Jeff, Polly and Don are remarkable mariners. We love to see them at Coral this year once restrictions are more liberal. We plan to berth our 60 Hatteras at Coral this coming March. Fito and the Coral crew are the best. Great video. Thank you
Interesting. I will never get to be on such a boat but it is good to get a view of how the passage went on her. Thanks. From freezing cold Scotland. Hopefully Covid restrictions lift for me to get sailing and sea kayaking in the summer.
Ok, really cool thank you. But for the largely craving for knowledge types like me, I'd like to see the full prep. The sequences, of disconnecting from shore facility, lighting up the onboard systems, throwing in the dock lines, stowing, do you crank up and check steerage and systems before or after you disconnect, using the plotter and how you navigate the port, etc etc etc. Just because, man, I've never seen or experienced such a thing before.
Aguy: Thanks, this was just an overview. More details on start up could be a different future video that is one I have contemplated. Thanks for your note!
Smokeyham: Only you can prevent...wait, oh, thanks for watching. Another time for a tour, this is not a for sale video, just an underway and most of it happens in the pilothouse and engine room.
USS Makin Island (LHD-8) Amphibious Assault Ship. when you said it looked like an aircraft carrier I thought it might be this one that is home ported in San Diego, CA. It has been a long time since I was stationed in SD. I enjoyed our passage. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Makin_Island_(LHD-8)
Bulldawg: Thank you, I never know what is going to happen or what I'm going to say or what the reaction will be once we post, but this video has been very well received.
it reminded me of my days during the 70s as a sailor when I have to work on the bridge as a look out, during that time, we do not have GPS , we relied very much on echo sounder, radar , compass and our plot chart for navigation
Mee: The technology today is almost unfair, and really offers no excuse for a bad decision. Improvements keep coming, I don’t like the idea of self driving boats, what will be the fun in that? Your tried and true skills are better than any of the electronics with buttons, but the new nav com is pretty cool.
@@JeffMerrillYachts Those olden days, our experience and judgement in navigation play a vital role . We learned through a hard way and there is no modern equipment to show us the way. Our instinct is our judgment, thank you again for uploading such a wonderful video clip.
I have watched the video numerous times. Great job by all. This video is everything I dream Of. The only thing that would of made it better if it was slightly longer to include some of the more technical stuff. We want to know what it’s like to be a virtual captain and see all the procedures, screens, buttons etc exactly as if we were there
Hull#2 is the USS Essex LHD-2(Landing Helicopter Dock) and #8 is the USS Makin Island LHD-8. They are both amphibious assault ships that carry helicopters, Osprey and soon, the F35 and they have an inner dock that can carry amphibious vehicles. Best of luck to your family member and I enjoyed this video!
Never ever gets boring watching the Dolphins and the Porpoises riding the bow waves of the boat, I know if I had something like the Nordhavn I would always be out on her

Great video, every time I go to San Diego for work I always will tack on an extra day or two and stay at the Hilton San Diego at harbor island. It’s a great hotel to ship/yacht watch and the views back towards the Harbor into the city are amazing. Several years ago I joined a family friend and helped him bring their 60 foot Sea Ray from St. Louis Missouri to Saint Pete beach via the Mississippi River and then into the gulf, watching you two up on the bridge watching the plot/track brought back great memories. Great content

@@JeffMerrillYachts We are at Sunroad now and leaving for our first Catalina Two-Harbors trip soon.
Really great video interesting and fun to watch
S and T: Thank you!
those low number navy ships were most likely LHA's (Landing Helicopter Assault) which are amphibious assault ships.
Right on John ........ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Essex_(LHD-2)
John: Thank you, that makes sense as Capt. Doug Conwell, my son in law, is an Osprey pilot.
We need more videos like this! And the one you trained a crew... best trawler videos on UA-cam, they are scarce...
Esquinog: Thank you, I'm encouraged to do more. Appreciate your note!
Fantastic thank you for sharing.
Scott: Thank you for your nice note!
Jeff, Polly and Don are remarkable mariners. We love to see them at Coral this year once restrictions are more liberal. We plan to berth our 60 Hatteras at Coral this coming March. Fito and the Coral crew are the best.
Great video. Thank you
Jose: Thank you, it's a great community and I'm sure you will all get together. Yes, Fito and the Coral team are exceptional.
Very informative video, nice boat, nice people - thank you!
Matt: Thank you for watching and commenting, nice to have you along.
@@JeffMerrillYachts You are most welcome!
Interesting. I will never get to be on such a boat but it is good to get a view of how the passage went on her. Thanks. From freezing cold Scotland. Hopefully Covid restrictions lift for me to get sailing and sea kayaking in the summer.
Jimmy: You Tube is not the same, but I hope this warmed you up a bit!
@@JeffMerrillYachts Thank you, nothing like people telling you how much more work you could do for them, eh? :-)
Thanks Jeff! You’re the man.
Thank you for watching and your nice note!
Daaaamn, it was fantstic trip and video!!!
917: Thank you for watching and joining us on this short excursion!
You guys are pros and having too much fun.
Pete: I don’t know about the pro part, but we are having fun!
Thanks so much! A beautiful boat and a very well narrated. Would love to have a tour of the some of the interior spaces.
Smokeyham: Only you can prevent...wait, oh, thanks for watching. Another time for a tour, this is not a for sale video, just an underway and most of it happens in the pilothouse and engine room.
@@JeffMerrillYachts Great response! :) Love the Nordhavn's :)
USS Makin Island (LHD-8) Amphibious Assault Ship. when you said it looked like an aircraft carrier I thought it might be this one that is home ported in San Diego, CA. It has been a long time since I was stationed in SD. I enjoyed our passage.

Awesome! Looked like a blast!
Tcat: Thank you, it was a fun way to start out the day!
Smart comment about looking back to see where one came from!
Ray: Thanks, easy to get disoriented so nice to know if you do retreat that you are returning to the correct location. Thank you for watching.
Thank you please do more like that
Bulldawg: Thank you, I never know what is going to happen or what I'm going to say or what the reaction will be once we post, but this video has been very well received.
it reminded me of my days during the 70s as a sailor when I have to work on the bridge as a look out, during that time, we do not have GPS , we relied very much on echo sounder, radar , compass and our plot chart for navigation
This video is everything I dream
Of. The only thing that would of made it better if it was slightly longer to include some of the more technical stuff. We want to know what it’s like to be a virtual captain and see all the procedures, screens, buttons etc exactly as if we were there
David: Thank you. Based on the response we have had to this video we will try to do some more and focus on other aspects.
good onfo at the end job well done to all thank you!!!!!!!!
Joe: You are welcome and Thank you for your comments!
Joe: Thank you! Very proud father in law and appreciative of all who have and do serve.
Awesome trip! And such lovely hosts too ;-)
BushTherapy: Thanks, it was a fun run and the best part was the time with Don and Paulie, thanks for watching.
Great content... Thank you.
Pedro: Thank you!
Never ever gets boring watching the Dolphins and the Porpoises riding the bow waves of the boat, I know if I had something like the Nordhavn I would always be out on her
Peter: I agree, we had to edit that footage down I was up on the bow for 30 minutes and even though they are way more interesting than me, I needed to get back to crewing.
Always fun to do a trip on OPBs. Other peoples boats! LOL. Nice video.
Kev: Agree, we say OPT, same thing!
Excellent video...always informative and special. It took me back to my sailing days near the Coronado islands. As we say in Mexico, 'Vale la Pena' or worth the effort!
Jim: Well worth the effort and thank you for watching and your nice comment!
NBNG (like your handle): Thank you for chiming in and for your nice comments!
Great fun work professionalism jeff looks like was having a blast
JP: One of the lucky guys with a job he loves!
this was an awesome video. It really puts into perspective the details and work put into operating a Nordhavn.
Andrew: Thank you for watching and for your kind comment!
Really enjoyed this, thanks 🙏🇬🇧
Michael: Thank you!
Love the film, felt I was alongside you on the bridge 🙂
MC: Thank you for your nice note, great to have you along.
