@bwontheblocc coming from someone who has fought at a national and world level the higher the level of the tournament the more you will see foot fencing like this with little commitment to full combos. idk your level but id say expect 60-80% of people to fight in this style

@@graydonrodriguez8232Google, muay Thai gym near me, and go. This is coming from someone who does both. I started with muay Thai though, and then added tkd to compliment the style a bit. The black belts thought I was a joke showing up to sparring as a white belt. Then, I proceeded to beat the brakes off them all with basic fundamentals. If you start with a point fighting style, you'll have all sorts of bad habits when it comes to actually fighting.

  • @jcbs

This new TKD fighting for points pales in comparison to the older style tkd fights. Today players are just happy slapping and flicking their feet onto the armor for points. They look so weak. They probably aren't but they do.

You can't say that to anyone who's a black belt and has much experience in the ring if he's playing an international tournament, when you step inside the ring and see your opponent, a moment of anxiety and fear strikes you right there in the heart, you know you're not there fighting the opponent he is the one fighting

I'm brown belt that sparred with a national champion. And he kicked me all over the place. He kicked very hard and is so fast i couldn't touch him not once. I'm guess he is at there LvL or a little below . So on camera it looks slow and looks like they are leg tapping and weak kicks. But trust me if you would go in the ring like i have. They will hurt you, make you look weak and slow . Then they would knock you out. Unless you was at there LvL. Unless you have gone and sparred with there LvL you really dont know how it is. If you ever get a chance to do it . Try it just once and see what happens ok

I agree. I used to think this fight was boring, but watching them deeper, specially Lee, I could notice he doesn't need to hurt his opponents to score, 'cause he's so clean and has a great kicking technique, that makes it look easy, "weak" and boring, but no, he's in another level, he goes just right to the point. Amazing. And I also practice TKD, but I decided not to sparring anymore, but still loving it.I' sure, if I had a sparring with him, I'd go directly to the hospital. lol

I’m a black belt in taekwondo and have taken more of an interest in BJJ now. I remember going all out doing a bunch of kicks on my friends in class during sparring. Olympic sparring has changed so much that now they do little front leg kicks to tap the opponent and get easy points. So disappointing.

Jiu-jitsu is a brain game. Even WKF style sparring is a brain game. Taekwondo (WTF/Olympic) is anything but... You want it to be a "brain game", you add hands, throwing, sweeps, takedowns to the mix, then you have a brain game. You don't have to add grappling, because then now you have MMA. Taekwondo comes from Tang Soo Do which comes from Shotokan which comes from Okinawan karate which had both striking and grappling.
Put Karate Combat champion, Olympic silver medalist and multi time WKF champion Rafael Agheyev and against any taekwondo champion he will smoke them. This stuff is checkers. Add the aforementioned attributes and then you have chess. Add grappling then it becomes"Go". I say this as a Korean stylist with over three decades of training.
I come from the Chuck Norris style (American Tang Soo Do). Chuck was a kicker who got his arse handed to him in the beginning by Japanese stylists. He improved his hands and he and his students dominated the tournament circuit in the late 1960s and 70s. There's a reason why Olympic taekwondo only gets two minutes of coverage at 2 am and isn't shown on prime time or even midday. Not saying there's no intelligence to it, just that there are levels. Blend Korean kicks with Japanese hands and you have a thing of beauty.

I'm tired of hearing mean comments to really explain why tkd use foot sensors, they use foot sensor to make the players think about their tactics. In old school tkd, less the defense more the offense. What if you are both offensive fighters and both use old school. One must be dominant. In the new rules, WTF encourages players to have tactics to fight

This type of fighting looks so funny. We humans evolved to maximize usage of our upper limbs that we take this for granted. Interesting how and why TKD evolved into this pattern of combat.

What happened there? Looks like he dodged the head kick, and at most was barely brushed by the kick. Maybe that still counts as a hit?

@@barnmaddo yeah with electronic gear it really doesn’t take a lot to score headshots, like maybe 4-7 pounds of force which isn’t a lot
