Not all AA people, but a vocal minority hold this type of prejudice and they used to call them names or just laugh at them for not being AA. Any group can have racial ignorance and prejudice is not exclusive to any one group. I have been on the receiving end of racial prejudice from people of all colors, I don't automatically expect it from any group in particular it's more about the individual and their ignorance
Saying a person can’t be racist to an Asian isn’t racist lol, no one should be racist to Asian people, they’re just using an example to show the other person’s hypocrisy. Racism is racism.
I mean, in a way it is. Because racism is thinking another race is beneath you. So saying "Hispanic people can't be racist" or "black people can't be racist" is saying you are above racism and the "other races" that are racist
Racism is about races (skin colour) can be sorted in a form hierarchy. But since we humans all (no matter skin colour) still one specie the "race theory" is wrong. But people who beleive it and beleive in racial biology are "racists". However having prejudices against people cause of their skin colour is not the same as being racist. This is critical race theory. Which is based on the idea that white people are specifically evil, and this is due to them being what are considered the spiritual ancestors of Esau.
A lot of the most racially prejudiced things I have heard have been uttered by a member of an ethnic minority. I had a friend who was told by his gf's parents that he was great but he was too white.
That's what soft language does to people. So many idiots would replace words with another while still keeping the same meaning but in a way that would least offend them. Like how they call fat people "plus-sized" or "curvy". The problem with this is that this is just like spraying a powerful perfume on a turd. It may smell like a rose, but underneath it's still a piece of sh1t.
I really hate this re-definition of the word "racist". A "Racist" is someone who believes that there is a measurable difference between the different ethnicities; that there are literally separate races of humans. For example, they'd believe African-descendant people to be more predisposed towards violence or that Asian-descendant people would be harder workers and so on. If you are not a racist, then you believe that we are all ultimately the same as humans and our differences are either superficial or cultural. Power dynamics have nothing to do with it. It is about a person's world view.
Her belief system is rooted in critical race theory. It's really messed up. Basically if you're in a minority group you cannot be racist because you lack 'the power' to be racist. Ludicrous.

And isn't that a system BY DEFINITION racist because you're just deciding who is racist based on the skin color of the majority, regardless of the character of those people? If there was a black judge who hated black people, giving them harsh sentences non stop and a more lenient white judge, then by your own messed up beliefs you could clone the black judge a million times and solve the systemic racism.
You know what else pisses me off? All of the comments here that are saying "as a hispanic" or "as a black person" before stating the obvious that all races can be racist. That pisses me off because if I said "as a white person, all races can be racist" I would just be ignored or told to shut the fuck up, it also pisses me off because the people saying this believe that their opinion on this topic matters more because of their race, and it pisses me off the most that there are way too many people who agree that their opinion on this subject is more valuable. I understand that anybody saying that is essentially trying to say "I am also against this bullshit" and I appreciate that. But it demonstrates just how deep this problem goes. The choice of wording is either incredibly poor or indicative of the fact that people truly believe that white people aren't allowed to talk about racism. Basically, stop saying "as a whatever the fuck" as a qualifying statement. Your identity does not add value to your opinions or your point. You should be able to allow your arguments to stand on their own. It's either correct, or it isn't.
Ooh that's an interesting point. Yeah, there's a hint of hypocrisy when taking a statement such as "all races can be racist" more seriously when it's coming from a minority/oppressed group as if it's more "valid" when the exact same point can also be expressed by a person belonging from a dominant group. My personal guess is maybe it's because the internet takes on a more "American perspective" where some groups are universally perceived as a minority, and thus more "valid". When in fact these same exact groups are dominant in other populations around the world. I’ve lived in the U.S. my whole life. 29 years. I’ve never met a single person that hates Asians. I know there is racism against all races, it’s just not as common as the media likes to say it is. Studies show that racism is just as present in most countries as it is in the U.S. My grandfather fought in Japan in WWII, and his whole life afterward, anytime I brought up the war, he talked for hours about how much he loved the Japanese. When he wasn’t on the frontlines, he was a mess Sargent, and at the end of the day, he snuck off to feed starving Japanese people even though he could’ve been court marshaled for doing so.

Using prejudice in terms of racial crimes just sounds like racism to me. Anyone who’s been robbed of something or insulted just because of their race has experienced racism, even if they’re in the majority.

That argument comes up because in certain fields of sociology, racism is dependent upon the dominant group in a society, where the term racism refers strictly to a certain race that is in power, being prejudiced to a race with less power. This definition someone's makes sense in sociology, as it's the study of society and groups of people interacting, so defining it based on the group in power makes sense. Fellow Asian American here. I’m sorry you had experienced that. I was born as a Chinese/Cantonese person in the USA. I live in a diverse town of so many different backgrounds, but even then I never felt like I fit in. I have never been received racist comments, but as I grew up I noticed that I was picked on by a lot of Black and Hispanic kids. Even then most of my relatives were assaulted when they lived in NYC. And it didn’t help the fact that the public school system taught history in black and white. But we got to stick together.

Yeah I've had this debate of "you can't be racist against white or asian people" before and it's just incredibly frustrating. The gymnastics they go through to bend the meaning of words... there's just nothing you can say to convince them. I got one to admit that "discrimination" exists but not "racism". So strange... I don't know what words mean anymore.
I'm from Costa Rica and when my mom visited her sister in the US she said that two black woman at Walmart started to yelling at her and the cashier, racist comments and slurs, only because the cashier who was latina too, started to ask my mom questions in Spanish about Costa Rica. My mom didn't understood a lot of what they were saying, they called her $pic and Bish, but the cashier did understood and she even called the police. They leave but not before throwing the groceries at my mom. My mom was horrified. Btw my mom is white, born and raised in Costa Rica so she is also latina. That was a racist attack towards a white person and a xenophobic attack towards a latina tourist. And I also know black people can be racist too because I live in native territory and is next to the Caribbean part of CR and the black Costa Rican people here can be very racist towards the Costa Rican indigenous people.
Philosophy student here. What many anti-racism activists are trying to do is defining racism as "discrimination of a minority ethnic group by the majority ethnic group" instead of "discrimination based on ethnicity". It's important to see that if you accept their definition, then it is in fact a valid argument for example to say that black people cannot be racist towards white people. The issue really is though that this definition of racism is at best misleading or possibly even dishonest. The important point is: Even though the argument itself is actually not fallacious... if you think about it, it becomes a very insignificant statement. To illustrate that: Suppose that we define traffic collisions as "accidents that involve two blue cars crashing into each other". In this case it would be a valid argument to say that a motorcycle crashing into another motorcycle or even a red car crashing into a blue car isn't actually a traffic collision. It will now of course be a very insignificant statement to say that 100% of all traffic collisions involve blue cars, when we have already predefined them that way. We can do the same thing with racism: Let's now for example define racism as "discrimination of black people by white Canadians aged between 7 and 17". Just like before, it would be a valid argument to say that in this case only white Canadians aged between 7 and 17 can be racist. But the thing is: Should we accept this definition? No we shouldn't, because even though it is logically valid, it's misleading, since most people simply have a different definition. So what is the actual problem? It's mere word games resulting in a misunderstanding. The one group is making a valid, but misleading (and often insignificant) argument, while the other is trying to disprove the argument, but failing at it, because they do not discuss the definitions first. I personally would either reject a definition of racism that does not include the discrimination of all ethnicities... Or if someone insist on using their definition for racism: Go with it for the sake of argument, but make it very clear to the audience, what definition for racism is used within the framework of the debate and then discuss it. Otherwise you will talk about completely different things.
if we define cheese as potato then it makes sense to say that cheese doesn't melt because it bakes, since it's a potato. yes, that is logically valid but it is also moronically stupid

@@tadeuszadach5732 yes, that's pretty much what I'm saying. But I think it's important to realize that sometimes it makes sense to use definitions that are uncommon in order to express a complex thought. You just have to be clear about what you actually want to say. I just think that some activists remain intentionally vague and don't want the definitions to be clear, so that they can hide fallacies in their arguments. For example they often tend to switch definitions in the middle of the argument depending on what they currently need (equivocation fallacy). That tactic actually requires some skill, which is why I wouldn't brush it aside as stupidity. I genuinely think they are straight up lying, because they feel they can persuade more people that way.
For those who appeared to be confused here's an overexplanation of what ZONG is saying. ZONG is saying that since coffee has caffeine in it, it would only be logical to assume that iced coffee would also have caffeine because it's just coffee with ice. This is a comparison to her knowing that hating an asain based on race is racist but thinking that a hispanic hating an asian based on race isn't racist even though it's just racism from another race. So ZONG is saying that since this person can't understand racism is racism even if performed by a different race; she would then also not understand that iced coffee has caffeine like knowing there's caffeine in normal coffee because the only difference is ice. (If that even makes any sense to you?)

White people aren't allowed to talk about racism because it's not possible to be racist towards white people

Thats what Im saying!!! The very first time I was exposed to that term, I was confused! What the hell is the difference? Being racist is basically being prejudiced towards a certain race. Like ?????
@@thiccarmybomb2395 It's a tenuous difference. Think of it as systemic racism vs regular racism. An individual can be racist towards another person, but that individual may not be part of a group that controls the judicial or legal systems.
South African Apartheid is a good example of this: even if a white person was treated badly by black people there, the white people still held all the legislative and judicial power and so we're systemically racist against black people. The black people could still be racist but they still would have felt a judge's full wrath. Just because a certain race experiences more racism and others doesn't mean it gives them a free pass to be racist themselves.
I love Asian food, cars, chicks... The list goes on for a while.
As an Asian American who has gone through the public school system (specifically one still suffering from negative effects of integration like inter-minority racism), all of the racist acts that I’ve experienced mostly came from my fellow Hispanic and Black peers. It hurts to say this because there has never been justice for Asians. Worst memory was when a Black male student walked up to me and called me a Chinese b***h (I’m not Chinese).
I have never been in any other country but when i go to websites like omegle, especially when the covid started some people will say something about me being asian like blah blah blah covid and most of them are black lol
Sounds rough. I hope things are better for you now. Seeing all the horrible things people are doing to the Asian community sucks. There isn't a thing in this world that justifies treating your fellow person like that.
That's horrible im sorry you had to go through something like that.
We had 2 transfer students in our high school before full Chinese but knew some English. Wonderful people I wish i got to know them more
But you see, if we start focusing on the Asians that are receiving hate then it distracts from the Black Lives that Matter
The fact that people actually have this mentality and have convinced other people to believe in it makes me lose hope for humanity every day
You can teach a kid anything
It's how it is with humans. We subscribe to combination of ideologies. From childhood you get bashed into your head all sorts of beliefs. In past it was mostly religion. But now with secularism it is free market, parents can teach children whatever. It's an unfortunate effect of freedom of choice/belief.
Embrace absurdism friend.

Idk whats the right term for this but calling racism smth. that excludes certain races is racist in itself.
if we define cheese as potato then it makes sense to say that cheese doesn't melt because it bakes, since it's a potato.
yes, that is logically valid but it is also moronically stupid
I feel that the word "racist" was hijacked and redefined due to how much easier and faster it rolls off the tongue than the word "prejudiced".
Imma go ahead and redefine theft as taking other people's belongings without their consent, unless done by me.
I can now take your stuff and it's not stealing. The power of logic!
She’s the type of girl who knows that there’s caffeine in coffee but doesn’t know if there’s caffeine in iced coffee as well.

yeah this doesnt make any sense sorry
