"Solastalgia is a term coined by Australian philosopher Glenn Albrecht in 2003. It describes a form of emotional or existential distress that is experienced by individuals when they witness the negative environmental changes in their home or familiar surroundings. Unlike traditional forms of nostalgia, which involve a longing for a specific time or place from the past, solastalgia is about the distress caused by the degradation of one's environment in the present.
Solastalgia is often associated with the impact of environmental changes, such as deforestation, climate change, or industrial development, on a person's sense of place and well-being. It can manifest as a feeling of powerlessness, grief, and a sense of loss as the landscape or environment that once provided comfort and familiarity is altered or destroyed. It's closely linked to the broader field of ecopsychology, which explores the relationship between human psychology and the natural environment.
In essence, solastalgia highlights the psychological and emotional toll that environmental degradation and change can have on individuals, especially when these changes are occurring in the places they call home. It serves as a reminder of the intricate connection between the environment and human well-being."
So inclusive, so Charles Schwab-like total human origin destroying ideology. And so well explained. Destroy human society in sake of nature safety. Really great words but just to make cruel oligarchy more rich and powerful than ever before...
This is so interesting to know. I love how this band focuses on these issues
Nice insight man, thank you!
💚
Thank you, homeboy!! @@apathee_dm
This band has really evolved into something so big and beautiful. We couldn't have predicted. They should enjoy this success and can't wait to see what's more in store in the future.
That's exactly what I was thinking too.
Yeah I can't stand pre 2012 cattle decapitation but omg they just keep getting better and better. Meshuggah is the same! Like a fine wine!😂
@@andythemyconautnope, every era is great! Pre 2012 Cattle has some great underground Goregrind, post 2012 consists of some of the best and most brutal the mainstream has to offer
@do_yohomework I mean your not wrong. It's good in its own right. I'm guess not really a grind core guy, more progressive and technical death and deathcore. There newer stuff is more polished and Travis Ryan's vocals are getting better. Easy to understand the lyrics considering how brutal his guttural and screeches are. Song structures are better as well.
They are awesomely brutal. Love it. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Probably the most exciting band in the industry for the last few years, long may it continue.
I’m happy that they are finally getting their well deserved recognition. I’ve been a fan since Humanure
If you told me that Cattle Decap would turn into this after listening to their first album, I would have laughed at you. Yet here I am saying they are on of the best metal bands right now.
You and me both brother, I was listening to them in middle/highschool in like 03, I loved them then, but this is just incredible.
Saw them with Suffocation in 06’ I believe and while they were amazing live, their music wasn’t my thing. They’ve become absolutely exceptional in every way since though. Never could’ve imagined.
@@shayneswenson agreed, the progress in musicianship and vocals is out of this world.
Their first albums are some top notch grindcore and later on deathgrind imho
Feel this way when the woods i grew up in were replaced by a factory and parking lot for semi trucks.
Death Atlas was one of my favorite metal albums ever, but Terrasite has gone even beyond that. It's absolutely beautiful in its composition.
And as a bass player of 32 years, I'm at least somewhat qualified to say that Olivier Pinard is absolutely one of the best in the business. Fucking incredible.
As a bass player myself, agreed!!!
Facts
100%
bass player solidarity
When Death Atlas came out i didnt wanted more Cattle Decap: i was thinking that anything will be worse than that album. It was that good at that time for me.
I was fucking wrong. Terrasite is the new peak. And I want more and more. These guys are insane. Pioneering death metal. Its like an evolution.
The look on Travis' face when he says "the greatest depression" sent me chills like he's frightened and uneasy of what we become
he feels that shit
Masterpiece of an album.
Death Atlas and Terrasite are just masterpiece’s ♥️
Cattle Decapitation has really captured the sound of the hopelessness and despair I’ve felt watching the nature would disappear in my lifetime. It’s such a sad and beautiful track.
The last part is so touching and emotional, it makes me cry everytime I'm listening Travis sings with his "clean voice". He has this particular way to make us feel this emotion within ourselves. I just see how all the band (guitarists, bassist, drummer and Travis) just are joined to make this amazing touching sounds into the gutural way with a beautiful end. It's just incredible! And it's not only this song, there's a lot of songs of them like this one. Great band! It's simple, I just love them!
Cattle Decap is generally considered death metal but I feel these guys have evolved into their own genre. Any other bands and particularly other vocalists that sound like this are simply riding the coattails of these guys. This band created a sound that will certainly be influential for a long time. Cattle Decap are one of the most innovative bands to come out in a very long time.
Def a huge black metal vibe goin on too
Chuck from Death is what Travis built on yes, myself as well.
Technical Black Metal? XD
That last scene is art.
Awesome to see them live. Best concert I've been to in years!
agreed. Saw them in Baltimore, plan to go again.
This comment right here, last time I saw them I heard Travis was sick and I couldn’t tell at all. Everyone in this band puts on a killer live show.
I saw these guys in Melbourne about a month or so ago at the Croxton Bandroom. Travis somehow sounds even better live than on the album. It was a killer show!
@@brandontadday6288 yeah a lot of the live videos of Cattle don’t do the live sound justice, the whole band has killed it everytime I’ve seen them. I’m excited for the Terrasite tour
Cattle Decapitation has such a personal sound, touch, riffing, and style that it has become one of these bands that are immediately recognizable : you hear a few notes and you can say "yep, that's Cattle Decap !"
Great video for a fantastic track from a killer album ! Can't wait to see them live again !
They are so good live! Saw them in Australia and far exceeded my expectations, blew my mind !
Yup from the first few notes thought it was one of the songs off death atlas
spotify recomend me this band like a month ago, im a metalhead so ill give them a try, atm im lovin terrasite so much, the groove, the lyrics, everything, they depict the times we are living so fken precisely.
great fken band
I LOVE when Travis hits you with that PURE singing yell he does. Good god the level of intensity he brings. Fckin brutally beautiful.
Cheers to Mr. Brodsky for the AMAZING cinematography. It's their best looking viseo by far!
They get such a great interaction/performance out of Travis Ryan in this video. Very commanding and eerie!
my favourite track of the album! ❤
Hello, I’m the Solastalgia Critic; I remember it so you don’t have to
Enjoy with lyrics!
Lyrics:
Feast your eyes on our only future
Neglected, faded and falling apart
Watching the world you know disintegrate
Catch fire, situation already dire
Consequences now fulfilled from two centuries past
Worlds behind
In the rearview reflects a clear view of tomorrow
Veiled, draped in sorrow
Jailed, unshaped and hollow
Old world has vanished
Expired
To our minds we are banished
Inside
Forever
This is our world now
Trapped in the self with no way out
What the fuck did we do?
What the fuck did we think we could prove?
Life is torture
Life is torture
Life is torture
The slowest suffering
We had our hopes
We fashioned our ropes
From which we now swing in the breeze
They didn't work
We went berserk
Trying in vain just to be put at ease
The winds of solastalgia
Blowing the embers of past transgressions
Burning our faces
Leaving a charred world
Devoid of hope
The greatest depression
And our dishonorable discharge
Forever recorded
In our DNA we left behind
For we discarded
That which reminds
Nigh
The end of hope
The solastalgia
Evil nostalgia of better times
The end of hope
Lament together
Despair forever, lose our minds
The end of hope
The solastalgia
Evil nostalgia of better times
The end of hope
Lament together
Despair forever, lose our minds
Nice bro!
Thank you
Thank you!
FANX!!!
More like, cry with the lyrics
1:43 best part
Absolutely one of my favorite bands ever. They've come so far since I picked up the release of Bloody Karma. Can't wait to see them for the 4th time in November!
I really would like to thank my cousin for putting me on with this Band. He showed me Death Atlas Album, Death Atlas being one of the first songs. At first I thought it wasn’t gonna stick with me cause I’m so used to like Alternative Rock, Heavy Metal 🤘🏼, R&B, (Breaking Benjamin, Metallica, Drake, John Legend) The build up and then the Hit of the Song Mid way through it was just an instant classic and hit. I checked out another few songs like Time’s Cruel Curtain, The Geocide, those just made me more hooked.
When Terrasite Album released the first song was Scourge of the Offspring I honestly don’t know how many times we listened to it but lol it was around 12pm at night blasting it on the JBL SPEAKER. Man I tell you the bass, the guitar solo, I’d say the last min and thirty of the song was just brutal and so intense.
Then the album released and my absolute top 3 favorite songs were
Solastagia- 💥💥💥
A Photic Doom - 🔥
Scourge of the Offspring- 🔥💥
Solastagia is a song that is just incredible and intense. It has that powerful melody and just from start to finish it brings the meaning of Holy Shit. Loved the bass part like around 1:45 that part is just 😳😳😳 and then 2:36 is 🔥🔥😭😭 just elegant and brutal at the same time and it builds up to 3:55 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥THE END OF HOPE, LAMENT TOGETHER, DESPAIR FOREVER, LOSE OUR MINDS!
Thanks Again brother @sinisterspawn this really helps with my mental state and brings me to just in my own world and makes me feel intense. Sounds pretty corny but this type of music helps people that’s gone through some rough shit and I’d tell you it just connects.
So well said. When I have a shitty day or come home from work just destroyed I throw this album on and it helps me cope. It’s aggressive but so beautiful, and fills me with such joy that I can forget my worries and just sink into the music. It’s important to have these releases available to us and this band is therapeutic in so many ways. They are a true force in metal and I hope they continue to put out music for years to come.
Aggressive and forceful, yet mellifluous and emotional. This is why I love Cattle Decapitation 🤘🏻
I think I could count with one hand the bands that the THE BANDS that make a whole difference in Metal Music and these guys are one of them. Master's in their Class.
beyond words. so great to see a video for this one
This is easily one of 2023s best albums
Best band in metal right now and I don't think it's even close, in my personal opinion.
best Part 03:23 man that guitar Riff with travis's screams ...gives me everytime goosebumps❤
Just listened to this song for the first time. Holy shit! This is awesome!
Amazing!! The entire New album is beyond words!
RIP Travis' beard 🖤
Oh that voice......🤘🖤🤘
These last two albums have been absolutely BLISTERING
This song is too underrated 🤟
Is it though?? Lol
Holy shit Brian Slagel…
Song of the Year! Album of the Year!
This is probably their best song coming from Terrasite. It's such a dark, doom and self accepting darkness in it.
Basically saying and admitting: "We destroyed ourselves, and for why?"
It really hits to the core of the soul, knowing everyone's hopes and souls were destroyed along with ourselves, and for what reason? For what good?
Solastalgia is something I feel every day as a logger. I'm the one responsible for what I chose to do. I also felt this guilt while I watched a wildfire burn everything around my home up to my doorstep. I have my home, but I live in a barren wasteland now.
That bass line @ 1:46 omg
Solastalgia~ As opposed to nostalgia--the melancholia or homesickness experienced by individuals when separated from a loved home--solastalgia is the distress that is produced by environmental change impacting on people while they are directly connected to their home environment
Such a killer song with a deeply impactful message. It speaks to me on an emotional level even as it melts my face off.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!
62 years old and still love this music. This is one band that continues to impress and keep the music type interesting and cutting edge. So good live. Saw them in PDX and would have loved a longer set.... !
video is sick af!!!
Life is torture 😊 one of my favorite off the new album. Can’t wait to see them in December
Alright Cattle Decapitation, you've won me over with this song. I'm officially a fan now 🤘👹😈🤘
Welcome to the Cattle Decap train my brother
They literally CAN'T make bad music. This album and Death Atlas completely changed the face of metal for me
I’ve been a metal head most of my 42 years but avoided the more extreme end (for the most part) for a good chunk of that time. I’ve only been listening to extreme stuff for like 4 years. These guys definitely helped guide me into this world and I love them for it.
Love you guys. I enjoy this album more that the previous; but either way it's always great to have new music and videos to vibe to. GOATs!
This is one of the few songs that captures the feelings of developing chronic dyspnea as a breathing disease, thanks guys!
*To see how far Cattle has come it's truly impressive! You talk about being experimental in all the right departments, incorporating new styles, to your song writing all while sticking to your roots and turning them into something bigger. This is how you do it! Sometimes you gotta take the right risks and give something new a try, Cattle opened a new door by switching things up, and went on to create some beautiful masterpieces of modern metal!*
This is such a powerful song and the music video did it justice
This is the album of the year!!!!!
Nigh
The end of hope
The solastalgia
Evil nostalgia of better times
The end of hope
Lament together
🖤💔Despair forever, lose our minds
This made my day.
Still wish I had Tardis so I could watch it now!
Yay 😍
This is why i love cattle decapitation! This is a band that pushes themselves musically every album for the last 10+ years and never disappoints.
The whole time....i knew it was going to end with him in the middle of Cattle head eating itself. Such a fucking iconic image.
So privileged to see this band live in September 2023 on the Terrasite tour. They really just do their own thing. Unique and unmistakable with lyrics about stuff that matters. They arent ahead of their time. They are our time.
you have put to words what i have felt for years! never knew what to call it before
A melhor banda do mundo 🤘🏼
siimmmm ,perfeita ela
Uma pena que provavelmente nunca veremos eles por aqui, mano.
Cattle é simplesmente foda demais!
I must say, breathtaking album.
I remember seeing you guys in 01 or 02 at the gathering of the beastial legion. Instantly became a fan for life
Recently saw them in Sydney. It was like watching a movie, couldn’t believe how good their live performance was. They sound exactly the same as the studio albums.
Hail Decap!!
bro before the album came out and i saw the name of this track, I just knew something about that song was gonna slap like sex and it did not disappoint. Def my favorite track of the new album.
Top tier ! This is what natural evolution looks like . 🔥
Now I finally know which song will be played when I am buried one (hopefully) distant day.
Man, the guitar riff at 03:25… I feel my soul leaving my body ❤❤❤❤ So uplifting. Evokes such euphoric emotions
I've been listening to Cattle Decapitation on and off for about ten years. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but everytime they drop something new its more impressive than their previous output. Love the Gollum vocals.
These guys keep getting better. I think they sound better live than anything. Definitely no end in sight for them ✊🏼🔥
Saw these guys years ago with Tragedy and you could tell that they were special...
I've been listening to these guys for many years they just keep getting better
Perfect match music and lyrics, masterpiece!!!
Glad I found these guys. Since 1996? Where the hell have I been?
Ok, WTF! Scourge of the Offspring blew me away. Then they drop this? This is some of the best orchestrated metal I have ever heard. These guys are a serious powerhouse.
Travis has the gnarliest vocals I've ever heard in my life.
This band deserves millions ov views
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! AWESOME!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
probably my favorite song off the album
The Arby's, "We have the meat" ad before this vid was both morbidly ironic and hilarious.
The evolution of Cattle is a pleasure to watch (and hear). This is absolutely amazing
This is one of my fav songs on the album. It's beautiful. Cattle is my favorite band. Can't wait to see y'all in San Antonio next month.
I can't fucking wait to see these guys on the chaos and carnage tour in reading pa. There playing with rivers of nihil who is also a fucking amazing band and carnifex who is dope as fuck and another band who im sure is fucking amazing
This bands last 3 albums have been incredible. Seriously good work from cattle decap!
I remember thinking about how gnarly Josh was on Testi. Mansl. and how bonkers Travis' vocals were, and it was cool they were into so much of the same stuff I was into. Now like over a decade later this band is so bananas. Crazy. So proud of this band and honestly of myself for correctly identifying how dope they are
Hell yeah
Wow, it’s inspired, new vibes, brings us someplace nice.
I’m from San Diego, and they’re definitely the best outta there. I got into them in ‘05 and their progression is absolutely insane.
The real master, the grandfather, the author of the T-rex squeals. This is the reason I fell inlove with cattle decap..travis voice deep lows, eargasm highs..this band is underappreciated for what they have done in the genre..
damn that bass sound is so satisfying
This just happened to release on my birthday. Thank you Cattle Decap for the awesome birthday gift! 🤘
My precious
Wooow nice
I always love it when I stumble across a band whose work I'm not familiar with. These guys are great!
Absolutely cant get enough of that riff at 1:30. Soo good one of my favorite slower songs from the album
Not that I have never like Cattle decapitation, but these guys are aging like fine wine.
I really like that a couple traditional metal bands are starting to add in a little melodic death mixed in.
Absolute love this track. It along with Just another body took Terrasite and the band to a whole new level of brilliance.
The drumming on this song is awesome af! \m/
will be a BLAST(beat) to see you in Goteborg Sweden March 29th :-)
