I'm Worried About the Young Women in Sexyy Red's Generation
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 чер 2024
- I caught a very interesting conversation, or it was more like an exchange on The Breakfast Club between comedian and media personality Jess Hilarious and rapper Sexyy Red.
I give Jess Hilarious a lot of credit because she exhibited a lot of maturity and I give Sexyy Red credit for at least giving Jess a chance to rectify whatever mistake she felt like she made.
But I’m fucking bothered because this particular conversation reminded me of the conversations, us Black women of a certain age need to be having with younger Black women.

I swear i have this going on in my family right now. This young generation don't wanna talk about anything and think we're supposed to read their mind.
Sexxy Red didn't answer anything. She couldn't list anything Jess said wrong.
Chhhhilllle
And they don't want constructive criticism it's throwing shade to them ..
I totally Respect Jess and How she Dealt with her...Cause it's a CHORE.
Jess was speaking to a person that can’t articulate herself. It was hard to watch but she tried.
“Cause it’s a CHORE”. _THAT part_ ✌🏽
Y’all need to stop. Red is the star. It’s NOT a chore to earn your paycheck. Where do you two work? I’d like to pick apart your communication abilities
@@ak24553Tbh many of teens/young adults have trouble communicating and limited vocabulary. Social media has them all sounding like clones 🤷♂️
@@ahbieyashasourcide897 who are you talking to?
This is why A&R development is important to artists, it helps them prepare to answer questions and deal with the media
Hey, Arthur THIS is what record companies did up to 20 years ago with signed talent. You were not a recording artist until the label put a team around you that gave you styling, media training, a PR rep, A&Rs that guided you to record the best music with the right writers and producers and marketing team that placed you on the right radio and TV shows and magazines and sent you on short tours. You were regarded as an investment. People like Sexxy Red are a perfect example of someone that cannot manage her own career. In the 90s, attractive and sexual female rappers were Foxy Brown and Lil Kim, who were well marketed and invested in and performed on prime time TV. Now look where we are... 😮
Thank you Jemele for addressing Accountability amongst our young people
Youre the adult. Accountability starts with you.
Accountability 😂😂😂😂 cap
I like how Jess handled her. At the same time, the way Redd conducted herself was really rediculous. I'd say that THE BIGGEST REASON why our generation can't speak to this gen is because this gen has issues with articulating themselves. This poor girl couldn't effectively articulate and verbalize her thoughts. It signifies a big failure in our public school system and highlights the dangers social media and current hip hop culture has on the social and emotional well being of young ppl. It was sad to watch that interaction.
Oh you mean how all the rappers in the 80-early 2007 couldn’t articulate them selves 😂!
School failures = Parental failures. And the inability to articulate has long been an issue in the Black community as we have a long history of disdain for education and those who take it seriously.
Totally correct it comes out in her lyrics
@@javionriley8739must have been the ones you listened to
It’s not the school system. It’s the parents. Articulating starts in the home.
I can’t believe we let irresponsible black adults off the hook, Sexxy Red is 25; you know what I was doing as a 25 year old black man, being a father and a husband and my father at 25 was doing the same, we’re treating these young adults like babies.
My God she's twenty-five?!😮 I would expect a twenty-five year old to be able to communicate better than what she did.
Exactly she is NOT a child and she is horrible
Jess handled this so well. She speaks on Sexy Red because it’s a part of her career.
Communication skills are something that are lacking. I won't just say it's the younger generation, but I've enjoyed encountered this with many young people. My thing if someone does something that u dislike u should be able to tell them what they did that u disliked
The sad part is she’s a mother herself 😂 theeeesseee are the new parents bringing up the next generation. crazy!
I saw this a few days ago. This was one of the most frustrating exchanges I've ever heard. She NEVER says what she actually did to offend her.
She said Jess made negative comments about her on other people's posts on Instagram. She also admitted Jess said negative comments on the TBC show. Honestly, Jess said she made comments bc she doesn't agree with some of the things Red does and says.
@@danabenson4125 I came away with nothing other than generalities. What did Jess say specifically? And when did Jess admit to disparaging comments about her? It certainly wasn't in this exchange.
@@ryanw6669 She never provided an actual example, word for what she said. Most of us want you to go into deep details of what was said. I know I am the type of person that can own up to what I said, so it's okay if you can tell me what I likely said lol
@@danabenson4125 Agree 100%. If I said it to someone about you, I'll say it TO you. The lack of specificity makes it seem like nothing was actually said, her feelings are just hurt for whatever reason.
As a black man I’m embarrassed of the way our youth has become. I guess we give anybody the mic and call them sexy
😂
Exactly it's utterly ridiculous
😢 I agree
She's 25. Just because she failed to launch into adulthood doesn't make her a child.
@@berelationsShe acts like she didn’t get any guidance at home.
At least Lil Kim's lyrics actually flowed.
This!!
well, i mean yeah. they were written by christopher wallace.
The biggest difference with the music is social media. Kim was popular among black people who listen to rap music. Sexy Red is popular among pop culture. Her music is everywhere. Ratchet music isn't only played inside of cars, clubs and dorm rooms like in the 90s. It's everywhere and it is socially acceptable. That's the difference. Those lyrics had a place and time in the 90s. Now, any social media or streaming platform can play these lyrics anywhere, anytime. The demand for accountability increases because of this.
It's hard to communicate & understand when the other person refuses to articulate their point. They expect you to just know what they mean & how they feel. Jess kept asking for examples & this girl couldn't explain anything.
I was getting so annoyed!!! These young girl are entitled yet sensitive! Jess was being so mature. Stating that there’s things you do and say that I don’t like but I support you. All Red was hearing is “I don’t like”. And that’s why they have fake friends around them bc as soon as someone keeps it 💯 they a hater. When really they care!
This is a MUST NEEDED conversation!! Thank you for highlighting this moment between these two women because I definitely was not a fan of how dismissive SR was towards JH based off of an assumption of something she read on the internet that she couldn't even remember...but I'm glad JH has shown so much growth as a professional, while maintaining that while she doesn't agree with everything SR says or does - anything she posts is for pure comedy and not intended to offend any artist/celeb.
Mad about "Something she read off the internet that she couldnt even remember ...."😂. Isn't that something?
@@tvs9978The point is if she didn't even remember what that something was, how was it even a big deal?
That’s the problem, dismissing or invalidating SR’s perception. Jess probably did say something. They do that in media, be 2-faced. Be smiling in your face right after taking behind your back.
@edasthesoulstar I was agreeing with the initial point. Reread my comment. "Isn't that something?" is an expression that essentially means "isn't that funny'?
@@tvs9978 Considering you just explained what you meant, me rereading your original comment serves what purpose, exactly? Lol. Thanks for explaining it bc clearly, there was confusion. But no worries. Have a great day.
Jess does it a lot of credit for this one because Sexy Red was frustrating ME! Lord my NERVES!
When you can express to me exactly what I actually did wrong, then you might get an apology...If I don't agree with the things you do or say, I'm not apologizing, that is my personal opinion
Exactly, apologize for what. She couldn’t put a sentence together to explain what she was upset about. Jess don’t do that again.
She was trying to defuse the situation. We have to try
Exactly!!! So many people don’t understand this concept. I’m not apologizing simply because you’re mad & offended. Tell me what I did. If you can’t do that AND I don’t feel like it’s warranted, I’m not apologizing. 🤷🏾♀️
She doesn’t have any grammar to put a sentence together. Seems to struggle to clearly and concisely express herself.
So true. I'm not apologizing for anything if a person can't tell me what I did or said that needs an apology. And we all went through the pandemic so that's not an excuse. She needs to learn to communicate and deal with people that are not going to agree with everything you say or do
My issue with her is that she speaks about having STIs as if it is a badge of honor. STIs are highest among Black woman, including HIV. Pelvic inflammatory disease a complication from contracting STIs places us at further risk at becoming sterile and having ectopic pregnancies. This should not be taken lightly and I do not believe she and others who support her understand the impact of what she says and how she presents herself have on our community. According the CDC HIV is rising in her age group and what is so sad is that you don’t even understand until you start taking care of the young ones dying from this disease. I feel like the world has forgotten about HIV. It is rampant in our community and she is a distraction from the truth.
Thank you. Exactly. It really bothers me that people keep trying to say we are too hard on Sexy Redd and we did the same stuff. Nah...this stuff is far beyond anything Lil Kim ever did and Lil Kim wasn't in character when she did interviews.
Totally agree
I work at a mainstream pharmacy & babeee when i tell u the community is on dem hiv meds like candy...its super sad. Not just our community but all colors and ages because they all spreading it like wildfire. I have given it to 16yrs and 85yr olds & everything in between. smh sad sad sad.
And blk women put these ppl on pedestals😂😂😂
@@truthbtold8697 Who? Not me, I Prefer kpop since it’s more conservative
I also think this younger generation feels extremely scrutinized and ridiculed because of the internet. They have this persecution complex good or bad because they allow anonymous people who can be very malicious to have access to their lives. For all the great the internet is there is also a price to pay for it and I’m sad to say it’s at the expense of the mental health of the youth.
Well said
They bring it on themselves at the same time, and she is a prime example
The internet is not the information super highway we thought it would be. It's simply a digital marketplace where anything can be bought and sold, or traded.
Young developing minds are impressionable and quite vulnerable to the infinite number of ideologies and perspectives it has to offer. I'd argue the vast majority of teens are not mature enough to handle the access they have to surf the web, let alone being able to process the data they come across.
It's how those young minds perceive the data that worries me the most. It doesn't matter if it's radical left, extreme right, Red Pill, Blue Pill, etc. This doesn't even scratch the surface of dealing with the criticisms, pressures, and expectations of this social media world.
Then again I could be wrong, and this is just the new normal for a world that's passing by the rest of us.
Thick skin
These kids have all the accumulated knowledge of the world in the plam of their hands. If you choose to be on Instagram and Facebook instead of reading or watching content that you can learn from...that's a poor choice. I'm gonna tell these kids exactly that.
I don’t understand how people put their EVERYTHING out there to be seen & heard but get OFFENDED! Like everything you do and say is not going to land well with everyone! But if you talk !ish be able to take !ish!
These days, their "everything" is forever on the internet and can easily be brought back up.
The real problem is modern social media all together in general and this modern smartphone screen addict culture but nobody wants to have that conversation in a deep manner because it would ruin business for a lot of these tech and app companies that have people hooked like junkies on the newest gadgets and app upgrades. The media and government will talk about every addiction under the sun but when it comes to social media and smart phones it's not addressed or talked about with the same importance and aggression as many other issues that cause society to go in a unflattering downhill direction.
Girl!!! As a parent figure of two in that generation. Any confrontation to hold them accountable or seeking clarification is met with this energy. I often have to throw my hands up in the air with them 🤷🏽♀️
Yea but you can say that about every generation and I’m a millennial
I consider myself a wildflower because I'm born in 1966. My parents exposed us to Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Redd Foxx and Millie Jackson and the list goes on. Give me Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Khia to Nicki Minaj. I'll pass on sexy red.
Later 70's/Gen X here and I hear you.
1966 makes you a baby-boomer.
Baby boomer years are 1946 - 1964.
I
@patriciamitchell9365
1965 to 1980 are x gen and baby bloomer 1948 to 64.
You have realize that younger generation are way less educated and entitle than the previous generation. They are social media junkies.
Younger ppl in their 20s must learn how to express their feelings outside of social media. Once approached in person, it’s always nothing to say. We not making excuses for young ppl in their 20s. I’m 30 & I’ve had to grow up & learn how to speak real quick in the real world. Step 1, learning to listen & taking accountability.
Not just social media, just anything outside of 200+ characters, texting and forwarding memes/gifs, and social media is not ideal communication. Then when it's verbal, crickets.
You are so right. 👏
She closer to 30 than 20 so yea should be doing better
Calling her Sexy is an insult to Real Sexy women 😂😂😂💯
Exactly 😅
facts 😂😂😂😂
As a millennial myself, I’ve often said the last generation that was raised with some type of sense was us. Some of the Gen Z kids and young adults have completely lost their minds.
How do you think I feel: I was born the end of the '50s! However, I didn't go through everything that I went through for myself. I went through it for my people. So it breaks my heart that my people are still going through.
Exactly… they’ve lost their ever lovin minds.
As a Black man, I have given up on reaching out to the Gen Z demo that ACTIVELY and AGGRESSIVELY don't wanna "hear it" or even TRY to "make it right".
So, I end up working with the young musical ones that understand the power of their position and platforms.
I hope they don't have to learn the hard way (See: young rappers killed over DRILL Music)
That’s extremely condescending but good.
Same. It’s exhausting.
🎯
Probably is your approach
@@BNA_Est.1988sometimes condescending is necessary. It's better than supporting the bs
I wouldn’t apologize if I didn’t do anything wrong. Not sorry.
It's amazing to me, you say degrading thinks about yourself, then get mad when somebody don't agree. 🤨🤔. I'm a 80s baby & I be shaking my head.
Sexxy Red doesn’t know that she is being used to promote the agenda(or maybe she does and money talks 🤷🏾♀️) yeah we had Lil Kim and Foxy etc but we also had Queen Latifah, McLyte, Lauryn Hill, etc These days if a female rapper isn’t talking about her body parts she can’t be mainstream. 🙃
I definitely believe in helping young black women instead of judging. I would be happy to mentor them whenever I can.
Jemele speak it louder 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Jemele I'm a 69 year old baby Boomer and I truly regret that I'm just now discovering your podcast! You are so good and I'm glad that we can leave the struggle in the hands of informed, educated and socially conscious black women and men like yourself!
This behavior is being supported at the highest levels tnx for the video
It’s great to have the opportunity to speak to the next generation but many don’t want to listen until they learn the hard way. We won’t give up though, and I commend you for bringing this discussion to the forefront. This needs to be heard❤️
We have to extend love and grace to our youngins. I work with middle school and JUCO students. Approaching them with curiosity helps. I connect with my humanity- Im honest about how i had flawed thinking at their age, share the consequences i faced, and then we discuss choices not that they know more. The usually make me proud with their decisions. SERVING (not dominating) young folks is incredible rewarding.
In ten years she’ll be middle age. She’s no youngin.
@@pria753825 is young. Ten years ago she was 15.
I’m still trying to figure out where the “sexy” in her name comes from….I don’t see it.😂
Nobody does. She is being forced on the Black community, particularly Black girls and folks are eating it up. Smh
Exactly
I totally disagree with Jamele. And I am not a prude at all! These kids dont want anybody to say shit to them. Jess handled it well, but lets be clear, Sexxy Redd did not receive one word she said. Sexxy Redd just wanted Jess to apologize...thats it, thats all.
She hasn’t received it YET!
Right, Jess should've said I will apologize when you stop talking about your ...well, you know.
That's the thing. Redd has the right not to rock with her.
As a generation X black man, I am very embarrassed at the state of our culture. I mean, there's too much division within the black race, and this division is exactly why we can't get anywhere as a people. The sooner that we can come together in all aspects of the black community, the better off we will be as a whole. We've got a lot of work to do!
Your take on this was dead on.
She didn't even know what she was mad about, lost cause, focus on the next generation
Wow. Every single time I listen to you I am overwhelmed with joy. It's the way we speak the same language and how you are the coolest and realist and politically sound and authentic to excellence in our culture. It's like you represent so many wonderful things in love about us and it feels really good to see!!!!
Jemele, damn I wish you were on prime time television. You are the best informer, journalist and most down to earth speaker I have ever seen. I love your podcast. Keep doing what you’re doing your homeboy from Grand Rapids will always support you…..
It's amazing how she and others leave nothing to the imagination and a mindset like an empty classroom! Get mad when you are called out on your actions. If we become numb to this, then let's bury our heads in the sand about Diddy.
Thank you Jemele! Admitting, haven't listened to you since departing the "alphabet" sports channel. This topic was great to address behavior(s) of our young black women. Again, thank you well spoken.
They don't know how to take criticism. That is the issue. Why does everything need to be a diss ? Because they are not on the bandwagon. Everyone can have an opinion but they don't want you too.

Truly a great topic, I am a boomer, difficult and sensitive conversations are so needed from generation to generation. We don’t need everyone on the defensive.😊
Thank you for covering this story and raising the issue of the multi-generational relationships amongst Black women. We have to do the work, and it starts at home!❤
I WENT TO A SPELLMAN UNIVERSITY LAWYERS GRADUATION IM NOT WORRIED.
Lil Kim was not like Sexxy Redd. Lil Kim was normal Kim Jones when she did interviews. Sexy Redd is always raccooning on social media. She's a full time, professional raccoon. There is nothing wrong with older folks telling her that she needs to cut that stuff out. But hey...the Breakfast Club is part of the problem so I'm not surprised Jess backtracked. Breakfast Club can't afford to offend the record labels.
What is a raccoon, what does that mean, sorry I'm older, never heard that term
Sexy red canceled a gifts for kids event in St. Louis, Mo because there where more parents than kids. She straight accused the parents of wanting to grift.
What if these parents dont want their kids to know where they had to get their gifts this year.

And that's why this Lil girl should be cancelled

She did a great job of de-escalating the situation, but also opening up a conversation (providing a great example of maturity) as opposed to creating a beef. I agree with you, I was pleasantly surprised because I thought it was going to end all bad.
You and me both! We can change this, but Swift action is needed
Listen!! Generation Z is being raised by people who lack parenting skills. I have a 15 yo and everyday people tell me how lucky I am to have a daughter like mine. I don’t tolerate ignorance, I don't tolerate lack of communication, she is a leader, not a follower, she’s an only child so she is used to being out on her own with things. I have exposed her to good Hip Hop so she laughs at the nonsense coming out of record labels these days. But also remember my days as a teenager. YOUNG black women these days are lost and their parents or lack thereof are to blame. Some of these kids are being raised by people from the crack era.
Great show sister 👏
Hip Hop began as a vehicle to uplift the black community and to allow our voices to be heard. Before the whole gangsta rap/coochie era emcees made songs about being responsible fathers, staying away from drugs, and even when men and women talked about heartbreak in relationships the artists weren't degrading and dehumanizing one another to get their point across. All of that would change once corporate heads got involved and discovered that big money could be made off of hip hop. With that discovery they helped usher in gangsta/street rap and with it came the glorification of everything hip hop once denounced so are we really surprised by what we are seeing today it was headed in this direction all along we just had no idea how bad it would get. Even rnb has suffered because of the influence of toxic hip hop culture. From the looks of it it doesn't look like it will get better and as long as consumers don't require more out of hip hop artists of today they will just keep putting out trash knowing their fans will buy it anyway. I'm not degrading the artists but most of this music of today shouldn't be categorized as music. It poses no challenge make the type of music that artists make today. Anything can be put out today and it will be called art and awarded making artists feel a false sense of impact.
I just be likeeee…huh?? Can’t even complete a sentence. 🤦🏽♂️

That's BS. Jess had noting to apologize for. Util you tell me EXACLTY WHY I need to apologize to you. NOT just because you asked to give you one, it's not happening. This generations so HARD but yet so damn soft & sensetive cause they were told everything they do is gold. NEXT.
Baby boomers, Gen X, and older millennials created and promoted this culture. We told our kids that they can be sexually fluid and free as they want. We told them it’s ok to have many sexual partners. We told them it’s ok to dress overly sexual and provocative. We told them it’s ok to have kids before or without marriage. We told them they don’t need husbands or men as helping relationship partners. We taught them that they don’t have to respect themselves or others. Sexxy Red isn’t the problem, we are as a culture and community. Like it or not, Sexxy Red is just the reflection of our cultural values.

I'm in Jemele's generation and my mom wouldn't let us listen to artists like Lil Kim. I think its about what you're exposed to and what is considered "normal" behavior for a young person or not.
