    I had Creeping Charlie in my back yard for years and had tried several different herbicides to get rid of it without success until I found this Triclopyr Ester. It does take 3-4 weeks to see results. The Creeping Charlie did come back the next year but to a much lesser extent so I applied the Triclopyr (pronounced TRI - klo - peer) Ester again with better results this time and now my back yard is Creeping Charlie free. THIS STUFF WORKS ON CREEPING CHARLIE. My neighbors on both sides still have Creeping Charlie in their yards and I have offered to help them with it, but they declined so every now and then when the Creeping Charlie gets close to my property I will "accidentally" get a little dose in to their yards. Also, I DO use a surfactant with this herbicide with very good results.

    I've been using triclopyr on my yard for several years but primarily to get rid of clover that keeps coming back. This product also takes care of dandelions and every other weed that invades the lawn. Triclopyr is actually formulated for killing brush and it does a good job of it so be careful around shrubs and other desirable plants.

    Creeping Charlie and Wild Violets have been taking over my lawn for about 4 years and I have been unable to find anything that will get rid of them....until now. I just happened upon this video while checking to see what Ryan Knorr was up to lately and thought I'd check it out. Can't thank you enough. Triclopyr worked great! I could see it was working within 24 to 48 hours and after exactly 2 weeks any weed it touched was dead even the Wild Violet. Great stuff.

    Found your video by chance today. We live in a clearing in the middle of the woods and since we’ve gotten so much rain and warm weather this year, it has went from creeping to crazy in no time! However, if it weren’t for weeds and moss, we probably wouldn’t have any green in our yard at all. 😂 gonna go get some of this today and see what we end up with! I used to have a lot of Creeping Charlie (CC) in my back yard (shadier than the front yard, and also it comes across from the back yard neighbor's yard which seems to be MOSTLY Creeping Charlie. I essentially got rid of it using the Weed-B-Gone product (the version that says it works on Creeping Charlie). I followed the application instructions provided by the manufacturer's phone support folks. Their advice:
    - If their product is applied in Spring or during the Summer, it will have little effect on the CC.
    - The time to apply it is in the Fall, when many other plants seem to be dying off or going dormant for the Winter, but while the grass is still green and growing a bit. At this time, the CC is most active in absorbing nutrients from everywhere it can in order to store the energy in the roots for the Winter. Under these conditions, the CC will be most likely to absorb the sprayed product that gets on its leaves.
    - One application will not result in enough stored product to kill the CC. One application per week for three weeks is what I did.
    - It will seem to have no effect on the CC that season, because the product is not directly and instantly toxic to the plant. But the goal again is to get the CC to store a lot of it in the roots.
    - During the Winter and next Spring when the CC is trying to come out of its dormant state, it is finally affected by the product stored in its roots, and it can't grow and dies.
    Following these instructions, the next season when the grass is starting to grow again, it becomes apparent that no CC can be found anywhere on my yard. It stays gone for the next couple of years, but finally starts to creep back into my yard from the neighbor's yard, so I repeat the treatment.
    ***********
    BUT, I learned a different way to kill CC even quicker and 'deader' than with the Weed-B-Gone or other selective herbicide products....Round-Up, carefully applied. Here is what I did when treating my parent's lawn, which was getting patches of CC that migrated into their yard in some 'infected' sod they had put down:
    - A small container with Round-Up in it. This is a shallow, wide dish that is not likely to tip over. I used a small condiment dish about 5" diameter and perhaps 3/4" tall.
    - That dish rests on folded paper towel on a plastic Tupperware bowl lid (one about 12" in diameter), or similar non-absorbing wide surface that won't be affected by the Round-Up.
    - If a little product spills from the bowl, it gets absorbed and contained by the paper towel, and is prevented from getting on the lawn by the plastic layer. Wide bowl and wide plastic layer underneath discourages accidental spilling.
    - I wear rubber kitchen gloves, with a normal brown "Jersey" work glove over the rubber glove on my primary hand (the one I write with).
    - I take my apparatus to each patch of CC on the lawn, and set it down next to the patch.
    - I get the gloved thumb and forefinger wet with the product by dipping into the bowl (like using a finger bowl).
    - I grab a CC leaf between those two Round-up moistened gloved fingers, then quickly briefly grab other randomly selected leaves in the same patch; it is only necessary to grab a few CC leaves per patch.
    - If done right, no product will drip from the touched leaves onto the grass. It helps to grab those leaves which stand a bit more isolated from nearby grass.
    In two or three days, all of the CC leaves in each treated patch have shriveled and disappeared. The CC does not come back; it is dead through and through.

    I was so excited to see this video from The Lawn Lover to finally rid my lawn of Creeping Charlie. I purchased the Hi Yield Triclopyr, followed the video using a Hudson sprayer, treating the Creeping Charlie per instructed with 3/4 oz per gallon of water and now three weeks later it looks like it was never touched! The weed looks like it is just fine, the only thing changed is my grass has yellowed wherever I sprayed! I took before and after pictures and the creeping charlie looks the same. So disappointed, wasted so much time and the cost of the product. 🙁

    • @TheLawnLover
      @TheLawnLover  11 днів тому +1

      I am sorry you did not have success with this product on your creeping charlie. I sprayed mine twice and it killed it off and remains clear of the creeping charlie two years later since I now apply pre emergent in that area. Several others in the comments also had great success with it as well. The only thing I would say about the yellowing grass is what was the air temp when you applied it? You definitely want to apply this when the air is cooler - I am not sure where you are located. Once the grass recovers, I would spray the creeping charlie again to see if you have better success. Thanks for watching, good luck

    To add to the information that has been given by other folks. It's best to spray in the fall. This will weaken the plant over winter. The other time is after flowering in the spring. The plant will have used alot of energy to flower. If your neighbor has creeping charlie, ask if you can spray their lawn where it connects to your lawn. You will have to spray every year to stop theirs from creeping to your yard.

    Wanted to share that here on Illinois, I applied in July and had mixed results. Ironically, in area where they was almost no lawn grass, the weed was almost fully eliminated. On the lawn where creeping Charlie is mixed in, it didn’t have much effect.
    I will be applying again for Labor Day now that daytime temps are in the 70s and 80s to see if results are better.
    Also I’ve heard that mixing 2-4-D in as a combo can yield good results. Thoughts?

    • @TheLawnLover
      @TheLawnLover  Місяць тому +2

      Mixing 24D into the mix will definitely make it more potent on some other broadleaf weeds, but I am unsure if it will make the triclopyr more effective on the creeping charlie because I personally have not tried it. Depending on how bad your creeping charlie outbreak is, it definitely may require a few applications to full kill it. Mine took 2 applications to fully get rid of it. You will likely have better success in the lower temps. Good luck!

    Mix 3 tablespoons of borax in a 7 liter watering can with 7 liters of water.

      Thanks for the sub, I appreciate it! If you are looking to kill crabgrass (but not your lawn), you want the active ingredient "Quinclorac". Most herbicides at the box stores include this in them, but if you have a bad crabgrass outbreak, I would go with something stronger (with a higher active ingredient of quinclorac). Using a surfactant (or a little dish soap) in the mix will help it stick to the leaf blades better and work more effectively.

      The results video was linked at the end of the video - here is the link ua-cam.com/video/WktYv-9xQwQ/v-deo.html. I split this into a separate video to discuss and show the results. Thanks for watching.

      That's awesome. This is good stuff. It took me two applications and with annual pre emergent apps it remains creeping charlie free.

      No, this herbicide can't be used while overseeding as it will kill the new seedlings. Thanks for watching!

    The bottle says it also kills Bermuda grass. What kind of grass do you have in the video?

      My lawn is a cool season mix primarily comprised of tall fescue.
