- Both forms of martial arts contain tools and skills to balance each other out. It all depends on whether the trainee either of karate or taekwondo has put in the hard yards to hone their skill.

When I learned taekwondo as a kid our teachers always told us: There is no superior martial art. Only superior martial artists.
This comment should had million likes
Daniel Maas your teachers taught you well. If they're still around and you wish to resume your studies seek them out and learn from them. Sadly that kind of knowledge is lacking today and students suffer for it.
Indeed. No one person defines a specific martial art (failure or perceived superiority. A person only represent themselves as competitors, nothing else), including the super-star Bruce Lee.
Each martial art was developed within its unique environment, never deemed as a sport--at least its early 20th century masters.
However, today, particularly in the US, we want to believe that there is a superior martial art above all. And so, a billion dollar industry has evolved out of it, and even trillion more beliefs that THERE IS a true, ultimate kick-ass martial arts that can inflate the testicles and ego with it.
Thats true,There's no superior or inferior styles in martial arts
that is so true

Ip Man was wrong then. You know, just because some respectable says something, it doesn’t mean they’re right. It is in part about the fighter; Yes, absolutely. But it is equally, if not moreso, about the weapons of the fighter. Bad weapons will always detract from the full ability of the fighter.

Pretty solid appraisal. I grew up in Taekwondo. Had a couple years of experience in Hwa Rang Do starting when I was 6, then went to Taekwondo. However, my experience seemed to differ from a lot of what I see in tournament-oriented schools. My instructor from 8 to 18 was a Vietnam vet, and looking back, I think he brought a lot of things into his training that he learned in the military...both in terms of discipline, training, and technique. He was very regimented. We trained in an old gym that didn't have A/C. Hot in the summers and cold in the winters. Made us do knuckle push-ups all the times, and at the first snow of every year, he'd make us run around the outside of the gym barefoot 7 times. He also employed more hand techniques than I tend to see in other Taekwondo schools. Looking back, I was very blessed to have the teacher I did. He was a real-life Mr. Miyagi. He taught his class 3 nights a week in a run-down gym...for no charge at all. He wanted poor kids to be able to learn just as much as those who were better off. Never asked a single thing from us except that we show up and that we go hard. And he didn't hand out belts flippantly. He had a hard and fast rule. Couldn't earn your black-belt until you were 16. Since I started when I was 8, I had to go 8 long years. Many schools would've given a little punk-ass 12-year-old his black belt just cuz he "went through the process." My instructor knew and respected what that belt stood for...and like a rite of passage...that no child should wear it.

Yes but they are masters of nothing.Schevchenko is the closets to a Master in UFC.
@@SRTTren sorry dude but in life or death situations aikido is one of the best when dealing with multiple opponents. Taekwondo and karate they are great but when dealing with someone physically stronger than you can not miss a punch or kick. then ju jitsu if you got one guy locked up a second one just come up and kick you. Greco roman wrestling and ju jitsu are the worst when dealing with multiple opponents.
but none of you actually do that. That would involve going to a dojo with a Japanese sensei and studying Karate for five years, then doing the same with a Japanese sensei in a dojo and getting a black belt in Real Japanese Jujitusu....then you could flow from one to the other...but most of you never set foot in a real martial arts studio. Therefore you're not doing martial arts. You're doing "combat sports".
Sounds nice but there are enormous differences. Majority of karate dojos train for competition and end up using a lot of time in Kata. There is little contact training so there is no body hardening/conditioning. Most kickboxing schools are the exact opposite of this. It leads to very different results ...

Karate is not only Kyokushin Style, there are much more, Shotokan, Wado-Ryu.... Taekwon-Do is not only WTF style. There is much more, ITF-Style, WTF-Style, Traditional Style, Kwon Style...
Actually, the only styles that should be split individualy are WT (old WTF) and ITF. Originaly there were 5 different schools or Kwans in Korea that diverged in a few others later and nowadays there are probably more. However, unlike certain Karate Styles you mention that are different from each other, the roots and philosophy in the main Taekwondo styles are very close to another. Besides that, there's Songham/ATA, which I have a hard time including in the same group because it was founded later in the USA and kind of diverges from the original philosophies to include the use of weapons. The current issue with Taekwondo, especially WT, is that it is heavily focused in the olympic sparring system which has been changing VERY constantly over a short period of time in multiple aspects and compromising the style.
Technically WT (WTF) is not a "style" of taekwondo; it is a sporting organisation managing a specific competition ruleset (many Taekwondo techniques are illegal in WT competitions) (Only coutries can be members of WT and not individuals or dojangs) . It's more technically correct to call the style primarily competing in WT-sanctioned competitions Kukkiwon-style taekwondo, since Kukkiwon is the organization that defines the complete style and that style has 90% more technics that you see in WT competitions.
@@Rhodrago Yes, technically. But to be fair both WT(F) and Kukkiwon are nothing but administrative names for the entities that rule the martial art itself, at different levels. In fact, there was just one style of Taekwondo which was Taekwondo on itself, but it split into two different political "parties", once WT separated from ITF. The differences in rules is basically what separates one style from another, but both are generally referred to and known as WT and ITF. WT became the most popular name because, well, it's the name associated to international competitions and what appears written in uniform and gear most of the times.
@@RealSaturnPT Kukkiwon is the headquarters and rules over the WT federation. The techniques allowed in Olympic sport taekwondo (WT) are only a fraction of the techniques that the Kukkiwon style has. For example: only “one” hand technique is legal in WT competitions (straight punch to the body). The Kukkiwon definition of Taekwondo has a lot more hand techniques to the whole body, but those are forbidden in WT competitions (because WT rules). In other words Kukkiwon is the government organization. WT is only the organisator of the sport versions (kyorugi and poomsae) of this martial art that is defined by Kukkiwon. You can't just graduate only in the sport subset (WT) of the martial art.
WTF never split from anything. It was ITF that split from KTA. KTA continued to work in parallel, eventually establishing the organizations Kukkiwon and WTF. KTA is still active.
ITF splitted again after a while. This resulted in three different federations (styles) with three different headquarters, Toronto Canada, Vienna Austria and Spain Benidorm.
The following is from Taekwondo wiki
Choi Jung Hwa, General Choi’s son, headquartered in Toronto, Canada. (Choi continues as president of this ITF today.)
Chang Ung, the North Korean candidate, headquartered in Vienna, Austria. (Chang Ung eventually retired and was replaced with Ri Yong Son).
Trần Triệu Quân, the person elected at the 2003 ITF World Championship. (Tran was later killed in an earthquake in Haiti and was replaced with Pablo Trajtenberg.)
Unfortunately, there was no single “clear” right answer. Various grandmasters opted to follow each of these men, and the result was three different organizations making credible claims to be the “real” ITF.
In 2003 when Trần Triệu Quân was elected by the "remaining" ITF organization, that ITF entered into a lawsuit with the Chang Ung ITF regarding the ownership of the ITF headquarters building in Vienna, Austria. Austrian courts ruled in favor of the Chang Ung ITF; in response the Trần Triệu Quân ITF relocated its headquarters to Spain, where it resides now.
@@Rhodrago Again, the creation of both Kukkiwon/WTF and ITF were the result of a political split between General Choi (ITF) and KTA (Kukkiwon and WT). KTA was not even a Taekwondo Association to start with. Both Kukkiwon and WTF define the style you know nowadays as Kukki (National) Style or WT(F) Style based in competitions. Calling Kukki Style or WT style is basically using different names for the exact same thing. No single martial art resumes to the tournament rules and techniques allowed, especialy traditional ones like Taekwondo or Karate. I do own two different official Kukkiwon books/guides, I know very well how rich Taekwondo is. Wether you call it Kukki Style based in conventional training or WT style beased in international tournaments, no name is incorrect. Regardles of being different entities they promote the exact same style.
I am Korean and in taekwondo you learn how to switch your stance very quickly and we have a lot of hand techniques too though we focus on legs no two martial arts are better than each it is really based on what you are trying to do though I am not biased I do very much recommend taekwondo.

Yep the great Andy Hug RIP.
I believe in learning multiple styles. I started as a kid (6 years old) with Taekwondo still practice now in my 50's. My dad was a golden glove boxer so he taught me over the years. I also took 5 years of Jiu Jitsu, 4 years of Muay Thai and 3 years of Kenpo (Kempo) . I served 8 years in USMC also got to learn MCMAP. (go ahead with the crayon jokes) .
I now have both my girls in Taekwondo they love it a lot and look forward to their sessions.
Side note: we were recently at the park helping my girls with their Taekwondo techniques and some random guy comes up and says to me you should put them in boxing it's superior.. I said ok thanks I'll think about it. Instead of arguing with his narrow focus I just let him talk. He was promoting his gym. which on it's own was fine just the way he came up I didn't like. My 6 year old said grandpa boxes with us. He walked away 🤣🤣 kids no filter.
I don't need his training since they are also learning boxing techniques from me as my dad taught me, he's still around so smiles when he sees them boxing and helps when he can. Next year I'll start them into Jiu Jitsu and mix a of some MCMAP.
I strongly believe as parents should have their children do one form or another. The more the merrier
They learn respect, patience and self discipline. Plus they can protect themselves.
I've been training Taekwondo for 30 years now, and I also trained in Judo, MMA, and boxing (and some others but not karate). Of course, I don't think that any martial art is superior to another; I love them all. But the idea that in taekwondo we use more kicking than punching is a misconception. Actually, there are more punching techniques, if you count them, than kicking. The problem here is that in competitions, we limit a lot of punching for security reasons. Of course, in the WTF, where they are more focused on competitions due to the Olympic games, they will have more kicking than in the ITF, where we don't focus that much on competitions. Anyway, in the ITF, once you get within a short distance of the opponent, you will start sending as many punches as you can. That could be a difference between WTF and ITF. Another thing would be the way of counting the points; they could have a sensor to count it. We didn't add those things as we wouldn't count a kick as a pushing technique or if the kick didn't have the intentionality to cause damage and then be controlled (at least, those are the rules... I asked why we didn't do that in the 2009 World Championship during the coaching courses, and that's what they answered me. That's the reason we wouldn't start a circular kick from the front, but we also do our cheats. Anyway, those things are competition techniques but not the real martial art. Neither Taekwondo from Grand Choi nor Taekyon trained by the Hwarang warriors. By the way, ITF was founded in 1966 and WTF in 1973, and there were a lot of disputes when this happened as WTF used the same name as Gral. Choi, then we became all friends, and we could move from one to the other and keep the rank. I come from the linage of Master Kim; he was the master of the master of my master. Now Master Kim is in the WTF as Chung and Choi, who were the 3 masters that brought Taekwondo to my country. This is not that ITF is better than WTF, but the video said it was from the old corea... Taekwondo is a mixed but it is a new martial art and it's name invented by gral Choi during ww2, the old martial art from Korea is Taekyon. We also have the Kwon part.
You forgot that taekwondo has 2 different types of the martial art. ITF and WTF. ITF uses more hand techniques than WTF which you just showed
What about ATA?
... EXACTLY 😂
WTF old style was more like ITF only different poomsee, but WTF wanted to go Olympic and changed to this stange form...Now they changed it even further...
Moo Duk Kwan, Jhoon Rhee, Kuk Mu Kwan, ATA.
Thet had to change the name of wtf to to wt

yes, the best martial art is mixed martial arts
(KARATE-TAEKWONDO)
"The best style is no style" by Bruce Lee
I'll just like to note there are many types of karate and each one is pretty different than the other. The karate mentioned in this video is only one type which is named karate kyokushin. It's the most brutal one out of all types and focuses mainly on power and enduring pain. It's mainly about fighting full contact with your opponent without wearing any protection. Punches aren't allowed to the face during tournament fights because we're not allowed to wear any protection although kicks are allowed so as knees on the face. That's the rules. Of course, they train at the dojo how to punch the face and so on and learn how to fight with punching the face but they're not allowed to use it at tournaments.
i dont belive in karate styles because karate was first made as one martial art together
Oh wow, our karate style is more centred in technique and even thought we do practice a lot of offence our main goal normally is defense and we use protection in the face too. It is totally not permitted to punch or kick someone directly on the face but I think it’s is allowed to kick on the side of the head only if wearing protection and with caution of not knocking out or breaking a bone or something
Interesting fact is that kyokushin karate is also invented by the korean master Choi bae-dal in japanese imperial invasion era.

The person who made karate famous all over the world is Oyama Mastatsu, the creator of Kukjin Karate. He is not Japanese, he is Korean. When General Choi Hong-ui was making Taekwondo in Korea, he helped a lot in making Taekwondo and went back to Korea to run Taekwondo together. Then, in 1967, he suddenly became a naturalized Japanese under the name of Oyama Mastatsu, and many people know him as a Japanese. His Korean name is Choi Young-eui.
No it wasn't Oyama who made Karate famous all over the world.. He was certainly popular to a degree but not the main figure as there were several. Gichin Funakoshi was responsible for spreading Shotokan across the globe. Giching and Gigo, his son taught Mas Oyama Shotokan.
Oyama Mastatsu is the fouder of world's strongest karate "KYOKUSHIN"
But it also helps to know what type of karate and taekwondo you're talking about, because the sport versions of these are basically useless in a real fight unless the type you train with are tailored to the type of situation you're in that calls for it.
Go train kyokushin karate and see that you're wrong
They made the taekwondo scenes look so goofy but it’s litterly one of the most deadly techniques in the world..
I used to learn classic style TKD, which is a full-body contact style when was 7. for nowadays international tournament-style TKD is much popular and had big successes as sports.
but missed lots of good things.
A lot of it depends on the particular school you're going to because a lot of times either one is gonna help you more simply depending on the school. I take Goju-Ryu Karate, and our dojo teaches rounded self-defense, punching, kicking, knees+elbows, takedowns, locks, etc... so really what it comes down to is finding a school in either martial art that teaches more than just one thing. I used to do Taekwondo but quit because all we ever learned was kicking literally nothing else, however, I have a friend whose TKD school is crazy good and of course, focuses on kicking but still teaches a good amount of everything else as well.
The thing about taekwondo is that it has the strongest kicks. If you can land them you win. But can you? Its extremely hard to keep distance in a real fight with taekwondo. But if you do it should be pretty much a guaranteed win. Especially if you get a headshot.
It was like the little kid next door was fighting with another kid.😂
Great content; thanks for sharing
Two of these martial arts is the best because my sensei told me once, the one who train harder and never give up he is the one who can be call a master of they own martial arts
Both arts are beneficial true. But, I decided on Taekwondo as an art form to learn. Because of the fact that has more kicks. And my opinion, more powerful kicks than karate.
I had a niece that was taken karate, at the same time I was taking taekwondo. I remember when she came to watch me. In one of our full contact tournaments.
I recall her saying just how brutal we were! Of course that was old school Taekwondo that I took. Not like the water down crap today. When we did full contact. We did full contact!
Just training in class sparring. I received many bruises, and three hairline fractured ribs at one point. All part of the game. If you really want to get good.
I was lucky enough to have a former Marine, as our master. He pushed me hard throughout my training. And I am very grateful to this day that he did.
I've had so many people ask me. Can Taekwondo be effective on the streets? The answer is yes. But only if you train hard, often, and with everything you have.
And most of all. Do not use it like you would in a tournament. Stay away from the high kicks. Everything waist and down. When you hit heavy bags and so forth. Do not pull your power. Hit with everything you have.
That's the kind of muscle memory you want to develop. In order to be effective in a street altercation. Anyway nice video. It was pretty entertaining to watch.
You couldn't be more wrong
@@crisalcantara7671please by all means. Elaborate on your vast knowledge of Martial arts. And explain to me just how I am so wrong in my statement?
Just a word of advice. If you feel the need to reply to somebody. Try to do so and more than one sentence. And please be sure you know what you're talking about before you consider that reply.
I'm speaking from around 30 years of experience in martial arts. And I've seen a lot in my time my friend. Tournament and in the streets. But again please, enlighten me of your vast knowledge.
@@streetsmarttaekwondo but for real , taewkondo is a good martial art and is effective as a self-defense art also but for close range you'll have to mix it up , like old style teakwondo was and will always be the best in my opinion cause they taught it as a form of military combat, with knees , elbos etc . so I say the new style is great for a Olympic sport not so great for close selfdefence , so what do you think.
@@crisalcantara7671you have me confused. As this is pretty much what I said in my original statement. Were you replied you couldn't be more wrong.
Taekwondo actually is a deadly serious killing system. Most Taekwondo practitioners today do not realize the deep history Taekwondo has had in warfare.
Taekwondo was given the ultimate proving ground for legitimacy that any Martial Art system could ask for,.... war. Taekwondo was used in the Vietnam War.
Korean ROK Marines also taught this style to U.S. Special Forces soldiers and also South Vietnam Soldiers during that war.
The U.S. military adopted Taekwondo for its Special Forces training along with Karate. Taekwondo techniques were added into U.S. Military Martial Arts programs because of the styles effectiveness.
But anyway, yes you do have to mix it up a little in close quarters. You should be able to use your hands, just as well as your feet, in order to be really effective.
The only thing I disagree with you on. Is new Taekwondo being better for Olympic sport. In todays Taekwondo tournaments. They tend to hold back, and spend too much time dancing around.
And also tend to use about half the technique, that old school used during tournaments. I'm speaking of WTF style full contact sparring of course.
So in my opinion. Old school Taekwondo sparring. Was much faster moving, with more aggressive attacks. Which made it much more exciting to watch.
@@streetsmarttaekwondo so we both aggree on the same thing then 😂
I am a martial artist myself. I practice wing chun, Filipino martial arts of arnis/kali, and Thai boxing. In reality no martial arts is better then others. After we train Martial arts from a master, you learn how to have your own expression as a martial artist. I really don't fight in tournaments. My art is only for self defense and for the streets as well. To prepare for the unexpected. Great video by the way. Karate tournaments didn't have protection. It was full contact, teakwando had protection but still was good. Karate can definitely with Stand pain. Because they are known to that. All martial arts can learn how to take pain so that way you can be use to getting hit. Mind, body, and spirit
"Its about the person, not the martial art"
-Sensei
At the end of the day you have to choose what martial art is best for you depending on your strengths and weaknesses. For instance, my friend was tall and agile. He went for taekwondo. I'm shorter and more muscular so I went to karate. (Unfortunately not for a long time due to finances.) We could have probably both trained well in either, but it's about what form of martial art you can use best.
Karate 50% punching
50% kicking
Taekwando 15% punching
85% kicking
Note: it depends on % of strike
JAJAJAJAJA you dont know
Nahhhh man looks like u dont even know Taekwondo... In Taekwondo, they are 3 Forms u can learn: ITF, WTF and Traditional. In ITF and in Trad u punch a lot... ITF and Trad are a bit like Karate and Kickboxing.
U mean, WTF so specify it...
Why is it in Olympics TKD, no arms or elbows or hands are in use?
@TheAlexNike Yeah i know but it means World Taekwondo Federation...
Karate 75% kicking
Good video, super for me🏋♂️👊 blessings friend, good job👊👊
Brilliant analysis and evaluation ❤👍
Karate and Taekwondo are completely different martial arts, so I don't think it's up to us to decide which is better. However, it is interesting to note that the founder of Taekwondo was originally a karate practitioner, while the founder of Kyokushin Karate is a naturalized Korean to Japan. (Kyokushin Karate = a type of karate)
I train Kyokushin karate and I am a green stripe belt, which is three away from black. I promise, karate is what keeps me living. It gives me something to look forward to everyday. My brother, his friends and my friend fought for the USA Kyokushin team in London and they became champions. I train with Sean Schenker and I Couldn’t ask for more🙃🙃

Kicking method is different between Taekwondo and Karate.
Taekwondo kick is double movement.
It starts with folded knee and unfold it throughout the kicking movement.
Karate kick doesn't fold the knee.
Pretty Karate is very limited with it strikes. You perform a combo, but then you have to reset. In TKD it permits to allow a series of combos with hardly any reset. And depending on the school, it can also implement the combination of punches and kicks, and from close to mid range attacks.
When i was young i train in taekwondo, but in practice i run very fast a sprinter to be exact, made my assailant even more mad.

@Nima Elyasi I've learned both TKD and Muay Thai. TKD kicks are fast, accurate, skillful and Muay Thai kick are heavy, strong, hard. both styles can kill a person indeed
@@touche2286 mt is more effective in kinda short distance combat(+ elbows, knees). tkd kicks are hard to execute in real fight, since they produce risky openings. But when done right both are great, just different applications.

North korea tkd is basically kickboxing.

UFC 1 was supposed to prove which martial arts was the most effective and jujitsu was the style that won with Joyce Gracie taking home the trophy
Jiu-jitsu vs a bodybuilders
UFC was a Gracie Brazilian Jujitsu production to promote BJJ. It was supposed to be no holds barred but the competitors were directed what they could do and not do off the record to give Royce Gracie the edge in each of his matches. After they got the BJJ word out there, it became more fair and Royce Gracie went on to pursue other things and has gotten his ass handed to him a several times. The matches with the other pure martial arts and those arts of some off name styles, such as the Hawaiian Art of Bone Crushing got to show their stuff and got smashed within 10 seconds of the match starting. The Bone Crusher guy weighed in at over 400lbs and was put down by a 205lbs guy with one punch to the face as soon as the match started. Ninjitsu guy, sounding all tough in his pre-fight interview was put down within 10 seconds by a Muy Tie Kick Boxer, he just charged across the octagon screaming, giving you that "WTF was that?" moment. In just 10 seconds completely rendering Ninjitsu as a useless martial art form. UFC brought American Wrestling raised it from being a sport to being a martial art since there were so many American Wrestlers topping the charts, and they start teaching that in regular grade school.
