Man.... I did this not too long ago, I'm going to have to fix it, but I told the owner he would have to bring it back, it was super cold and I knew it was going to have to dry completely before I could get the ugly mistake fixed. This is a great trick that I could have used. 👍🏾
I've seen guys do that! You know what scares me about a heat gun is runs One time I used a heat gun on some clear and it ran everywhere. When you heat the clear up its viscosity goes away just like motor oil it becomes thinner. But I suppose if only using it on that blend area I should be ok
I just use air from the gun, lightly spray ur reducer and back up a little keeping air flowing and if u need more lightly spray again. I've put too much down and created fisheye effects and runs
For all you DIY'er Marco has alot of experience doing blow ins and spot repairs for the rest of us.J ust sand the whole panel with 800 or grey scotch brite dust in your base then clear the whole panel.
@@markperez6195you’re technically supposed to, yes. But you could probably get by with just putting more base then clear but you’ll likely see where you burned through since it will be base on bare metal and you’re supposed to have corrosion protection like epoxy or etch primer. I’d spray a little bit of a 1k rattle can etch primer then a 2k primer and sand to whatever you want then base and clear.
I experienced my first burn through on the body line of the passengers side door of an Alpine White BMW. Man how frustrating. I see in this video the burn through has no primer or would I need to primer it before attempting a smart repair to the very small area with the burn through. I want to ask before proceeding.
Thanks for this vid. I went 1 step further with a tiny burn on edge of panel to metal. What now lol. I mean tiny area can i just use etch primer on a q-tip or fine line brush let it cure then base the whole fender and clear it? My Ws400 learning curve on the gun settings created a waterfall of clear. lol
Hey man the tiburon I bought off u is still a work in progress any pointers on what to do someone mechanic said it had an electrical issue and I replaced the alternator and battery
HAHA this exact thing happened to me on a model car, that's why I'm here. I held the Dremel on a spot too long while compounding and burned right through. Problem is, I was using a color changing paint. Not sure if the process is still the same?
Harbor freight has a long throw DA buffer. pretty much dummy proof. Any novice looking to learn buffing because you will need it should get one 100 bucks.
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 I’d love to see a vid on a DA with cutting and polishing, I’m in the same boat, the friggin rotaries can really ruin your day (and have ruined my day lol)
Not sure if you’re still curious about this question but I do paint outside at a dealership not body shop, I’ve repainted an hour after it baked in the sun plenty of times. I’ve yet to hear any complaints about things messing up down the line but same time I’ve only been doing this for 2 years so 🤷♂️
That's for the chemist at speedokote to know and us to probably never find out. A manufacturer will never release a full breakdown of what's in there product. Just like any other company

Great job! Sometimes having a heat gun handy to disapate the blending solution helps when you first apply it.

True 🤣🤣🤣
For a very light burn through down to metal on the body line of a door panel, must I prime that small burn through area first?

What is in your clear coat blend just reduced clear? Nice tip super time saver.
@@3rekoatskustoms929 I use the speedokote blender solution 100% straight and simply burn in that dry edge that's it
This spot will be really thin and 'delicate ' though, so very vulnerable to burn through with future polishing etc?
It's possible
Can you do this with rattle cans are does it have be an air gun ?
Have to do the same today , burned a two inch line on a door corner right throw the paint
Hope this video helps, will not work if it's 3 stage or anything heavy mettalic
Dual action buffer is better no created that much heat I use a griots garage g9 to buffer paint
I actually just bought one after this crap. Pretty much done with old school buffers

wont that repair just peel off over time? like a sunburn.... especially if you sand it later on to further blend it

How soon can you repaint over a fresh paint job without issues? I sand through alot of spots would you base and clear again like normal?

Did you reduce your base coat? I have had issues where the base starts to etch around the clear line
Basecoat always gets reduced
I'm extremely new what does your blending solution consist of?
Not 100% sure on exact ingredients. Only the manufacturer knows that which is speedokote
