    Kids seem to be growing up faster than ever, and these stories highlight the youngest age group acting like adults "too young, too soon" (TYTS). Kids are exposed to many more influences and bad behaviors through television, film, and access to the internet. Are celebrities bad role models for young impressionable children? Between stories of teenage gunmen who are not old enough to carry their weapons, toddlers in tiaras, crazy dance moms, and kids getting plastic surgery as birthday presents, it’s easy to see that maybe growing up too fast can hurt rather than help kids.

    In a country where firearms are so prevalent, you should absolutely teach children your children how to use them for safety reasons. You want your child to know that a gun isn't a toy, not to point it at anything you don't want to destroy and to get an adult if they're at a friend's house and they pull one out or something. I grew up around guns, and knew not to mess with them without my parents present.

      Gavan Schultz Because when burglars broke into a home the CHILD knew exactly what to do he put holes in them... and he was also the son of a cop. Kids need to be educated on firearms of course all kids aren’t mature enough. Home intrusions are definitely at an all time high.

    • @shamrock141
      @shamrock141 5 років тому +1

      @@KINGDOMKONCEPT home intrusions vary depending on where you live and with Video Games idolising War many children can treat guns as a toy. Training helps but sometimes I child just will be careless.
      Most home invasions happen when there are no occupants in the house, the second most they occur oblivious to the owner as they sneak through and steal quietly next it is likely that they surprise the child amd the child has not sufficient time to find, load and equip a firearm it is extremely unlikely a child will successfully thwart a home invasion one has higher odds of getting struck by lightning
      That said I respect teaching children how to use firearms so long as you don't force or criticise people who choose against it. This is a delicate matter with no right answer so respect those who choose against guns and vice versa

Ignorance doesn't really mean "stupid" it means or refers to "a state of not knowing" or "lacking information" . Ones intelligence does not play into it. With every weapon comes a certain level of learning, but also intelligence required for possibly self teaching. Also, I have a lot of stupid friends, and thankfully more intelligent friends. Three guesses on which of them gets injured more, and which group holds the record for most times shot in the foot with a .22 pistol.

      C M let me be clear about this. I have 2 adult children. We are the furthest thing from being city people. My kids grew up at 8500 ft in the Colorado Rockies. My children grew up on elk meat. There is no way that I would have ever put a gun in the hands of a 7 year old child especially to kill an animal. I started taking my son on hunts at around 12 years old. My daughter had no interest but I made both of them take a gun safety course. Her husband is a hunter and she now occasionally goes on hunts. The point is, that making a gun look pretty and putting a gun in the hands of a child that can barely tie her own shoes is just stupid. A child that wants to kill at 7 is disturbing. Ultimately you are responsible. Neither I or my son now have any desire to hunt. The woods used to be a great place. Now they are dangerous because we have 7 year olds walking around with guns. You should be ashamed.

      *****
      That's not at all how we view firearms. Guns are objects -they are controlled in human hands. They require a level of safety and respect -something many millions of American gun owners embrace and practice on a daily basis. Accidents happen when people misuse and neglect firearms safety.
      It's amazing to me that cars and road accidents account for so much death and destruction every year, yet nobody wants to ban car ownership. People get drunk or drive dangerously and the result is death and injury. The car is just an object, used safely and successfully by hundreds of millions of people without incident, demonstrating the same principle that accidents, injuries, and death happen because human hands are misusing a tool. Countries have decided that the unintentional and intentional killings caused by cars are not reason enough to ban them completely when so many millions of people use them for good purposes on a daily basis.
      Guns, if used improperly or in the wrong hands, can absolutely kill you -and they can also help save your life as well. We practice gun safety and train often so we know how to properly and safely use our guns, and when we do this the gun is no longer this scary object that's "waiting to kill you" at any minute, it becomes an asset for your own safety. You're in full control of it, you know exactly how to use it, and you always handle, carry, and store it safely -it's no longer this scary thing "out to kill you," it now becomes an asset to your safety.
      In America we believe individuals have the right to life, and when your life is in danger you have the right to preserve your own life. Many good people are alive today because they had a gun in that moment of need, and calling the police wouldn't have been fast enough to save anyone's life. We take responsibility for our own safety -we have police forces around the nation but their sole job is to enforce the law. They are not our private body guards -they will step in to help citizens who are being attacked or killed, but it's not their job to personally protect individuals. They cannot follow every person around every minute of the day for their personal protection, and our own safety and well-being is our own responsibility. We either arm ourselves, learn, and train how to be safe and effective with guns or we walk around unarmed just hoping nothing ever happens. Each person can make their own choice about how valuable their life actually is, and in my case I think my life is valuable enough to warrant protection, but that's just me.
      Some governments or politicians would have you believe that you're too stupid to own a gun, you'll never know how to use one properly, and it's just too risky to have one in the home. We've proven this is not at all the case, and as a firearms instructor I can tell you that many people of both genders and all ages can learn how to be safe, cautious, and effective. The opposite has also unfortunately been proven -I don't see how disarming French citizens in Paris helped make them safer. In fact, they were totally defenseless against bad guys with guns, and had they had guns and basic training, they would've at least had a chance to save their own lives. There seems to be a myth that the only people who can effectively use guns for defense are police officers or soldiers, and as a soldier I can tell you that's completely false. If bad guys can use guns to kill people, good guys can use them as well to fight back -and there are many cases of regular citizens with guns doing so.
      If I could compare your situation to anthing, right now you're the 16 year old kid that's scared of driving a car because of what could (and does) happen on the roads. Your parents have told you that you should never learn how to drive because you'll just harm yourself, you are just not to be trusted driving a car ever. If you were to learn how to drive safely with the right training, and got some time behind the wheel, you would soon find out that you can in fact do this successfully and it's not as scary as you thought. You don't have to be a professional race car driver to do it every day safely without injury. You'd actually get better and safer with time, and you'd be frustrated hearing politicians say you're still too stupid to own these "death machines" even though you and millions of other people have proven otherwise.
      With hundreds of millions of guns all over the country (and around the world), they are not going anywhere. Might as well get educated and learn how to be safe with guns, rather than hide from the issue. We believe education, training, and knowledge will help limit firearms-related accidents, not hiding the issue under the rug.

      Our country was founded on different principles, which anybody can look up on google, but you'd have to live in America to have a full grasp of what the culture is actually like, and not what the media and Hollywood blasts out to the world.
      You talk about how you found things on the internet so you know all there is to know about us, yet you go on to say the NRA is responsible for having such as grasp on the public with their "bullshit and conspiracy theories." The vast majority of gun owners are not NRA members, don't look up their stances, and don't care to be part of it. I laugh when I hear people talk about the big bad NRA and how they're "scaring" people into buying guns -as a gun shop salesman for years at multiple stores in multiple states, I've seen firsthand how that's not at all the case.
      I'm still left wondering why you care so much about a country you seem to despise. You're considered too untrustworthy or stupid by your governments to own firearms, it's not in your heritage, and to your satisfaction you are disarmed. Why obsess over shit that doesn't matter to you? God forbid these crazy ideas of a free, armed citizenry ever spread.

    • @Mr2ndAmendment
      @Mr2ndAmendment 8 років тому +19

      *****
      Guns don't save lives? I guess we should disarm all police officers and the military too. I'm sure your preferred response to the terrorists shooting up Paris would have been to send in the police without guns, because guns absolutely cannot help save lives.
      You don't have to be a cop or a soldier to be able to use one to save lives, civilians can (and do) save lives with their own guns as well.
      You still don't understand; guns are objects, used by criminals and evil people to commit harm, while also being used by good people to react and response to said harm. There is no possible way to get rid of all the guns floating around in the world, so we got two options: disarm ourselves while the bad guys still have guns, or arm ourselves while the bad guys still have guns. When it comes down to it, as it did for those poor people in Paris, in that exact moment you're either armed or a defenseless victim. I can't change your mind if you want to be the victim, but that is not who I choose to be should anything like that happen to me. When confronted with life-threatening violence, I want people to be capable to save their own lives, not be disarmed "for their own safety."
      A "conservative love of the old?" You mind explaining why many Democrats also own guns? Can you account for why people buy AR15s, new-age "assault rifles," and tactical pistols that can hold over 19 rounds of ammunition? It's certainly not because they want to own the same gun that won the West.
      What's at work here is something a lot of people outside the United States cannot understand -because it's an idea that is so foreign to them. We have guns not for sport or recreation but for defense. Defense against the criminal element in our society, defense against threats, and even defense against our own government. The men who created this nation FOUGHT their government with their own weapons. They founded the nation on the idea that armed citizens have the ability to harness ultimate power to protect their rights and freedoms, against anyone, including their own government if need be. They understood that the armed citizen always has a vote, even when the right to vote has been taken away -they understood that because they lived it.
      It is not a privilege granted by government to own firearms, it is a right endowed to every person at birth -protected just as much as the right to speak your mind and pray to any god you want. Our founders wanted armed and educated citizens living in freedom because they have the capability to protect it. The legal system and a million other peaceful, rational ways of solving problems exist and should always be used whenever possible, but should all those defenses break down and there only remains one option left, our founding fathers ensured that future Americans could do as they did and earn their freedom.
      For the first time in history, a group of people got together and authored a founding document that gave full power to the people -where the government works for us, and we send representatives forward to represent our interests. Rule is by consent of the people, and should the government no longer act in our interests and gets out of control to a point beyond where we can peacefully change it, then we have the ability to do as our founding fathers did to create a new government and restore freedom.
      So yes, in a way it is out of love for times of old. These ideas are timeless, and so far it seems to be working pretty damn well. You speak English and you're actually pretty good at it. I don't speak your language, yet the world learns to speak English because of a certain "failed capitalist" country. Our money is accepted all over the world, our dollar is trusted more than anyone else's, and we got people building boats out of trash to sail the dangerous seas just to get here. We got people clamoring in masses trying to get here, one way or another, and it's not because we're a terrible place to be.
      You don't understand what this whole "obsession" with guns is all about, but to sum it up we believe in a powerful, free country of citizens, not subjects, and our right to own firearms is the quiet guardian to ensure it stays that way. The worst atrocities of human life and dignity occurred at the hands of governments where the state had the power, not the people, and the state had the guns and not any of the people did.
      Not everything is going to be perfect, there will be accidents and mistakes, and people will die that shouldn't have had to. The answer is not to guarantee the future slavery of generations by giving up the last barrier of free men, the answer is to train, educate, and teach people how to be safe and efficient with the guns. The guns will always be here, whether we like it or not -we can train and educate to be safer with them or ignore the issue and watch those horrific numbers get even worse. No thanks, not in the United States.

    Guns should be locked up until a child is of age where their maturity matches their training. That is not suppose to be a government decree, it’s a parents choice. Some children who are 8 years old are mature enough to handle the responsibility of handling guns alone, other youths shouldn’t be trusted until they are 16-17 or even never. This must be established by the family and after 18, established by the courts.

I Taught her how to aim and fire it at a safe direction. I work with her 6 to 10 weeks and if I lay my peace on the table ( which I don't if I'm not in the same room I lock it in the gun box) she knows not to ever mess with a firearm without an adult. Kailey knows guns are not toys and don't play with them like they are she is smart girl to come and tell someone that ther is a gun in an un safe place. The doctor wasn't being asked her opinion on firearms, she was being consulted on why it's a bad idea to let kids near guns because of their still developing brains, specifically on impulse control. The doctor, a pediatrician, is uniquely qualified to comment on the impulse control kids have, or, more accurately, *don't* have. Yes a 9 year old can parrot back to you the 4 rules of gun safety, and they can demonstrate how to go get an adult if they see a gun, but their brains haven't developed the necessary impulse control to NOT pick up a gun and play with it, as was evident in the video, even if they can repeat verbatim gun safety rules.
      That was the argument the doctor was making, which makes a *lot* of sense. If you have kids, your guns need to be under lock and key.
