So exciting watching you catch crappie and nice bluegill on your new Ultra lite rod! Of course with the Tootie lure my favorite Mr. B’s decided to take a bite too! You had lots of fun seeing that rod bend and waiting to see what was coming up out of the water!! Loved the show and can’t wait to be back with you fishing in warmer water spring days!❤️ RTR. Lorraine
Thanks Sis and wow, our fave panfish pit (Lake PP? Hahaha) came through in spades once again. The MDC had mowed the trail all the way from the TL40 parking area and Mr. T had even been kind enough to cut brush on his short entry path, very nice of him to have done that. Only after experiencing all those fish on the WF rod (whippy flippy) did I decide to make the show about it. I didn't bother to include the fish caught on my second rod! This season has been very educational since I never fished PP so late in the year. Very interesting results....but I used the lessons learned on 14 Dec in Christmas 🎄 pond - with good outcome in even colder water. See you soon RTR xxxxxoo 🦇🦇🦇 Don
Thanks, Rick and so nice to hear comments from fellow tubers. Your 7-6 Shake UL sounds nice. My only other ultralight is a 5-6 Lew's but I usually pass it up for 9 or 10-6 light action long poles. This rod feels ultra ultralight so it was a new experience. What I noticed the most was that the strongest bass were not pulling drag (even though it was set fairly loose); rather the force was absorbed somehow by the carbon rope. Have a wonderful holiday season and Merry Christmas, Don
@@Winkiedoodles Hi Don, I fish a lot of fly rods and love the long rods, it absorbs the shock and I can run lighter leaders. Hope you have a wonderful holidays and a great new year, Rick.
Awesome video Don thanks for posting! That is an amazing spot! I've been wondering about that brand, I see it on Amazon I'll have to check it out . Have a merry Christmas and God bless you and yours 😁
Thanks a lot Greg. We probably both saw the ad pop up on Amazon. I read customer reviews and had mixed feelings about it but thought I'd try it out since an ultralight under $30 is really rare and we have Prime so no shipping costs. That little MDC pond has been a perennial favorite for years and the spring/summer bluegill are great. Definitely worth the hike. The crappie have surprised me this year too. I think the secret is that it grows both lily pads and hydrilla thus making a smorgasbord of chow for panfish. Nice bass, too. Santa comes soon....Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family. Hope your health is better. Don
Yes indeed, the crappie and bass stole the show, Bill! I'm sure you know all about unexpected surprises when your float goes down. I never would have predicted that tiny jig i designed, when vertically jigged, would catch such a mixed bag. It sure was fun and added to my understanding of that body of water this time of year - for future reference. Hope all's well with you guys and your Christmas will be wonderful. Don
Thanks a lot, Darren. If you ever tire of chasing those Nuisance (hahaha) bass (and there's nothing biting in shallow, colder water), you know what to do. The 'tail count' went way up when the active fish were found in deeper water. Hope all's well on your end and that you holidays will be great for you and your family. Merry Christmas, Don
Spot on, Dennis and thanks for always sensing the vibe of these type of excursions. Suffice it to say, fishing this pond at the end of November was a first and a roll of the dice that turned 7. I think the spells of high winds and roller coaster temperatures this season have been a gauntlet drop challenge to get out at any reasonable time. Santa comes soon; Merry Christmas! Don
Thanks so much for stopping by Pete. I love this ultra light outfit and used it a lot last year. For 2023, I'll be using an ultra light casting outfit (BFS) from time to time as well. Have a blessed week, Don
UL fishing is a blast. Caught my PB UL catfish (~8 lbs) on a 7 ft uglystik with 4 lb line while trout fishing. If it wasn’t for the bend in the rod, I don’t think I would have landed it
Wow, congrats on getting that 8 lb kitty in on an UL! Had to have been a blast. I have used a shorter 5'6" Lews UL for a long time and other "long poles/crappie rods" but this crazy 7 ft 2 pc job is waaay more whippy flippy. The diameter is really small, esp in the upper section, which is almost like a rope. Nonetheless, it was super sensitive and lots of fun to fish with. As you mentioned, the bend in the rod seems to be an important design feature but it sure looks crazy when there's a big fish on the line. I got lucky with the circa 3 lb bass in this outing but don't want to tangle with a 20" one hahaha. I'll be using it (as advertised) as a trout rod in a few weeks and it might even hook more fish than my typical light weight outfits. Best wishes, Don
Thanks Eric. This was a very fun adventure indeed. I decided to change the focus from just fishing to the rod review after experiencing how much fun this whippy flippy rod was. I wouldn't have believed it until I fished it. Two days ago I took it out a second time and it did really well for vertical jigging crappie and bluegill. Also I think I've finally got the right reel and line...took a while to match it all up. I got this rod on Amazon out of pure curiosity. It was only about $29 for the model 210 seven foot one. A couple of days after I ordered it I got an email saying it was on special for $23. Just my luck! 😊😊😊 Merry Christmas, Don

Awesome job Don, I love ultra light fishing. I’ve got a 7-6 Shakespeare, love it in the float tube. Thanks again for taking us along.

Don, you really have to enjoy days like this, since we don't get too many of them. Great fishing, for November.

enjoyed the ride along. Where, by chance did you get this Rod. All I'm finding is colapsable poles by them. Thank you in advance...

@@Winkiedoodles None to worry Don, it's upto 32.99...
when I checked after reading your message...
@@ericpierce4510 Ha, kinda crazy that one little item's price would go on a roller coaster ride. Hope I didn't cause the spike by posting this vid!
