes down to who can land the better shots, and not who can grab an interactive part of the ship to teleport behind others the best.
Up until recently I'm reminded of the FMJ MG users in the old COD games, spray hundreds of bullets that go through the map in the general direction of the enemy and eventually one of them will hit for a head shot. Then they scream about being the best gamer ever. Just like the players of SoT hiding as barrels at outpost to then jump out and double gun people in the back while they are bringing in their loot.
Still super excited for safer seas coming next month, will be able to make all the gold I want, grab a few curses, and just pop back into high seas to buy a ship when I have enough then go right back to SS. And there's nothing the "Greatest Pirates to ever live" can do about it. And I don't think my friends and I will ever get bored of SS, because a boat load of loot from a few hours of adventuring at 30% the value is still worth more than that same few hours of getting blown out of the water over and over with nothing to show for it. And we will not "get better" because...

We just want to relax and have fun, because unlike most of you, we actually have jobs and a life and responsibilities in that life. We are contributing members of society that don't have all day for multiple days in a row to sit in front of a screen and yo-ho it up all the time.
This is why this game sucks now, we cater to the weak instead of pirates.

The same things you want Rare to bring to the game are the things you complain about now. You refuse to do anything yourself, instead you steal from everyone else until everyone stops doing the events. Then you want Rare to add more events that once again you will not do and will eventually drive everyone else to not do.
Not a single one of you can even come to an agreement as to what it even is you want.
You hate players that just log out and give you everything, you hate players that run from you while dumping loot to let it despawn, you really hate it when all of those players quit playing just like you wanted because now you actually have to work for your prize.
You keep telling everyone to stop playing "your" game then cry when everyone does just that.
You say how great it is that all the trash will take itself out to SS, then turn around and throw a fit because "ThE sErVeR's WiLl Be DeAd, (T-T)", happy that only "true pirates" will be left in HS, but furious because that means you will only be facing players either just as good as or better than you.
You already have everything you actually want from all of the shops, with millions left over. So now the only enjoyment you can get now is preventing anyone else from enjoying the game.
You constantly berate everyone saying how "unfair" it is for us to be able to get stuff without a hassle, when you started playing and pretty much only play in the points in time when new content drops and everyone is more focused on figuring out the new stuff to be on the hunt for you. Basically, you didn't have to fight all that hard for what you have and now that you have it you want to prevent anyone else from getting it.
If you're such an amazing "pirate" then you should be over the moon that in a few weeks it will be just you and all the other "pirates" in the HS and you can all spend all day everyday blowing each others heads off for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

If you're on Discord there's plenty of communities (including the official SoT one) that posts the pop up plunder. There are some that even have other users figure out where the plunder is on the island and post the updated maps within minutes. That's how I got a couple myself soloing last community weekend and I don't have Twitter either. Good luck in the next one!
@@Neccoguy21 I don't have any social media or apps like that. I have no interest in them. I'm glad there in more spots then one, but I dislike that you need out of game information to actually get things in the game.
They have a message board in game that is just sitting there, essentially useless. They could easily put them up on that and make them in game maps and Riddles
@@ripperdjak6224 I understand the frustration with having to rely on external sources to engage in a certain event, but ultimately what you get out of it is gold, and we all know that's not hard to come by. There are so many different activities you can do to earn gold in-game, I think it's ok for them to implement one every now and then where the point of it is to get other people/gamers to take notice of the game and get active players to pay attention to their social spaces.
Whether we like it or not, we are nearing the year 2024 where it's hard to find a company that's not trying to push people to their social media. I'm with you, I don't use the big ones like Twitter, Facebook, insta, etc. yet here we both are, socially, on youtube. Not even you can say you're devoid of all social media.

What bothers me about the DA Sail update is that it isn't our fault that we wanted to have the best sail for the best visibility. It's a no brainer to get a sail that lets you see that much better. So when I went for it and the part that I bought it for is taken away it just sucks. I didn't even buy it to be a sweat or PVP or anything like that... I just bought it for the convenience of visibility on the galleon with my buddies. I'm not even that upset but at the same time I would've loved to use that 8m on so many other things and now I feel like my times a bit wasted man... I feel like this is just way too late to be acting like this is now an issue. I just cant understand why Rare feels the need to update certain things so so late to the point where I assumed that was the point of those sails. I only bought the sails like a month ago now too lol.

I won two hourglass matches over the last double XP weekend and they removed both of those matches progress off of my guild. Thanks rare. Didn't know playing the game was an exploit. I'll stop doing that
Don't get me wrong I like what they're going to do with sails and how they're going to balance it out, but I do like the idea of different shaped sails like you could switch out the back Mast on a galleon to a triangular shaped sail that way it could catch wind from the sides but also it'd look more like a traditional pirate ship in my opinion

So sea of thieves is basically removing all of your reputation for everything just for sinking the same crew twice? Gotta love this game when they just basically hard lock almost every account with skeleton curse just because they sunk the same crew twice.

To the people crying about DA sails. I will give you the same piece of advice given to those of us who learned how to quickswap before Season 10:
If you need to use it to play normally, it's a crutch. If you normally win using it, you'll probably still win. :)

Who's it benefitting by patching it? Who's is affecting? When do the veterans players get something to keep them on the game they invested so much time into?
I'd assume it's affecting people who play on larger ships. I am a veteran player, and I agree that they need something to keep us playing since Guilds are just more of the same. That said, in 2023 it takes like 20 something hours to get 8 million gold if you're smart about it. Dark Adventurer sails have been the calling card of 'sweats' or 'Alliance Server Andys' for like 2 years now.@@InbredJed82060
I bought the DA sails mostly because I really like their cool and unique character, as long as that remains for all I care they make them harder to use.
Capn I'm curious to the chairs that are on islands that you cannot sit on but they face other islands and you sail there and another chair is found
If they should remove rep from anyone it should be people who live in alliance servers, not saying hg exploiters shouldn't get rank reduction but I think alliance players should get rank and gold reduction as they're essentially exploiting too

why not just make the cut worth 8.5 mill and you can use them on any sail you want? That way it brings back cosmetics and brings down the over inflated economy in this game.
How is the change to dark sails a good thing. Didn't buy them to say hey I'm rich. Bought them so I could see.

I personally am ok with the DA changes. I like creating cool ship designs but mixing and matching pieces from different sets but since my crew and I do a lot of Gally HG we always use DA sails cause there absolutely is a slight advantage. I would like to use sails to fit my ships color scheme and theme but want to win more.
However, is it possible that Rare is choosing NOW to make this update so that it will encourage people to adopt different sails than the DA sails and thus increasing their emporium sales? Something to think about....
If they wanted to increse emporium sales they could simply add a DA-style flag to the cash shop.

What exactly is the advantage that dark adventurer sail provides? Genuinely curious
You technically don't have to adjust the sails because of the fact that it has a huge cut in it. On sloop this doesn't really matter but on Galleon and Brigantine it's a HUGE advantage.

Sorry to make a new comment responding to another comment, but if @josiahbecker3703 can run his mouth, so can I. Basically, Josiah thinks that when they remove people's Guild levels (due to them doing the exploit) they should still keep their hourglass Allegiance. I disagree, as do many people.
Josiah's reasoning is that some people don't have time to do HG every day, and that the majority of players lose in hourglass far too often. But that's exactly the point. The PvP curses aren't meant for the average player. They're meant for people who are willing to put in the time, effort, and dedication to get them. If every Joe Schmoe had the curse, it wouldn't be special at ALL.
Think of it this way. Let's say you won an Olympic Golf medal after months and months of training and hard work. You would be super proud of yourself, right? But what if some guy takes steroids and immediately gets a gold medal too? How would you feel? And if the Olympics found out he cheated, do you really think he should keep the medal because he just "didn't have to time to train"? Of course not.
To conclude, stop complaining about your ill-gotten gains being taken away, and if you don't have time to let the curse, then don't. YOU DON'T NEED IT.
And if you're getting shit on in hourglass, that's your problem, buddy. Git gud
what your saying the people that made the game are stupid and they have no idea what they are doing about the game because the DA sails where in the game a long time with out any change. Because what your saying the people that made the DA sails misunderstood the point of the game because rare made them knowing they can see better under them you do know when they made them they knowing they could see a little better. So its rare that is the problem for making them in the first place then blaming everyone else for there mistakes like a crazy person. Also lying to everyone about the reason lmao. i think if rare is ging to change the sail to a normal square look like all the others they need to take the old ones away/delete them give ppl there money back from the old ones and allow them to make the choice to rebuy the new ones because most ppl bought them only because of the advantage of sight with the V cut personaly i would choose not to have them if they wernt v cut because i think they are overused and bland/ugly not to mention the pricetag i only own them due to the ability to see from the helm when they are equiped
I have had so many issues with the eye of reach this season:
1. Hitreg is still a big problem especially when shooting farther distances.
2. About 60% of the time when I land a shot from one ship to another, I don't get a hitmarker despite the fact that I hit him.
3. Aye of reach doesn't reload even if I don't skip the last bit of the reload animation.
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY disagree! If I had spent EIGHT million gold on some sails that improved my visibility while sailing solo and Rare takes that away without a refund..I would quit the game and I love this game. It wouldn't be a "me problem". It's literally robbing me of 8 million gold. What other reason would I spend that much gold on some sails. Alot of players bought those sails for that reason. I think they should leave it alone. I'm glad I never got around to buying them now.

@@Cliffjumper-iu4kt i never meant IRL money. i meant game money. and in any game where devs respect even a shred of their player's time, if they change something within the gameplay that players had to invest currency in, they usually give either full or partial refund, which, there is nothing wrong with that. let player have a refund, and everyone will be happy. because the OVERWHELMING majority bought it for the cutout, and RARE knew what this sail was used for. for a LONG time. so yes, if they nerf it ( it's a good thing ) they should refund people, because they clearly intended this sail to give an advantage. why? cause they made it themselves, they tested it in game, they SAW it gave an advantage, and went with it anyway.

@@ExileTwilight well I was doing hourglass in a guild ship, I only got my guild to rank 4, and like 10+ Athena levels, so I’m just worried if I was unintentionally doing the exploit without knowing it was an exploit
@@nickh3205i think it was something where you would get your firend in the server and some glitch would cause them to sink over and over again getting infinite streaks

@@nickh3205it works like this: a mate from the other crew invades them and votes on scuttle and change seas then he alt f4s in the blackscreen, he loads back into the game and with luck he will be in the same server forever being stuck in a game

Nope. They said that the DA sails violated the intended design principle that helms should not be able to be completely effective without communication with the crew. And they're removing all the cutouts.
I love how instead of making other sails have the same advantage, they just nerf DA. cool cool cool cool cool cool

Don't know the details, but seems to be some way to ensure you face the same crew repeatedly, so you could face another ship from your guild and have a pre-determinate win and benefit on both ends.. That's what I heard at least, but grain of salt and all that.

How do i know? I spawncamped a loser doing it and only stopped when he said how it is done (i sank him so he lost his streak aswell)
