And he went in with a clowns nose on and did a comedy routine just to make his friend know that if he could still laugh then life could go on. Interesting fact, Christopher was beginning to regain some movement and sensations. He was so hellbent. I swear that if he hadn't of become ill he might of pushed his way to having more and more movement even walking with assistance. In in willpower to overcome, he really was a Superman.

I actually prefer the theatrical version more, but that's just because I grew up watching that, if I had come in without having seen this movie and seen this version, it'd be good, and it is good, I just enjoy the original more. I like both and have both, but the original is my go-to.
Lois's analogy about being married to a doctor is a perfect example of why it *could* work. It's not like Clark is Superman 24/7; he spends time at work and time at his apartment in Metropolis. There's no reason he couldn't spend his "down time" with Lois.
The biggest source of angst for Superman imo is that he wishes he could be everywhere all the time, but he just can’t. He may be a Super man, but he’s still only a man and can only be in one place at a time and has personal needs too. Every night when Superman goes home and puts his head to the pillow is a moment like the end of Schindler’s List. “I could have done more!” We’re not really seen that in such detail but if you want to really explore the tragic side of having Superman’s powers, that’s it. It’s certainly not “I don’t owe this world anything!”
@@bradenhogan2 dude, those words did not come out of Henry Cavill's Superman. That was from his mother. On top of that, modern day Superman doesn't neglect his romance. He ended up marrying Lois, and they had a kid. In Superman and Lois, they have two boys.
@@mainstreetsaint36 ohh sorry it wasn’t Superman, just literally the most formative person to his decision to become Superman that said that. In the Superman mythology, it’s often his Ma Kent who plants the idea in his head to use his powers to help others. That was the case in the origin in Superman #1, the first version of the origin to show more of the Kents. To take that character and turn her into literally the opposite is to have a Superman whose motivations are CONFUSED… Not complicated, confused. Like he doesn’t know what he wants to do or why he wants to use his powers the way he does
I think it was implied he had to give up his powers to have an intimate relationship with her (although they don't say why) and the world needed him to use his powers. But in the 90s TV series, Lois Lane and Clark Kent start a relationship (after she has learned to love Clark as a person and then learns the secret) and their coworkers and other acquaintances see two reporter co-workers falling in love and getting married. Lois is "officially" Clark's wife. The premise there was, Superman is Clark in the disguise, not the other way around.
I always wondered if it was fair to take her love for him away. Sure, it hurt like hell to be around him and not be *with* him as she wanted to be but love is such a rare and life-giving force, it's the thing that keeps us trying and keeps us alive, really. She knew he was her love and that he loved her back even if he felt he couldn't jeopardize his position in keeping everyone on earth safe. Even lost love can keep you warm sometimes.
In the Silver Age Superman had far greater powers then today. Super cooling breath was one that he used in this movie. Super Ventriloquism was one as well. He could literally throw his voice. Super Hypnotism was another.
The scene between Chris and Margo outside the fortress of solitude after he destroys it.... and they kiss. That is the best in my honest opinion Margot Kidder ever looked in her life. She was very pretty here and it is such a sweet and tender scene. It should’ve remained in the final cut of the film. I just wish in retrospect that Richard diner would’ve stayed on and completed 23 and maybe even for work. How different things would have been for this franchise. Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder were the best to ever portray these characters ever. The first two films specifically were a major parts of my youth. Wonderful memories!
Margot Kiddar and Christopher Reeve were first and foremost good and decent people. Even though it is a movie, it is still possible to feel that it is two extraordinary people, a kind of innocence and beauty that is not so much found today. I pray that there will be a desire before our God to have their rest in heaven, and we will get to see them in the resurrection soon!
Would love to see Superman the movie and superman 2 put together as one movie with both donner cut and lester scenes all in it be great because one and two is just one big nealy 6 hour movie be fantastic to watch
I prefer the Richard Donner Cut overall, but preferred Richard Lesters ending. With Donners cut it was like the whole thing didnt happen and Zod was still alive out there in space. With Lester, Zod was gone, defeated.
Reeve was the perfect man. Full package. He & margot had magical chemistry. She said in real life they started off bickering like brother & sister & came to love eachother like brother & sister. He was very young only 24 ! They both admit being from juliard so young his first big screen role ( he was successful immediately got on a soap & was so popular as the bad boy they gave him trouble when he wanted to leave to do a play w/ kepburn & to get superman right after is amazing. ) anyway he wanted to stay in character during the hrs of flying rehearsals she got bored & would tease him a lot & hed say to her " dont u stay in character ever ?" & she said " oh please chris weve been strapped together 15hrs today lighten up. Lol. I think being like family bro/sister buddy thing transferred beautifully. She said their characters also translated well. At first he was still very tall & very skinny like 160lbs at 6'4 she was stunned this string bean kid was supposed to be superman ( so much credit to him for getting that bulked up training w/ darth vader body builder himself ) she really was the ballsy woman lois became. The casting of these 2 was so brilliant. Chris also was nerdy very much clark but also a gentleman. Its funny how she said they bickered endlessly at first & then suddenly theyd have to look madly in love. Such great acting. I think its refreshing to hear two actors becoming like 2 siblings & close friends on a movie is nice. I think chris reactions ss clark to lois are hilarious esp in their first meeting. Him this wholesome boy from smallville listening to her going on about these crazy stories we hear shes writing like " sex drugs & orgys in nursing homes" & clark listening to this w/ his golly gee reactions lol. At the same time the 2 great immediate sexual tension " accidentally " when she shakes up a soda & is all over him trying to wipe it off right near his groin than right after her bumping herself accidentally right into his groin area where hes all sorry & her lookinh like back off me. Its so subtle funny sexy just great. Sux the scenes at the solitude & on her balcony are cut. They are heartbreaking b/c at that point they cant ever be together but have to pretend they are just " good old lois & clark " its also so sweet how he runs to get her a pizza she calls him super knowing he made her not remember & he always will. I never got why he couldnt just stay in disguise and date her as clark. Maybe it would just come out someday at work ? Clark/kal/supermans stories was so sad esp in donners cut as we learn how much he loves lois is tiring of serving humanity wants a real love life w/ lois & his dad says it cant happen unless hes mortal. I never knew why. I get superman cant be seen strolling around w/ her b/c his enemies could use a loved one to hurt him. The other i wonder can kal el being really an alien to earth not have seriously a child w/ an " earthling " or ya know to get that child. Anyway i wonder if zod didnt return he didnt get beat up by that bully as he took cheap shots but clark never saw his own blood or felt pain in his life ever on earth. Thats why i love the little details him saying to lois " wow my backs stiff " plus would lois really love him as clark? Id hope he wouldnt have to play the bumbling klutz anymore. Such a lonely life showed so much in donners cut. Esp given he has give up his dad to get his powers back. He went to him as the only one he really could talk to all those years plus hes all he has left from where hes from. Now all he has is going back still in love w/ lois playing the dork & his co workers treat him badly no more jor el & serve the planet. Plus superman cant die so everyone he loves will. Thats why losing talking to jor el breaks my heart the most actually. Its bad enough he actually tries to embrace him but realizes he cant. Than to lose him completely. So sad when jor el tells him look my life force has gotta go to give u powers again we will never speak again & kal el's " father no" is so sad. Geez superman is all powerful but sp tragic. Donner was a genius.
Superman 1, and 3 goes to show that a man like him could actually fly! Christopher Reeve had passed away, but he will never be forgotten to millions of his fans, all over the world ! R I P, Mr Reeves.
Definately!I've never loved Superman as much as I do when I get to see any of parts of what we're the best and that we're these beautiful and most magical scenes from my childhood favourite superhero films, which growing up in the eighties we're of the one and only sadly now late Christopher Reeves as the ultimate Superman. Alongside him, also my favourite and best and only Lois Lane, played by also very sad death of Margot Kidder. They oozed SO much chemistry and we're my absolute favourite back then, and still are now, in 2024. I did notice Margot Kidder (Lois Lane) had a lesser and lesser role unfortunately in the Superman sequels, and noticed that as a child, and had been saddened, not seeing as much of her.But I read as an adult, that she'd had something very serious happen, that had tragically realky affected her health. I think I read only last year, that she'd committed suicide, and that she'd had mental illness bless her.To me, she'll always be my favourite Lois Lane.Margot was born to play Lois, and if I'd had children, I'd have shown them Superman, from a young age and hopefully keep both Christopher Reeves' name alive, as the only and best Superman that graced the earth and to hopefully keep his memory alive.I remember clearly seeing the fourth installment at the cinema, back where I'm from with one of my brothers.I think Margot Kidder only had a few scenes in it and superman's enemy, had been some sun man or something. I enjoyed Richard Pryers part in the 3rd Superman and I think the sequels, could have been better especially come the fourth one.I can't help but wonder, if Margot Kidder hadn't been unwell bless her, maybe the sequels might've had a much better chance of surviving.Without her in them as much, they just weren't for me personally; the same.I'm so thankful, that I grew up in the 80's, they were the best times for epic movies ever!!!
If Superman was able to turn back time even erasing what the Phantom Zone villains did, then how would the people at the diner even remember who Clark Kent was and the damage that was done in the final scene?
@@SB992REBORN lol, first posted this comment over 8 years ago when that wasn't permitted. Should come up just fine with a search, just copy and paste. I'll add the link later.
Spinning the Earth backwards to turn back time was the originally ending for Superman II not Superman The Movie, since they were supposed to be one big story line.
@eugene1 Spinning the world makes more sense than the amnesia kiss but in Donner version the explosion was caused by Superman throwing one of Luthor's rockets into space from part one.
Undoing events by turning back time won't really help progress the story, Lois will eventually discover Clark's secret identity somewhere along the way since Lois has a nosey instinct a quality of extraordinary reporter like her would really get to the bottom of things.
It’s too bad they erased Lois’s memory in both versions. I like the idea of Superman trusting Lois with his secrets, and conversely that Lois would never sell him out.
The knowledge she had of Clark being Superman was too much for her to handle she couldn't tell a soul she was the only human being on the planet who had the biggest kept secret and she couldn't share it with anyone
He thought it was better to have her forget everything because he saw how her knowledge of who he was, and that they couldn't be together, was tormenting her. So he erased the events of the last few days from her memory out of compassion for her.
These movies didn't have that much faith in Lois as a person. They had a great actress in the role, and then wrote her a bit like an idiot with bad spelling.
Louis says she is too selfish and thats the most true thing she has ever said. She was in love with Superman just because he had super powers. Lana's love was authentic because she was in love with CLARK despite she didnt know he had any powers.
Donner's cut gets some criticism about the time travel part. But I feel like it's implied that Superman went and stopped Lex before the nukes were launched which started the whole thing. At the beginning of the Donner cut it does mention that it wasn't a complete film and it wasn't. I wonder if Donner's cut would have been a finished product that it would have been better. Yes there are things I like about both cuts. I like how Superman calls Lex a poisonous snake in the Donner cut. It seems like he's really pissed off.
Such a shame there both gone, but the memories will always live on in our hearts, Margot and Chris are the best superman and Lois ever, I grew up in the 80’s and in my opinion there the best. Xx
i hold SM2 VERY dear as it was with my mom when I was 9 we went to see it on opening day 33 years ago (she let me ditch school to take me :) IMO the chosen theatrical ending was superior, it sums up the story perfectly! this "new" ending creates all sorts of logic/plot holes i.e. why doesn't superman just spin the earth back to BEGIN with? sometimes studio heads know what they are doing...SOMETIMES ;) Apocalypse Now "Re-Dux" is an example where the deleted footage adding NOTHING to the film.
Honest to God I hoped Superman and Lois would tie the knot in this, but they didn't. I have the Richard Donner version of Superman 2 and it was the best. Screw Richard Lester, even though his only 2 masterpieces were 2 of the Beatles' movies; having Donner fired was one of the worst things to happen in this series.
doing time travel once was ok since I thought it was him pushed extreme by her death but having him have a reset button is way too powerful and kinda lame, He can redo anything it becomes a video game with respawns and if he ever dies supergirl could simply turn back time undoing his death. Its too godly to not make it a one time use!
The original idea was for the first film to end on a cliffhanger- Lois dead, but they ran out of money shooting the second film, so they stopped. Released the first film, made tons of money resumed and finished part II, drama occurred again with Donner getting fired.
Original end of Superman 1 ; Superman throws the " Hakensack " nuclear missle in space that frees the super villains. But Superman is not aware of that. Then Superman flys back to earth to save Callifornia And also Lois.
theres 2 of them, the Lester version and the Donner version. When filming superman ii, richard donner was fired for financial reasons and richard lester was hired to finish the film but i thibnk h re shot sum seens asn then then the film was released, thats the 1 im sure uve always seen. and then in 2006 richard donner went bak to the studio and grabbed all the old superman II film & footage he filmed and put it together and re edited it and it was released on blu ray. both hav different endings
They have two versions of superman 2 like they do with justice league now i figured they might do that anyway since they have two directors that made superman 2 like they did with justice league n probably with others movies too or other movies we don't know about neither they probably gonna start release two versions of movies lately on anyway lol🙏😎
Lois Lane (margot kidder) face changes a lot from scene to scene. Please look at her:) I think this is the big problem of the film. They mix donner's scenes with lester's scenes...with two years of difference.
Honestly both cuts screw up the ending, they should’ve removed both the memory wiping and the traveling back in time and just end it with Superman going to space
I've seen all the superman movies, and this makes me wonder what the hell I've been watching, cause I never saw Lois shoot Clark, even though it would've been awesome.
Leaving Lois to deal with her relationship with Superman seems more intriguing than having her memory of being with him wiped away with a " magic kiss". Although, I think the theatrical cut is better, there some scenes in the Donner version which are good.
This sequel and especially the first film is arguably the best Superman films ever was made (in my opinion) I remembered it like was yesterday. I guess I'm telling my age huh? Anywho we as uojng adults where so crazy to watch it on the big movie screen that some of us would go back to the theater and see it more than once. We already knew Clark had a thing for Lois Lane but was unsure of telling her yoh only really know until the end of the first movie Its too bad Christopher Reeves died many years ago.
Is it just me or does Margot Kidder look much younger in the first three minutes of this video? It has me thinking that this director's cut was meant for the first film, not the second. And isn't it great that Lois Lane finally figures it out about Clark Kent? She's no dummy after all, except that that part was left on the cutting room floor.
It turns out that there were two directors. Some of Margot Kidders scenes for Superman II were filmed in 1977 by Richard Donner. Other scenes were filmed by Richard Lester in 1979. Also in ‘79 Margot was depressed by a divorce she was going through during filming. She admitted to phoning in her reshot material because she was emotionally distraught at the time.
The "spinning around" trick that superman uses was supposed to be only used for part 2, but the producers liked how it looked so used it in part 1....so keep that in mind and don't think that every time superman just uses that trick to solve everything
Ils me manquent beaucoup 🙏
In the Future Wonder Woman is his woman. Lois is not in picture because she is probably dead from old age. Superman ages slow on earth and so do Wonder Woman who is almost immortal and ages slowly if any as do Superman.
So, it seems that Superman has some of the same skills that Spock has - the ability to selectively erase specific memories from a person via a mind meld.
Superman should find a woman like himself so he doesn’t have to worry about mishandling Lois accidentally in bed. He has to give up powers temporarily or he risk killing her.
Forse abbiamo perso la nostra umanità, ma Superman ci insegna che ognuno di noi è speciale, basta guardare dentro i nostri cuori ed essere semplici ed altruisti

I actually prefer the theatrical version more, but that's just because I grew up watching that, if I had come in without having seen this movie and seen this version, it'd be good, and it is good, I just enjoy the original more. I like both and have both, but the original is my go-to.
He was my first crush when I was 8. Got to be those Blue eyes
Portrayal of True Lovers Life YEAH😍😍😎😎😍😃😍😎😎😀😎😎
beautiful, beautiful man
Lois's analogy about being married to a doctor is a perfect example of why it *could* work.
It’s certainly not “I don’t owe this world anything!”
.@@bradenhogan2
Still the best - no one will be superman apart from Christopher Reeve
Christopher reeve is so handsome I can either observe his acting or his beautiful face
I like seeing the 3 criminals reimprisoned in the Phantom Zone in their eternal living death as they earned with their evil ways.
Rip Christopher Reeve
Lester having Lois with a ashy cigarette hanging out of her mouth was making her come across as about as unattractive as possible.
This is why i use to say that the parting of True Lovers is one painful thing😮😮😮u😮😊
Rest in power to Chris and Maggot!
Sem dúvida não haverá outro superman...Christopher reeve será para sempre esse grande heroi
Jor El told him he was forbidden to interfere with human history. So he did it twice!
Shouldn't there be consequences for interfering with human history? I mean he did broke his father's orders.
@@jasminnemcdonald94A there is, he can’t be with Lois anymore do to the fact he interfered with human history.
YOU'RE DARN RIGHT HE DID!! He's Superman he can do whatever he wants 🤣
The Donner Cut is from the idea that the original ending of Superman the Movie where he [Superman] doesn't turn back time.
If Superman was able to turn back time even erasing what the Phantom Zone villains did, then how would the people at the diner even remember who Clark Kent was and the damage that was done in the final scene?
This superman had people really thinking they can fly growing up.
Lester's ending, fixes Lois knowing Superman's secret identity problem, Donner's ending, fixes that and all the property damage as well.
I think that time has shown that the correct choice was made regarding where to put the reversing time ending.
Watch this video here on UA-cam, gives a lot of background on the situation:
Superman II & Richard Donner cut - Retrospective / Review in HD
add the LINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@SB992REBORN lol, first posted this comment over 8 years ago when that wasn't permitted. Should come up just fine with a search, just copy and paste. I'll add the link later.
Only Clark and Lois I will ever acknowledge.
Superman doing that AGAIN reversing time is putting another risk at general zod and his team escaping.🤷🏻♂️
If i closed my eyes,I can hear the voice of Monica Geller..(Courtney Cox) hahahahaha
I liked the first ending far better. She wouldn't want to forget, certainly not by a 'magical' kiss.
Beautifull film. Christopher Reeves. just wow, lois and clarke a bigger love story than Romeo and Juliet
Lol
1979
i love the begin scene i must cry of it
Spinning the Earth backwards to turn back time was the originally ending for Superman II not Superman The Movie, since they were supposed to be one big story line.
@eugene1 Spinning the world makes more sense than the amnesia kiss but in Donner version the explosion was caused by Superman throwing one of Luthor's rockets into space from part one.
I love how he flies off. Henry sounds like a jet fighter taking off.
Undoing events by turning back time won't really help progress the story, Lois will eventually discover Clark's secret identity somewhere along the way since Lois has a nosey instinct a quality of extraordinary reporter like her would really get to the bottom of things.
thats where it was supposed to be thats why donner added it in there plus moo!
Also, the universe is deterministic, so if you turn back time and then run it forwards again, the same stuff will just happen again. 🤓
@@lebojay Depends.
And, at least, with the memory, she would know that he actually loved her - and would be with her if he could be with anyone.
Yeah, that's one area where the movies don't age well. Shame too because her banter with Clark has also better chemistry than with Superman.
This is True Lovers Talk🇮🇳😁😅😚😃😃🌭😎😎😎😎
Louis says she is too selfish and thats the most true thing she has ever said. She was in love with Superman just because he had super powers. Lana's love was authentic because she was in love with CLARK despite she didnt know he had any powers.
hheheheheh WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Lois AND CLark AND LanA DESERVE EACHOTHER BECAUSE THEY ARE EACHOTHERS SUPERHERO!!!!!! also bthe way, who`s Louis?
She never loved Clark, just Superman. Can you imagine if Clark never got his powers back.
I like that Superman doesn’t kill in this version.
It seems like he's really pissed off.
its complete...... and thats it being complete!!!!!!!
QUE HOMBRE!!,... 6.0 HERMOSOS OJOS Y MIRADA IMPRESIONANTE!!!
THE BEST FOREVER CRIS...
Such a shame there both gone, but the memories will always live on in our hearts, Margot and Chris are the best superman and Lois ever, I grew up in the 80’s and in my opinion there the best. Xx
as much as I detest Lester's ending minus the mind wipe kiss, it was top notch, emotion and acting
Wow,that was great!
i hold SM2 VERY dear as it was with my mom when I was 9 we went to see it on opening day 33 years ago (she let me ditch school to take me :) IMO the chosen theatrical ending was superior, it sums up the story perfectly! this "new" ending creates all sorts of logic/plot holes i.e. why doesn't superman just spin the earth back to BEGIN with? sometimes studio heads know what they are doing...SOMETIMES ;) Apocalypse Now "Re-Dux" is an example where the deleted footage adding NOTHING to the film.
I have the Richard Donner one too
The Superman 2 Donner cut has a way better explanation on the repowering scene. they just completely left it out of the original theatrical Lester cut
Me both scenes work beautifully
doing time travel once was ok since I thought it was him pushed extreme by her death but having him have a reset button is way too powerful and kinda lame, He can redo anything it becomes a video game with respawns and if he ever dies supergirl could simply turn back time undoing his death. Its too godly to not make it a one time use!
It is forbidden to interfere with human history!
The original idea was for the first film to end on a cliffhanger- Lois dead, but they ran out of money shooting the second film, so they stopped. Released the first film, made tons of money resumed and finished part II, drama occurred again with Donner getting fired.
Original end of Superman 1 ; Superman throws the " Hakensack " nuclear missle in space
that frees the super villains.
Superman and santa 🎅 are neighbours
Watch Superman 2 the Richard Donner cut released in 2006
Leaving Lois to deal with her relationship with Superman seems more intriguing than having her memory of being with him wiped away with a " magic kiss".
Although, I think the theatrical cut is better, there some scenes in the Donner version which are good.
It wasn't a magical kiss.
Superman has psychic abilities and he wiped her memory
1979
She's no dummy after all, except that that part was left on the cutting room floor.
donner scenes were shot at the same time so yeah, she is the same as in !
He does on Robot Chicken lol.
1979
both have sadly died now
Superman should have kept ursa for his concubine.
Ils me manquent beaucoup 🙏
Time travel should have consequences
