  • Black Sabbath seem to be more active than ever since they played the final gig of 'The End' tour in their home town of Birmingham back in February.
Sabbath are about to release 'The End Of The End', a documentary movie of the last gig of what was billed as the tour that would bring down the curtain on the Heavy Metal pioneers near fifty year career.
It's an outstanding film that really captures the essence of the founding fathers of Heavy Metal and is interspersed with backstage footage and private moments that give a unique insight into the lives of these great Metal icons.
'The Ten Year War' boxset launch has also been keeping Tony Iommi as busy as ever since 'The End' tour came to a close and here, the Godfather of Metal talks about how he felt about that final gig and what it meant to him, as well as elaborating on many aspects of his and Sabbath's outstanding career.
Full article with TWO BLACK SABBATH competitions is here: www.metaltalk.net/columns_seve...

Tony has always been this way. His fingers and lack thereof created Heavy Metal period no question or argument about it and he does not in any way carry himself as such. He is the fuckin Godfather of Darkness and the absolute man. My guitar hero and it very much has to do with how humble and loving of his craft and his fans that he is. Love Sabbath and they are all this super chill humble guys (Maybe aside from Ozzy at times but even him most of the time).

I hope Black Sabbath continues to release stuff and hopefully I pray they do another few more one off special shows in the future..I have worshipped them all of my life and seen them live 25 times in my life..It's been a lifetime obsession collecting their music and following Sabbath and all former members' projects since I was eight back in 1980.

There is the perfect example of the true meaning of the word Icon . Such a well spoken , ever so polite , humble man , that never seems to think that he is any better then anyone else . He has maintained the very inspiration of what has brought him from the very moment of the accident that nearly ended it all for him , all the way to this day 50 plus years later . If you can imagine the world without ever knowing this great man and what he has done for music as we know it . Then we would still be stuck listening to sha naa naa , naa naa naa naa naa ,,, Black Sabbath is and always will be the very 1st of the Heaviest of the Heavy Rock Bands Period .

    Hendrix/Purple haze?

charlie, distorted guitars doesn't constitute heavy metal. Its not the only ingredient obviously. Metal has its roots in blues as well, but just out of curiosity tell me which of these bands you are referencing were singing about the devil, killing the pope, burning bodies etc ?
Here's a true story, one night in 1984 i was typing a letter to one of my college professors and the damn typewriter kept jamming. I picked the entire machine up and threw it out my dorm window, It was the first letter that traveled through space to be delivered so technically I invented e-mail.....

I hope Iommi gets back together with Tony Martin again. I saw them in in Feb 1994 at the state theater in Detroit, MI. with the Iommi, Butler, Martin, Rodinelli line-up, with Morbid Angel and Motorhead opening up. And it was the loudest concert I've ever been to since it was in such a small place, fantastic sound. Saw the group again in London, Ontario Canada in 2007 in a huge hockey arena with the Iommi, Butler, Dio, Appice line-up. With Down and Megadeth opening up. That was my favorite lineup of the band, with Dio but the sound wasn't nearly as good since it was in such a big place that time.

Dennis Bayle I too thought the 3 sabbath members did Bill Ward wrong ,however now that Bill Ward has had another bad heart attack and cannot even play the 6 tour dates of his side band I now know Bill wasn't healthy enough to play this massive world wide sabbath tour ,hearing Ozzy talk about Bill falling off his drum kit amd I quote " like a 1 legged parrot " and having a heart attack right in front of the other band members ,then hearing Tony explain exactly how physically hard this tour was for Ozzy who's got a good heart ,that's enough evidence for me that Bill Ward not playing the final tour was based on the band's insurance company being unwilling to post a performance bond for Bill Ward due to Bills poor health ,Ozzy actualky educated me about big bands requiring each members health having to be insured before arenas and promoters will stage a huge event and spending millions of dollars that can't be recouped if 1 band member gets I'll .

I hope Tony is well and has many more years to live. He is an inspiration as a musician/artist and his music has been with me my entire life, but I have lost respect for him for the way he has gone about his treatment of musicians
    1. His abusive treatment towards Bill Ward while he was in Sabbath
    2. Gets Bill Ward To fire Ozzy instead of a full band meeting
    3. Loses Dio and Appice over some petty bullshit and blame the drunk engineer. If the guy sucked ,why not fire him and work it out with the other two? I liked Live Evil but if they thought it sucked so bad, why release it ?
4.Loses Dio again when him and Sharon Inc. expect him to open for Ozzy when he pulled a fake retirement
5.Fires Tony Martin 3 times and then ghosts him and takes the Martin years out of print
    6. Fires Geoff Nicholls so Dio and Ozzy can use their guys for the tours ( I liked 7th Star when he was allowed on stage)
7.Screws over Bill Ward with an unsignable contract for much less than the other guys and accuses Ward of not being up to playing denying fans of a true farewell - He could have done the right thing and made it happen and hires a clone ala Thayer Faulkner replacement
Yeah I know Bill isn't what he use to be , but they could have used him at least on the final Birmingham shows
    8. This one is petty, but they could have done a less generic set list for the true fans for at least this tour. I always hated this about Ozzy . He so great but cant sing half the catalog. That's why I liked Martin the best live.He represented all phases of Sabbath's legacy . I know his stage presence wasn't good but I cared more about voicing . Ozzy couldn't do stuff like Symptom's second half. I could have done without Iron Man and Paranoid for the millionth time. I don't know if I'm wrong on any of these and they're just my opinion on perceived supposed facts.

If Tony Iommi would leave formulaic songs and get back to freestyle jamming now.. That's what made Black Sabbath great to begin with.

I wouldn't mind if they just released new music. Don't have to tour the album. It's what David Bowie did with his last 2 albums.

I've seen a number of the final tour shows online and not once have I ever-ever seen a picture or video clip or any sort of acknowledgment to Bill Ward, and even more sadly Toni not once mentions him here. They practically treat him as if he was never there! That is why I honestly refused to see them and even with the fact Ozzy was going sound like shit of which he did.

I will never be able to be alright with the fact that this band ended their career without Bill Ward, he's one of the most original drummers in his approach and style of playing and have never heard any drummer properly emulate his playing. He's also a great singer. But that said, each member of Sabbath was of equal importance and each member was very much 1\4 of the reason they became who they became, Bill's as much a legend as any member of the band, nobody does, has, or ever will play the drums like the great "Bill Ward" and I will forever internally be unsettled with his absence at the end of it all.
