    After doing a lot of searching to find good ADJUSTABLE stands for my Anthony Gallo Classico CL-2s I found Cotytech SP-OS10. Getting the tweeters at the right height (ear height) is important. These stands allow you to do that AND they're built solid. I don't work for Cotytech, just a really happy customer. Their customer service was great too. Amazon sells them or you can get them on the Cotytech website. I secured my speakers to the stands using blue reusable putty that you can get at any office supply store or Amazon. Happy listening. :-)

    I had great results for the two and a half years that I ran LS50.... They were on Atacama HMS 1. 1 700 with the additional mass loading plates in the bases and partially filled with Atabites....

    That had some great information I can use to improve my current setup. I have a pair of Ruark Swordsman Plus II sitting on a shelf. The base per spec should not be that dominating with these but I recognice some frequencies that are very unnaturally amplified around 90 Hz. I suppose this has to do with them being positioned to the wall to closely. And also the room being not large enough.

    Just spend a bit more and get dedicated nice looking stable stands. I've owned 2 pairs of LS50s over the last 5 years (great speakers btw) and sitting at a distance listening it was always pleasant to look over and enjoy listening to them when they were on nice stands. If you get something cheap to just plop them on you'll eventually get annoyed with how it looks - just my 2c.

    Paul after I sat down in my chair to watch TV for the night I realized I had to come back to this video to ask a question that is very important to me. I have book shelve speakers sitting on top of floor standing speakers that are on a piece of 3/4 " wood that are on top of carpet with good old thick padding. Am I doing this wrong and what should I do for better sound. Thanks Rick.

    I used a 16"and a 8" cinder block stacked under my Dyna monitors for years, I used construction adhesive to tie the blocks together and painted them green to match the carpet. As Paul said I had them with the holes facing forward and they made great stands. I gave those speakers and the blocks to a friend and he has used them since.
    In the early 90's the company I worked for was finally getting computers in some areas and I ended up being the MIS. These were the old AT sized boxes that would pretty much occupy the entire desk.
    Now the man who owned the business was known to be a bit parsimonious, some swore they could here the squeak as he walked by. One of these new machines was on the desk of the secretary in the main office and that woman was busier than a one handed paperhanger, she handled all the correspondence, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and God knows what else..
    One day while talking to her I noticed how much that hulking machine was in her way and I told her we should get that machine off the desk and out of her way. i went out the the garage and got a cinder block, washed it off and put it between the wall and desk on it's side and put the computer on it with the drives at the top. The secretary was just as happy as a clam to have her desk back, the momitor was still on the desk but that was only a 12" amber unit so it was pretty compact.. all was well until the boss walked in at his usual 11AM starting time (he usually stayed till 10PM or later so he could deal with customers on the west coast. He looked at the top of the desk and then the computer wedged between the wall and desk and started to rant about this being an office and how it was no place for a cinder block. Everybody looked at him like he had two heads for he was the last person you would expect such concern over something like that. - but as they say , the.boss is the boss
    I told him I would paint that block to match the grey steel desk but said he wanted the block gone so I said I'd order a computer stand on wheels and that satisfied him. A week later he was in my office and noticed I had a block under my machine that was sandwiched between the wall and desk, he mentioned the block but said it was my office so I could do as I pleased - just as well because he knew I was infinitely more stubborn than he was.

      Captainmakis 952 there are lots of choices. Wooden or metal stands. With metal, the stands may be hollow and people will advise you that the tubes should be filled with sand or a dense material like atabites. And how much you should fill them. I have Atacama sl600i stands 3/4 filled with atabites. Filling stands makes a difference. Tighter bass and opened the top end on my Kef R300. In my 2nd system I’m resting Kef Q300 on a desk with yoga blocks decoupling the speakers from the desk. A nice cheap compromise till I decide how to mount them. Any questions, then ask away

      If on a console, you should try the isoacoustics small stands. Im not sure I buy all the physical principle but they did an amazing difference at home with my totem acoustic speakers! In fact ny step brother got a pair before me and I was sceptical but we did many test and the difference was night and day.

      Sebastien D'Amours I did look at the Isoacoustics stands, in the UK they are about £80, since I’m not sure how I will be setting up my desk at the moment, I thought at £8 for 4 yoga blocks in a discount store would be a good investment till I decide what to do. The Kef Q300 are front ported, I wonder if I can hang them on a wall shelf and have them decoupled with the yoga blocks or ISOacoustics pods/stands or whether they still need to be placed away from the walls

    Here's a weird request regarding speaker stands: I have a pair of stands that were a few inches too short for the speakers. The speaker plate is 8"x8", so I used two 4"x8"x2.4" patio pavers at each stand to raise the speakers to the correct height. This adds at about 10 pounds per speaker stand. It sounds fine to me, but please let me know how I am destroying/enhancing the performance of my speakers by doing this. Thanks.
    Edit: There's also an 8"x8' piece of 1/8" packing sheets above and below each pair of pavers, mostly to prevent scratches to the stand and speaker.

    Or - a basket /milk crate, suspended from ceiling joists using bungees ?
    Or - large square plant container, almost fill with water (experiment here) enough to float a substantial square (washing-up) bowl, in whcih the speaker is placed. That is, the speaker is floating in its own "boat" ! Simples !!

    Cinder blocks are great for the larger monkey coffin size speakers as they need a low stand, however they mght be a little low for the ls50s. Maybe two stacked on top of each other.

      Poo Ninja A fair amount, in PAs ease of setup and takedown needs to be fast, note, these PA speakers weight is massive compared to most home speakers and that helps somewhat, good question.

    • @delstanley1349
      @delstanley1349 5 років тому +1

      Poo Ninja> I thought about that too based on his explanation, but then it seems since bass moves a lot of air that the wires may start to sway somewhat and the speakers would create enough noticeable distortion from that reactionary movement. Just guessing though.

    In My Den I have a pair of Polk Audio lsim703 speakers on top of the dresser. It is perfect for ear height. In front of the speaker is only about 5 inches of the top of the dresser. Driving them with a Peachtree nova300 using a Rel t7i subwoofer. Sounds amazing. No distortion. It all depends on how much surface area is there and if there's too much you can easily put some matting down. Stands are absolutely good but they're not the only means to utilize a bookshelf speaker. I disagree with you Paul

      the dresser will have a particular resonance frequency that will most definitely amplify that section of frequency in the spectrum.A large vibrating wooden box is probably the last place I’d put speakers.
      I’d advise you to experiment with speaker placement as the difference to imaging is incredible and your amazing sounding speakers will definitely become even more incredible..but ultimately if you are enjoying your music that is all that really matters ✌️

    • @ryanschipp8513
      @ryanschipp8513 5 років тому

      @@simonsteamyhead5738 Appreciate your opinion. The dresser is very heavy. Obviously filled with clothes. Probably weighs 200 pounds. It has a full glass top. Not much at all is going to resonant since the speakers take up essentially the entire surface and the dresser is weighted down...glass top...not wood. This is my 3rd rig and I have no other options for placement since its a 200 sq ft den. My point was this. Paul went on to imply stands are the holy grail to the best sound and anything else is a mistake. He is mistaken. I have living proof. Just trying to direct new audiophiles in the right direction.

      @@ryanschipp8513 It's just my opinion after having tried both but stands out from the wall and at the correct ear height gave my system better imaging, distortion wasn't a problem for me. No concrete blocks what you're talking about is cinder blocks not really that good you're better with thermalite is a lot better it is made for soundproofing used in buildings above ground an open cell structure and is very lightweight. But you can just use some acoustic foam that's what's used in the studios to put your speakers on. And make sure the front baffle is free in the air to the surface what Paul was saying, and don't just put them tweeter at top flipped them upside down or sideways a speaker has a natural tendency to go a 45 degree angle from the tweeter to the floor so if it's upside down it will do the opposite leaning your speakers back 5 degrees can help as well. Bring the bass up and the low mid-range.
