    Thank you for the tour. Love touches of the Nordhavn design: galley on the starboard side (head on the port side), berth/head behind the pilot house, and when you can find it twin main engines

    My absolute fav Nord! The new 68’s are killer, but I’d be looking at a 2010 or so, for affordability. I’m so close! Just retired and getting used to being a “pensioner” but an older 68 is doable for me. I’ve just moved to the west coast of Canada but will happily sell my new home for the right Nord 68!
    Peace.

    Thank you for the tour. Great looking yacht. Why does Nordhavn continue to stick with one main engine, the rule for ocean crossing is two.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  10 місяців тому

      Owl: Thank you, she is a wonderful Nordhavn 68. More single engine Nordhavns (recreational trawlers) have crossed oceans than all other similar class production models combined (OK, I don't have the actual factual on that, but I would challenge anyone to dispute this). They are reliable, robust and well designed. The back up wing engine is there if needed. Maybe breaking the "rules" changes the standards? Thank you for watching.

    I don't understand why the 57' has a captains quarters behind the bridge, but the 68', 11 foot longer, has only a day bed.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  2 роки тому +1

      Falney: A lot of choices for the original buyer. I think you may be referring to the 55 with the captain cabin? One of the fun parts of building new is making selections to use the space the way you think is best.

    • @Falney

      @@JeffMerrillYachts I'm looking at buying a boat. I'd love to buy new then I can make the choice. Money isn't the thing restricting me from doing so, my patience is. :) that and I have no experience. I could buy a second hand boat tomorrow and crash it the next day, or buying a brand new one and crashing it next year.

      @sparkyguitar0058 2 роки тому +1

      @@Falney Good thing about buying a Nordhavn is they will take you through the operations of each part of your new ship. At least that's what they said in other videos. Then you can crash it after you supposedly know what you're doing. Anyway if you feel you need it have a crew run your ship for you and you can blame someone else. I myself would want a small enough ship to run it myself. That means about 55 ft length maximum I feel.

    • @Falney
      @Falney 2 роки тому +1

      @@sparkyguitar0058 from what I understand, 55-65 is pretty much the safe limit for a solo Dock. But I'm not experienced.
      I've still not picked a boat. Looked at lots, but not committed yet.
      I like the nordhavn boats, but if I was to solo, I think I'd go with a steel Hull that way it will be the Dock and everyone else's boats that will sink and not mine when I inevitably plough bow in to a wooden Dock.
      I'm going to hire a captain for the first year.

      @@Falney Your 1st comment made me laugh but this 1 I spit up drink up my nose. You should be a comedian. You know you'll be alright. Your smart enough to make the money to afford this floating bathtub your smart enough not to sink it. Also Nordhavn are 6 in thick at the hull line. Would even take a direct hit on the rocks and not sink. You will be able to break docks and other boats. Steel will rip, remember the Titanic !

    Where is the size limit, when you need a crew?

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  3 роки тому +5

      Bert: It's the captain's license that is the requirement. Generally around 70' you need a credential, it depends upon which state, country, etc. Most Nordhavns under 86' are owner operated, but often one or both of the couple do have a captain's license.

      Two considerations: legal requirements and owner capabilities/needs. Legal requirements vary country to country, state to state. Where I live basically anything under 24 meters in length can be operated by any competent 15 year old, at least if not sailing abroad. Longer than 24 meters a skipper's licence in needed for everybody actually handling the boat. Nordhavn owners typically do not have a full crew in boats under 80 feet, maybe just an engineer/captain because the maintenance takes a lot of time and and some expertise.
