I remember those days too, what always stands out to me is the plastic beads and earrings to match the colour of any outfit! Modern revivals of 80s fashion never includes plastic beads 😂 I remember when I realised the best way to wear pointy shoes is to buy them a size too large so your toes aren’t crushed. Happy days 😊
Audrey had the bare faced cheek to blame Deirdre for Alf’s heart attack when it’s clearly his poor lifestyle that’s the culprit. The stress of having to work harder to fund his wife’s expensive tastes with little help from her probably hasn’t helped either. Ivy is right about Audrey. She’s toxic just like Gail.
@@cherylreid-panasiewicz6485 same. I don't really remember her from this time, I only remember her from around the mid to late 90's and they did a great spin on making believe she was as distant from the rotten bastard she really was 😂

The only reason people know about, Mavis and Derek, is because Rita has got a big mouth. When it comes to her private life, she wants Mavis to be discreet.
Rita seems to think she's a grown up person who has a proper life and can be taken seriously, and Mavis, her 'best friend', is naive, prudish and a bit of a joke she can amuse herself with. I've always found their relationship very unequal and unpleasant, Rita laughs at Mavis and encourages other people to do the same.
The beginning of 'Deirdre Barlow's Perm Years' ! I, for one, preferred the Deirdre with the poker straight hair....from now on it's all frizz in her future...🤣
😂 I've also been anticipating the drastic Deirdre hair changes. I cannot believe how much it ages her, the perm and then going short. Her original hair was amazing.
the guy Pete with Terry and curly. Did he go on to play Gary mallet in coronation street in 1997 . who was married to Judy mallet whom they have twins children.

Ken 1000% started the issues with Alf. Alf asked many times for him to stop, Ken refused. Alf finally defended himself and in turn Derdrie went after him guns blazing. Then AGAIN Alf asked for peace and they shoved it up his nose. Now Ken has the guts to be outraged that Audrey told them how it is?!? I can’t take them, I hope they get what they deserve
@@alexanderjones9572 They didn’t use it for the Rovers fire or when Alan attacked Rita! Sounded like something from a horror movie! The producers and director probably seen it after it was broadcast and thought ‘na, we won’t be doing that again!’
Terry is still hurt from Andrea Clayton doing a runner and not having contact with his child. We start to see a more sinister and villainous Terry from here on...
Sadly I agree. As soon as he ran off with that Linda it's the end of Terry as we knew him. Such a shame, he was a great character, in a loveable rogue sort of way.
I really like the part when Terry @ Curly, worked in the garage with looking 4 body parts @ selling 🧽 cleaning supplies door 2 door. Those day’s were funny. 😅 😂They we’re a hilarious 🤣 team together.😂😂
Audrey wasn't fair to Deirdre and to her credit I think she realized it while talking to Rita. Alfs lifestyle had a lot more to do with this than the election. And if it wasn't Deirdre it would have been the labor candidate. Or the shop. Or etc.
Mavis, a strong head for drink? At the Barlow twins 21st in ‘86, she told Ken more than two drinks and she gets tiddly! She got hilariously kayli’d round Rita’s at Christmas in ‘87 too!
Eddie Yates' rhubarb wine sticks in mind too. I'm still convinced that's why "rhubarb wine" was a bit of a story during the Royle Family Christmas special with the new sofa. Talk about long term storytelling 😂
Kaylied. Apparently it derives from kali, the sugar colored crystals, similar to sherbet. So to be kaylied is to be like a child on too much sugar, drunk and silly.
Alec Gilroy is a SHARK. He’s been after the pub and Bet. I don’t think he counted on her doing a runner because the scriptwriters didn’t either! However, it’s obvious that Alec is relentless and will do what he needs to do in order to get what he wants. He knew Bet was not able to afford the tenancy. Great actor is Roy Barraclough.
Deirdre's election programme encapsulated in her speech to Alf: Hot Air and more Hot Air shouted even louder ... acclaimed by all the other gas bags from the factory!
Hilda told Percy and Phyllis that her and Tom were going to Rhyl for a week, it was thriving back in the 80s I had lots of happy memories going to rhyl, but it’s not thriving anymore
I know it's bad to say, but I quite enjoyed Audrey tearing a strip off Deirdre 😂 justified, even if it's just for us having to endure her, Sally and Emily singing during the election campaign 😆
No, she disappears to Spain as it was getting too much for her running the pub. He goes eventually to try to find her and brings her back but realizes that she can only be in the pub if he marries her as he tooknover the tenancy, also it was to save her image.
It's hard to have much sympathy for Alf. He gets himself so worked over matters unless they are going his way. Also, when you take his extreme weight problem into consideration it is surprising that he never got ill sooner.
Very poor knowledge of election procedure in this episode. If you have lost an election by only 7 votes, you are given an automatic recount (perhaps several). And why didn't Alf or the Labour candidate ask for one? Also, election counts are not held in poky backstreet community centres with no parking outside. They are held in big venues like leisure centres or civic centres. And all the wards in the borough are counted in the same place not every ward counted in a different place.
Yes. She disappeared to Spain as running the pub was too overwhelming. Alec goes to find her and brings her back but he's taken over tenancy so he proposes so she can live in the pub too to help run it as his wife.

Terry heavy breathing whilst talking shit2 slut Pete's wife makes me feel proper sick.
Agree with you there. Such a pleasure to watch.
A bit rich talking to Deidre about housing considering she wanted Alf to jump the housing queue for her and Tracey after Ray left.
Good memory!

Ken's voice through those speakers..."VOTE DEIRDRE BARLOW", sounds even more robotic than usual, like he is trying to brainwash the nation! 🤣

That music wasn't needed with Alf's heart attack......... It was bad enough
Didn't you hear the doctor? It was only "some sort of heart attack" 😂😂
it was so weird, I wondered what was going on
Why is Terry so taken with Linda? She’s such a miserable moo. He fancied that Andrea too and she was most unpalatable.
I'm struggling to think of any other female in the soap who actually does have a pleasant disposition he could go for to be fair 😂
He seems to just like women that have men already (bar Andrea)
Terry’s horrible
He’s vile, he always wants what his mates have and he takes it
