I always thought it was funny how Margot would explain how they would bicker like older sister and younger brother. She said she had to pretend Chris was Harrison Ford when she was doing those love scenes. I wonder who Chris was envisioning?

“Lois, I don’t know what to say.” That was truly a heartfelt and tear-jerking line from Clark (Christopher Reeve) and one that carries so much weight in contrast especially when we’re so used to seeing the character masquerading as a goofy nerd (even if just to dissuade Lois and others from believing Clark and Superman are one and the same). It felt so real. This line was truly heartfelt and showed that even a Kryptonian can be just as human as those from earth.

Too bad this scene wasn't in the Donner Cut. It was so great. Made me cry when I first saw it. The ending of Superman II is about the emotional aftermath of Superman's relationship with Lois. It focuses on Supes' human side more than the original.
I love the Donner Cut, but I feel like him so staunchly refusing to use Lester's footage was to its detriment. I wouldn't have ended the movie with the time reversing beat. I would have stuck to most of the Lexter ending, with the diner scene, flag return, and then end it with this scene. I simply would have cut out the memory loss part and faded out as they kissed. Sure, we lose the "smile as he flies past the camera" shot but it would have been a more emotionally satisfying film and would have given us a better cut of the film that ends in a way that doesn't give us the same beat from the previous movie (even though I know it was originally intended for the sequel).

They would have scrapped the entire movie and started from scratch if they could have. But Gene Hackman refused to be in Superman II following Donner's termination. Fortunately Hackman let the Salkinds use the existing footage, unlike Marlon Brando who insisted he be removed completely from the film, lest the Salkinds pay him millions of dollars. So long story short, I think its fair that Donner would remove as much of Lester's scenes as possible. Revenge is sweet.

Flawed editing, cheap digital effects, awkward transitions, and some moments that were better left out. We can never have a perfect version of Donner's Superman II because we can't just time travel back to 1979 and convince the Salkinds not to fire Donner. And I think just from watching some of the new footage, I don't think everyone had down to a T what they were doing yet.
There are a few lines missing here. Right after 1:44 he says “now lois , it may not be easy for you to hear this but someday...” to which she says: “clark, don’t tell me that I’ll meet someone. You’re kind of a tough act to follow”. This is definitely one of my favorite scenes from this movie. Also that gasp at 1:57 is almost like the sound of a heart breaking.
Pretty sure that was the extended TV cut you are thinking of. Somewhere packed away I have the "Special Edition" RCA CED disc versions of the first two Superman films, and SII seems like a mix of the theatrical and the TV version - there are small beats and lines and cuts that are not on the original VHS theatrical release, or the later DVD's

i saw this classic yesterday on cable for the umpteenth time....this will always be most favorite Superman movie of all time - i still remember the anticipation and excitement that i had as a kid for the whole week leading up to the day when i went to watch it at the theaters! I did not even remember this scene at that time - but now after all these years ,i find this scene so beautiful and natural that it does not look like acting... great stuff. There must have been 50 super hero movies since this one. And none have a single scene that matches the gravity of this scene. Even the simple shot of Clarke’s glasses going onto the table is moving. Amazing performances and direction.

I think it is time to admit that Lester made some important contributions to the Superman movies. It is scene like this, where he gets great performances from both Kidder and Reeve. The same goes for the much derived "Pink Bear" reveal scene, where Superman slips and "accicently" puts his hand into the fireplace (it is heavily implied that Clark subconsciously did it on purpose, which basically matches and continues the scene in Superman the Movie, where he almost gave up his secret identity after his first flight with Lois. Some of the scenes with Clark and Lana in Superman III where amazing, too.

Personally, I wouldn’t have made Lois forget. This is an issue with both versions of the film tbh. Imagine what great drama we could’ve had in Part 3 with Lois dealing with the stress and depression that comes with knowing his identity. This scene is a tantalising hint of what we could’ve had. Personally, I would’ve had Clark leave silently, and the continued that into the next film...

I actually think Clark secretly gives Lois a heat vision lobotomy/spectral seizure to make her forget. That would make more sense and be more practical. He just needed the excuse of the kiss to get in close and go in directly through the eyes.

Margot Kiddar and Christopher Reeve were first and foremost good and decent people. Even though it is a movie, it is still possible to feel that it is two extraordinary people, a kind of innocence and beauty that is not so much found today. I pray that there will be a desire before our God to have their rest in heaven, and we will get to see them in the resurrection soon!
Actually nothing is further from the truth. She loves Superman and She likes Clark. While Clark is a bit boring and a coward, he is a very nice guy someone you can talk to about anything. Hell during the times when she didn't know they were one and the same, she would vent to Clark about problems she has with Superman.
I prefer this ending, minus the amnesia kiss. It coincides with the balcony scene in the Donner version (and the ABC TV edit). Lois was crying all night, she's struggling with her emotions, she could barely work, she couldn't focus on anything...this is what a broken heart looks like. In the Donner version, Superman flies off, Lois is on the balcony in tears, she walks into her apartment heartbroken and depressed, somehow was able to block all of that out, and eagerly type out that big career advancing story about how Superman saved humanity from eternal domination. The Lester version makes more sense. Kinda wish they kept in Margot Kidder's "Up Up and Away" line in the TV version.
But reality check... all Superman had to do was 'say that he loved her' and sleep over PERMANENTLY rather than flying off after dropping Louise home. Solution solved !!
Though the amnesia kiss thing is kinda cheesy, I always thought this scene was well done. Even when I wasn't old enough to understand the dialog, you KNEW what was happening with them

Yeah they had amazing chemistry! Although I don't think Margot Kidder had any feelings for Christopher Reeves rather than being friend. Don't know about Reeves..if he even had any feeling for her then it probably wouldn't be more than a silly crush..like lots of guy friends have on their female friends..but nothing serious. I just realized something, what if it wasn't the kiss that erased her memory. I watched Superman vs the Elite and it's shown that if he uses his X-ray vision along with his heat vision he could carefully scalpel certain parts of the brain. What if he did that to her.
I've known these movies like the back of my hand since I was in my single digits, but I don't think I ever truly appreciated this scene until this point in my life, a couple of decades later. True, a fire fighter or police officer would have been a better analogy than doctor, maybe, but overall the writing and performances present a realistic, raw situation between two people in love. Aside from the amnesia kiss, this scene is one of the best Lois & Clark scenes from any of the four Reeve films.
Maybe it's just me, but if the woman I loved only cared about me because of my superpowers I'd cut that bitch off REAL quick. That's one thing I never quite got over with these movies, even though they're some of my favorite. Lois doesn't seem to love "Clark", she loves "Superman" which is understandable, but at the same time somewhat superficial. If he never revealed the truth to her you get the impression that he'd pine for her all her life and she'd never even notice him.
Louis-“It’s like being married to a doctor.” Clark-“Do even you know who I am? I can circle the globe ten times in three minutes. What doctor can do anything approaching that?!”

I actually think Clark secretly gives Lois a heat vision lobotomy/spectral seizure to make her forget. That would make more sense and be more practical. He just needed the excuse of the kiss to get in close and go in directly through the eyes.

Margot Kiddar and Christopher Reeve were first and foremost good and decent people. Even though it is a movie, it is still possible to feel that it is two extraordinary people, a kind of innocence and beauty that is not so much found today. I pray that there will be a desire before our God to have their rest in heaven, and we will get to see them in the resurrection soon!

She likes Clark. While Clark is a bit boring and a coward, he is a very nice guy someone you can talk to about anything. Hell during the times when she didn't know they were one and the same, she would vent to Clark about problems she has with Superman.

I prefer this ending, minus the amnesia kiss. It coincides with the balcony scene in the Donner version (and the ABC TV edit). Lois was crying all night, she's struggling with her emotions, she could barely work, she couldn't focus on anything...this is what a broken heart looks like. In the Donner version, Superman flies off, Lois is on the balcony in tears, she walks into her apartment heartbroken and depressed, somehow was able to block all of that out, and eagerly type out that big career advancing story about how Superman saved humanity from eternal domination. The Lester version makes more sense. Kinda wish they kept in Margot Kidder's "Up Up and Away" line in the TV version.

Though the amnesia kiss thing is kinda cheesy, I always thought this scene was well done. Even when I wasn't old enough to understand the dialog, you KNEW what was happening with them
Lois and Clark here remind me of my beautiful beloved Alina and myself. I love Alina so much (and I'm pretty sure that she loves me, too); but she and I can not be together now. I try to keep it in the back of my mind; but sometimes I can't help but rail at the unfairness of it all--God, why do I love Alina so much?!!

Except Clark Kent is the disguise, Superman (Kal-El) is the actual person. So Lois loves him for who he truly is.

Valeshia Lloyd No, it's called acting. Kidder was never into Reeve. She always thought he was too "preppy" for her. She always thought of Reeve as a brother. Her real crush was Harrison Ford. Reeve was married and had a son between Superman 1 & 2. However... Reeve DID get intimate with Jane Seymour on the set of "Somewhere in Time."

Yeah they had amazing chemistry! Although I don't think Margot Kidder had any feelings for Christopher Reeves rather than being friend. Don't know about Reeves..if he even had any feeling for her then it probably wouldn't be more than a silly crush..like lots of guy friends have on their female friends..but nothing serious. But yeah they had something special.

I just realized something, what if it wasn't the kiss that erased her memory. I watched Superman vs the Elite and it's shown that if he uses his X-ray vision along with his heat vision he could carefully scalpel certain parts of the brain. What if he did that to her.

I've known these movies like the back of my hand since I was in my single digits, but I don't think I ever truly appreciated this scene until this point in my life, a couple of decades later. True, a fire fighter or police officer would have been a better analogy than doctor, maybe, but overall the writing and performances present a realistic, raw situation between two people in love. Aside from the amnesia kiss, this scene is one of the best Lois & Clark scenes from any of the four Reeve films.
A kiss would wipe out her mind? I can't say this is the best story twist in movies.

Maybe it's just me, but if the woman I loved only cared about me because of my superpowers I'd cut that bitch off REAL quick.
That's one thing I never quite got over with these movies, even though they're some of my favorite. Lois doesn't seem to love "Clark", she loves "Superman" which is understandable, but at the same time somewhat superficial. If he never revealed the truth to her you get the impression that he'd pine for her all her life and she'd never even notice him.
Compare the emotion in this scene with the marvel pap tipped on the heads of youngsters.
